I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Confused?
You thread states how can I create a Vista Recovery CD using your Laptop with Vista Basic.
You Can Not as your laptop maybe different than his computer.

Your Post states how can you create an XP recovery CD from Vista.
In the second case you can not. as far as I know.

You will need the original XP recovery CD or a retail XP CD to reinstall the OS on your friends computer
Does he have a recovery partition (could be Hidden) on his PC?

Hi all. All the discussion about a bootable recovery disc, and this article I ran across the other day. The article says you need the original installation disc. I have a machine that the disc didn't come with.

Vista SP1: Create a recovery disc - istartedsomething

If I don't have the original disc, can I still make a Recovery Disc thru SP1?
I know that there are a lot of places to download a ISO image from. In fact I downloaded one yesterday from a source in this thread.

Complete PC Restore- HOW??

But I am under the impression that it would be better to use a disc created after you have loaded SP1 if you have to do a repair?
The question is, will I be able to create a recovery disc after I have downloaded SP1 if I don't have the original install disc?
Or should I just create the one I have the image for and if I need to use it then Reload SP1 after I get running again? I am very new to computers and I will appreciate any and all help I get. Thank you.

A:Vista SP1: Create a recovery disc

Hi Ted,

Since you have a OEM Recovery installation dvd, you will need to create or download this ISO file to create the Recovery Disc instead of what was given by the SP1. You will just burn the ISO file to a DVD or CD to use it as a Recovery Disc.

My daughter installed some upgrades on her windows 7 laptop, following this it will not reboot into windows. Have tried all the obvious things the only option now seems to be a system recovery but she will lose her applications. Only restore point is from date of service pack 1 and that was unsuccessful.
Dont have system image disc.
I do have a recovery disc from another PC and can boot from this.
The laptop passed start up tests.
Would it be possible to uninstall the recent upgrades to see if that helps?
Does minimised image recovery option allow you to keep applications, would this be better than system recovery?

A:Re: Cannot restore computer to factory condition or create recovery disc

First off backup any data that you can't live without off of the computer and save it to a USB Flash Drive and by using an Ubuntu Live CD.
You can try your recovery CD and see if you get the option to Repair My Computer or to get to the Command Prompt. Here type chkdsk C: /R the Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors.

I currently want to wipe out my computer and start from scratch as there is a lot of junk on it and too much of it to delete it manually.
I tried using the 'repair computer' option when windows starts by pressing F8 but I get the error message '0xc000000f' and something about how the boot failed because the device is inaccessible. My computer can start up normally, I only get this when I try to use the repair option.
I thought I would fix this by making a repair CD but when
I try I get the error message saying 'system repair disc could not be created, the parameter is incorrect (0x80070057)'
I thought I could get around this by downloading and burning a repair disc manually and it appeared to work until I chose the option to restore my computer to its original state, then it says something along the lines of 'windows could not find system image'.

My laptop is a hp touchsmart tmt-2050ea and runs windows 7 home premium

p.s. Im not sure if it helps but i think the recovery partition of my laptop was deleted , maybe reinstalling it would fix it... but alas I don't know how

A:Cannot restore computer to factory condition or create recovery disc

if the recovery partition was deleted and unless you created the proper recovery disks when you first got the computer, then you are basically out of luck. You will need to get with hp and purchase a set.

you can go into disk management and see if the recovery partition is still there. just right click computer, click on manage, then click on disk management.

I have a question and am in hopes someone has the answer. Ok my Dad has the Vista64 on his Gateway computer. Well he didn't make the disc when he first got his new computer. We are needing those disc due to we had to take it to bestbuy(under warranty), and they are telling us they have to have the disc to repair his system due to it is corrupt and they are going to have to wipe his system clean and take it back to the original factory settings. This OEM Recovery Disc that is showing in this post and link, can I download that onto my system which is XP to put it on the disc for that? OR will it actually download a vista 64 into my system? I don't want to mess up my system so this is why I'm asking. Was going to purchase the disc but have no idea where to buy them at.

Thanks for the help!

A:Create or get OEM Recovery Disc?

First there is no link shown.
Second, what is the name and make of your computer. There is usually an Fkey that can be used to go back to factory settings.
You cannot make an OEM DVD at this point.
You may be able to get one for cost from the manufacturer/seller of the computer.

