There's a crackling noise whenever sounds play while my Yoga 920's screen is off

Q: There's a crackling noise whenever sounds play while my Yoga 920's screen is off

This issue became more apparent recently while I was listening to music. My laptop shut off the screen and locked as usual, and soon after I could hear intermittent crackling noises. When I went back into my laptop the noises stop. This also happens whenever I wake up my laptop from sleep mode and that system-sound plays. Has anyone experienced this? I bought my laptop a few months ago and all my drivers are up-to-date. I'm running everything as it was shipped minus my Elementary OS installation (I dual-boot).

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi guys,
Yesterday evening I was watching some youtube videos when suddenly the sound cut out. I turned the volume back up only to find there was a loud staticky crackling pop as the only audio output. Audio output is fine on headphones.

I have a Lenovo Yoga 920 (with highest specs) with Windows 10 home 64x bit. Since the issue arose, I have tried several things:
- disable/enable drivers by REALTEK related to sound, and Qualcomm Wifi Network Adapter

-Reinstall drivers via windows and directly via REALTEK website
- Update Windows 10 OS as well as BIOS
- Messed around with several battery plan settings
- Restored PC to previous backup, then messed around with audio mixer. This helped, as there was no distortion until volume 20, but beyond that it was the exact same issue.
- Lastly, I resorted to just resetting my computer (deleting all files, etc.)
My next step would be to do a clean install of windows 10 but I need to be using my computer and was wondering if there is a better way.

I believe this is a software/driver related issue as I was partially able to fix it by messing with the mixer settings (even when not having restored my PC). However, this "fix" doesn't work since I reset my PC...
I installed LatencyMon, and the results are below:

I have a Lenovo Yoga 13 that is out of warranty. I bought it in 2013.  With that out o' the way, my Lenovo Yoga 13's screen stays black even when the power is on...I see no Lenovo logo or anything AND the laptop keeps restarting on its own, so it is stuck in restart mode, with the screen staying black the whole time.  This laptop has been doing this (black screen even though power is on and shuts off and restarts on its own) for about 6 months now....(Jan 2017-June 3, 2017 as of this writing). This laptop works WHEN IT WANTS TO EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE, BUT NOT OFTEN.  I turned the laptop on now, and I'm typing on it now, **BUT when it doesn't work, which is most of the time**, it shows a black screen (I see nothing on the screen) even with the power on and constantly restarts on its own. Is this hardware issue a motherboard problem or a screen issue specifically? Specifically, is it the motherboard that needs to be fixed on this Yoga 13 or is it a screen issue? If it's a motherboard issue that needs to be fixed, how much would it cost? Or If it's a screen issue, how much would that cost to fix? Any help on this is much needed!

Hello,

Frequently when I wake my computer up from sleep mode, especially if I have been using iTunes or playing music before putting the computer to sleep, the computer will wake up and make crackling noises over the normal sounds it would play. It will still play normal sounds, but the sound is highly distorted by a static, crackling sound. This sound continues to be distorted until I restart my computer, which always fixes the problem temporarily.

I have tried different speakers and headphones, and it is the same problem regardless of these peripherals so I am convinced it is not the speakers. I am wondering if my sound card, itself, might be bad.

I am using Windows 7 on a desktop which I assembled myself. There is a sound card which, I believe, has updated drivers. Sound usually works fine except for these times when the computer wakes from sleep making crackling noises over the normal sounds it would make.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I started on Win98 and ended up on Win 2k with the same symptoms. The onboard sound card is an ESS Solo. It doesn't appear to be a driver problem, as I installed a SB 16 (ISA) sound card and ended up with the exact same problems. Some sounds are fine (the Utopia set) others (like Chord.wav) are LOUD and Crackle and pop. I've tried running dxdiag and messages say everything is fine, yet I still get nasty noises.... I can't say for sure, but the first time this happened was installing a kid's game and I think it took me to a new release of Directx (5.0??) Anyone have any ideas???

I received my P52s 10 days ago and ever since I'm getting crackling/static noise when listening to music or watchin YouTube using wired headphones. This is annoying and VERY disturbing to the hears! I googled and found that it may be 3 pin cables or audio drivers. Mine is 2 pin, I tried it directly to the wall and via a surge protector, nothing changed. I removed RealTek and install MS's drivers, same problem. Played around with Dolby, same problem. I need a solution, this is unacceptable.PS: this is a replacement laptop + charger, had same problem.Thanks.

try slowing the burn rate down some. for example, if its set to max burn, try something like 8x or 6x etc. when you burn the music. is it only when you playback cd-r music? does the same thing happen when you stream music?

