[SOLVED] delete button shuts down PC and other key modifications

Q: [SOLVED] delete button shuts down PC and other key modifications

im on win xp sp3, system scanners are cccleaner,nod32 and superanti spyware.

this is what happened.

im browsing though my yahoo mail inbox, saw this spam (subject: unknown)
decided to add the email address to blocked emails. i have to open the email so that i can see the address.
the problem began.

these are my troubleshooting procedures:
1. ran scanners - nothing detected
2. cleaned cookies, history
3. ccleaner registry scan - nothing
4. system restore - still
5. imported a backup reg file

I believe that upon opening the email it modified some of registry keys for the keyboard since i dont see any unrecognized processes in my task manager, at least from the visible list.

it is quite annoying since i use keyboard shortcuts alot like ctrl+arrow keys to navigate on some texts.

also some keys that have been modified is:

insert key = stand bys the PC
pressing - = -0
pressing 1 = `1

any help will be very much appreciated

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: [SOLVED] delete button shuts down PC and other key modifications

Hi people..

as suspected opening the email modified current keyboard mapping.

After hours of digging solutions in the net i found this one:

Restore keyboard mapping - Dev Hardware

reinstallation of the keyboard registry keys for the US layout solved my issue..

my keyboard is running smoothly after the steps given in that thread.

lesson learned: if the spam is in the inbox, move it to spam folder to reduce the risks if you intend to view it.

sorry can't find any edit button on my original post.

I'm tagging this as solved.

Thereís a command button on my spreadsheet that canít be deleted at least through ordinary means. This is what Iíve tried:
1. The straight forward way by right clicking the button, then selecting cut. Some processing takes place, but the button remains.
2. Again the straight forward way by right clicking the button then hitting the delete on the keyboard. The same thing happens.
3. Just for fun, I moved it from is initial location to another location on the same spreadsheet. Now there are two identical buttons that canít be delete.
4. I donít know why, but I did it again. The new button that appears can be deleted, but not the other two.
5. Assigned a different macro to each of the two buttons and each worked properly, but still the buttons canít be deleted.
6. Copied the original to another sheet. It was easily deleted, but still canít delete the first two buttons.
7. My final try was to use the Visual Basic Editor to see if thereís a macros embedded in the sheet itself. No, nothing there.

Canít think of what else to try, except to ask for help.

One of my programs has got key bindings. One of them was made to delete by accident.

Hi guys,

I deactivated some processes in msconfig to improve the startup speed of my computer. I always did some changes, rebooted the computer and looked whether everything is still working. It looked as if everything was working, but then I recognised that there were blue frames around my desktop symbols:

Kostenlos Bilder hochladen | img4web.com

Further I recognised, that Internet Explorer 8 and Microsoft Excel 2003 show massive Display Errors (the main problem is, that images are not displayed properly):

Kostenlos Bilder hochladen | img4web.com

So I decided to re-activate the processes I deactivated before the last re-boot. It didn't change a thing. Then I decided to re-activate all processes, but even this didn't help:

Kostenlos Bilder hochladen | img4web.com

Apart from the changes is msconfig I haven't done any changes in the time when the error first appeared. It seems quite strange to me, that re-activating the processes does not fix the problem.

My operating system is Windows XP Professional SP3.
Unfortunately System recovery was disabled before I did the changes (Yes, I will activate it for future modifications on my system), so I can't simply un-do everything.

I'm really desperate about this problem and really hope, that someone here can help me (otherwise I will re-install Windows, but this seems a bit excessive ;-) ).

Many thanks in advance ! :)

Hi, I think all my problems started when I installed a new McAfee security program three days ago and now I can't seem to get anything to work. My Yahoo mail acount will not delete any unwanted messages although I check the box and click on delete, nothing happens. I also lost all the names in my browser. Nothing appears when I click on it. I have to type each www. name in each time. I tried to send and E-mail to [email protected][/email], but it would not go. Maybe it would be better to uninstall the McAfee and restore my computer back to before I installed it. Please advise.

A:delete button will not delete unwanted messages

Well...I would agree about dumping the McAfee but since you paid money for it you will simply have to start reading the HELP files on how to use and configure it. Your problems are all because McAfee is not configured or over configured for your needs.

The program can be overwhelming to a novice computer user. If you want good anti-virus protection with a firewall, then see this: www.my-etrust.com/microsoft

I have been working on a document for elementary math. I have developed ways to insert math problems, equations and pictures. I may have inadvertently changed something in the program to cause this problem. I know just enough about computers to royally screw things up.