Hi, recently Vista failed to start on boot-up and I had to do a restore to partition one to get it going. Needless to say this is a lot of work as I lost all of my settings.
Vista (32) came pre-installed on my laptop so I don't have the disc. On windows 7 it seems easy enough to create a recovery disk from "backup and restore" but I don't see the same option in Vista. I have read in forums ways to do it but these were pre SP1 and I have SP2 installed. I want to know if there is a way to do it through Vista. Cheers

A:Need to create a recovery disc

Hello Alamshar,

The recovery disc created through "Backup and Restore" is not the same as your OEM factory recovery disc. The recovery disc through "Backup and Restore" can only be used to repair Vista with, and cannot install/reinstall Vista. The OEM factory recovery disc, can only be used to do a clean install of Vista with.

If you wanted to create the OEM factory recovery disc instead, then please post back with what brand your computer is and if it's a laptop or desktop. I'll be happy to see if I may be able to find and post back the instructions for how.

If you type "System" into the search bar you will get "Create a System Repair Disc". You can make a recovery disc within windows yourself. This would be handy if you can not boot into the self healing Recovery options Menu or instead of using an OEM or Installation disc.. It takes about one minute to make a recovery disc.

A:Create a System Recovery Disc yourself!

Hi Aaron,

I do not think that is working yet in Windows 7. It will create one, but when you go to test it, it is a dud. The problem is that it does not ask for the Windows 7 installation dvd to be inserted, as it did in Vista, to add the boot files needed.

Did yours work?

Hi everyone

Could any help me I have bought a new netbook which obviously has no CD/DVD Drive. I want to create a backup/recovery disc, when you go into it says it will take 2 blank DVD's. It then says no optical disc found. I connected it via an XSync cable to my laptop hoping I could do it this way but no! I plugged in my 500gb external hard drive hoping this was an option but it wasn't either.

Packard Bell say a 4gb flash drive or the hard drive should work. Any ideas how I can do this? When it say no optical disc found it doesn't give you an option to browse or send it to another drive.

Many thanks Jo

I want to create a system repair disk from the system backup partition on my Thinkpad T410. I've got a couple of problems. On one hand, Microsoft's Create Windows Recovery Disc utility (I assume) works only from Microsoft's Windows ISO file, not from Lenovo's backup partition. On the other hand, Lenovo's Create Windows Repair Media program appears to write only thumb drives, not DVDs. Without going into details, this is both a concern and a practical problem. I expected to, and want to, create a repair disk (or disc), not a thumb drive.  Is there a way to create a DVD instead of a "media" from the backup partition? If not, I'm considering downloading Microsoft's Windows 7 image and burning a repair disk from that. But I think this is a poor solution because Lenovo has included drivers and utilities into the system backup partition that the Microsoft Windows image will not have. But I can't find information about what I'll miss if I use Microsoft's image instead of Lenovo's, and what (if anything) I could do to obtain the missing material. Can anyone help dispel the confusion?

Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP1, IE8

I spent at least 12 hours burning iso, re-installing Vista, updating etc etc etc.
I just finished activating it by phone.
So, I decided to create a recovery disc so I won't be facing the same predicment again, ( I was just a computer beginner back then.)
I follow this tutorial published by Brink :
Create a Recovery Disc

Problem started in
9. Take ownership and Allow your user account Full Control (permissions) of the recdisc.exe file at this location (step 7).

In my C:/Windows/System32, I don't have recdisc.exe. I have recdisc

So, when I right click at recdisc, Take Ownership was not available.
If I skipped that and continued, when it came to Copy and Replace, it asked for confirmation, and when I clicked continue, it wouldn't let me. Said I don't have the permission.
I just re-installed the darn OS and I was the only user, hence the only admin.

So, what should I have done ?

Thank you.

A:unable to create Visa recovery disc

Hello T-4-2,

"Take Ownership" is not in the context menu by default. The link in step 9 shows you how to add it. You will have to take ownership of the recdisc.exe file with your user acccount first, then set permissions of the recdisc.exe file to Allow your user account Full Control.

I have a laptop that came pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Basic. Within 10 days of purchase, my hard disk crashed and was replaced. At that time the authorized service centre installed OS Windows Vista Business. I have created a set of recovery disc which contains the factory settings of my laptop (I mean which I got after hard disk replacement-Vista Business, and also contained promotional offers of 60 days free Norton Internet security and 60 days free Microsoft office).

I checked my OS for its genuineness status on microsoft's website. It reports my OS to be GENUINE.
Now my problem is "Is my OS really genuine?" I don't have the product key as the sticker which I got on the laptop contains Vista Home Basics's Product Key. I found the product key using a 3rd party utility that tells me keys of all installed softwares.

