Lenovo z580 ideapad - return to old BIOS without having a backup file; I have 2 laptops z580

Q: Lenovo z580 ideapad - return to old BIOS without having a backup file; I have 2 laptops z580

Greetings everyone!
Here is the problem, sadly, i am not the only one that has it- So, i have this perfect z580 ideapad which got a BIOS update before few years... and it started running slow, and some other problems appeared. So i want my old BIOS back. The new one is the 5FCN95WW... but sadly i have no backup of the old BIOS, i think it is 5FCN34 or 35WW. I saw tons of information around the internet, many posts here in the Lenovo forums, i've downloaded countless files, used many programs, even backed up my own BIOS and nothing.
I haven't seen even 1 solution from point A to point B for "How to backup and then flashback to the old bios again if needed", so please, tell me what can i do.
1: How can i obtain a file of the old good original BIOS
2: I have 2 Lenovo z580 laptops and just one of them is with the new BIOS, the other one has the old BIOS - can i somehow make a file of the old BIOS, transfer it to the other laptop and then flash back to it.

Thank you in advance, i hope to see a good answer these days, which will save me much troubles.

Preferred Solution: Lenovo z580 ideapad - return to old BIOS without having a backup file; I have 2 laptops z580

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Lenovo Ideapad z580 Win10 64 I updated the bios with the private update (I know now that I should have used the public update) Then it showed this menu:http://i.imgur.com/kZaO2tf.jpg Whenever I selected HDD, the screen would go black for a couple of seconds and return to this menu. I fixed it by going into BIOS and changing bootmode from UEFI to Legacy. it booted but now everything is slow. It takes 5 mins to boot up and a further 15 minutes to reach usable speeds (I only have 4 startup programs). I tried changing it back to UEFI and it gives me the same problem as shown in the picture. I tried installing the public update, but it says that I cannot update as the current bios version is the same or newer. I went into BIOS and enabled BIOS back flash, and now when I try to start the public update, it just crashes. I also cannot access the start menu (this problem may be seperate and unrelated) I have backed up files and am prepared to do a clean reinstall of Win10, but I feel this won't work as it's a BIOS issue. The computer is unusably slow: what should I do? Thanks

Hi Barmod ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As you have tried doing power drain , it would be best to proceed with the recommended power check out as described from the hardware manual (page21) :

To verify a symptom, follow the steps below:
1. Turn off the computer.
2. Remove the battery pack.
3. Connect the AC adapter.
4. Make sure that power is supplied when you turn on the computer.
5. Turn off the computer.
6. Disconnect the AC adapter and install the charged battery pack.
7. Make sure that the battery pack supplies power when you turn on the computer. If you suspect a power problem, see the appropriate one of the following power supply checkouts: ? ?Checking the AC adapter? on page 21 ? ?Checking operational charging? on page 22 ? ?Checking the battery pack? on page 22

Isolating from the ac adapter with another known good charger can help determine other probable cause like dc in port issue ( specially if the cable get easily loose) , power button and board (test if Novo button can turn on the system) or the actual systemboard itself (where battery indicator light should be able to show up led for charging).

Update us how things go.

Regards

This machine has been working fine until the battery died. On purchasing a replacement and after charging I switched on the machine only to be confronted with a black screen with the icons above the keyboard flashing, then after a couple of seconds the machine re-starts with the same symptoms and continues to start-shutdown-start. I have removed the power adaptor and the battery and held down the power button for around 60 seconds without success. The reset/restore button that is located next to the power button only produces the same result when pressed.During the start-up process, NOTHING is seen on the laptop screen OR an externally connected monitor. I have also tried known good replacement RAM and hard drive and have installed a new CMOS battery but the fault persists. Can the BIOS be updated via a bootable USB flash drive without access to the screen? I seem to have a failed laptop Can anyone suggest a remedy?

Hello all! I have a IdeaPad notebook that is approximately 6 years old and that I purchased from a friend several years ago. It came stock with a standard 5400 RPM HDD with Windows 8 on it, and I last night purchased a Intel 545s SSD (standard SATA connection) to install in the machine and install Windows 10 on it. It is a brand new SSD with nothing on it. When the Windows installation wizard gets to the point it asks me where I want to install Windows to, I get nothing in the window at all, and the SSD does not appear to be recognized in BIOS. Am I doing something wrong on my end, or is the SSD not compatible with this model of IdeaPad?

