I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

This is just a quick question for all of you out there. I am physically disabled, and at the moment have trouble typing. I'm assuming you mean with a PC. How will they be sampled? Uploading a file or picked up by a microphone? If you have a smartphone Shazam or Soundhound apps recognize many songs.

If you mean PC, Shazam recommends the following: Musicbrainz, Tunatic or AudioTag.

Greetings All,
This could be the strangest request in history but I thought I'd take a shot.

I'm in search of a piece of software that is capable of looking at an actual image adding its properties or for lack of a better way to say it, Its appearance to a data base and using that information to find duplicates of the image on a system.

My reasoning for this is I am a Photography and Art buff as well as a Wall Mural Artists, Over time I have accumulated well over 150,000 images on to my computer and have now decided I would like to attempt to sort them. First off by getting rid of duplicates then I will start on actually placing them into subject categories.

Does anyone know of software that can do this ? I know some must exist simply because if it did not then police and forensic labs would have no ability to do finger print matches based on the saved images of finger prints placed in their data base.

Thanks Very much in advance for any and all information in regards to this inquiry

I use Abbyy FineReader Pro and am very satisfied. It was well worth the price.

I also have an older version of OmniPage Pro 12, that I bought through "Nothing But Software" as a close-out, which leads me to conclude that full-versions of the top software will work very well.

If you contact the manufacturer, you can often get a deal on a competitive upgrade (or upgrade) from the free version you got along with your scanner. (ie- PaperPort, Abbyy FineReader, or OmniPage.)

good luck,

I was curious if there was any software out there, that you can have it scan the screen, and copy all the text. And of course it's not that simple, but to copy the text, with the same formatting....preferably into an access table...?

A:Solved: Text Recognition Software

No, not if it is just an image. OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software can read the text and then translate it to text format, but the formatting is lost because there is no format information contained in an image of a document.

Am thinking of getting a Voice recognition program, but not sure what to use.
Probably would't be used to surf the net, or operate the comp. by voice comand; main purpose would be writing a short story (or series of same). Not an author (as in published), but have ideas I want to work on, and was thinking that because of my 2-finger typing style, VR would be useful for this.

A:Voice Recognition Software .... What would work best?

Gary
There are two main Speech Recognition programs on the market today. Dragon Naturally speaking and IBM Via Voice. I attached reviews by two websites. My personal experience is with IBM Via Voice and I expect Dragon will be about the same.
My thoughts; the software has finally broken the barrier of ability to obtain a high level of accuracy. First versions were wrought with problems. If you plan on using any speech recognition software you will have to spend a great deal of time teaching it your speech patterns. During initial set you have to read many lines/statements and so on to set up a base to work with. Once that is complete the fun starts. After you have input a document you will have go to each and every mistake and manually correct it to teach the software the nuisances of your speech. This may take several tries for many words since they can be accentuated many different ways.
Also along the way of teaching the software periodically backup the voice file on some removable media to protect your work.
After you have gone through it you certainly would not want to do it again!
Here are the reviews I mentioned.

Hi,

I have several audio cassette tapes I would like to convert to text. They consist mostly of clearly spoken interviews and the audio quality is good for a cassette tape. They go for many hours, so I wanted to connect them to the computer, let it play, and come back and change tapes.

I connected the cassette player directly to my computer's mic jack. I tried using Dragon Naturally Speaking 7, but that didn't work well, because it is designed for people talking directly to it. It requires "voice training", and thats not possible with the voice on cassettes. Not only is the accuracy very poor, it will always stop after a few minutes, giving an error that "the utterance was too long to process".

One of the possible reasons may be that I trained Dragon to a male voice, but the voices on the audio tapes are female and quite different. It would have probably worked better if there are "presets" or without training, but those are not availabe in Dragon.

Is there any software designed to do this job? If you have any other tips, please share.

Accuracy isn't that important, as long as it can get the job done (get through the whole tape)

Thanks a lot,
Dan

Hi guys,

I'm posting this question for my dad. He's a doctor, and he's not good with computers. Like many older doctors, rather that type up his own reports he dictates them on a tape recorder, then a secretary types out the dictation, then he goes back and reads the reports and corrects the secretary's errors. This is terribly inefficient and it ends up taking him probably twice as long as it would if he had decent typing skills and just did it himself. However, he insists that he's too old to learn how to type fast, and maybe he's right. Anyway, it seems to me that some decent speech recognition software would probably achieve the same results (cutting out the middleman and need for multiple proofs). He tried using dragon's software back around 2000 and it didn't work very well - too many errors. I'm thinking of buying him the latest dragon software since I assume that the quality is alot better 10 years later. But I don't really know. So, what is the best speech recognition software if price isn't too much of an issue (as long as it doesn't cost $1000)? I haven't personally used siri, I've heard it's great although I'm not sure how it would do with more complicated medical terminology. Although at the moment he spells out any word with more than about 5 letters. So I don't know how siri compares to dragon, or other targeted speech recognition software. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

A:Voice recognition (transcription) software

Dragon gets good reviews, claims 99% accuracy and I've seen it on Amazon for under $100.
Depends on the input and how well you train the program, otherwise it's garbage in, garbage out.
All speech recognition programs require a little bit of perseverance, to achieve good results,
particularly where technical terms are used, but the programs learn from you.

Don't know your father's OS, but Win 7 includes speech recognition and control and it works just fine.

Hello everyone. I hope this is the right forum to post this question. Recently I've been having a look around for some free OCR software in regards to converting a few scanned book pages to editable text. Quite a few people I've asked have mentioned the Microsoft Office Document Imaging program but that's no good in my case since I don't use Microsoft Office at all. I was thinking of trying the free SimpleOCR program (anyone have any thoughts on it either way?) but that brings another problem. I think you can convert your scans to .TIF by using Media-Convert (http://media-convert.com), then use SimpleOCR to complete the procedure.

I couldn't find a software forum so I'm posting this here.

I remember using voice recognition back in 1998 where you could talk to your computer and it would do what you said, or if you said "Begin dictation" it would then type everything you said until you say "Stop dictation" where it would then start doing what you say again, and you could say "Go to sleep" and "Wake up" to turn voice commands on and off entirely.

If it worked so well in 1998, it can only be near perfect now, and for some reason I'm making more and more typos using a keyboard so I think it's time to switch back to voice recognition.

What are good options available in 2011 that allow both voice commands and voice dictation?

Thanks

Unfortunately Veriface is not compatible with Windows 10 and that is why the Windows upgrade removed it.  Please see this Lenovo Knowledge Base article regarding Veriface and Windows 10.....

There is a third party software application that some folks are using in place of Veriface.  That application is called KeyLemon and more information on it can be found here.....