My next problem is I don't have a Vista disc. What I have is the recovery disc, which is very different from OS disc and is not useful in many situations. How can I get Vista ISO from recovery disc?

I believe if what I am trying to do is not possible, in that case can I get such an ISO from microsoft?
And if even that is not possible, if I somehow get a disc from my friend and then install Vista from it by entering my own product key(which I have discovered using 3rd party tool), will my installation still be genuine? Can I copy my friend's DVD for future use?

If your programs are designed for Vista, they will work in Win7.

EasyBCD claims it can handle dual boots Windows and Linux. But, being that Fedora is a cutting edge distro, it may have something new that EasyBCD can't recognize. I would call up EasyBCD to ensure that it works with Fedora 13.

There is another option for running Linux instead of dual booting. I use SUN's Virtual Box. It is a free virtual machine, similar to VMWare ( ~$160 ). So I can run Linux while I am inside Windows. Works great for me.

Since you're planning to install Win 7, I would save the money and not order a Vista disc.

A:create a boot disc for vista

Welcome to TSG!

You create the Recovery CD from the Recovery partition on the hard drive.
See here for info, or check the User Guide.

My friend for got his Vista password (has only 1 account). Can I create a resent disc for him on my Vista machine that will work for him to reset his password? Does it matter if his machine is 32-bit and mine is x64? And, does it matter if he's running Home Premium and I got Business edition?

Also, I heard that the UBCD might help him reset the password, is that true?

It seems many in the Forum are having an issue with corruption either of the User account and/or Windows that may be a result of Malware and/or User error, and suddenly find themselves without the means to fix or re-install Windows Vista.

If your system is up and running without issue, or you plan to upgrade your hard drives in the future, be proactive and create your own Vista O/S Recovery Disk now. For those even with a Vista DVD, and/or a Recovery Partition the time saved in means of Driver and Program re-installation is a fraction of what it would take you to painstakingly reinstall Windows/Updates/drivers/Programs in the event of unrecoverable failure or error.

If you have a Vista Retail/Upgrade/OEM disk (as opposed to recovery media), and are having problems, there is also a a way to "repair" Vista without losing your Data/Programs.

Here is how:

1. Create your own Recovery Disk for free:
Requires DVD's, and/or External Hard Drive at least 250GB in size (recommended)

Download and Install Paragon's free Disk imaging software (drive backup), This will create a Bootable Recovery Image of your entire Hardrive and Installed Partitions.
http://www.paragon-software.com/home/db-express/

Set up Vista's File Backup Utility to backup weeekly:
Start>Control Panel>System and Maintenance>Backup and Restore Center

HOW IT WORKS:
In the event of catastrophic failure, boot into Recovery image, and reinstall, then res... Read more

Hi there all,

I really hope you guys can help me!

I bought a Samsung R700 for my son 3 years ago. He has had so many problems with this machine and has had to spend hundreds of pounds on repairs/replacements. Jacks, batteries, chargers, overheating problems and now the latest problem.

I will explain as well as I can.

On start up he could put in his password but then after clicking, the screen is black with vertical broken lines right across the screen and nothing else happens.

He can use it in safe mode for basic internet connection. He backed up his files onto an external drive and then used the Samsung recovery disc to try to restore Windows etc. It didn't work. Still exactly as before.

I found out online that there have been defects with the NVidia graphics card he has, the 8400. I rolled back the driver to an earlier one and then managed to start up in normal mode but then all the critical error messages started coming up.

I didn't realise this was a malware at the time and started following it's instructions for fixing the errors. It said 6 were fixed and 5 were not. I got suspicious when it said I could purchase the fix and googled it then of course arrived on your forum.

I cannot get access to internet explorer on the computer so will have to download any removal tools to my own computer first. I have enabled Windows firewall but cannot enable Defender and there is no antivirus now and I cannot find any programs or IE so cannot download an an... Read more

I've been meaning to make a recovery disc for Vista SP2 on my Gateway GT5656. I do have the "Operating System Disc" that came with the computer, which is what I use to reinstall Vista, or install it on a new hard drive. It's 32 bit. Do I need to make such a disc, or is the OSD all I need? Thanks, Mike

That should be the vista install disk. What happens when you put it in?

Hello,
I am trying to obtain a Vista recovery disc (32 bit) for a Compaq Presario V3617LA laptop.
When following the online ordering instructions here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3571594#N316

there does not seem to be a Recovery Media option under the software and driver download section. Does anyone have any ideas? I do have the p/n and s/n.

Thanks very much!
