I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently found out the hard way that there is apparently no application key on this model's keyboard when trying to switch between host and guest input in VirtualBox (by default this key is part of the keyboard mapping to switch control back to the host OS). What is the Fn + key combination to cause the same key code to go through? Shift + F10 doesn't work for this use case, which was the solution given in a different answer regarding the absence of this key. It has to be the actual key. Or am I going to need to use a third party tool to manually map that key or change the VirtualBox mappings?

does win2k have system restore utility.....?Also Windows should auto have at least a few registry backups you can go back to. You can do this in DOS using a scanreg type command/ or from the Start/Run prompt too.... I'm not an expert, so i'll leave it to you to ask the professionals precisely how that's done-it is easy though.

I have uninstalled windrar and now want to use default windows 8 zip facility. When I am right clicking on a folder and go to "send to" then I am not seeing "compressed zip folder" option.

I have few files which are already in zip format, When I am righ clicking on that and select "open with" and then click "choose default program" then I am getting a message saying " application not found".

Please help me to fix.

Hello dev, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If you like, see if downloading and merging the .reg file for the listed .zip option in the tutorial below may be able to help. It will restore the default associations for ZIP files.

Hi all. When I right click the desktop, and select "New" there is no longer New Bitmap Image. I was thinking it was setup similar to the "Send TO" option, but I see no folder anywhere. When I google it the best I can find is some TweakUI program, which is not what I want.

In the registry I found the hive where it resides, but adding here is only temporary. [HKEY_USERS\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Discardable\PostSetup\ShellNew]

Anyone know where to add the items to the context menu?

I have been using PowerPoint since Office XP. It didn?t have and still doesn?t have an Edit entry on the context menu for .pps or ppsx files. This is very annoying when we want to edit one of those files as I often do. I made the necessary change in the registry, and the Edit shortcut showed up on the context menu for .pps files for XP and 2003, and then also for the ppsx files for and 2007. I exported and saved the modified registry settings to be able to just import them at any time I had to reinstall Office. It was simple, for each new Office version I only had to modify the path for PowerPoint and it worked.

Now, I have tried to do the same for 2010. It does have an Edit key under Shell, but the Edit shortcut doesn?t appear on the context menu. I don?t understand why it doesn?t work now. Am I making any mistake or is there another reason? Can someone, please, enlighten me on finding a way to do it?

OS is Windows 7 Ultimate SP1. Following some system file corruption, It was reinstalled about a week ago. Since then tons of updates downloaded automatically (as recommended by MS).

It started from yesterday that my context menu options under "right click\new" has become limited to just "folder" in all "drive volume/partitions" i.e. drives D: ,E: ,F: , etc. and not in just C: where it is actually correct by default to show just the "folder".

So, I'd appreciate if you could advice how to restore the list of options under "right click\new" to the other drive partitions

Hi,

I recently uninstalled iZArc 3.81 and after doing so I no longer get the nice looking "soft" theme on file and folder context menu. It now looks like a Win2000 styled menu.

If I go into a folder and click somewhere in the empty space, then the context menu looks fine, but do it on a folder or file and it just looks ugly!

Has anyone else had a similar problem? I have posed on the iZArc forums, but I am not sure if it's a software or Windows 7 issue.

Can anybody help?

Okay, I'm not sure if this can be done as easily as I'm hoping. What I'm wanting to do is move already existing context menu items into a cascading context menu to organize and reduce clutter. For instance, I would have a cascading menu named "Scan with" and inside it would be avast! Internet Security and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

On a side note, does anyone know how to remove the following context menu items?
Computer
- Show on Desktop
Control Panel
- Show on Desktop
Images
- Set as desktop background
- Print
- Rotate clockwise
- Rotate counterclockwise
Music/Videos
- Add to Windows Media Player List
.txt Documents
- Print
- Edit

Hi
I'm helping a friend who had a malware infection, which has now apparently been eradicated. Vista Home Premium SP2 32bit. I don't know if the problems it still has are a result of the malware, or if they were preexisting on my friend's computer. But I suspect they were used by the malware to protect itself.

*The taskbar won't unlock, even temporarily (in contrast to the folder properties issue mentioned below).
*I can't show hidden files/extensions, even temporarily.
*Folder properties can't be altered permanently, e.g. the user documents folder is always displayed as "Pictures and Videos" type instead of "All Items" ; can't set to use Windows Classic folders, show full path in Title Bar, etc. These items CAN be altered temporarily, but the previous settings always revert on rebooting.)
*Context menu items such as new folder, new text document are not present.
*Deleted files do not show up in the recycle bin.
*No matter which browser (FF or MSIE) is set as default, when the default browser is reopened it always states to this effect: "This is not the default browser. Would you like to make it the default browser?"

These did not return to normal after doing a system restore to 3 weeks before the time the malware became apparent.
The system restore was done before eliminating the malware. The following were tried afterwards:

Tweak UI won't allow it, and I'm not sure how to fix this at the Registry level.

An extensive search of the web only netted me a number of "How to remove...", but no "How to add/replace..."

All I recall doing, last evening was opening a .dat file and saving a copy of it as a text file (No, I don't remember which it was). As soon as I'd finished saving, my Notepad icon changed (fixed that) and both Notepad and Wordpad were gone from the "New" context menu.

Hey guys,

let me start by congratulating you on this GEM forum you have set up.

I found all my answers to some annoyances on this forum

Background to the problem:

(OS: Windows 7 Professional x86)

I have managed to create a Homegroup in Windows 7, everything works great.

