I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Tecra M2 will start-up, but the battery is always dead, if I remove battery and just use the power cord the machine starts up fine work as it should then just cuts out, after five minutes.

It also starts up with battery and power cord but after five minutes as before but flickers then dies.
If i leave the machine closed to recharge it only charges for five minutes before the green power cord led goes out with the amber battery light. Then the power cord light flashes amber.
I disconnect the power and remove battery to get it back to recharging status.

The machine was working fine before and is running on xp pro.

A:Power Issues on Tecra M2

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what the problem is but after reading your posting I believe your Tecra has problem with power supply electronic.
To be honest I don?t think you can do anything about that.

Of course it can be checked by Toshiba service but I think it is too expensive for this old piece of hardware.
In my opinion you should back-up all your data and sell it on ebay. Someone can buy it to use different hardware components. I think it is time for new notebook.

Hi guys and gals.

Looking for some help or technical advice with regards my nephew's Tecra S1 that has had an unusual screen issue for a few weeks.

The laptop was working fine up to about 6 weeks ago, when all of a sudden, the screen failed to operate on boot-up. The exact symtoms are as follows:

1. Screen went from black (power off state) to a dark grey on boot with no beeps reported on boot. Indicating that backlight was operational?

2. External monitor was attached and laptop booted with picture as normal. However, picture could not be changed between laptop and external monitor via "Fn"+"F5" and Laptop monitor just went to dull grey screen as previously mentioned.

3. Battery was taken out and replaced after some time. Mains pack was plugged into Laptop. Still failed to boot screen.

The Laptop was then left for a couple of weeks and I started to investigate further today. On booting up, I found that the battery was dead, so inserted the mains charger unit to find............the Laptop booted up on the screen first time!!

Could this purely be a display ribbon issue? I am aware that ribbons within most Laptops can be affected due to them running through the hinge that connects the main body and display case.

Any thoughts and feedback would be appreciated.

A:Tecra S1 display issues

It might just be a loose connection behind the screen, reseating the cable may get it working again.

If it doesn't, it may be a hardware problem such as a faulty LCD or Mainboard. A Toshiba Repair Center can give you a quote for repair.

After upgrading my Tecra A11-182 (PTSE0E-0LP046GR) to Windows 10, I have issues with the touchpad. The cursor jumps from time to time to other places on the desktop, also in Word 2010. Is there a new driver version for this device? The Windows device manager says that the newest driver is installed. Thank you for your suggestions

Achim

A:Tecra A11 Touchpad issues under Windows 10

The cursor is jumping because your palm is making contact with the touchpad while you are typing.

The Touchpad Advanced Settings has an option called "Disable tapping" or "Disable Touchpad while typing".
If you cant find these settings you may need to update the Touchpad driver (Synaptics or Alps) that is compatible with Windows 10.

Hi

I hope im putting this question in the right thread.

i have been trying to connect my laptop/notebook to my tv without success i put cable in left hand side of notebook and connect other end to video out on tv i then switch both off and back on again but nothing happens.

Also the Tosh button does not do anything when pressed and the fn button to control the F buttons along the top also do not change anything.
I have disabled these anyway and is there a way to get them working again.

I have the discs to reset to factory settings. Will i need to use these and/or will i lose the content stored on my notebook?

If anyone can help me with the above problems i would be most grateful,

Many Thanks

Terry.

A:Some issues connecting Tecra 9100 to TV

Usually the using of the FN+F5 buttons should enable the external display devices.
You could switch between the internal notebooks display, external monitor or TV.
If the buttons don?t work then there must be something wrong with the drivers or the system files?

The usage of the recovery CD would be advisable because this would set the notebook back to the factory settings and generally this helps to get the Toshiba features working.
But the usage of the recovery CD will format the partition (HDD).

So if you need you files then it would be advisable to backup the data?

However, to connect the TV to the notebook you will have to use the right s-video cable. On some TVs you will need to enable the s-video option (channel). Then you should use the FN+F5 buttons to switch to the TV.

Best regards

TECRA R940: I have been having problems with my the laptop's touch pad and keyboard.

The touch pad disables and enables itself erratically (usually when typing) and several keys on the keyboard either don't work or work incorrectly (e.g. pushing the T key enables the ALT keys and a T cannot be typed and pushing the 5 key results in 05 being typed).

The catalyst for these issues seems to be related to automatic Windows Updates. I noticed these issues began after an Automatic Windows Update on 19/12/2014 entitled "Critical update".

