I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Bitlocker PROBLEMS

de/en-crypting + power outage ( or other disruption ) = gone forever.
Try booting up the Windows 7 DVD, when you get to the first screen hit SHIFT + F10.
Type is DISKPART and try and clear and format the external drive.

Next time...do not encrypt an entire 500 GB hard drive.

I am trying to encrypt my hard drive and the partitions on these drives but I am having problems trying to do this. On the C: drive when I try to turn on BitLocker I get a message saying, 'A compatible Trusted Platform (TPM) Security Device must be present on this computer, but a TPM was not found. Please contact your system administrator to enable BitLocker'.

The thing is though if I try to encrypt the D: drive which is a partition on the same HDD as the C: drive then I am able to encrypt without any problems. Also If I try to encrypt my G: drive which is a separate drive altogether then I have no problems, which I find strange. Why would I be able to encrypt these 2 but not the C: drive, and how can I actually encrypt my drive.

Regards.

1. Are you in a work environment?
2. If the answer to number 1 is no, do you have TPM installed? This sounds like an HP computer perhaps?

I am afraid you have a problem. Bitlocker is only available in enterprise and ultimate. To turn it off you would have to re-install ultimate, turn it off then install Pro

I've tried implementing the BitLocker feature on my Windows Vista Ultimate computer that does not have a TPM, thus using a USB flash drive as my key. I go through all the steps of saving my key, saving the recovery password, printing the recovery password, etc., but when my system reboots, I receive an error window stating the following - BitLocker Could Not Be Enabled - the BitLocker start-up key or recovery password could not be read from the USB device. BitLocker was not enabled on the drive (see included image). I tried this over and over, using different flash drives, reformatting them, trying different USB ports and still no luck. I have the latest BIOS installed on my Dell PC along with all the latest Windows Vista updates including SP2. Also, I have no issues using any of my USB ports when using any other USB device, icluding reading files off of any USB flash drive. Any ideas?

When I receive my new laptops I deploy an image to them. The image is Windows 8.1 Pro on UEFI with legacy. I would of preferred to use secure boot but couldnt get it to work with clonezilla. Anyways, I am getting this error .
I have looked the error up and they said I have goto https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929834 and try this but it doesnt work.
I went into the local group policy and tried some changes there but no luck. Could it be that it needs to be in secure mode for it to work? I am only having problems with the computers that I Imaged. My image i delete dont have all that junk that comes with the dell disk so my system partition is 300mb. Any help would be great.

Let me begin with how I use my X1 Yoga 2G. I always leave it powered on. The power settings are set to Sleep mode when I close the lid and Hibernate after a few hours. The other day, I opened the lid and was using the system with no problems. When I was done, I closed the lid. A couple hours later I opened the lid and the system made a bunch of speaker sounds and the screen was blank. All I could do was force a power off. When I turned the system back on, I get a Bitlocker screen asking for a key. I did NOT turn Bitlocker on nor do I have a key for it. looking around Microsoft on another system for the key I found it. After entering the key on the Yoga, Windows booted up OK using my Windows PW. The PIN and thumb print reader was not usable. I stopped Bitlocker from the bitlocker application in the Control Panel. Now I'm left with the Sleep mode problem. Whether I set Sleep mode when I close the lid or enter sleep mode from the Power menu, I get the same results. When I try to come out of Sleep mode all I get is speaker sounds and a blank screen. I have to force a Power off to get started. All the latest Windows and Lenovo Updates are on the system. I ran a full Lenovo hardware scan and didn't find any problems. Before I open a problem with Lenovo, can anyone on the forum help me with this Sleep mode problem? Thanks, ezcat

Hi
After rebooting one of our test machines, bitlocker wanted the recovery key.
There were no hardware modifications on that machine.
Error message in event log:
Bootmgr failed to obtain the bitlocker volume master key from the TPM because the PCRs did not match
Event id 24635, source bitlocker-driver
Each time the machine starts, the recovery key is needed.
Any idea how to solve that issue and why it happens?
update:
Second partition was created manually on that machine. So that's clear that bitlocker reacts...
But now: how can I confirm those changes so that the recovery key is not needed each time we boot?

