I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I'd like to upgrade the BIOS on my T440s from the original version [GJET83WW (2.33 )] to the latest available here as a CD ISO [GJET92WW (2.42)].How can I do this without using a CD drive? As an aside, I'm running Linux, not Windows, but that shouldn't matter for the BIOS update... Cheers.

Latest BIOS updated 2.47 caused me a problem: I can not edit BIOS settings anymore.I did have BIOS settings password set. Now if I enter BIOS settings it no longer asks for a password. Instead screen flashes couple of times and then it shows BIOS screen, but all options are grey, not editable!! I have not found any way to enter password. One option that came to my mind is to remove BIOS backup battery. But I am not sure if it helps here. Any suggestions what to do?!

Hello everyone, I am able to access the Bios on my T440s, and I have set a power on and HDD password for full drive encryption(They are both the same password), however I am not able to change Bios settings even after entering the password. I have looked at previous threads, however suggestions such as these did not work:*Enter only the first 7 characters*Change boot mode to UEFI - (I cannot access the settings to do this in the Bios)*Turn off secure boot (I again cannot access the settings to do this in the Bios)*Holding shift and clicking restart brings me to the windows boot menu but rebooting into uefi settings just restarts to desktop  I am open to try any other suggestions you all may have! Thanks so much, Gabe

Hi, I'm trying to update a T440s, currently on version 2.28. The update just reboots but does not perform the update steps. After preparing an USB stick with FreeDOS and using the lcreflsh.bat I got an error code which suggests to disable the security chip. Afterwards the Windows Flash program updates the embedded controller at reboot but not the BIOS. Using the DOS flasher I got this message:Checking for files and environment ... Done.
Start flashing ...
Error during flash. Error code = 19712 ( 81 )Does somebody know what this error code means?

I got a new T440s with an 256gb SSD by Samsung. I would like to set a hard disk password in the bios. But the menu item "Hard Disk x Password" is not showing up on the bios page Security->Password. All other menu items from "Hardware Password Manager" to "Power-On Password" do show up. Does anybody have the same problem? Is there another way of setting the hard disk password?

Are you using the Lenovo factory preload as you received it from Lenovo?  Or did you do a clean install of Win8/Win8.1 yourself?

Did you buy your system directly from Lenovo, or from a reseller?

Hi, yesterday I let Lenovo Companion (I think that's what it was called) perform a system update in Windows 10. At one point I saw it updated the BIOS and then went to reboot itself. Now it won't boot up. I press the power the button, the keyboard backlight flashes, and it then remains "on" for 65 seconds, then turns itself off. The screen remains blank during this whole time and pressing keys doesn't appear to do anything. I've tried doing all the stuff with removing the internal and external batteries, pressing the emergency reset button, trying booting only on battery, trying booting only on AC power, holding the power button for 30 seconds with everything disconnected, removing the RAM, removing the SSD, etc, etc. It just seems stuck in this state. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi, a couple of days ago I let Lenovo Assistant perform four automatic updates, critical, as they were pointed ? three driver updates and the BIOS. As I noticed, the BIOS was updated with the help of BIOS update utility, the system restarted correctly and flashed the downloaded image. Now it?s shown in BIOS setup window to be a current version - GJET90WW UEFI BIOS, GJHT29WW ECP. Previously it was a version of 2.36 package. The system boots, but the OS (Win7 x64) stops loading on Win logo after this BIOS update. While loading is the safe mode it stops on classpnp.sysUnfortunately no other Win OS (Win XP, Win 8, Win 10) or pre-installation environment (win 8 PE, win 10 PE) could be loaded - the same problem. No way out except turning of the notebook with the power button (even pressing emergency reset button has no result). The system hangs.I've tried doing all the stuff with removing the internal and external batteries, extra memory, SSD, loading from USB with/without SSD, from external CD, rescue disks, forums of classpnp.sys load problems  etc. Except trying to load Linux.Besides, I?m unable to reset any previous version of BIOS with the help of BIOS Update Bootable CD (If the UEFI BIOS has been updated to version 2.40 or higher, it is no longer able to roll back to the version before 2.40 for security improvement)? Does anyone have an idea how to do?Thanks P.S.     SSD is ok, fortunately I?ve got my files from it on another P... HelloI have a big problem.I purchased online a T440s brand new. I opened the box for the first time myself. When I enter BIOS it asks for password and I just hit enter without entering any password. I can enter the BIOS but i can not change any settings. What can I do? Can a brand new thinkpad come with a BIOS password out the box?I get conflicting information regarding the type of password. First image says it's power on which can be removed but bios says its supervisor.

