HP wants me to show a white line on a white background

Q: HP wants me to show a white line on a white background

Ever since I got this notebook, all I've had are problems, and HP has never been able to resolve a single problem. It's like the warranty is completely meaningless. They didn't even replace defective parts, let alone replace the entire notebook.I've had problems with the hard disk, and was told we can't solve this problem as this is a problem with every envy notebook.I've had a problem where dust is building up inside the screen (between the screen and the external glass cover), and I was told I need to send the notebook to the service centre (even though I have an "on-site, at home service warranty? for 3 effing years). This one time, one HP tech even told me "ENVY NOTEBOOKS DON'T SUPPORT VLC PLAYER, YOU MUST PLAY MULTIMEDIA USING WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER ALONE". NOW, I have a white line appearing on the top corner of the screen, and HP said I need to take a picture of the problem in the BIOS. The BIOS itself has a white background. How can I click a picture of a white line on a white background? If I write with white ink on a white paper, can anyone read it? I explained this precisely, and was told "Since the issue is not present in BIOS, we need to check if this can be covered in the warranty". WELL, THE ISSUE IS PRESENT IN THE BIOS, IT?S JUST THAT IT CANNOT BE SEEN AS IT?S WHITE ON WHITE, AND YOU WANT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS AND NOT REPLACE MY LCD? The issue is present in live linux USB sticks as well! All you need to reproduce it is a DARK BACKGROUND. This is ridiculous, it's like HP is doing everything it can to screw its customers. "Show me a white line on a white background. If you cannot, we won't respect the warranty". Can a moderator (HP employee) please look into it? At this point, I would like a system exchange. I am done with this computer. Problems are all I've had with it, and HP has done nothing, didn't replace a single part in the computer. They know I need the computer, and hence as a last resort, they ask me to return the computer to the service centre. If I must drop the computer at the service centre, then what's the point of an "on-site warranty"? This is blatant "false advertising".

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just had a rather frustrating but successful battle with spyaxe. Although I won, I have some remaining problems. The primary issue is that when I am online, some web pages open with extremely large text while some others open up in a normal / regular size. The second (not as important) problem is my desktop background is completely white. When I go through start up procedures the initial / selected destop background comes on screen, but within the final sequence this changes to solid white. The icons are present but have a weird blue shadow. Thanks in advance for any help,

On any website that I visit; all backgrounds are black and all text is white. How can I reverse this? Also, I am a stamp collector. When I visit Linns Stamp News all the web addresses are blacked out. How do I keep that from happening? While I'm at it my computer has slowed down considerably. I run Microsoft Essentials weekly, but it tells me that all is secure.

Hi guys,

I have an acer LCD monitor, and recently I noticed a horizontal white line appearing approx 1/4 of the way down the screen. It changes colours somewhat when it has a different coloured background.

It is still there when the logo appears from acer BEFORE it starts displaying from my computer. It's 1.5 years old, but I only have a 1 year warranty.

Is there any way I can fix it? Thanks!!

A:White line on monitor

You can have a failing video graphics adapter, or a failing monitor/screen. Best thing to do is trade out monitors first. Then replace the drivers.
Be sure you have a clean system.

Hi. I updated my Nvidia drivers to latest two days ago and started getting some white line on bottom right screen. The drivers are latest, so why would it do that? Also I don't know if it's the problem, just noting what I did recently.

So anyway, this line appears also on top of all other software windows that are not set to 'Always on Top'. If it's set to Always on Top then the line disappears.

Reinstalling drivers didn't help.

Cheers

Since it happened after installing the new set of drivers, did you try reverting back to the old driver revision that did work?

For no apparent reason a band of white that fades at the edges now appears down the centre of my display. It comes and goes when I log on/off, I'm sure the display is fine as it's brand new. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced a virus or worm that would cause this.
The display is a 19" HANNS-G using a DVI cable to connect. I'm new to this so I'm hoping I've posted OK.

A:White Line Down Display

Hi mickbenn,

Try a new driver(s). Look for new drivers for your video card and display and try that first.
Try reseating the video card and reconnect all cables.

One word about something being new... it doesn't mean it cannot fail. In my experiences, parts fail very early - dead out of box/dead in a month - or the fail after being in service for a while. (Of course there is the occasional lightning kill ) If you can try your display on another computer, or try another display on your computer, that will help rule out parts.

I hope this helps...

I was asked to fix my aunt's computer, but I've run into a problem: the background on webpages is white. All texts and images are displayed, but background colors and images are not. I've installed both IE 7 and Firefox, but the problem occurs in both. Some of the sites I've visited say to install Adobe Flash Player, which I've done, but there seems to be no effect. The "display website colors" option in both browsers is checked. I'm all out of ideas; any help would greatly be appreciated.