If it is a self / custom build what is the make and model of the motherboard, RAM, CPU, GPU, power supply etc?
The more info the better.

Does this only happen in LoTRO or do you have the same problem in other games?
How old is the PC?
Have you ever changed / upgraded any hardware since you got it?

Hello all, new to posting but have been checking out alot of your posts over the past few months, finally found something that I couldn't get an answer for so I'm hoping that I can get an answer here.

About 2 weeks ago I began to notice a crackling sound coming from my speakers, it began as a slight crackle and eventually increased in volume. Now the weird thing is that it doesn't make the sound when I'm listening to music, but does when I am playing most games and watch movies using windows media player. I've tested out two sets of speakers so far and both produce crackling when plugged into this system, but do not produce any feedback on my laptop when plugged in, I'm not sure whats going on but I would certainly appreciate any help!

My current system:
Windows XP Home
2.6ghz Amd Processor
Ati Radeon 9800 Pro
Creative SB Audigy 4 Pro

If I left anything pertinent out let me know and I can add it. I thank you all in advance for any information you can give!

Hello everyone. I have recently upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 (the problem I am about to say never occured on Windows 7). When listening to music, I now hear popping/crackling sounds. The latency spikes very often. The latency that I always have is between 1000-1500us but it spikes very high. For some reason, right now it says my current latency is 1192us but my maximum is 908,300,885! This does not seem normal!  I don't know how to fix it! Has anyone else heard something like this and does anyone know a fix?  On device manager under "Sound, video and game controllers" there are two drivers. I have used Device manager to try to update the drivers but it is saying that I have the latest version for both.1. IDT High Defintion Audio CODEC2. Intel(R) High Defintion Audio HDMI Thank you.

Ok so I have a simple, but annoying problem. I have no Windows Sound Events like the login sound, the logout sound, and when the battery is low. Every other sound like playing music and running YouTube videos work fine. Even when I turn on my laptop I hear the whole computer startup sound, but I don't hear the login one. I don't understand the problem. I went into personilazation and went to Windows Sounds, but when I select one and click "Play" I don't hear anything. I tried the other Sound Themes and they don't work either. I ran the Fix It program for Audio, and it didn't find anything wrong.

Hello Everybody:

Slightly over a month ago, I bought a Gateway Desktop pc at Office Depot. It has Windows Vista, Home Premium, the only browser is Internet Explorer 7. Well, about two weeks ago, the processor began to make a crackling sort of noise, although it works well. However, since the noise started, I've begun to worry that the noise will get worse and result in the computer not working in the future. I phoned Office Depot and they won't replace it with a new one, even though I have only had it for a month and a few days, which seems incredible, so Gateway has suggested that I take it in for diagnostics and repair.
The noise happens whether the computer is idle or not, but seems to happen more when I'm not using it, or it's idle.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Hello there,

I just got myself registered and I have some problems with my sounds (text is copied from sevenforums; some may know it).

Problem:
You could describe the problem as a sound clicking or crackling. Those appear in various situations, for example when playing a MP3, videos from YT, gamesounds (especially Assetto Corsa: when revving the engine, shifting down etc.) and so on. Mostly they occur when the sound starts or ends (for example a cut in a film), even the simple windows-sound when adjusting the volume has this problem, when i rappidly klick on the volume-slider.

Things i tried, nothing of them helped:

Reinstalled Windows 7 several times, upgraded to Win10, reinstalled Win10 bought a new headset (QH-95), bought two different soundcards (Asus Xonar D1 and Asus Xonar U7), bought a new mainboard (ASRock Z77 Pro3, same as my old one), updated all drivers (reinstalled windows), checked the sound with the Latency Check-programm (everything is green), tried playing the sounds without soundcard (Asus Xonar D1) , changed sound frequienzies, played audio without WiFi on, played audio without any devices (apart from headset and mouse), checked with and defragmentaded my harddrive.

There is still no solution until this day. I slowly start to belive i'm the only one who can hear those sounds, it's just crazy and and the same time also depressing.

A:Sound crackling, clicking etc. when playing sounds

Hello and welcome Florian mate sorry for the wait but it is a strange problem.

Now what immediately pops up for me is you equipment on an electrical circuit that is quite close to anything that uses microwave devices - phones, ovens, wireless communications or even wired communication stuff ? ham radio??