Now, when I uninstall the most recent Windows Security Update from Microsoft, the keyboard problems are fixed (except for the hyphen key, which doesn't work for some reason).

However, the touch pad problem remains, so using a wireless mouse is now a must.

Should I unistall and reinstall a new driver for the keyboard and touch pad?

A:Tecra R940 - Touch pad and keyboard issues

Hi

The keyboard driver cannot be updated or installed because it?s already part of the Windows system.
But from my point of few you should test the keyboard functionality using the external USB keyboard.

In case the external USB keyboard would work properly, the issue isn?t related to the system update but to the internal keyboard malfunction? this would require keyboard replacement.

The touchpad driver should be available on the Toshiba EU driver page. There you can find the Alps Electric as well as the Synaptics touchpad driver.

Hello All,

I just received a Toshiba Tecra A11 the other day which is out of warranty (Refurb). When I got the laptop there was an issue where the picture was displayed at 1024x768 and off centre (In BIOS). The image was 1-2cm off screen to the left, with about 5-6cm black space to the right of the picture, the bottom 2-3 cm's of the picture were also off the bottom of the screen.

I installed Ubuntu Studio initially and attempted to force the display to a widescreen resolution. I didn't have any luck, I also installed Win7 but still with the latest drivers I had no luck.

This was strange because BIOS was displayed the same way so naturally I decided to upgrade to the latest BIOS version. The BIOS on the laptop was quite old (End of 2009).
I downloaded the BIOS update from Toshiba's web site, and ran the update.

The new BIOS was installed and the machine rebooted.
However there was no picture displayed on the LCD panel, windows did successfully boot, if I connect an external monitor to the laptop I get picture. When starting the laptop the LCD backlight does light up.

My question is: What can I do to resolve this issue? Is there a BIOS recovery or downgrade tool available? Is it possible to reflash the bios? What is recommended?

Thanks.

Does this mean that everything is ok using external monitor?
Can you access the BIOS pressing F2 and can you set it to default settings?

Usually you can switch between external and internal display using the key combination FN + F5. Does it work?

I have recently upgraded my old Tecra A4 laptop - PTA42E - (in great condition though) to Windows 7 and it is now in the best shape ever except for the PCMCIA card. Actually, in order to have Windows 7 installed I had to rename the pcmcia.sys and pcmcia.inf files during installation (to .old or .bak) otherwise the new operating system would not boot. The same problem was experienced by many other Tecra A4 users and the solution is available in a number of forums.

Although I do not use the PCMCIA card slot anymore, I want to resolve this issue for one reason: if, in the future, I need to re-install Windows 7 for any reason on this laptop, I have to repeat the same process again - rename the pcmcia.sys and pcmcia.inf files during installation otherwise the new operating system will not boot.

I do understand that the original drivers of the card slot (Texas Instruments PCI-xx21/xx11 CardBus Controller with UltraMedia) are not compatible with Windows 7 but is there any update driver that works for windows 7? And if there is one how can I replace the old drivers in my system so that in the event of re-installing Windows 7 I will not have to go through the same process? TI site is of no help, and Toshiba does not have any drivers to download.

Last but not least, if there is a driver available, I may used the card slot to get 2 additional USB 2 or 3 ports which are really necessary.

Thanks to the forum, in advance

A:Tecra A4 and Win7 - issues with PCMCIA card driver

Hi

The pcmcia.sys and pcmcia.inf files are part of the Windows system.
This driver isn?t provided by notebook manufacturer but this is an internal Microsoft driver.

You mentioned the original drivers of the card slot Texas Instruments PCI-xx21/xx11 CardBus Controller with UltraMedia) are not compatible with Windows 7.

From my knowledge this driver does not control the PCMCIA slot but this driver controls the card reader which supports the MMC Card, SD card, xd picture card, SM card, Memory Stick and Memory Stick Pro,

However, the Tecra A4 is very old notebook model. The driver will not be updated for this unit and it looks like Win 7 drivers have never been released on Toshiba EU driver

Looking for some help, think on right track but want to confirm and get things fixed.

Have a Tecra R840-S8450 that is having issues powering up. When you try to start it, the plug orange light flashes a code. That code is 01001010 which I derived from shortlong short short long short long short blinks of the orange power light.