PS - I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but the issue I was supposed to fix in the first place was changing her browser. She was using Netscape, but because they are going out of business or something, she needed to change it. I don't know if her Netscape browser displays images because it automatically closes when I try to open it.

Do you have any ideas about why my computer would be doing this? Any help would be appreciated.

Hey folks!

I've recently upgraded my computer and it's been running like a dream, I love it. A few days ago I dabbled into overclocking my GPU to squeeze just a bit more power from it, and I managed to get a stable level.

This is my system:

CPU: I5-2500k 3.3 ghz, not overclocked yet.
GPU: GTX 560 Ti overclocked to 900 mhz on the core (default 822).
RAM: 16 GB DDR3 1,600 mhz 9-9-9-24 timings Corsair Vengeance
PSU: Kingwin 1,000 Watt modular
Motherboard: ASRock Extreme3 Gen 3
SSD: x2 OCZ solid 3 SATA 3

Windows 7 64 bit.

I assembled it myself, nothing on here besides essential programs, benchmarks and a few games. No issues at all in any games I've played or any benchmarks even Extreme burn furmark.

So here's what happens, there are two instances of these white lines, and they are ONLY on the right and bottom corners (hugging the exact edge of the monitor display). I never get any white lines anywhere else, or any other graphic anomalies. The white lines only occur on occassion when I load a new area when the screen is completely black, and when a grenade or missile explodes near me and the entire screen goes black for a split second.

So what's up with that? Driver issue? Game issue? Or is my overclock really being crippled by Crysis on a small level?

I am not really an IT professional, but everyone in the office brings their problems to me since there isn't anyone else. This one I'm stumped and even search engines have failed me.

There is a laptop with a white line across the left side of the screen, about a centimeter thick with a thin green border. It appears to be "above" the desktop and task bar, because things like the mouse or icons disappear under it but still function normally. The problem has apparently been around for months (possibly over half a year) and there aren't any restore points prior to it.

The computer is a Compaq 610, running Windows XP Home SP2. Other than the white line it seems to be fully functional, but I really don't know what it is. Here are some of the things I've noticed:
- It's not a program or at least doesn't appear in Task Manager as a process.
- It doesn't change when the resolution changes.
- The computer doesn't seem to have any problems with viruses.
- The line is there starting at the POST screen and stays constantly (including Safe Mode) except when the screen briefly goes blank prior to starting up Windows.

It would seem like potentially a graphical problem but I really have no idea what to check or what would cause this. The user of this computer remembers no details and probably won't be helpful in getting any information. They have also taken the computer back, so I hope I haven't neglecting anything important to check.

A:White line along edge of screen

Connect an external monitor - does the line appear?

If NO, then you have an internal cable or screen issue.

If YES, then you have a graphics chip/card issue.

No matter what I change my desktop background to or how I go about changing it, it always stays blank. The selected background will appear shortly after startup and then it will change to a blue background for a moment and then it turns all white and stays that way. The icons show up allright. Has anyone had this problem? I have scanned my computer with anti-virus and anti-spyware and even paid for RegCur software to correct the problems found in my directory. Any thoughts?

A:Desktop Background Is White

Open your Control Panel/Display/Desktop tab/click on the Customize Desktop button.
Now click on the Web tab/uncheck the box next to My Current Home Page and any other listed web items. Make sure the box next to "Lock desktop items" is unchecked.
Apply and OK.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The "problems" you had (spyware?) added a white html page. When selected in web items, it covers the existing desktop.
Unchecking it, removes it from the desktop. If the file name is mentioned in Web Items, after disabling it, you can search for it on your hard drive and delete it.

Hello you all, this is my first post here so sorry if I violate etiquette.

I just upgraded and have been tweaking my windows 10, but I have one nagging problem (a few, actually but lets address this one 1st).
I have a dark grey theme set for my accent color and that colors my title bar just fine, however if the window is in the background my nice, easy ion the eyes title bar goes to some annoying bright white color. Anyone know how to prevent this from happening? I just want it to stay dark grey non matter if it's in the foreground or background.
Also anyone know how to just make it all solid black? I tried doing a bit of searching and came across a program called winareo tweaker, but when I use that little program to set my custom color to solid black, after I go to personalize and change my accent theme color, it'll actually show up as blue.
Simply getting a consistant dark color on these borders has been an uphill battle!

My son installed and ran a game today...it froze during one part. We rebooted. Now the white background flickers (not just in the game but all of the time)....doesnt actually go black or skip or anything like that but its really harsh on the eyes. I've tried resetting my colors (they are at 32bit) tried changing the scheme...it still flickers. Any ideas?

running XP pro, newly installed just a couple of days ago.

Go to control panel then display then settings tab then advanced - adaptor tab then see what the REFRESH RATE is set at.
My setting is 85 hz but yours will depend on youre set up.
I would go for OPTIMAL if you dont know the setting to use .