Indeed, it may happen. Sometimes large customers request preconfigured laptops which may include customized supervisor passwords. Of course, you should have not received one of these units. Ask the seller for a replacement unit, as there is no easy way to remove an unknown supervisor password without replacing the laptop mainboard.

So I was trying to update my BIOS version from 2.30 to 2.41, but it's seemingly stuck on 2.30. When trying to upgrade for the latest version, the DOS window show a progress bar and it reboots into flashing the Controller with the fans going on full. However, when running the flash utility again the same "System BIOS Version -> GJET80WW" pops up. The BIOS version ID in the BIOS is still the same. I've tried both the Windows and bootable BIOS upgrade version with the same issue.I've also tried interim BIOS versions which seemingly (same behaviour as described above) down or upgrades to a certain version, but regardless, the 2.30 version shown in BIOS is still shown. According to the logs it all seems fine:OS = Windows 10 64bitDriver Loading....DoneSystem BIOS Version -> GJET80WWApplying BIOS Version -> GJET91WWSystem EC Version -> GJHT25WWApplying EC Version -> GJHT29WWAC adapter/Battery check....OK.BIOS Flashing....BIOS Flash completed.EC Flashing....EC Flash completed.   Any clue how I may go about solving this? Thanks.

Hi, Yesterday I updated to the newest BIOS-Version (2.29). I also installed the newest Graphics Driver (Intel 10.18.10.3910). After the BIOS-Update I changed 2 settings in the BIOS:(1) I increased the RAM of the Graphics-Card from 256MB to 512MB(2) I changed the Boot-Mode from "Both" to "UEFI Only" A few hours later something weird happened: The fan suddenly started to work at a medium level (not maximum) and didn't stop even after 1 hour the fan didn't stop. I restarted the OS but the fan still didn't stop. Then I closed the LID (so the Laptop does "Suspend to RAM") and after I opened the LID the fan did stop. The same thing happened again today. So, what is this? I'm not sure if this has something to do with the BIOS/Graphics Update or maybe something in my T440s is broken? I'm running Windows 7 x64, installed in UEFI-Mode.

A:T440s Fan-Problem since Bios/Graphics Update

I agreed to a Lenovo update yesterday (3/21/2018 for my T440s. I remember it saying something about a Bios update and to make sure the machine was plugged in. After agreeing to everything and starting the update, after a while I looked over and noticed that it had a black screen with nothing happening for several hours. The green power button light is on, but when I press it, it just beeps at me. Even holding it down for 10 seconds or more with nothing but a series of beeps (screen stays black with green power button light on). I tried taking the battery out and letting it run out of power, then put the battery back in, plugged it back in and tried to get it to restart.

One thing you might try that works on some ThinkPads is to reset the BIOS by unplugging the coin cell battery.     That will involved removing the AC power adapter, the main battery and the bottom cover of the laptop, which is detailed on page 61 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual.    Once the base cover is removed, unplug the coin cell battery (see page 67 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual) for a few minutes to let the power drain, and then plug it back in, re-assemble the laptop and try booting it back up. Be careful when prying up the latches while removing the base cover because they can break easily, but I found that gentle prodding and an old credit card etc. can be useful in working the latches free, but you can also get special tools at most electronic stores (often referred to as "spudgers"), to help pry open the case if desired. Best of luck,

Apologies if this question has been previously answered.  I searched and couldn't find a response.   I'm still using the original HDD that came with the laptop.  I'm thinking of upgrading to an SSD and cloning the HDD to the SSD.  My question is what to do, if anything, with the, M.2 16gb cache that came with the laptop.  Should this drive be left alone as is in the laptop after the HDD to SSD upgrade?  Should it be removed?  Should anything be done to the M.2 drive if I upgrade the HDD?  My understanding is it currently speeds up the computer at start-up and with an SSD, this wouldn't be all that necessary.   I appreciate everyone's time.  Thank you.   -Rich