Hi,

I would like to confirm if BitLocker accepts the recovery key?

Please update the BIOS to improve the stability for TPM first.

I also would like to suggest you disable and enable BitLocker again to reset the settings.

Hello and good afternoon, I have a issue where a manager started the Bitlocker process on the SD card in his Surface Pro 3

with Windows 8.1. The Bitlocker attempt failed at 3.4% completed but the SD card ended up being Bitlocked without providing the Bitlocker Recovery Key (I've never seen this happen before). He doesn't know the password for the SD card and of course
I've been tasked to somehow release the encryption so that he can get the required information off of the SD card.

Is there anything that can be done to release the encryption on the SD card or has the SD card been made non-accessible moving forward?

New to this forum, and this is my first thread. Please provide me with some help if possible.

So my problem is the following: Kept getting BSODs from some driver inflicting with ntkernel according to whocrashed and bluescreenview. Anyways, disabled my network card as I thought that was faulty, updated all my drivers and checked my ram with memtest just to be sure. Was still getting the BSODs.

Decided to use driver verifier to see which driver that caused this. Bad idea. Turns out that one of the drivers indeed was faulty, but now I'm getting blue screen before I can even log in to windows. Tried to boot into safe mode a thousand times by repeatedly pressing F8 and shift+F8 to no avail. Thought that I then could turn of driver verifier from the command prompt, but No! (Since if I could turn this of the BSOD before system start would then stop since the purpose of windows driver verifier is to force the faulty drivers to create BSOD).

Then downloaded EaseUS Recovery Essentials to see if that could help. Turns out that my ENCRYPTED (bitlocker) drive on which my operating system is on, can't be found because I'm assuming that the change in boot order previously when running memtest disabled it.

Now had to find my win8 installation CD to force it into safe mode alternatively to re-install it, but to no avail. It says that the hard-drive is still locked even though I've got the key in a USB stick attached to the computer and even though I manually put in th... Read more

I turned on Bitlocker on three new Windows 8.1 laptops and saved the 48-digit recovery keys and associated identifiers, but I forgot to indicate which laptops they are associated with. Is there any way to find the identifiers/recovery keys on my laptops so I can document this? My only options under Manage Bitlocker are Suspend protection, Back up your recovery key, and Turn off BitLocker.

Initially I found that BitLocker on the Go supported removable media like flash drives and external drives. Why isn't a CD/DVD supported since it is considered removable media? Will this support be available in future releases?

A:Will BitLocker or BitLocker on the Go ever support CD/DVD encryption?

Hi,

Bitlocker to Go is not supported on CD/DVD. Your suggestion is valuable, I will forward this information to the appropriate department through our internal channel.
Both the Microsoft Product Team and Development Team will take into consideration all suggestions and feedback for future releases.

Currently, you may need third party software to encrypt CD/DVD.

I am trying to enable BitLocker on a Windows 7 Ultimate x32 system with TPM. I follow the Wizard and when asked to encrypt the drive I select 'Run BitLocker system check' and 'Continue' (see attached sreenshot).
The USB is inserted and contains the recovery key (.txt and .tpm). During reboot I get:

Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption Information
The system boot information has changed since BitLocker was enabled.
You must supply a BitLocker recovery password to start this system.
Confirm that the boot changes to this system are authorized.
If the changes to the boot system are trusted, then disable and re-enable
BitLocker. This will reset BitLocker to use the new boot information.

Otherwise, restore the system boot information.

ENTER=Continue

Windows then continues to start normally. After login I get an error message: BitLocker could not be enabled (see attached screenshot).
When I check TMP it shows as active, initialized and owned.

I've started out from scratch several times - same results. I can't figure out what the problem is.
This is driving me nuts.