Now another thing that I think of is the sound card sitting snuggly in that slot and are the connecting cables also a snug fit?

Now I suggest you clean the slots and sticks cards etc first. I also have to assue all drivers are up to date?

SLOT CLEANING

Now as for the slots toclean them use a strip of old credit card (or any card thin enough some arebetter than others ) about 1/2 inch wide nip the corners off one end - preferably round them offhold a piece of thin lint free cloth over theend dab on some form of alcohol - isopropyl alcohol (what we swab the skin withbefore an injection) is good and GENTLYswipe along the slots.

This can also be done for the GPU slot/s andalso the contacts of the sticks or cards - not the stick but some lint freecloth of course. See my pic for the stick but please be very gentle doing it ifyou are in any doubt - please ask before doing it but I use this all the timeand have yet to damage anything.

Lastly but not necessarily the end can you read my ditty and post back your findings

Recently on my laptop one of my built-in speakers has been freaking out on me a bit. Whenever I touch the laptop, or put some sort of pressure on the frame of it, my right speaker makes this weird buzzing/crackling sound. I mean, this could even happen when I'm resting my hand on it to type, click the mouse button, or even from touching the keyboard, like right now. Yesterday, it actually started making this high-pitched distorted shriek sound. It seriously felt like my computer was screaming at me.

Any ideas what could be causing these weird noises? Is something inside the laptop damaged bad? I've never heard of this before...

A:Speaker Making Crackling Sounds... Bad News?

Yes, there is something wrong with the speaker. Loose wire-broken connection-could be just about anything.
Only way to find out is to take it apart and check. And that ain't easy. Since you call yourself MusicNerd, I suppose sound is important to you.
I suggest taking it to a shop and have them look at it, unless, of course, you have the skills to fix it yourself.

i am experiencing this problem recently with my HP Pavilion DV6my laptop is almost 4 yr old. and it is giving out this crackling noise from the left side of the laptop where there is vent for the speaker .and recently with the crackling it is also giving out fumes or something.i could see the fumes coming out i shut it off and restarted after a day and it worked fine for a few hours and the crackling began again and than it stopped by itself and it worked fine for another few hours..This crackling noise is really scaring me and i am sure it is not of the sound driver or something because it occurs when m not playing anything on my laptop. i would also like to mention than the fan runs more these days and also laptop heats up too much sometimes. Please help with the same.Thank you in advance

My laptop makes a sort of crackling noise whenever it is doing something, almost like an electrical noise i.e. during start up, opening a new app or searching for something on google. It isn't a problem with the audio, and I believe it isn't a problem with the fan as the sound comes from a different part of the laptop as the fan.  Is this most likely normal and something that I should put up with or shall I take it back? Thanks in advance!

So when i got my laptop the sound wasnt that bad i though ehh its just some out of the box sounds itll go away, no its gotten worse. So i decided to ask my dad and he said its just the hard drive working and then i look on the webistes and ive seen someone saying its the processor idling and that when you do more activity it goes which in my case is kinda true it almost goes away it just gets alittle quieter and slower, the sound is coming from the right side of my laptop and its like it almost sounds like a disk drive starting kinda thats the closest thing i can compare it to..

Hi,
Is this the same when headphone is attached?
The speakers might need replacing. Is the system in warranty?
Please click my DELL-username and send me a Private Message with the Dell Service Tag number so that we can check.

I got a new laptop from bestbuy and the specs are: i7-6500u 2.5GHz, 8gb ram, windows 10 64-bit (no touch screen). It has been making a subtle (gets really loud in quiet rooms) crackling noise which seems to be coming from the processor. At first i thought it will stop but it has been 3 months and it got louder. If you know anything about this or if this happened to you feel free to let me know.

A:processor making crackling noise

> it has been 3 months and it got louder. Are you sure it is the CPU?Could it be the fan near the CPU? If it's only been 3 months, exercise the "warranty" by taking it back to BestBuy, and have them diagnose & repair it. When was the most-recent time that the disk-drive was "defragmented" ?As the files on the disk-drive get more fragmented, the disk-drive makes more noise, when moving the read/write mechanism back-and-forth, over greater distances. What brand of disk-drive? Toshiba? Seagate? Western Digital?

So whenever I play certain video games (Usually newer ones with better graphics: GTA 4, Worms Revolution, Skyrim) I get this strange crackling noise. For about the first 10 minutes of playing, everything runs fine. Then it starts to make this noise, and it goes on and off, and while it's on, it slows down the game severely. I am not totally incompetent with computers, but I need help on what to do for this.