I've recently been having issues with both my wireless adapter and the cooling fan in my Z580. I upgraded to Windows 10 about 1 year ago. My fan does not seem to work at all, I can't hear it and the laptop climbs to very high temperatures. More recently the Wifi has been disconnecting and my router disapears from the list. Switching on and off the computer helps 80% of the time. I'm not exactly sure of where to start to try and resolve this.

Hello, I had a z580, and the screen broke. Being a 5ish year old laptop, I decided to just remove the screen and use it connected to an external monitor. However, when I boot to bios using the novo button, nothing is displayed on the external monitor. I believe it is trying to display on the internal monitor, which is now gone. Switching to the VGA port on my monitor comes back with "No signal". My question is, how can I get the bios to show on an external monitor through the VGA port? Is there a certain key combination I have to press while in bios? Thank you!

Info- I am using a Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 with windows 8
So just earlier today my wifi was working fine. Then randomly I lose wifi and it won't list any networks that I can connect to. I did some troubleshooting and it says that my Software Radio is off. How do I turn it back on? I do not have a switch or button anywhere that I can see on my laptop.

A:Solved: Lenovo IdeaPad Z580- Software Radio off

Normally the radio button is in the control panel under wifi/ or wireless adapters. You will be able to turn it on/off from there.

I hope this helps.

Hey,

I seem to be having an issue with the wireless on my Lenovo Ideapad Z580.

After a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate I have no wireless. The "Network Controller" controller comes up as flagged under Device Manager. Installing the wireless drivers provided from the official website doesn't help, they either tell me I don't have the correct hardware or tell me it hasn't installs and gives me the option to reinstall using recommended settings, which also doesn't help.

Any help at all would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Hello bree1234 and welcome to TSG.

I'm guessing it's not but if it's still under warranty send it for repair.

Is the screen completely blank all the time, no text or anything else is displayed at all ?

Shine a light onto the screen and check if there is a faint display of text etc.

I am extremely upset because I think I have just ruined my laptop through trying to perform a BIOS update which LENOVO provided through the website.I had recently reset my computer to factory settings via the ONE KEY RECOVERY button. After basic setup and startup, I decided to install the BIOS update Windows 7 64 Bit for my PC. I downloaded the two files provided: public and private, and moved on to first click on the public file. This opened up another application with various options which the README file provided no information on.Anyway my computer began to restart itself and perform some operations to which it is now stuck on the BOOT MENU.Each time I turn on the POWER ON button, I am directed to the BOOT MENU, and I have no option to use my computer as normal. Please help me on this.

Hello friends, I have been struggling with my 4 year Lenovo Z580 ideapad that abruptly getting turned Off within 45/50 seconds of every power On. It's just instant and with small click noise. Upon continuous attempts i used to get very rare successful boots (keeping itself turned on even for hours/full day) upon 20/30 power on attempts with varying time intervals. Meanwhile i managed to run lenovo diags basic/extended on all peripherals with no errors, and managed to repair broken win 10 system/boot files couple of times thinking its BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO as it used to prompt earlier when it last powered on atleast for 2 minutes, But since couple of days its ALWAYS switching off within a Minute! Upon a lot of research i thought it could be since corrupted BIOS (might be caused by overheating CPU and fan not working for couple of weeks!) and as it also getting off upon simple DOS boots. So today, i decided to flash BIOS and followed instructions in a mail chain (https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Lenovo-Z580-BIOS-Mod-V3-1-FINAL-02-07-DOWNLOAD) as can't boot Win 10 anymore, Started flashing BIOS-Mod-V3-1... via a USB stick i prepared, though i'm quite fearful about an abrupt shutdown! My fate, it got powered off during flash progress just when FPT client erased my current BIOS and when about to write new files **bleep**! As a result it seems i lost current/damaged BIOS and now if i try to boot, it starts with black screen! a new gift. Ofcourse i'm able to s... Read more

Hi everybody, I saw many of problems like mine there, but I can't still do anything after several attempts to solve that.  It started two weeks ago.. I did cleaned my hdd, then to keep my device lil a bit update I have updated few drivers. First day, it was able to boot up after 10-15 attempts. (Holding down the power button, disc. battery, ac, reconnect and power button again). Since that time I was unable to get to the BIOS, set Boot order, and I couldn't see even the splash screen. Several days it did the same and the attempts grew up.  Last time it was able to launch, its about 4 days ago, I was watching, film then I felt asleep. When I woke up in the morning, the screen wasn't black but still slighty light(not off, fans were working, cooler was fine). Since that moment I couldn't boot it anymore. I tried reseting CMOS battery, tried to flash bios by using flash disk and Fn+R (laptop did different thing but after 15secs it has turned off).. I think it is frozen BIOS but I haven't clue what to do when I can't simply set the boot order.  Maybe I am wrong and the problem is only in the motherboard. Novo button works but everything I choose there, it ending by black screen again.  Thanks for help, maybe for any solutions how to fix this. I am prepared to buy another motherboard, but if I would be able to repair it on my own, I would happy. Thanks,Jakub.