If I highlight a sentence with the intention of deleting it and begin typing. Instead of deleting the highlighted sentence, my new sentence appears and just pushes the original to the right but doesn't remove it. Then, if I hit the keyboard delete, nothing happens at all.

I tried to be all smart and go into the Edit Menu and Tool Bars and check stuff. I don't even know what I might have checked or unchecked. I also did the fix and repair thing but it didn't fix this problem.
I called the tech support where I bought the computer and they told me to call Microsoft. So, I called Microsoft who told me to call the tech support where I bought the computer.

Now, I'm appealing to Bleeping Computer who has always solved my problems in the past.

When I am using my computer, I will occasionally need to delete things, so I simply press the "Delete" button on the file. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to work so well anymore, as about 1/10 times it restarts explorer.exe and all of my explorer windows are gone. It does not display an error message before or after as a popup. If I right click and say delete, it does not restart (but rarely, it will restart explorer.exe if I simply right click). In Event Viewer, each incident comes up as Event 1002, the source as Winlogon, and the type as Information. The Event says:

The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

This problem has not come up until last night, and the only thing I have installed in the last few days was Bioshock (it was previously installed on the system and I did not have this problem, so I assume it has nothing to do with it).

What should I do to fix it? My system specs are on the side.
Thanks for any help!

My Dell XPS 13 9350 (Windows 10) is configured to go to sleep when I close the lid. Instead, since yesterday it forces a shutdown instead - when I reopen the lid it boots up from scratch, applications complain that they were forced to quit with unsaved files, etc.
I assume this is due to some update Dell Update made a couple of days ago, but I don't know what it was.
Naturally I have checked that Power & Sleep Settings are correct (re sleeping when closing the lid). I've also updated drivers from the Dell site and run the Dell online diagnostic test for lid closing.
Any suggestions?

A:Dell XPS 13 shuts down when put to sleep using lid or power button

Some more details:
Uninstalling the video drivers (which helped someone else on this forum with the same problem) didn't fix it.
The problem also occurs if I send the laptop to sleep with the power button, but not if I send it to sleep from the Start menu - seems to work OK.
Also, the problem does not seem to be at the point of sending it to sleep - it acts as if it's going to sleep normally (going off in a couple of seconds) rather than shutting down - but at the point of waking up, when the computer starts up as if it had been shut down.

Case: Coolermaster CM 690 II Advanced
PSU: Corsair HX 650 Professional Series
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit SP1
Yesterday (and then again today) I used the DVD drive (basically for it's firs real usage) to rip a few CDs. I ripped a couple with no issues...but then suddenly - after about the third or 4th rip - I would merely reach down, press the Eject button on the drive and the machine would instantly shutdown. No blue screen, no message, no nothing.

At first I thought it was static or something - just reaching over to the machine and pressing the button Event viewer says nothing. However I did see one obscure message back on Oct 7th that stated this:

"The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort0."

Gotta think that's this DVD drive port. But no other messages at all since then.

Anyone got ANY ideas as to what the heck is going on? It's a SATA drive... Read more

My brand new PC, maybe around 2 weeks old. PC just shuts off randomly like 1 week after. This has happened twice since I've bought it. First time it turn off the monitor and mouse and keyboard none were working at all (the keyboard lights were off), but the pc was still running. The fan turned super loud and I tried pressing the power button in and it wouldn't shut off. So I left it alone for a couple mins and still no change, had to take out the plug. Second time was a couple minutes ago, same thing, monitor off, keyboard off, mouse off, pc still on. But this time no loud fan noise, just the regular amount it makes. I would really enjoy some feedback on this... Could it be a dust issue? I mean its brand new so It shouldn't be a problem.. I think. My question is, I want to do a clean installation, that's mean I want to delete all of the partitions and create new primary partitions for my new window.
I have only one disk partition and in that window 7 is installed.

But the partition is "Simple Volume" and i want to make it a primary partition so i want to delete and make new primary partitions before window 7 installation but i am unable to delete drive as i said above.

Yesterday, my Dell XPS 13 decided that every time I pressed the power button to put it into sleep mode, it would turn off instead. I've gone into the control panel (Windows 10 by the way) and the settings do not reflect this - they're set as the following:
"When I press the power button: On battery=sleep, Plugged in=sleep"
"When I press the sleep button: On battery=sleep, Plugged in=sleep"
"When I close the lid: On battery=Do Nothing, Plugged in=Do Nothing"
Yet pressing the power button (not holding) still completely shuts down the laptop. I don't know what would've caused this, as it didn't receive any updates before this started happening (neither Dell nor Win10).