So this is great progress, assuming I translated that right to 52h, which equals "EVER5V voltage is under or equal to 4.5V when the computer is
booting up". However it does not tell me what is wrong in such a way that I can try to do something to fix it.

Would appreciate some help, thanks,

A:Can I use Tecra A10 OS disk to install OS on Tecra M10?

At first I must say that Toshiba recovery image is created for each notebook model separately and it is 100% created to work on specific model. Why?
Every notebook model has different hardware platform and all drivers, tools and utilities for certain model are part of recovery image. These recovery images are also tested.

Generally speaking if both models have identical hardware platform (hardware parts) it can be used.

A:Difference between Tecra A10 and Tecra M10

Of course the both notebooks are different.
There are different Tecra A10 models and there are different Tecra M10 units.

For example:
Tecra *A10-13B* supports an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2,26 GHz CPU and Intel GM45 chipset.

Tecra *A10-1D2* supports an Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 2.80Ghz CPU and Intel GM45 chipset

You can find details about different discontinued notebook models here:

Generally speaking it should not be a big problem to use an SSD instead of an common HDD.
The notebook supports the SATA interface and you have to use an 2.5? SATA SSD drive.
I cannot recommend any specific brand but in some very rare cases it could be possible that you will need to update the SSD firmware providing by an SSD manufacturer?

Hi,

I'm trying one of this popular caddy's that allows me to put a second hard drive in the optical slot bay, I use a Sata to Sata adapter, so there is not really an adapter besides connecting properly:

[http://www.akasa.co.uk/update.php?tpl=product/product.detail.tpl&no=181&type=Enclosures&type_sub =2.5%20Enclosure&model=AK-OA2SSA-BK]

My problem is with Toshiba BIOS that is expecting a ODD device in that Sata port and cames out with a "CD-ROM error", disabling the Sata port.

I have a workaround, if I start the PC, after BIOS post with anything in ODD bay, after starting Windows, I insert the second HDD in the ODD bay, go to "Windows Device Manager" do a "Check for hardware changes" and voil?, the second HDD is working fine, to me this proves a BIOS limitation.

Is there any help, a Beta BIOS or something else, I have the last BIOS 3.00 for this machine installed.

A:Tecra M10-17U use second HDD in the ODD bay

Please check this thread:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=39412

A:Tecra A10 won't boot up

Hi
There must be definitely a hardware malfunction.

>"Perhaps someone knows if that particular "sequence" of flashing is listed as meaning any particular problem lease.

Knowing that you can read the blinking code using the following procedure:

The short blinking means 0 and long means 1.
The code might be something like 0001 0001

Error code starts with LSB (least significant bit) therefore the error code has to be read starting with last bit. This means that the code: 0001 0001 would appear as 1000 1000
This code you have to transform in HEX and you will get the error code.

But in my opinion even if you would know what cause this problem, mostly it?s some motherboard malfunction (maybe also a part connected to motherboard like RAM module) and this means that the whole part needs to be replaced.

Hi,

Do you think it's possible.
Will I have some drivers dysfonction?

Thanks for answer !!

A:Tecra A11 - Win XP and Win 98 multiboot

Well, Win XP installation should not be a big problem because the Win XP drivers seem to be available on Toshiba European driver page.

But Win 98 might be a problem here since its not supported and the drivers are not available? you will need to search for such drivers at your hand and I think this might be a painful time? I doubt you will be able to get Win 98 drivers because this OS is really, really old.

I would recommend installing the Win 98 only using Virtual Machine (VM) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_machine
or Virtual PC
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Virtual_PC

This is very easy? running Win XP you can open virtual PC or VM and could start the Win 98

Hallo!

I saw in a Youtube Video, that the SSDs that come as standard are mSATA ones and that there's space for a 2.5'' drive beneath.

So my question is: If I buy a Toshiba Tecra Z50-A-12R, which comes with a 500GB HDD, can I install an additional mSATA SSD as my system drive and use the 500GB HDD as a second drive?

Thanks

A:Tecra Z50 - mSATA SDD + 2.5'' HDD?

Well, some models are are equipped with an mSATA Solid State Drive (SSD) instead of a
hard disk drive. The computer seems to supports a 128GB, 256GB and 512GB SSD drives?

but as far as I know there is only one SATA controller in order to connect SSD or an HDD.
The mSATA SSD drive is connected to the controller using mSATA HOLDER ASSY.

