Microsoft Account Password in Win 8.1 Corrupted - Need a workaround

Q: Microsoft Account Password in Win 8.1 Corrupted - Need a workaround

Yesterday I got a client's Lenovo Desktop 8.1 with a corrupted Microsoft Account Password only in the computer. The Microsoft Account signon is ok, just the computer has the issue with it.  I have worked on this problem for many hours, and with no success. The computer is a Lenovo Desktop with Windows 8.1 installed with an SSD and an HHD drive. There are no markings on the case to tell me model number. I also realized after awhile that you need to hold down the Shift Key when either powering off or restarting to insure a complete boot up.
1. My client apparently opened an email that messed up his computer. He contacted Microsoft and one of their technicians got into his computer. From that point on apparently the microsoft account signon password got corrupted only inside his computer. I can signon to his Microsoft Account, got microsoft to send me a code so I could reset his password. This worked on his account only. Still cannot logon to his computer - password failed - try again message.
2. I tried F1 - Bios, F12 - Boot Menu and cannot get past the CMOS password. Boot menu lets me past but cannot change anything - trying to change boot order so I can boot to Hirens. F1-Bios gives me a fatal error. I also tried F10 to change Boot from Standard to Legacy - F10 does not work on this Lenovo Desktop.
3. Pulled the Cmos battery for 30 minutes, put it back in and no change to the Bios password, still locked out of modifying anything related to boot order.
4. F8 - Safe Mode still wants a password - thus cannot get into Safe Mode with Command Prompt to create an Administrator Account.
I need help from someone with more technical knowledge than I have. Either trying to boot to a rescue disk (Hirens or UBCD) or get into Command Mode to create an Administrator Account.
I am hoping someone will respond as that has technical experience and knowledgable, who may have experienced this before. Also anyone who can offer another solution to what I have tried so far.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am not sure how Microsoft got past the CMOS password. There should be a jumper allowing you to clear CMOS which would remove any password. With the CMOS battery removed hold down the power button for 30 seconds to remove any residual power.

The computer has SecureBoot enabled so no disk will boot even if you could get to the F12 boot menu.

Is there any sticker on the back of the computer?

I have an existing Microsoft with XBox live attached from years ago.
Yesterday, I decided to finally upgrade to Windows 8.

I did it as a clean install from Windows 7, formatted my SSD and installed from scratch.

I used my old Microsoft account as the active account, and proceeded through the install with no issues.

First thing I did when I hit the desktop was install all the manufacturer Windows 8 drivers and utilities.
Then I set up some control panel options that I typically use (disable firewall, disable UAC, desktop, speaker etc.).

I rebooted a few times for the drivers, and went through the "trust this PC" procedure.
I then updated windows using Windows update to get to the latest hotfixes.

After my PC rebooted, I seem to have lost access to a lot of control panel features.
Notably, administrative options such as "Disable/Enable firewall" that are marked with the administrator shield icon. Some of the shield options work, most don't do anything. The options are visible, but when I click on them nothing happens. There is no "you need admin rights, yes/no" box or anything. Simply nothing.

I checked the PC Settings Metro style control panel, and noticed that the "Users" option is gone on the screen.
All other options are present, and work. But Users is gone. The top option on that screen is Personalize.

I have no access to UAC options, Changing my user type, or any user options at all. And most options in the control panel do n... Read more

I am a 87 year old who had his first computer, a Commodore 64, in the early eighties and have enjoyed computers ever since, currently using WIndows 7.
Having just bought a smart 'phone, I find that I'm unable to buy apps for it unless I remember my Windows Live account password. The problem is that I must have chosen a password many years ago which I have never had to use and have therefore forgotten.
So the problem is resetting a forgotten password.
I spent literally hours yesterday complying and answering the same questions again and again, giving my second Email address, date of birth and location, mother's maiden name and the subject of my latest private Email, only to arrive back at the original log-on window. Microsoft once sent a temp. password for me to enter, which did not work.
The password reset file I made in a flash drive was a .psw file which crashed Word 2007, and didn't work.

It is obvious that many people have had the same problem with Microsoft.

New Windows 10 Home desktop. I put in Carol when it asked who would use the computer.
After a restart, it showed Carol and Welcome, then I could just click on it and use it. The only user was Carol and no password was needed. That was OK.

