Thinkpad X1 Yoga 3rd Gen Fingerprint reader not working

Q: Thinkpad X1 Yoga 3rd Gen Fingerprint reader not working

Hi all, I have a Thinkpad X1 Yoga 3rd Gen. WIndows Hello works fine with the camera, but I do not see any settings in the Windows Hello Settings app for configuring the Fingerprint reader. The device has a fingerprint reader. I am sure the fngerprint reader worked fine when I purchased the device. I performed a full device reset as I was having issues with battery performance (now cured), but the fingerprint option is still not available. Any thoughts?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey guys and gals, The sensor had been hit or miss from day one, when it worked it would sometimes take 3 presses before registering correctly. I've been using these kinds of sensors for years on my phones so I was suprised at how much effort it took to get it to work. It often wasn't avaliable to me when the laptop came out of sleep mode, or if the screen had been locked.  One day last month it stopped working completely. It isn't being detected at all in the device manager, unless it's under a differnt name now. I tried restoring from factory and seeing if I could get it back. After running all the Windows, driver, and firmware updates, it's still not present in the device manager. I went in the BIOS and checked to see that the fingerprint sensor was enabled. It was, and then I tried to delete any fingerprint data, but there wasn't any. So I'm wondering, has anyone else has had a similar issue and if there's a way I can fix this without having to RMA my otherwise kickass laptop?  Maybe the senseor is loose? Should I open her up and make sure everything's tight? I haven't unbuckled any of her fasteners yet, but if it could save me a month of being computerless while she's in the shop, I'll gladly try it.   Cheers

The FP reader does not work on my T450s under Windows 10, even though the drivers "Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=0017)" are installed correctly.I can get into the Windows Hello Fingerprint Setup (snapshot below) but the FP reader doesn't do a thing.Following the steps suggested in Fingerprint-support-on-Windows-10-ThinkPad-T440-and-newer does not change anything. The notebook is brandnew and I didn't have Win 7 or 8 on it before for testing the FP reader, but the driver installed without any issues -- so I guess it's not a hardware problem. I'm happy for any suggestion.

Suddenly my Thinkpad P51 fingerprint reader stopped working under Windows 10 (64-bit). It is gone in the Device Manager too. I have googled and tried everything possible (I/O ports are enabled in the BIOS, reinstalled latest fingerprint drivers from https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-p-series-laptops/thinkpad-... etc.).I went to the BIOS and tried to reset fingerprint data. It showed (see attachment):No fingerprint reader is attached. I think it is a hardware issue. Any idea?

Hey,I've recently installed windows 7 on my t530 because in win10 I couldn't use fingerprint reader cz there's no suitable driver available. So back on windows 7 I installed all the latest drivers from lenovo support site. Fingerprint Reader works perfectly! Now I got like 180 Updates installed. After reboot my fingerprint reader didn't work anymore. I can open the fingerprint tool but the green led is not glowing anymore.in device manager everything is ok. latest driver installed, detected as biometric device.  also it's listed in system settings.I checked my BIOS settings and clicked on "reset fingerprint data" and also disabled the device and enabled it back.nothing seems to work.. is there any solution? Maybe windows blocked the driver or something i don't know. I've deinstalled the fingerprint software AND the driver in device manager. reboot, and installed all again. nothing.. how can this be?

The fingerprint reader on my ThinkPad L380 suddendly stopped working. I tryed resetting the saved prints in Windows Hello but when trying to register them again the procedure stops at the second step: for the first step of the registration when I touch the sensor it is recognised, but for the second step when I touch it nothing happens. The driver is updated and the system does not register any problem. Is it possible that the fingerprint reader is physically broken?