Dear Users, Since a few moments I am a (happy) owner of Lenovo?s new and business class model T440s. As I could find out, Lenovo is building in two different displays. On the one hand there are several model with aLG-DisplayModel: LP140WF1 (sp)(k1)P/N: 0C00349FRU: 04X0626 And the other from AUOModel: AUO B140HAN01.2FRU: 04X0436 (You can look up your displaymodel via BIOS, Everest or any related program) As far as I could find out in the world wide web there are several users reporting with a LG Display in their T440s that it is in quality inferior to the AUO Display. It seems that Lenovo is ready to replace the LG with an AUO display, sending out a tech. My question is what your experiences are and what can we, the owner of a  LG-Display, do?Is there a real quality gap between these two types of Display? My T440s, as i mentioned, has a LG Display. I can live with this one, if there are no great difference in the quality to the AUO Display. I am excited about your opinions. Thanks Fire

Don't sweat it. Both are absolutey huge upgrades over the TN panel. While the AUO is a bit better, its not worth the trouble. I have both and I like both. I did a compare on the same thread u heard about the issue.

Hello,On my T440S, since BIOS v2.37.1.13 (with little hope that v2.39 would fix it, I installed it to no avail), I can no longer enter hibernation. When I try to do so, the red LED blinks multiple times and then the computer immediately wakes up. The event viewer only shows:The system has returned from a low power state.Wake Source: UnknownThe workaround is to either unplug all usb devices, or disable USB 3.0 support in the BIOS, which sucks for a 1000e + laptop.Otherwise, the computer enters a sleep-hibernate-wake up loop which is draining the battery. When do you plan on releasing an update (BIOS or USB 3.0 driver) to fix this hibernation issue?Thank you.

Make sure drivers are updated and not using a generic VGA driver. This would make the dock not work and not be able to adjust screen brightness. If it is to the point where you can hardly see it at all then it most likely is a bad screen.

This is probably a simple problem, but I can't figure it out. Device: T440s running Windows 10 Pro Problem(s): If I unplug it from the power adapter, re-plugging it has the following effects--it does not recognize that it is plugged in, and the red light over the 'i' on the lid repeatedly flashes a fast sequence of four short flashes followed by a brief pause. It does this until the battery drains and then it shuts down. Adding some further confusion: It will not shut down or restart when plugged in. It will sit on the blue, "Shutting Down" or "Restarting Windows" page for as long as I leave it. I have to force it to shut down by holding down the power button until it turns off. And yet further confusion: If, while it is turned off, I disconnect the external battery and plug in the adapter, I get the standard three flashes to indicate that it's charging. I can then reconnect the external battery, and it charges like normal though the light gives me an occasional double-flash as it charges and the charger gets hotter than normal. So, I'm not sure if this is a bad adapter, battery, motherboard, or something else entirely. I'd like to fix it before my Macbook wielding colleagues catch on and give me grief. Any help is much appreciated.

I have 3 Dell U2414H monitors that support DisplayPort 1.2 daisy chaining.  I purchased the T440s with docking station.  The laptop arrived before the dock.  It has Windows 8.1 Pro x64 running.  I setup the monitors to daisy chain off of the T440s miniDP port.  I got exactly as I should.  3 separate monitors.  I could maximize windows inside a monitor and they'd maximize to their monitor.  I could drag windows between monitors.  Everything is working. When the dock came in (today) I left the monitors daisy chained.  I did change out one cable (that I know is working) so that the DP input would attach to the dock's DP output.  I am not getting a picture on the monitors.  If I use just one monitor, and turn off DP1.2 (in the monitor's menu), I get a picture on one monitor.  Do these docks not support daisy chaining?  I've verified that I'm on FW 2.17 for the dock.  I also want to submit a support ticket with Lenovo, I just don't know how to do that yet.  Thanks!

Hi everyone, I'm trying to figure out if I have a unique problem, or whether this is a broader T440s problem. Occasionally, especially when my T440s has gone to hibernation from sleep, I cannot turn on the computer unless I plug it into the wall. That is to say, when I hit the power button when the computer is unplugged, NOTHING happens. I've tried holding the power button down, pressing it repeatedly, removing the external battery and then pressing the startup button, etc.  If I plug the computer into the wall, it starts up fine and shows that there is sufficient battery life. This does not happen consistently, and is difficult to repeat. For example, the computer went into sleep the night before traveling. I tried to start it on a plane flight (domestic, thank god, so it wasn't a huge issue, but if it had been international that would have been a disaster) and it simply would not start. Later, on a train, I was able to plug it in and it started with no problems and showed plenty of battery life. I then put it into sleep, it went into hibernate, and I was able to start it up without being plugged into the wall when I returned home. Has anyone else encountered something similar? Are there settings I can change, or should I have it sent in for repair (also, what on earth might cause this problem? Faulty power button?)