I set a system restore point, then I set up Cortana and it asked for my Microsoft Account and Password. I already had a Microsoft account, so I entered my name - Allen Bredt - and password.
Now there are 2 users, Carol and me. After a restart, it wants my name and password.
I can use System Restore to go back, but then what?

I want it to just give me the desktop with no sign on required.

I have Windows 7 so had no idea how screwed up this could get. I've googled this for 3 hours and the simplest of answers will never be provided. No one seems to be able to think thoroughly on this.

My 90 yr old dad has a hosed PC. It now has his login screen associated with an email address. He can't remember the password and trying to reset it with live.com also doesn't work.

Here's what we have:

email-address-user (Microsoft account) with admin privileges
locked out

If one resets email-address-user's password via live.com, does THIS AFFECT POP3 access? Meaning, is this password reset only for logging into one's PC or is this reset password synched with the actual email server one uses to download their emails? This WOULD be a very valuable piece of information but no website deems it useful. My reason for asking is I don't want to reset his password and then have it such that he can't read his emails. And I'm not about to try to communicate over the phone what he would need to do to update his client email (or internet access) password.
To get to the desktop, I tried a ton of things but the only thing that worked was net user administrator /active:yes.

What I would like to do is "revert" the email-address-user from a Microsoft account to a local account. I'm 100% game to edit the registry 100 ways to Sunday. TOTALLY.
I have to enter my damned password several times a day... really annoying.
Have you tried the netplwiz app to bypass needing a signature?
It does not work for me, but may for you...
Go to start.
type netplwiz and click on apps, see one listed, run that, UN check the box which says a password is needed.
That SHOULD do the trick but does not.

I think part of my problem is having 8 win8 systems at home, all with the same username... but you would think Wiindows 8 could allow a user like me to network with my own computers without having to deal with permissions etc... really irritating.

I've always used local accounts with Windows. But recent events have had the need for me to use skydrive which required me to login. In fairness, I don't mind logging in and backing up settings etc, but instead of my profile saying my username, it will say my full name (I fixed this issue). But it also wants my microsoft password every single time. I've changed it to pin code for quickness, but removing it altogether would be good.
Any clues?

FYI, the netplwiz trick only works for local accounts, not microsoft ones.

Issue
My brother has a PC with Windows 10 and two Administrator Users:
#1 User: MS Account (the main one, used by my brother)
#2 User: Local Account (Secondary one, used by myself)

Since the login page is usually bypassed in this PC via netwizpl setup, none of us usually need to insert a password at startup, but after a Windows Update the login page reappeared, and my brother can't access his MS account any more because his password is not recognized.

Useful info

It's no keyboard issue: the keyboard layout is consistent with settings and we also checked the correct password spelling with the "eye" icon
Resetted MS password, but no joy: we have tried to reset the MS account password. The new password grants access to the MS account at https://login.live.com, but it's still useless when trying to login to Windows with the MS account.
All OK with the Local Account: the Local Account still grants login, and since it's an Administrator account it still allows access to the other account data.
Haven't done a Restore (yet): An obvious (but not necessarily effective) solution could be a Windows Restore. I'll probably try to Restore a previous System State if I don't find a better solution, but I'd prefer to understand the cause of this issue.

A:Windows 10 doesn't accept Microsoft Account password change

Have you gone into the MS account from the local account and changed to the new password?

I assume that your local account is of the Admin group, which should give you access to the MS account settings.

I just got a laptop from an Ebay seller. It's a Lenovo Thinkpad T61. He advertised it as having no hard drive. It just arrived -- with hard drive. I fire it up and it was apparently a corporate laptop with WinXP Pro. Problem is, it wants a password. I'm sure the seller doesn't have it; he probably got these bulk and no further info -- or under orders to wipe the drives. . . So he screwed up.

Q: Can I somehow get into this WinXP Pro system? If not, I have a copy of a Vista upgrade. Can I use it without knowing the WinXP Pro password?

This is not a big deal. Again, none of my data is on this thing. But it would be nice to avoid the cost of a new OS install. . .