Initially it had Windows 8 but then I somehow managed to clean install Windows 10 on it.I said somehow because I'm trying to do the same right now, but I can't manage to do it!The problem is I can't find any way to boot from USB to access to the Windows 10 installer. It's a well known problem with Lenovo Z580 that many people had. When I clean installed a couple of years ago I managed to boot it from the USB, but I tried so many things now and I can't do it!I tried clicking the Lenovo button (which is how it's supposed to work) but nothing happens. I tried to access the BIOS but it doesn't let me go on it, whatever button I press on boot. I tried to reboot from Windows 10 going on Settings -> Recovery, still I can't get to boot via USB.Does anyone have a suggestion about what to do?Thank you.

Good afternoon, I am quite disappointed because I see many problems with BIOS or BOOT problems for Lenovo Z580.I still can't find solution for my problem. The point is I can't go to the BIOS with lenovo recovery button. I had to pull out battery of bios and then I could go there. When I changed some options and saved the settings, the bios had still same options like before. I can't swtich the boot priorities. However I inserted boot flash with WIN10 to install that, but I can't because of the boot priorities. I am stucked. Also I tried all key shortcuts, It does nothing. I really don't want to  take out the HDD and re-install the windows in different PC via sata.  Can you tell me how should I boot the flash or CD with windows when I can't set up the boot priotiry? All I can see is blackscreen.  The point with lenovo recovery button is also weird. I own a Lenovo G700, and I have heard that Shift + F2 will get you into the BIOS. It might work if all else fails. You can also call Lenovo support or search around a bit more. But in my case I have to use the hardware OneKey Recovery button to access it.

I got taken in by all of the messages from Microsoft insisting that my computer was fully compatible and that I should upgrade to Windows 10. It never dawned on me that I should have checked the Lenovo website first to be sure. After the upgrade I noticed two things: (1) the system seemed to be working pretty well, and (2) I couldn't find Dolby Home Theater v4 (one of my absolute favorite programs). When I finally looked at the Lenovo website I found the following page with the heading, "Dolby Home Theater does not work after Windows 10 upgrade" (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht104006).When I checked the "Windows 10 upgrade supported list" (https://support.lenovo.com/documents/ht103535), as the page instructs, I saw that Ideapad Z580 wasn't on it. The page goes on to say that if your machine isn't on the list, "drivers have not been updated for that machine, and Lenovo does not recommended an upgrade to Windows 10." The page continues with possible solutions, but does it make sense to even try them? Then I found another page on the Lenovo site entitled, "Windows 10 Upgrade Guide - IdeaPad and Lenovo Notebook" (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht103611). The news here wasn't any better. It says, "The following listed computer models include hardware components not fully compatible with Windows 10. Therefore, upgrading these models to Windows 10 is not recommended." Unfortunately, Z580 is on this list.So there are, according to Lenovo, software and hardwar... Read more

A:I upgraded my Ideapad Z580 i5 to Windows 10. Big m...

Hello mgsilv,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums.

I shall give you my opinion on your questions.
1. Since the system seems to be running without any major problems (apart from Dolby), should I stay with Windows 10?
That is up to you. The fact that your model is not supported means that Lenovo has not tested some older models. The way I see it, if not tested, there is no guarantee that it will or will not work.
2. If I stay with Windows 10, should I try the solutions described in "Dolby Home Theater does not work after Windows 10 upgrade" (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht104006) to restore Dolby Home Theater?
If I were you, I would try the solutions, especially as long as you have the option to revert to the previous operating system. Make sure System Restore is enabled and working. It wouldn't hurt to create a Restore Point before you attempt any change to Dolby. You also have an option to roll back drivers using the Device Manager in Windows 10.
3. Since Lenovo says that the Z580 has "hardware components not fully compatible with Windows 10", am I headed for problems if I continue using Windows 10?
I cannot answer that because I do not know what type of changes Windows 10 will make in the future, and if your hardware and/or software will continue to be compatible..