I have tried these things:
Used CCleaner to clean my computer
Used Regcleaner to clean my registry
Tried various fixes for the games specifically
Tried to speed up my PC (Which seems to make the games run faster, but it doesn't fix the noise)
Cleared a lot of space on my PC
I have tried many other things over time, even used system restore. But nothing that I do works . I can still play older games which is nice, but I would like to fix this. Thanks ahead of time to everyone, I am new to this forum so hopefully I am doing this right. Here is my computer information if that helps at all:

A:Strange crackling noise problem

Using Registry Cleaners is often the cause of the problem, rather than the solution!

I suggest that you undo anything that said cleaners may have done - either using the undo options they should have, or using System Restore.

Then start by addressing prossible driver problems with your sound card by updating to the latest available frm the manufacturer's website

If you've tried to speed up your PC by overclocking - reset everything to normal settings.

What's running at startup? - check MSCONFIG to see the basic list

Recently Ive been hearing an electrical sounding crackling noise coming from my PC or my extension cord, not exactly sure which as they are right next to each other. Ive been looking online and found a few things but nothing that really helps.

Its not an audio crackling sound it sounds more electical, its not a buzzing sound either, but a crackling/ticking sound. I dont think its a fan because its not constant, it seems to occur randomly. I havent had any problems such as crashes, errors, bsods etc. I also cant smell burning or anything like that, so im a bit confused! All help will be apreciated!

A:Strange Crackling/Ticking Noise

You should identify from where the sound is coming
If sounds comes from your speakers, then it sometimes happens when someone switches off or switches on lights or fans in another room.

I bought some Logitech Z506 surround speakers for my PC, but after hooking them up I found the front right speaker (the one with the thick black cord) was making a crackling/popping sound. So I took them back and got another set and the exact same speaker was again making a crackling/popping sound. I noticed that the only time it would make the this sound was when I played certain songs that had a very low bass beat, deep chord or certain timber to the singer's voice. Also, when there was no sound at all I could hear a distinct hiss in that speaker.

I thought it was odd that the exact same speaker would be bad in both sets I bought, so I was thinking perhaps it might be something else (a setting, or something). I took the second set back also, so right now I don't have any PC speakers, but before I buy another set I thought I would post here and see if I could get some help or advice so I can figure out what's going on.

Thanks

A:Trouble with right front speaker: crackling/popping sounds

Ive had this same thing happen to me before. Sometimes; it can be resolved by restarting the system; but if not; then you may have to uninstall the sound card etc. from the device manager; reboot; and let windows re-detect and reinstall the sound card and hopefully that will get rid of the crackling sound.

Hi, Today I've noticed some crackling/popping sounds coming out of the left speaker of my HP Envy notebook. I figured out that they're coming from the left speaker. There's always a crackling sound lasting for roughly 3 seconds, then there's about 5 seconds break before the sound is there again. It goes on like that all the time now. I can listen to music etc without any issues but the problem is there even when I'm not using the speakers to play any sounds which is even more annoying as I can easily hear it when it's quiet. I've tried first 5 steps from this list, including reinstalling the Realtek driver and using Windows troubleshooting and none of them helped. I will really appreciate getting some solution as I had this laptop since September and never had any issues but this crackling thing is quite irritating. Thank you,Jacek

Hello!

Well, I have had SRS sandbox installed and working perfectly for a few months now. Last night, upon restarting my Laptop, it no longer worked! It only produces horrible static and crackling sounds. This only occurs when SRS Sandbox is enabled. This literally happened upon a restart of my laptop, and I have no clue what could be causing this. I have done everything I can to try and fix this, including playing with the preferences in the options tab of the SRS Snadbox, Playing with the sound settings, and I still get absolutely nothing. Anyone have any suggestions? Your help will be greatly appreciated!

SRS v. 1.10.2, driver v. 1.10.1 (apparently the newest driver)
my sound: ATI High Definition Audio Device, IDT High Def. audio CODEC, SRS filter
(all drivers updated and working properly)

Please let me know if I need to give you any more info on my comp.

Have you tried a System Restore back to a date when it worked properly? If not give that a try. System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools. Select an available restore date when it did work properly. System Restore will not delete any user data or e-mails but if any programs or updates were installed or uninstalled they will have to be redone. System Restore also has an "undo" feature that you can use if it doesn't help.
