Q: EightForums Account Picture

Hi everyone,

Just had a small question, how do you add a picture to your account in EightForums?

Preferred Solution: EightForums Account Picture

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

In control panel, click either the edit avatar or edit profile picture (left-hand menu) and then upload it from your rig. The max size is a 100x100 image. Cheers!

I have tried to find an answer to this but cannot. Lately, I noticed my User Account Picture was not the picture I had selected. In addition, the Background Picture for my Windows 7 Home Premium edition log on screen was changed. This happened after running a program that is for exams at school which reboots your computer into a safe mode where the only program available is a rudimentary word processor.

I contacted the company that makes that software, Examsoft, and they told me how to get my default logon picture for my Windows Logon background back.

To address the User Account picture, I went into Control Panel > User Accounts and attempted to "change picture". This is not an option, however, for my administrator user account. It is an option for my guest account. I tried cloning my account without the bad .dat files, but that didn't work either as the new account I had created, also an administrator account, did not display a "change picture" option in control panel either.

I ran sfc /scannow, and it found no errors.

I am not sure what to do. Has anyone encountered this? Can you please help me?

Attached is a screen shot:

Thank You.

Are you using iExplorer (iE) from the start screen? IMO, doing so is a mess. If that is what you are interested in doing, then someone to help you will turn up.

I run Chrome from the desktop, and that's what I would recommend you do--unless you really like iE. If you like iE, then you can change it to run in desktop mode. Whatever you do, until you know better what you are doing, don't change iE from being the default browser.

If you right click on iE on the start menu, then you can pin the "program" to the desktop taskbar (acutally, it should already be there). Start iE from the taskbar, and use the gear icon to determine where iE runs. You probably want it to run on the desktop from what you say. Use internet options > programs and then the top item dealing with links.

Hello all, this is my first post on EightForums and I am pleased to find such great forum for Windows 8 users! I have been using Windows 8 since December 2012 and I must say that I enjoy it quite a bit. Recently, for self education purposes, I have installed Ubuntu 12.10 to dual boot with Windows 8 UEFI. I ran into a bunch of problems and finally reformatted the drive to start over, but I have a question about the partitions listed on my HDD..

Are these the partitions that come from the HP factory with Windows 8 preinstalled? Here are the same partitions listed in Disk Management, with partition 3 hidden for some reason? Why is this?

So.. The first two partitions listed as 400MB and 260MB cannot be modified at all. If I right click, the only option I get is Help. Then C: and D: are my two primary. I could have sworn that these first two partitions were never there before, although I may be wrong. Also, partition 3 listed in the Command Prompt shot above is not listed in Disk Management. Why is it hidden? Notice also that Recovery (D: is listed twice in Disk Management, is this normal? And does Windows 8 normally create 5 partitions on preinstalled applications? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to figure out if I have done something to cause this or if they are supposed to be this way. Thanks!

A:New to EightForums, Partition Questions!

If on an OEM preinstalled Win8 under UEFI, then you would not have NTSF partitions. Looks like you are installed under legacy BIOS, although some partitions from your OEM install appear to persist (i.e., the first two partitions may be GPT). The four partitions related to an individual's (but not an OEM's UEFI installation are:

Paritition 1 - Recovery Partition 2 - System - The EFI System partition that contains the NTLDR, HAL, Boot.txt, and other files that are needed to boot the system, such as drivers.Partition 3 - MSR - The Microsoft Reserved (MSR) partition that reserves space on each disk drive for subsequent use by operating system software.Partition 4 - Primary - Where Windows is to be installed to.
See snip below for more info on the partitions. In general, see UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 8 with.

Hey guys does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I was browsing and was irritated that some of the letters where not displayed correctly. I don't know if this happens on various other sites but I mainly notice it here.

Any ideas on how to fix it besides using the other browsers? Internet explorer is the image in the middle, Firefox and Chrome are on left and right. If you look at the word suggestions in my image you'll notice that the bottom portion is cut off but not always. I see this a lot on many threads throughout the forum.

I notice the same thing today. I just re-installed the AU build and the picture is not there but it's is with the insider build.

No, they are smaller on the first screen because there is more than one.

Hello, I have a problem with windows vista that I cannot figure out alone. The problem is that when I try to change my user account picture to something else, it always reverts back to the default orange flower picture on log off or restart (it DOES change the login picture, but NOT the start menu or user account pictures). I have tried everything. I fixed it temporarily by copying the my user account picture to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures and renaming it "user", but I want the ability to change it without going to that hassle. I found one "solution" that told me to run regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll but it gave me an error message ("The module "shimgvw.dll" was loaded but the entry point DllUnregisterServer could not be found. Please make sure "shimgvw.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file and try again." or something like that). Can anybody help?

Hi Everyone. I am stuck right now. I dont know exactly what happened but my account picture on Vista randomly changed to an orange flower. I can not change it through control pannel or user settings or anything. If I click on another picture to be used, nothing changes. I saw a thread for this problem here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/f108...re-369825.html

This thread listed takes you to another thread with the "resolved" issue. The steps , however, that this solved thread told me to do didnt work. This is the advice that worked for the others:

"Another MVP had told me how to disable the new Win XP FAX and Picture
Previewer by going Start>Run>regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll
I turned it back on with Start>Run>regsvr32 shimgvw.dll"

The problem is, if I run "regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll" I get a notice on vista saying : "The module "shimgvw.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegister Server was not found. Make sure that shimgvw.dll is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again."

I really am stuck and I dont know what to do to fix this problem. Please help, thanks

I think this is embedded within the Windows coding. I can't find a way for the user to delete the frame. You could, of course, create a "picture" using a plain color to match the screen background color but you would still have the frame. Is it that annoying to you really? My Windows 8.1 machine has only one interactive account - the built-in "administrator" account. It is just an internal file- and media-server without a monitor, which is accessed exclusively through Remote Desktop.

I would like to change the "user picture" associated with that built-in admin account. Trying to do it the "usual" way - through Control Panel -> User Accounts - does not work. Apparently, user picture selection is handled by a Metro app. And Metro apps are not launchable from the built-in admin.

Most likely there are workarounds. I can try using that hack that enables Metro apps under the built-in admin. Or I can add another interactive admin account and try changing the picture of the built-in admin from that other admin. I don't know whether any of these will work, I haven't tried yet.

But is there a more straightforward way to set the user picture for an account? Like copy the picture file to some folder or something like that?

A:How to change the picture for the built-in admin account?

Best practice is to not use the built in Administrator account for general use. Create an admin level account for daily use and leave the built in account for emergencies. If you have only one account and for some reason you cannot log into it you will have no access, no easy way to solve the problem. Having an alternate account makes this much easier.