I accidentally spilled a little bit of soda on my keyboard a few days ago, and now I've got some lovely sticky keys that are driving me bonkers.  I know in most keyboard, you can just pull keys out, then click them back in after cleaning them. But I have no idea on this model, because I am aware that sometimes keys cannot be put back on some keyboards. So before I start pulling away, I want to make sure. I have looked all over the place and cannot find a simple answer. - - I just need a yes/no.

A:Z580 ideapad: Are keys removable?

Hi Eliatrope ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Technically Z580 keys are removable so it is a yes.

Keyboard specification and here ( page 28 ):
Full-size keyboard, 6-row, multimedia Fn keys, recovery key6 Row QWERTY (Standard) Full Keyboard
FRU list page 94 - 121 as sample part

Hardware manual don't offer specific key removal guide as entire board is replaced but some party would offer individual key repair such as here and here .

Take time to review the highlighted links first  and as usual technician practice , to try it with one NON commonly used key .

Hope this help answer your query.

Regards

Hai

I am using a Ideapad Z580 with Windows 8.1 64 bit.
All was working fine.
But I formatted the C drive and reinstalled my Windows 8.1 OS.
Then I installed all my drivers.
After a reboot the screen started to jump(flickering). The top part of the screen(small portion) is appearing and disappearing in the bottom area.
I tried to change the refresh rate. But it is locked in 60,and no other options are available.

What could be the possible problem and is there any solution????

3 out of 4 of my usb ports have quit working.  What can I do?

Mod's Edit: Edited model number.

A:Ideapad z580; usb ports not working

Hi kitcharles ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

When did the issue started ?
Thinking that maybe some setting / drivers changes caused it and you can just do system restore to jump back to a previous restore date as initial step.

Would there be any yellow or black downarrow mark on Device Manager .
Try to show hidden devices in device manager .
Under Universal Serial Bus controllers for USB Mass Storage Devices  , right clcik and uninstall then restart the pc.

You do have 2 USB (ver3.0) port on the left , and 2 USB (ver2.0) on the right based on the user manual (page5).
Which is not working ? Rare that all 3 would go out at the same time but if it does reflect the hardware systemboard controllers for the issue.

If same issue , attempt a power drain and set BIOS on Defaults .
Shutdown and unplug the ac charger, remove the battery and press power down for 15 seconds to drain.
(if you have a USB keyboard and mouse to test, attach it )

Put back the battery and ac charger and turn on using the Novo key (item 6 page2)  instead.
Novo menu apears and choose BIOS set up , f9 to default and f10 save and exit
(would the usb keyboard work tapping on caps/ num locks , usb mouse lit if functional )

Update us how it goes.

Regards

I am working on a system running Windows 7 Home Professional.  The system will no longer boot to windows and stops at the Lenovo splash screen.  I can access the bios and I slaved the HD to my desktop and found errors on the HD including cross linked files and folders.  My system repaired the errors but still won't boot up.  The main goal here is to get Windows up and running again so that I can save all files and folders in MS Office.  No pst files exist.  I have ordered the complex services support package and it should be here in a day or two.  My question is, can Windows be resurrected in a manor that will not destroy MS Office/Outlook without loosing all files and subfolders.  Should I try to restore the MBR in debug mode?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi All,  I have ideapad Z580 notebook (i7-3612QM @2.1GHz) with Windows 7 Home premium Service pack 1 (64Bits). I have troubles in my computer and want to reset windows to factory settings. I don't have any recovery discs, previous system image or OEM files to recover windows. I have tried 'system recovery' many-many times but if also ends up to the error. I had also tried 'Lenovo onekey recovery' but it also doesn't starts properly to reset windows.  Only option I can see (may be) is the windows recovery system with OEM (or recovery media) files (please correct me if I am wrong, and guide with other options).  Can somebody who has the ideapad Z580 with Windows 7 home premium SP1 help to share the initial OEM files (or recovery disc images (ISO files or so) ) so that I can recover my windows from this serious trap. Please advise if my understanding is completely wrong and may be there is any other option which I can use to solve this. Many thanks in advance.

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my Z580 laptop keeps crashing.  When it crashes the first thing that happens is the Wifi disconnects then a couple of minutes later the screen freezes and the entire laptop is unresponsive.   When in aeroplane mode the computer never crashes when connected to network via ethernet card, but it would be helpful to get Wifi working correctly.  According to windows 10 I have the latest driver.  Can anyone advise the best driver to use, where to download it and the version number.   Help please!