This is what happened to my T420.  Just about drove me nuts.  Since it would start in one power mode but not the other that proved that it couldn't be the button, right?  Another mod with more sense suggested replacing the keyboard anyway.

It was the power button.  On careful visual inspection I could see that it was slightly depressed from normal.  Either partly shorted or high resistance.  Plugging in the AC mains must have changed the voltages just enough for it to work.  Sometimes, anyway.

Not saying this weird problem is what you're seeing - but it might be.

Good luck,
Z.

I am trying to add a 4Gb SODIMM to a Lenovo T440s (model 20AQ0062MS with 4 Gb soldered on the motherboard). The RAM is Lenovo part number 0B47380 and should according to http://www.lenovoquickpick.com/deu/accessory/0B47380/lenovo-4gb-ddr3l-1600-pc3-12800-sodimm-memory be suitable for the T440s. I specifically checked that it is 1,35V DDR3L, and I've also tested the same module in another computer, verifying that the module itself works. This computer (BIOS and all firmware versions newest available per System Update) will not detect the added RAM at all, it just continues to report the built-in 4096 Gb as before, and does not give any POST errors. Hardware diagnostics do not report any failures in any of the components, but tests only the same 4 Gb when doing the memory test. A complete hardware reset (removal of all batteries including clock backup) did not change things at all. What am I doing wrong? This is the first time ever I encounter this problem with a ThinkPad, since I started working with the original ThinkPad 700 and 700C back in the early nineties (I used to work at IBM Helpware and OS/2 Hotline 1992-95) . First off, I am an Electronics Technician by trade.  I have 25 years of experience with all kinds of electronics.  This one has me scratching my head.  This all  started because I had an issue with my touchpad so I changed it out.  During the process I removed all power including, power cord, external battery and internal battery.  Replaced the mouse pad and put everything back together.  When I went to power it up I got no response.  Here are the things I have tried. 1. Hold the power button for a minute.  Tap it 10 times then hold anothe minute.2. Remove all batteries and press the power button for 1 minute.3. Remove all batteries and the RAM module and press the power button.4. Press the reset button through the cover on the back of the machine.   5. Lastly I disconnected the CMOS batter along with all other power.  The last step actually let me me boot up my machine and everything was working like normal.  I was happy I had fixed the problem, but I didn't.  Once I shut down the machine it still will not power back up.  I have to disconnect the CMOS battery again in order for me to powe up the machine.  Once the machine comes back I updated the BIOS to the latest version and that didn't help either.  I am stumped!  Any advice that anyone can give me is greatly appreciated.

A:Thinkpad T440s won't power up

It sounds like the power button.  Make sure the little cable is inserted all the way and is straight.  Also, the little board with the actual button might not be mounted correctly.

Hi,I am trying to calibrate my Nec monitor connected by displayport using SpectraView software. I have a problem with DDC\CI communication. No matter what connection I am trying (DP on notebook or DVI, DP, VGA in ultradock) I am getting no communication over DDC\CI message in SpectraView and NaViSet software. It looks like a problem with Intel HD driver. I?ve tried latest stable Intel driver (15.33.22.3621) and drivers from Lenovo (10.18.10.3496) under Windows 8.1 pro (64bits) without a success.Any ideas how to solve that?

A:T440s – no DDC\CI communication with monitor

Did you ever get DDC/CI working? I have a similar problem with my T470p and an UltraDock, no DDC/CI to NEC monitor, no SpectraView calibration, but the built in MiniDP port on the notebook works fine.

Hi guys, i have a t440s and every think worked fine until i cracked my display. I replaced it by myself and it worked again, not for long though. Now i have a laptop which i can only use as a desktop because the display isn't working at all, but the display and vga ports work fine! The display is not showing any reaction when turning on the computer, there's no light, no black screen or blue screen, nothing! I checked the wiring and everything seemed to be fine and well connected... any suggestions?