So such holder assy is needed if you want to use an mSATA SSD drive.
Of course, you don?t need it if you use common 2.5? SSD drive or 2.5? HDD

Once with only 1 module installed, I got the WINDOWS XP startup screen (with the moving bar below) and then the Toshiba Splash screen appeared and then the screen went blank again. Seems like the hard drive starts up and then stops. The DVD drive seems to respond with a low clicking sound. I hear a couple chirps/clicks from the hardware but no beeps whatsoever.

I'm guessing bad RAM. I will try with some new RAM later when I get some.

Since I did get the machine to sort of startup once, am I safe to assume the BIOS and Motherboard are okay ?

If I get one now and there's a new model out in summer, which I like even better, I would be very disappointed but on the other hand if I want to buy one in the summer and there's a new one with less connectors, a glossy screen with one of those extremely high resolutions or maybe without the pointing stick, it would be even worse!

So the question is: What can I expect from the Tecra Z50 in the future? I know that I probably won't get the information I need but I still had to post this.

Thanks!

A:The future of the Tecra Z50?

Future of Tecra Z50?
From my experience, Toshiba releases different notebook series within short spaces of time.
In most cases this applies to the ?everyday home? models like Satellite models.

The product life cycle of notebooks belonging to business segment like for example Tecra or Portege series is much longer? so from my point of few the Tecra Z50 should be available in the next couple of month.

But even if new models would be released, I think that older models should be still provided by some online dealers?

I wonder whether anyone might be able to answer a question for me.

I have a nice Tecra R10-11B and it has been very good for quite a few years. It runs Win XP and does everything asked of it without a problem.

What I would like to find out, though, is whether it is possible to fit a quicker CPU. I have a suspicion that the installed cpu may be permanently fixed and is not replaceable but I would like to find out.

I had played with the idea of replacing the Intel P9400 Core Duo with something a bit new, to allow perhaps installing Win 7 and more memory. There is 3gb of ram installed.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A:CPU upgrade on Tecra R10

The CPU is socked and this means that the CPU is removable.
But the important fact is that notebook manufacturers don?t support CPU upgrade.
One of the main reasons is the BIOS which is mostly modified by notebook manufacturers.

But let?s start with some basic knowledge:
The CPU has to be supported by chipset and BIOS.

So let?s check what CPU would be supported by Mobile Intel GS45 Express Chipset which is part of the Tecra R10-11B
Here on this Intel Ark page you can find compatible CPUs
http://ark.intel.com/products/35505/Intel-82GS45-Graphics-and-Memory-Controller-Hub#@compatibility

But even if the chipset would support new CPU, some compatibility problems may appear because of the BIOS.
However, the Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs ( Montevina Penryn) were equipped in different R10 models, so probably other Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs would be supported.

By the way: the RAM could be upgraded up to 4GB RAM

We do not want to make any transfer of data or cloned.

The BIOS recognizes the SSD

A:Tecra Z50-A-11V: New SSD but Win 8.1 does not detect it

Hi

Did you solve this issue?
Could you install the Windows 8.1 system on this SSD drive?

I think the additional driver installation while setup procedure isn?t necessary since Win 8.1 should already contain the essential drivers.
From my point of few there could be an compatibility issue (maybe SSD firmware update would solve this).

How about the usage of other SSD drives? Do you have the same problem using other SSD drives from other manufactures?

Feedback would be appreciated.

Good afternoon,

I have a toshiba tecra s11-128 with broken lcd panel.
This model have a lcd screen with 1366*768 resolution.

The same series (example: S11-11d) was also equipped with the HD+ (1600*900) lcd screen

Can i replace it with HD+ lcd panel (1600*900 resolution)?

Thanks for any replies.

A:Tecra S11 - broken LCD

You are right. both models have different LCD displays but the same graphic card. I cannot say for sure but I’m pretty sure that you can use HD+ display with your notebook.

After upgrading to win7 and having sometimes a bleu screen when starting up the following happened.

After once more blue screen the laptop does not startup at all.

The only thing happens , is that I see the upstartscreen (in touch with tomorrow TOSHIBA) and icons at the underside of the screen indicating the drives. Then nothing happens any more, it doe not start up.

I can by entering F12 in a new startup procedure change to startup via CD rom, but this also has no effect.

Also it is not possible to enter the bios (esc + F1).

The keyboard is functioning because, after a while every touch result is a short " beep" .

I have removed the battery for a while and tried again with no result.