Hi All

Decided to change my pword before the weekend to keep it safe from smaller hands and then went away for three days. On returning, I brought my PC back from hibernate/standby and did so continuously till today, where I shut it down. Problem is I have NO clue what i set that password as, and I'm pretty sure I left a hint but it doesnt seem to be showing up, so maybe i failed on that one

So does anyone know any workarounds? maybe a bootable third party app that kills the password like you would with a second account~? I've already tried using the MS Diagnostics and Recovery toolset but it refuses to recognise 7 as a valid OS for it and therefore will not let me use Locksmith. I only have the one account on the computer, so I cant resolve this through another Admin. Its probably worth noting I have also not made any changes to the status of the Administrator account, but Ive noticed it doesnt come up in Safe Mode anymore.

So please guys, any advice would help (Well, except use decent memorable passwords of course.)

through which we can Access/Delete/Copy/Replace Important Data without Cracking/Resetting the Login Password in Windows 7 OS
and for this we not need any 3rd party Software/ CD/ DVD/ Pen drive/ CMD/ Script/ or any other means of hacking Devices/tool.

only through Windows 7 OS we can Access anybodies Computer Around the world, and user will never get to know that his/her computer has accessed by someone else.
This is purely Microsoft's Negligence towards user's Around the world.

U can assume how much serious is this Issue, if anybody can steal confidential Important data of Company/ Govt data/ or any other Sensitive Personal data of anyone who are using windows 7 OS.

I have Talked through telephone to MS India regarding this Issue and they told me that there is no loophole in their OS and can't be accessed by anyone without having Login Password or User need to Reset login Password with tool/software available.

also i have mailed to MS Technical support Team and also asked about this issue on Windows worldwide official support forum, but not get any meaning full response from them.

I am asking this message to here, coz i want to Spread this issue around the world, so every user can secure their Data and also MS can rectify this issue by releasing an OS Update.

I tried to log into my microsoft account, but it kept coming up with the error code 0xd0000072 and said it wasn;t able to switch from my local account to my microsoft account.
After googling it, I tried different options, such as flushing out the proxy even though I don't run on proxy, I disabled McAfee to make sure it wasn't the firewall, I signed into live and removed all trusted devices, I tried downloading the troubleshooter, which
told me my problem was that I didn't have a Microsoft account - super helpful.
Nothing seems to be working.

A:Automatic switch a local account to a Microsoft account or vice versa

Hi

I installed Windows 8.1 Update 1 Enterprise 64-bit.

I created a local account and I changed the name displayed in the Start screen.

Then, by this account, I performed the procedure to switch to a Microsoft account.

I noticed that when, by this Microsoft account, I perform the procedure to switch back to the local account, the name displayed on the logon screen, it is to be returned to the original one (ie, the one of the directory of the local user profile). How come?

So, how do I make sure that, at the end of these procedures, the account name back to being what had been changed by me?

Thanks

Bye

I am a system administrator in a large enterprise environment and we are doing a rollout of Windows 8.1. In our image capture we somehow captured a setting that is disabling users from setting up a connected account with their domain account. I am relatively sure that it is in my unattend and I can fix it for machines going forward but I really don't want to have to reimage the machines I've already deployed.

When I go to connect an account, the "connect to a Microsoft account" option is grayed out and the "some settings are managed by your administrator" message is displayed at the top. This is NOT a group policy object that is applying. The machines are in a test OU and there is absolutely no policy applied. I have searched all through local policy and even did a search through the registry for "account" (that took forever) but have been unable to find any registry key or local policy that would be causing this issue.

Does anyone have any idea what setting might be causing this?
Any help is greatly appreciated as I have 30+ machines already out in the environment and the user experience is going to be terrible if I have to reimage them all.

A:Unable to connect microsoft account to domain account

This is a copy from a technet forums...I haven't seen this issue myself...but it may point you in the right direction.

There is a policy for this:
It's Administrative Templates\Windows Components\App Runtime > Allow Microsoft Accounts to be optional
In 2012, 2012 R2 there is an option in CompConfig\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options that reads "Accounts: Block Microsoft accounts"
If you don't have 2012 or 2012R2 then you can RSAT from a Windows 8 box and change the settings that way

Hello.