A:Fingerprint reader stopped working (ThinkPad L380)

The circuitry might have failed.  I would first try to reset everything:

1) Turn off fingerprint option in windows hello
2) Boot into BIOS and erase fingerprints (under security menu)
3) Uninstall the fingerprint reader under the device manager
4)  Reboot and let it find new hardware

You would then need to re-register the fingerprints

If that doesn't work, I would assume a hardware problem

HiI recently applied the Windows 10 April update to my x270. Everything worked okay however Windows Hello and the fingerprint reader no longer work. I have checked the Biometric settings in device manager and the Synaptics WBDI (SGX enabled) device is showing the following status"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31){Operation Failed}The requested operation was unsuccessful". I have checked everything is enabled in the Bios and also uninstalled and resinstalled the device from Lenovo. Has anyone else experienced this issue. Is it a driver incompatability with updated windows 10?Is there an updated driver somewhere please? Thanks in advance

Ever since I updated to Windows 10 1809, my fingerprint reader has not been consistently working on the lock screen. Sometimes it would turn on and scan, while other times it wouldn't work at all. I checked device manager and saw the attached screenshot. After fumbling around with some drivers, now it won't work at all. The BIOS says there is no fingerprint reader attached. This makes me think it it a hardware issue. I may try a fresh install of Windows before I contact support. Any other suggestions?

Hello Lenovo team, I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 370 (20JH0023US) less than a year old, since we set it up out of the box, we have been unable to get the fingerprint reader to function. In Device Manager, it shows the device cannot start (Code 10). We have uninstalled, reinstalled with the latest drivers, performed a BIOS update. When we try to clear the Fingerprint data in the BIOS, it sits as "Resetting Fingerprint Data" and gets no further. We have also replaced the Fingerprint reader itself (under warranty) on the keyboard bezel and it is still not working. Can anyone assist in helping us get this working? Is it possible it's a bad factory image of Windows and maybe we should do a reset? Thanks in advance!

Is this something I can fix through software or would I have to send it in for servicing? Thank!

You're not alone, and unfortunately it's been identified as a hardware issue. The BIOS message that you got is actually being used as a confirmation that the problem is hardware, not software. See this thread.

Okey!  Few rounds around the Internet got me absolutely nowhere. Lenovo said that it was a known problem and the only way to fix it is to do a factory reset.... BULLS** is my response to that. Anything software related can be fixed without nuking your system. So i refused to give up and with a bit of trial and error i found a way. You have to tie your Microsoft account to a pin AGAIN! Even if you already had one. I guess the account is tied to your hardware somehow. Here are simple steps to fix it:  1. Make shure to Activate and Resett fingerprint reader in the BIOS Reboot and enter the BIOS (f1 during boot) Go to Security > fingerprint Make sure Predesktop Authentication is [Enabled]And to to "Reset Fingerprint Data" and press [Enter] to reset Save and exit   2. Make shure drivers are up to date and working Run Lenovo Vantage (windows store) to make sure your running the latest drivers for everything including the fingerprint reader. You can also download the drivers directly form Lenovos product support page, but Vantage actually works (so Kudos to Lenovo for that one). After that check you device manager if the driver is running currently. Like this: (Start menu > type "device manager")Like this... A:Fingerprint reader not detected on new Thinkpad Yo...

Hi

I don't have that Thinkpad model, but for what I remember in some other model the Fingerprint reader was internally connected to an USB port.

You can check some programs like HWInfo and check where is the fingerprint reader plugged to see if Windows recognize there is a deviced plugged on it. It can also be interesting for you to grab the hardwareID to know the manufacturer of it.

Which Windows version are you using?
There is also some fingerprint drivers on the Yoga 260 support site for Win10 and Win7.
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...

Maybe you can also give it a try.

So, I've gone through this cycle several (too many) times over the month of owning this laptop. I'll save several fingerprint profiles (the first 2 fingers on each hand). But whenever I try to log in and happen to "misfire" with my finger and get the alternative login prompt, I find that I can no longer use that particular finger any longer in futire attempts, as if it's chosen to "forget" that profile. But I can use any of the other fingers I've saved just fine. Problem only seems to be corrected by resaving the "forgotten" finger as a new profile again. I honestly may be assuming incorrectly that this is initiated by a "misfire" (and by that I mean not landing my finger precisely on the sensor, picking up too fast, whatever). It might be that the attempt didn't cause the profile to be lost, but that it was lost for some other reason and the attempt was just the first failed attempt. All I know is that it happens.