Though I cannot share a single file but "Share with" appears in the context menu of a folder. (see images attached)

Problem:

When right clicking the file i want to share with other computers in my network, I don't get the "Share with" or "Sharing.." entry in the context menu.

Maybe I messed up with the registry, I hope this is repairable

Question:

How can I add this entry to the context menu of the file I want to share?

I would be grateful if someone helps me out

Thanks & Regards
Kyle

A:"send to cd" missing from context menu

You can try this:
Copy the following into a .reg file and double click.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Send To]
@="{7BA4C740-9E81-11CF-99D3-00AA004AE837}"

Or you can try Restore the Right Click
To use the VBS Files:
Download .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double
click the vbs file. You will be prompted when the script is done.

NOTE: If your anti-virus software warns you of a "malicious" script, this is normal if you have "Script Safe" or similar technology enabled. These scripts are not malicious, but they do make changes to the System Registry.

Disclaimer: These registry edits and script files are presented "as is". Every effort has been made to ensure the files work as stated. I assume no responsibility for your use of these files.

{D969A300-E7FF-11d0-A93B-00A0C90F2719}

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Jake

Perhaps this regfile will work:

It's listed for XP, so I would backup the necessary keys or whole registry, first. Your choice.

Hi

I wondered if anyone out there has had a similar experience to me...

For some weeks now I have had problems where the START MENU wouldn't launch, metro apps (OneDrive, Tweetium, Money, News etc) would fail to launch (just a blank window up), right mouse clicks wouldn't work, internet browsing slowed up...
Signing out of my windows account then back in again solved it... FOR A WHILE. After an hour or two gradually (one app after another etc) the same problems would occur.
Researching this, I came to the conclusion that Windows 10 was corrupt (or at least my user profile was) and a re-install was necessary. OR I also read of compatibility problems with Windows 10 in my AV software (Kaspersky Internet Security 16.0.0.614) and wondered if the problem lay there.
Yesterday I uninstalled Kaspersky and relied on Win Defender. For 2 days now (unprecedented recently) my laptop has behaved impeccably, no problems as above.
So, am I to blame Kaspersky? Am I safe with Just Win Def? Any other AV suites throwing up problems? Any Kaspersky users with any experiences to share?
Thanks!

Hi, I'd like to add a context menu entry to the default set
Open/Open all users/Explore/Explore All users/Sort by Name/Rename etc
which appear when you

right click on a folder in an expanded Start menu (after 'Programs).

Technically, the 'folder' is a 'file folder'.

But the normal set of file folder context menu entries is suppressed by Windows in this instance.

Thus normal additions to the context menu set associated with 'anything' or 'file folders' or 'directories' never affects this set (so far).

I can add context menu entries which appear when I right click on a shortcut, but NOT folders.

I've tried Fast Explorer, and a couple of other utilities.

'Sort By Name', 'Explore All Users' are not in the registry. (Normally context menu entries appear in one of about 6 locations).

Ideas welcome!

Background: I want to do this 'cos I want to keep a 'bad' context menu entry that stops explorer running from this context menu (some programs do that, alas, thus you can't right click, explore the start menu once you install them and their context menu). Normally I have disabled such entries using Shellex View.

So I want to add one which uses a different file manager.

Thanks!

Almost all computer users need to restart, shut down or hibernate their systems at some time and doing all these things were easy enough in previous Windows versions such as Windows XP, Vista and 7. But suddenly Microsoft introduced Metro UI in Windows 8 and removed the Start button and Start menu from Windows 8. Although you can get start button and start menu back using this tutorial but that's a different thing. Many Windows 8 users are facing problems in getting used to this new Metro UI and Start Screen and the most difficult part of this new interface is the missing power options. There is no direct option given to restart, shut down, hibernate, sleep your PC.In this tutorial, we'll tell you how to add a new cascading menu in Desktop context menu (right-click menu) which will provide easy and direct access to all following power options: Lock Log Off Switch User Sleep Hibernate Restart Shut Down Shut Down (Hybrid)More info at the link: http://www.askvg.com/add-cascading-menu-for-restart-shut-down-hibernate-and-other-power-shortcuts-in-desktop-context-menu-of-windows-7-and-8/

Hey it's been a while since I've last been here, I really enjoy this Win 7 community hope everyone is doing well.

Anyway let me cut to the chase, basically I want to be able to remove the MagicISO context menu from the right click context menu in Windows 7.

See pics to understand what I'm talking about.

Even after unchecking the "Enable Shell Integration" (see picture 3) option in MagicISO Maker, it still shows up, and when I open the program again the check box is still ticked for that particular option.

I know I never had any issue in Vista or XP, but in this version of Windows it seems unable to work.

I looked on the http://www.magiciso.com website for an update to the program but there doesn't seem to be any at the moment. I've got the latest Build 0281.

Call me a "control/neat/OCD freak" who wants and needs everything in his life to be almost perfect ! LOL but really, I just like my right click context menu to be nice and tidy. I don't use MagicISO that often and when I do I do all my work within the program. Therefore I don't need the MagicISO option to be present.

Anyway I hope my issue is clear, perhaps I would have to modify the registry or something ?

Thanks for all your help I appreciate it !

Jordan

A:Unable to remove MagicISO context menu from right click menu in Win 7

Hello Jordan,

You can use either ShellExView or ShellMenuView to make disabling that context menu item easy.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