Hello guys I recently bought a second hand X250 with an Intel 240gb SSD installed and I am planning to install also an M.2 SSD to install Linux.I have already installed Linux in another partition in the Intel, but in general I am not a big fan of grub and also I don't like the restriction of maximum 4 primary partitions per disk. I would prefer to keep the Windows drive 100% clean of any Linux staff. So, I'm planning to install my Linux in the M.2 drive (I have already cleaned my system disk of the Linux staff, grub etc) and I was wondering if choosing the boot up device from the bios is going to be an option, without grub or other boot loaders. I just want to leave the Intel as default boot device and when I want to boot up in Linux, I will choose to boot from the M.2 SSD.Will such a setup work in my Thinkpad? As far as the M.2 drive itself, a 120 gb is more than enough and I am planning to go for an ADATA. I have read a lot of negative reviews about the Transcend M.2s and I don't trust "random" manufacturers, like ZTC or KingDian. Is there any better option for me? Thank you very much for your time. I've just received a new X250, maxed out, and I'm really unhappy. Within a few minutes of booting it, I was seeing red and blue horizontal lines on the screen. I hoped these would be fixed by updates, but regardless of the driver, they are still there. To add insult to injury, the ports on the left hand side of the laptop do not line up with the casing. The USB port can be used, but the Display Port is seriously rubbing. The VGA connector is unusable. I'd hoped I'd have the laptop a week before I started a new job, and now it looks like I will be a week later. Does anyone know how I best approach Lenovo for a replacement under the Sale of Goods Act? I really don't want it to be repaired - this is a bad machine.

Sorry to hear about the issues with your new X250. That must be very frustrating. According to Lenovo, returns should be easy providing you do it within 14 days.

I appreciate you may not receive the replacement before you start your new job. You might want to ask Lenovo if they have a similarly configured X250 in stock that they could send you instead of waiting for the replacement to come from China.

Good morning everyone. I installed on my x250 (using a free WWAN slot) M.2 SSD disk - ADATA Premier SP600 256GB M.2 SSD. First installation: April 2016. The disk worked great. After a "BIG windows10 update" the drive began to freeze and died on August 2016. The drive was replaced with a new one. On March 2017 the problem returned (in the new disk) - again began to freeze and died. From here my question arises - did I make a mistake somewhere? Do dear forumers who did similar installations on their x250 have similar problems? What can I do to prevent the problem on the third drive? During installation I did not mix anything in BIOS etc - just "plug ang play". I would be very grateful for your help.

I recently bought an X250, and immediately upon using it, found that the spacebar is not as responsive as all the older thinkpads I've had in the past. Specifically, when I type I press on the right side of the spacebar to create a space, but my usual amount of force is no longer responded to by the keyboard. If I push harder, it will respond, but that's annoying because it slows down my typing speed. If I press on the middle of the spacebar it works much better, and if I press it with my left thumb it works better, too. Does that mean I'm typing wrong all these years, or did I end up with a bad key?  I have depot service, so would Lenovo address this if I send it in? If I send this in, do I need to remove all the data on the machine? Would they replace the spacebar or the entire keyboard as I saw somewhere? How long would it take? Gotta say that the keyboard is much worse than the X230 that I am coming from. Thanks for any heads up!

Hi, I just bought a X250 today. I received it with Windows 7 Pro, and the first thing I did was upgrade it to Windows 10. After an hour of use, I noticed that the battery was draining really fast. I clicked in the battery icon on the system tray and noticed that it says: Battery 1: This battery is not available for useBattery 2: 40% (or whatever) I opened Device Manager and I see two devices listed under the "batteries" section, both of them called "Battery with Microsoft ACPI-compliant control method" (translating from Spanish, which is my system language, so it might not be exactly like this). I guess this means that the system indeed detects that there are two batteries, so it looks like a software problem. I right clicked on both of them and selected "uninstall", and then went to action > look for hardware changes, so that should refresh the driver. After doing that, the "battery 1: this battery is not available" message still appears. I also noticed that there was a power manager application from Lenovo which is not compatible with Windows 10. After upgrading, Windows notified me that this app had been removed and I don't see a W10 equivalent on the support downloads section of the Lenovo website. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Pau

A:X250 Battery 1 "is not available for use"

I also tried unplugging the second battery (the removable one). Immediately after unplugging it, the computer shuts down. If I turn it on without the second battery and plugged into the wall outlet, the icon in the lower right corner (system tray) says "no battery found"; however, on device manager I still can see one battery appearing. If I click on "properties" in device manager, it says that the device is working correctly, and there is no sign of any error log or crash report inside the battery properties in device manager.  I tried updating the BIOS and resetting BIOS to defaults, and it makes no difference. I also tried running Ubuntu from a USB stick ("try" option) and it only detects the second battery, not the integrated one.  I guess it must be a hardware problem.

