ThinkPad Yoga S1 AND Yoga 12 - pen stops drawing /...

Q: ThinkPad Yoga S1 AND Yoga 12 - pen stops drawing /...

I have two staff members with different Yoga models, but with the same pen issue. Say, for instance, OneNote is open. The pen doesn't draw or write, but it can select and still be recognized. When I try using an old stylus from an HP Elitebook, it works TOTALLY fine - even the button on the pen functions properly. This suddenly started after months of the Lenovo pens working fine. I thought maybe it was a driver issue, but it can't be as the HP pen works.... I'm thinking it's the pen itself just getting worn down? It looks okay though but may be just a little loose... Any help / direction would be greatly appreciated!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, I bought a Thinkpad Yoga 260 two weeks ago and it has this annoying problem that touchpad stops responding time to time. It can happen during working with laptop for few seconds or just completely goes off that I have to restart the machine. Also sometimes when it wakes up the touchpad does not respond. Please advise if I have to send it back or there is a fix for it. I have all drivers updated and lenovo companion does not find any issue regarding driver date or hardware defect.  I am really disappointed for this price tag receving such a poor quality device.  Parham

Hi guys, I've got a Thinkpad S1 Yoga 8GB i5 with a standard HDD 500GB and what I've notice is:one barely notices that the HDD is spinning when starting up or when left idle after booting.I can move the laptop around and the HDD is always as quiet. I bought another Thinkpad S1 Yoga 4GB i3 with the same standard HDD 500GB and I'm noticing the following differences, so wondering if there's some kind of a problem with that hard drive? As soon as you power it up the HDD starts spinning and it's quite loud (compared to the laptop above, ie, it's not really loud as such, but compared to my 1st one you can definately notice that it's spinning whereas the other one is almost always quiet). It keeps continuously spinning once it's booted up, even when idle (and even though the task manager and resource monitor doesn't indicate anything using the disk, it's reported as 0% usage a lot of times)then when I move the laptop the most minimum, the HDD stops spinning and then starts again, so if I'm using it in on the move, you can notice that the HDD is continuously stopping and then starting, which seems quite weird to me. I had never noticed that before. I've tried Win 7 pro, Win 8.1 pro and Win 10 pro and it's happening in all of them. The Lenovo diagnostics for that HDD don't report any problem either.... Any idea if the 2nd HDD is behaving correctly? or anything I could change to make it work like my 1st laptop? Thank you!

I have a problem with my Thinkpad Yoga 460 which started to occur about 2 weeks ago. Sometimes after bootup the keyboard does not work when I have to supply my passphrase for the hard disk encryption. The solution I have in this situation is to turn the battery of in the UEFI setup. Then pressing the power button for 10 seconds and then enabling the battery again with the power cable. This works reliable to fix the issue, but it is very annoying and when I am at the university there is no socket to enable the battery again. Is something broken or is there a workaround for this issue?

I experienced a bizarre problem today and although I've resolved it now I thought I'd post it here just in case someone else experiences the same issue. The issue was in regards to WiFi not working properly on my Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga S1. After a restart my computer's internet (with WiFi on) would work for a few minutes then it would stop. Long story short, I tried various things, and even uninstalled Norton and other software which I thought may have been a culprit but still the same issue. I also used a USB to Ethernet port (since there is no built in Ethernet port in the ThinkPad Yoga) and connected my computer with a cable and disabled the WiFi to see if it was the wireless hardware not working. Unfortunately still the same issue. Finally I noticed in the Windows Task Manager a process called "Discover.exe". It turned out this was using some noticeable amount of CPU and wondered what this was doing as I hadn't seen that before. I found out that this was a piece of software bundled in with my computer called Lenovo EMC Storage Connector. I'm not sure why it was running but I ended this process. Viola, suddenly my internet was working again! This time no problems.I uninstalled this software utility to make sure this doesn't cause this issue again. I can't understand why Lenovo bundles this software but this seems to have a serious defect and has cost me hours of trying to work out what was going wrong. I hope this is hel... I am hhaving difficulty finding an acceptable scaling mix between resolution, system scaling, and edge scaling. At 1080p, 125%, 125%, os navigation is mostly fine, but edge text is way too large. At 1080p, 125%, 100%, edge text is way too small. At all combinations text is inflated (but crisp) in certain elements while fuzzy in others. What scaling combinations work best for you? I am considering returning this to Best Buy and upgrading to a Pro 4 / Book, or even a Mac. The scaling is ruining an otherwise great experience.