Since I bought this computer, I've had issues. I started by creating a user with my personal email address, but then thought I wanted it for work so I deleted the Microsoft account associated with that email and created another with my work email. However, I've noticed that some of the apps aren't working correctly and needed to use my personal email again. For awhile, Microsoft accounts wouldn't allow deleted accounts from coming back but it appears it's working now.
So, now I have a Microsoft account with my personal email address but the primary user on my PC is still associated with the work Microsoft account. I can't find a way to change this and it's causing problems since that email doesn't exist anymore. Is there any way to change the Microsoft account that's associated with a single user?
The only other thing I could think of would be to create a new user, promote to admin, and swap everything over manually before completely removing the user associated with my old work email. I tried this, but when attempting to log into the new user it says "cannot login, please visit accounts.live.com to fix the issue". However, whenever I go there and log into the new users account, there's no instruction on what to do or any indication that there's something wrong.
So, I need to be able to do one of two things:
1) Switch the Microsoft account associated with the primary user on this PC or,
2) Find out how to log into the new user's account without any i... Read more

I'm curious,

How many use a Microsoft Account to log in or use a local account?

If you use a Microsoft Account on your desktop, do you use the same Microsoft Account on your laptop?
I have upgraded my desktop but have not upgraded my laptop yet. Not sure of the pros and cons of using a Microsoft account vs local account and using the same on both a desktop and laptop.

Thanks

A:Automatic switch a local account to a Microsoft account or

Hello Balubeto,

Sorry, but no.

If I may ask, why do you need to switch your user account on the PC back and forth between being a local and Microsoft account?

A Microsoft account can do everything that a local account can.

If you really need to have or use both accounts, then you might consider have two user accounts on the PC. One your Microsoft account, and the other a local account. This way you could just switch between signing in to your user accounts instead.

Hi,

Apologies in advance if this is not the right area. I was directed here by a Support Engineer in the

Microsoft Community forum. If this is not the right place, please let me know the best place to post this question.

The question presented on domain PCs after clicking 'Settings  > Change PC Settings > Accounts > Connect to a Microsoft account' is:

Which PC settings from your Microsoft account do you want to sync with your domain account?

The options are:

Start Screen
Appearance
Desktop personalization
Apps (list of apps you've installed)
Passwords (apps, websites, and networks)
App Data
Language Preferences
Ease of Access
Other Windows Settings
Web browser (open tabs, history, and favorites)

What I'm looking for is more information about all these options. For example, what is synced with a domain account when the 'App Data' or 'Other Windows Settings' boxes are checked? Those are very vague descriptions, and I'm trying to figure out
what exactly is synced when these options are selected.

Thanks!

I like the security and convenience of having an account with administrative privileges, which I only use for installing and changing critical settings and an account which I use for all other purposes, which does not have administrative privileges.

I would like to abandon Chrome, which allows me to synchronize my bookmarks and all other settings across all users in my Windows 10 boot and even in my logon to Windows 7 in the multi-boot of my desktop computer. Every single change I make in one Chrome browser instantly appears when I open the Chrome browser of any other logon. This is working perfectly across both of my Win 10 users and both of my Win 7 users of my multi-boot desktop.

I would like to be able to switch to MS Edge as my browser and have the same synchronization across both of my Windows 10 logons as I presently have with Chrome but this feature is not available in Edge unless both of my Windows 10 logons (that are on the same installation of Windows 10) are Microsoft User accounts. But Windows 10 won't allow me to have two logons with the same Microsoft account. It has only allowed me to have one of those accounts be a Microsoft account and the other a Local account.

Are any of the following (or anything else you know about) possible in order to get synchronization:
Use the hidden administrator as my second account with administrative privileges and be able to synchronize it with my account without administrative privileges? (Is it automatically a MS account r... Read more

A:Can I have two Microsoft Account Users with the same Microsoft account

I don't think you can have two user accounts on the same computer attached to the same Microsoft account because which one would get logged in at the login screen when you entered the Microsoft account credentials?

What I would do is create a local user account with the administrator privileges and not attach that to a Microsoft account. Then I would create my user account with only standard user privileges and attach that one to my Microsoft account. Whenever administrator privileges are needed to do something, Windows 10 should ask you to just select the account with administrator privileges, enter the password, and then you could complete the action requiring elevated privileges.

Under no circumstances would I use the hidden built in administrator account to do anything unless I had to in safe mode as a last resort.