I have 3 company X250's, i know they have a 16GB mSATA SSD. I throw in some new 256GB SSD's to replaced the standard HHD. Is the only way to reimage those new SSD's to take out the 16GB mSATA SSD so that they wont fail? I was getting this error every time i tried "system_thread_exception_not_handled(ndis.sys)". Is there a way to disable that drive temporally in the BIOS?

My second X250 came in with a 16GB SanDisk SSD in addition to a 500GB HDD. Reading through the forum, a post mentioned that this 16GB SSD is placed in the position of the smart card reader. The mannual says this is a 3rd NGFF adapter. I am wondering if this 16GB SSD can be upgraded with a m.2 2242 32GB SSD module (or other types). I opened the back cover, lifted the internal battery, then lifted the shining metal cover a little and I don't see a memory module and port under it. I have installed Linux Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on to this 16GB SSD; the Ubuntu install runs well except that only 1.5GB space left. I am trying to see if there is a way to replace this 16GB SSD with a larger size module. Using the m.2 port next to the WiFi card is my last resort. I need advice before taking more parts apart. Thank you.

Hi all,  I recently purchased a brand new X250 laptop, I am slightly concerned though that the hinges are not quite up to scratch. I was expecting really tight, rigid hinges, with no play or movement at all. I was under the impression these would be really tight and the only way to open, close, or move the screen would be by holding one hand on the base and the other to adjust the lid.  However, with mine, they do feel very weak and loose. When typing, there is movement of a few milimetres of wobble which I was not quite expecting.  Is there anything I could do to tighthen these hinges myself? I am not comfortable at all to take the laptop apart! I did wonder if wrapping dental floss around the metal part of the hinge would make a difference as it seems that the hinge is not going through completely. One side has the cables, and the other is attached to the base. What would be your suggestions?  It does of course have a warranty with Lenovo - but I am concerned as well as I have read that hinges might not be covered by warranty! There are no cracks at all in the unit whatsoever. No damage, and the problem is always when the laptop is on the desk.  I really appreciate any help and suggestions with this matter.  Many thanks.

Just contact technical support. It is covered under warranty. If they break, then it is considered abuse, which is not covered under warranty.

So I got a great deal on a slighlty used X250, but after using it for a bit realized it did not come with the backlit keyboard.  My spacebar does not have the little light symbol on it and obviously FN + Space Bar does nothing.  My impression was that the X250 backlit keyboard came standard on all X250's regardless of configuration.  Any ideas?

A:X250 without Backlit keyboard?

Hi and welcome, GunnderIf you purchased laptop in the Lenovo Canada on-line store or similar, backlight keyboard should be an only one option for x250. I don't see another options, in any case.Models with fixed configuration (i.e.not CTO) might have different type of keyboards, depending on the laptop model.

(Obviously after update to BIOS 1.23) my Thinkpad X250 (Windows 10 Pro 1607) always boots into BIOS. I am able to start the X250 via F12 but this can't be the longterm solution. I already tried with no success: Windows 10 start repairBootrec /fixmbrBIOS:Optimized defaultsSecure Boot disabledUEFI and LegacyLegacy firstOnly LegacyDisable "Execution Prevention" (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X240-cannot-boot-windows-7-64-bit-after-upgra...)Do you have any idea(s)? Thanks - Michael

Sounds like your boot order is messed up.  Boot into the BIOS.  Go to startup/boot.  What does it say for the order?  Hit F9 to load defaults.  Try again

My x250's CPU temperature approaches 90+ degrees when I try to watch youtube videos on Chrome/Firefox. I can hear the whiny fan speed up. I usually have the power setting at Maximum Performance in Power Manager. Is this the nature of core i ulv cpus?

That shouldn't be normal. Propably, there is something wrong with the fan assembly or the thermal grease.