HiI am used to T420, 450 laptops, and looking for Yoga with similar easy type keyboard (good key travel, less actuation force) and easy on eyes screen anti-glare/matte.  Looks like they don't make matte displays now. Is the keyboard on X1 yoga and its anti-glare comparable or should I get thinkpad yoga 460 (that is a pound+ heavier). Also how does a anti-glare screen protector compare with display already built with anti-glare. If the X1 yoga anti-glare is not sufficient, should I then add this 3rd party screen? Thanks

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

I intend to buy an X1 Yoga (IPS or OLED) for my business and connect it to my two Dell U2417H monitors. Looking at the Dell user guide, I see that you should be able to use one cable from the laptop and daisy chain the two monitors. The Dell user guide states that the PC/laptop graphics card must support "DP1.2 with MST transport". * Does the 1st gen X1 Yoga have DP1.2 with MST transport?* What about the 2nd gen X1 Yoga? Understand the mini DisplayPort has been deleted on the 2nd gen X1 Yoga and left only a HDMI and Thunderbolt connection. How would I achieve this daisy chain connection? Thanks

Hi, I have 3 problems with my Yoga 460: 1. (this should be easy):Where do I get a backup image for my system from? I did not find any links on the support page. 2. I tried to download the bios update to version 1.18 from the website. If I click on the windows installer file, there is always the message "file not found". If I try to download the iso file (which is indeed working), I receive an error message about wrong format when trying to mount it to a usb drive. 3. This is the most important issue for me at the moment:As soon as I try to update my system with Lenovo Companion software, I always get the message that I would have to upgrade my Lenovo System Interface Driver. If I hit ok to install this app, I get a download link. I tried installing it several times. After having restarted the system, the same error appears again (with the same download link).  I would really appreciate if anyone of you could help me on these topics! Greetings from Germany, Simon

Check if after installing it, it will work with Lenovo Companion.

My hinges are quiet  and smooth, but they are tight and sturdy so that the screen is stable in any orientation.  I'm sorry, but without hearing or feeling yourem there is no way for me to say if yours are "normal", but it is common for a tight hinge to make a little noise when it begins a motion.

I have recently bought a Thinkpad Yoga 460 with Thinkpad Pen Pro. I leave it in the laptop slot for charging for more than a day and it gives me only a few minutes of usage. As per the user guide, it should be 80% charge in 15 seconds and 100% after 5 minutes. But it runs out of charge very soon. It shows me the low battery level indicator as soon as I use it on the screen. First day of usage (appox 4 days ago) it gave me about 30 - 45 minutes of continuous. But after that not more than 5 minutes. Please let me know if this is an issue with the Pen or Laptop charging port. Is there any way I can troubleshoot it?Please also let me know the average usage time for the pen, if you are continuously using it.

Hi
Welcome to the forums.

I do not have that kind of pen, but I think is the one that has some "bronce contacts" at the top of the pen. I had read some other post about it, just in case check that "contacts" to make sure they are touching with the charger when you put the pen into it's holder. Sometimes the contacts may move.

Got Thinkpad Yoga 260 delivered today. Haven't turned it on yet and was checking it out. Lifting it up and slightly shaking produces rattling noice around the right hand side hinge. It's either hinge itself making that sound or inside the laptop around top right corner. Any ideas on what that might be and how to possibly fix it? Should I just consider sending it back to get fixed instead? Thanks. Edit: I suspect it could actually be a right bottom corner of the LCD right over Yoga 260 imprint where the rattle is. There is nothing I can do to fix that. So much for a brand new laptop...

Hi, After working out that my laptop (Thinkpad Yoga S1) most likely has a digitizer, I purchased a pen for it. However, since I wasn't 100% sure, I bought a cheaper, off-brand pen that people said was compatible, the listing for which can be found here. I received it today, but my computer seems unresponsive when I try to use it. When I went to Wacom Pen or Pen and Touch Input, the pen calibration screens were either blank (Wacom) or didn't load (Input). Is there something else I have to do to make my pen work? Did I purchase the wrong pen? If it helps, the pen slot on my computer is still plugged; I was going to unplug it, but to do so I'd have to remove the back paneling, and one of the screws keeping it in place has been stripped. The thread confirming that my laptop has a digitizer is here. Thanks!