Hi all!On my 3rd gen X1 Yoga, the fingerprint sensor correctly recognizes my finger in only maybe one of three attempts and it's incredibly annoying to press my finger on the sensor three times only for Windows to tell me "Your PIN is required to sign in". I'm running the latest version of Windows 10, I've updated all the drivers and I've tried re-learning my fingerprint in Windows Hello. It is different from the problem described in this thread: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Yoga-3rd-Gen-Fingerprint-Sensor-Forgets-En... The laptop doesn't actually forget my finger. After trying several times it will actually work again, it is just extremely unreliable.Up until now, I just assumed Lenovo is using cheap and crappy components. However, I'm using a P51 at work and the fingerprint sensor actually works fine >95% of the time, so I was wondering if this is an issue specific to my X1 Yoga and if I should return it. Does anyone else share the same problem?

Hi, I bought the X1 Yoga 3rd Gen three months ago and my fingerprint reader got problems these days. First, it couldn't recognize my fingerprint very well and I need to use the PIN sign-in every time. Then, I tried to reset it but I could not add a new fingerprint after I removed the original fingerprint. At the beginning, it just told me to touch the sensor again and again but nothing happened. I tried several times (even restart, update the drivers and try the drivers in old version) and it told me there was something wrong and I needed to try it later. Finally, it told me that the fingerprint reader is disconnected.

This is the second major problem with my X1 Yoga. Not only does the touchscreen driver crash "all the time" but the fingerprint reader does not operate about 30% of the time. Not sure what the cause/effect is because it's not consistent. For instance the light above it sometimes comes on and you can unlock the device. Other times it doesn't and it either works or doesn't. So the light is not consistent with it being ready to unlock. Other times perhaps from sleep or screensaver having locked the machine the only way in is via the password.  As suggested by Leonvo support I installed the latest drivers. But it's made zero difference.http://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-X-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-X1-...

I have this machine dual-booting Windows 10 Enterprise and Home. I set up fingerprints on both operating systems, and they both lose my FP's after reboot. The Win10 Ent OS is bitlocked, if that matters. It acts like it isn't even looking at fingerprints when I try to log in. Like, it doesn't say "Fingerprint not recognized" or anything. I log in with PIN then add a FP, then lock Windows and try to log in with new FP and it works. If I try to log in with an existing FP of another finger, it says not recognized, so it's acting like I have no fingerprints added every time I reboot. Not sure if this has something to do with dual-booting and one OS being bitlocked, but that's the only idea I have so far. I have a Lenovo Yoga 720 15" and I'm having issues when connecting my Akitio Thunder3 Quad Thunderbolt 3 4-Bay HDD storage enclosure. I have updated all the drivers for my laptop, Windows 10, and the enclosure, but I'm still having issues. Whenever I connect the Thunder3 all four drives in the enclosure register fine, but then my laptop's touchscreen and fingerprint reader stop working. Restarting while the enclosure is plugged in does not solve the situation. I can get the touchscreen and fingerprint reader to start working again if I power down the computer with the enclosure plugged in, then unplug it, turn on the computer, and then restart the computer again. The minute I plug the enclosure back in, the touchscreen and fingerprint reader stop working. I also cannot plug and unplug the enclosure without restarting Windows. Basically, if I have the enclosure connected (registered properly), then safetly eject it, I cannot get the drives to register if I reconnect the enclosure. The thunderbolt interface registers the enclosure itself, just not the drives. If I restart Windows, then I can reconnec the enclosure and get the drives working properly. Anyone else having this issue? I'm guessing it's a driver issue, but doesn't seem to be any other threads out there about the same issue. I've spoken with Akitio but they said it must be my laptop drivers.