Can I put my laptop by the trash ore is there a possibility to bring it to live again

Thanks in advance, Jos

A:Re: Tecra S5 does not boot at all

On this virtual way it is not easy to offer some exact diagnostic but somehow I feel BIOS is screwed up.
Disconnect AC adapter, remove battery and press power button for 20 seconds. After doing this connect AC power supply only and start your notebook again.

I don't have this notebook model and I?m not sure about entering BIOS but try also with F2.

Hi. I have a 2007 Toshiba Tecra A9. I am not computer saavy so please excuse me. I have noticed what I am assuming is a fan on the left side of machine will not stop running lately and is hot and computer screen goes black. Took it to local computer person this weekend and paid extra for emergency fee. They cleaned machine out and blew out a lot of dust and cat hair. They found a Trojan - cleaned that up for extra. Today I came home to find fan running on full blast and hot. I don't know what to do now. Any suggestions would be so appreciated. Thank you.

See subject. I'm not able to add another OS on these laptops (I've got 5 Tecra's S5). Windows XP is on the computer now and because I want to format the computer (classified data) I want to add W7.
When I start no drivers were found on non of the 5 laptops.

Does anyone knows about this issue?

A:Cannot add another OS on Tecra S5, but XP is already installed

I assume you get an message about missing HDD while system installation.
Right?

I think you need to add SATA drivers while Win 7 setup.

There is an Intel Storage Manager on the Toshiba EU driver page which contains the SATA driver.
You can find the Tecra S5 drivers in Archive (Product type -> Archive)

Hi,

my Tecra A11 with Win 7 Pro 64 and a Mat****a DVD-RAM UJ890AS is not able to burn on a CD-R. CD-RW and DVD is no problem but when trying to burn a CD-R I got following Error Code: 060277-26-2A031000

I tried the solution in
http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Computer-Troubleshooting/Error-code-380381-26-2a031000/td-p/172666
- without success. There are no upper/lower filter keys in my registry.

I tried CD-Rs from 3 different brands, I tried CDBurnerXP and the Toshiba Disc Creator - always the same error. There is written the track list (copying a music CD) and then the error appears. The CD-R is not usable any more after this.

What can I do? Is it possible to flash the firmware of the DVD-Drive - if yes, where can I get the fw?
Thanks in advance!

A:Tecra A11 - Cannot burn CD-R

Hi

What brands did you try?
I use TDK ?R and they functions properly.

Additionally I recommend cleaning the laser lens using cotton wool tip and alcohol.
Had also problems reading and burning some disks which have been solved after cleaning the lens.

Hello,

i have a question regarding the Ampere usage of the HDD and SSD.
MyvToshiba HDD uses 5V and 800mA. The SSD i want to use takes 5V and 1,6A. Thats double the Ampere used by the HDD.
Will there be problems with the powersupply?

A:Tecra S11-11P switch from HDD to SSD

> Will there be problems with the powersupply?
Why?
In worst case the battery working time would be a little bit shorter due to higher SSD drive power consumption but there should not be a bigger issue?

My TECRA A7 has a 100GB HD and I wonder if I can replace it for a larger one.
Is it possible and what should I do?

Thanks for any help

A:HDD upgrade on Tecra A7

Hello

Your Tecra has SATA HDD connector so it should not be problematic to use HDD with higher capacity.
I don?t know which one you want to use but HDD between 200 and 300 GB should be good enough for upgrade.

What do you think about that?

Hello at all,
I have some Problems with the sound of my Toshiba Tecra A10. I already installed the Realtek Audio Driver and I see the little Speaker symbol down on the right side, too.

But I hear nothing. The Device Manager has a yellow Question Mark on "Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus".

I Installed the Agere Systems Modem, but nothing happened.

Can someone help me and give me a link for this Driver I need.
I use Windows XP.

Hardware Detail:

Regards,

A:Tecra A10 - No Sound using Win XP

> I use Windows XP.

Ok, I though similar issues with Win XP on other notebooks with new HD audio from Realtek.
The point is that you need SP2 and SP3!

The SP2 and SP3 provides important fixes and patches for HD audio?
So first of all uninstall the installed Realtek audio driver.
Then install the SP2 and SP3.
Then go to the device manager and delete the devices marked with yellow exclamation mark.
Then reboot the notebook.
Now Win XP should found a new audio device and should ask for the driver.
No you should install the sound driver from Realtek.
Reboot once again? and now the sound should works fine?