A:Thinkpad Yoga digitizer pen

Hi

Please notice that this is my personal opinon and it does not mean I'm 100% right, this is based on my experience.

I think that the "Digitizer PEN for Lenovo ThinkPad X60 X61 X200 X201" is for older Thinkpad models. I have a Thinkpad Yoga 14 (Similar to S1) (20DM008UUS) and it has a digitizer screen, but it requires an "active pen" (with batteries inside) to be able to work with the digitizer.

I have the Thinkpad Pen Pro and it works fine with my model. I still think you have a digitizer on your laptop but I think it is the wrong pen.

Here it also some more info about the pen that Amy wrote.

Regards.

I had to send my X1 Yoga (20FQ) back for service as it reported a hardware fault. Sounds like it was due to a corrupt driver reporting a false positive. They had to reimage the laptop, so when I got it back I was starting from scratch. When I opened the Lenovo Companion App (I'm on Win 10 Pro 64), the home page (under the big "Optimise Your Thinkpad" button had this: Thinkpad X1 Carbon 4th This got me thinking - did they put the correct image on there? I hadn't noticed it when I first got it a month ago, so don't know what it said then. I didn't want to rebuild my system only to find it needed to be reimaged again. I called the repair centre, and they seemed to think it was correct - that that profile was the correct one for my serial number. They put me through to technical support, who thought I was correct - it was the wrong image. They sent me out a recover USB to try again. I've just done that (reimaged) and the Lenovo Companion App says the same thing. Given I got conflicting reports from Lenovo support I thought I'd try the forum here first - to see what other X1 Yoga owners have in their Lenovo Companion App. What does yours say? Maybe the X1 Yoga and X1 Carbon are so similar they can use the same image? Much Appreciated

I purchased a refurbished ThinkPad S1 Yoga (20CD-00BYUS) a month ago, from eBay (US-based shop) with guarantee active up to April 2015. Everything was fine and satisfying until yesterday. After a normal shutdown the night before, it won't power on anymore. No noise, no other sound. I tried to push the emergergency reset button as instructed on the manual, but it didn't work.I tried also making bootable USB, but also didn't work.Anyone have idea what I have to do before the ultimate option = send it to the customer service for repair? I read some similar problem in this forum and it seems useful to check the MB cable. Hello,I'm having trouble since I recieved my LENOVO ThinkPad Yoga 14 two months ago.It is on guarantee.I've noticed that the master fan keeps starting even if the computer is not working at full capacity. Sometimes, it starts right after windows as finished booting! And it's a brand new computer, Intel i7 CPU and 8GO of RAM!The fan keeps working then even if I'm only surfing on the internet or working on word. It's REALLY annoying. I feel like this is already an old computer by it's blowing. My old computer, a 5 years old Toshiba Satellite, doesn't blow so much.I've searched over the web and found that LENOVO had released a new UEFI Bios that was suposed to fix this problem. I've installed it and nothing changed! The fan kept on turning on for nothing else than a gmail home page.I've already asked about another problem on the ThinkPad Yoga 14. It's about a background noise on the built in speakers. Here's the link: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Background-noise-on-ThinkPad-Yoga-14-bu...I'm not having a good experience with this Yoga 14. I was looking for professional quality and it is not.Can someone tell me if they have the same problems? What LENOVO is going to do about it?Thanks.Ludovic.

A:ThinkPad Yoga 14 - The Fan keeps on turning on eve...

Hi ludovicfd Can you please post the full model number of you machine and which Windows version are you using?. For example my TP Yoga 14 is "20DM008UUS" and I didn't experienced those issues.  I'm guessing that your machine fan is blowing too much and making huge noise. In my case I can feel more the hard drive noise than the fan, it is not like the HDD is "that loud", but when you are on a quiet enviroment you can feel it "scrattching". Do you want to try first updating any firmware / BIOS on your machine at the latest level ? After that another alternative will be to try to update the driver for the chipset and power. The basic thing for me is to try to update the drivers and firmware this way:- Windows Update- Lenovo System Update- Lenovo Companionand after that search manually for updates on the Lenovo Support site with your specific model number. Sorry, it is trial and error to see if a driver can fix your issue. If after updating the drivers, you think it is hardware issue you should try to contact Lenovo's Customer Support site Regards