So I've been having an issue with my computer for a couple days now. First off, my motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-FX58-UD4P, processor is Intel i7 920, 8gb RAM and a Nvidia Geforce GTX 660, with an Antec PSU. I recently went to turn it on, and the computer turns on for about 0.5 seconds before shutting off, it stays off for about 3 seconds and repeats thus until I manually unplug the computer power. But when I hold down the CMOS button on the back of the motherboard, it will boot but no video will be shown. The moment I release the button, it shuts off and repeats the original way until I disconnect the power. I have tried taking all parts off the mobo, slowly adding one at a time and noticed that the 8pin connecter right next to my CPU seems to be the issue. I'm unsure if this is a motherboard issue or a power supply issue. It looks like everything is booting up when the CMOS button is held, all fans, hard disk drive, and graphics card turn on. Does anyone have suggestions or solutions to this problem? I've been searching Google and I have seen people come across similar issues, but their fixes were as simple as get a new Bios battery, which didn't help me. any help is appreciated, thank you!!

Where's my X???

I am so used to XP's Explorer, which had the big red X in the toolbar to quickly delete items. Win7 adds the New Folder button, which is a welcome (and overdue) addition, but it eliminated the Delete button.

Granted, I may have added the delete button in XP, but I guess that's also my point: I can't customize the toolbar at all! Or, if I can, I can't figure out how to do it.

And that's why I'm here.

Surely someone has figured out how to add that Delete button to the toolbar of Explorer?

My computer is acting strangely -- a warning keeps popping up saying unwanted software has been detected in the last scan, even though I haven't run a scan, and it asks if I want to "remove all threats now." Also, internet explorer keeps closing when I try to open it (unless I close a lot of other programs running on the computer), and it occasionally will go to stand by without warning.

For example, Turbo Tax provides a program with their installation disk called Its Deductible. When I click on this program, I do not get the button that allows me to delete it. After scanning the rest of the programs, most of them have the same problem. Only the ones that I have downloaded lately have the remove button, i.e. Microsoft AntiSpyware program. I run Windows XP with SP2. Over a year ago I installed MS Office. Suddenly about 1 month ago the delete button started acting like the insert button. When I use the delete button it inserts what is on the clipboard instead of deleting. Or if there is nothing on the clipboard it goes into overtype mode.

I have gone into Tools, Options, Edit, and unchecked "overtype" mode. If I use the delete button just changes the setting back to overtype.

I don't know if this is a keyboard issue, XP issue, or setting issue.

Can someone please help?

A:delete button acts as insert

Not sure how that could happen, some keyboard issues are language setting ones -- but I think that would affect other keys as well.

Anyway there is a "tweak" utility that you can use to verify the default settings and change them if you want. I've used it to re-arrange inconvenient keys for gaming.

The past two weeks I have been experiencing problems with my Outlook Express 6 in Win 98. It is an old outdated computer. I use it for emails mostly. When download messages, and open the OE the delete button will not work. Buttons are misplaced. I have to shut down and start again the then the delete button will work for a short time, then shut down again.

Hi every one,
Recently I purchased new PC,
After installing windows XP Pro SP3 I found that there is a missing button in Power option properties. The missing button is (When I press the sleep button on my computer), I can find only (When I press the power button on my computer).
My system configuration is as follow
Mother board Gigabyte EP45-UD3R Rev 1.1
My graphic card is ATI Radeon HD 5670
Windows XP SP3
RAM 4Gb Kingston DDRII
CPU Core 2 Quad 2.66 GHz
It worth saying that I can shutdown, hibernate or put my PC into sleep mode, so the functions are working but only the button is missing.
I will appreciated very much if some can advise me how to restore the missing button. Is there some option in BIOS that will enable this button?
I contacted Gigabyte customer support, but they directed me to Microsoft, I also contacted ATI but they directed me to Microsoft or BIOS settings. In my BIOS I can't find any option that may affect this button. Any advise will be appreciated
Best regards

A:[SOLVED] Button of (When I press sleep button) is not available in my Power option pr

Does the case actually have a separate Sleep Button? I suspect it's not even connected, as the motherboard manual doesn't show a connection for a Sleep Button, only a Power Button.
Windows Power Options won't list it, as it doesn't exist.

If you have a Sleep Button on the keyboard, it might not be listed in Power Options either. That would be up to the Driver software to add that option. You may have to use the software that came with the keyboard to configure the sleep button on the keyboard.

Hi everyone, first post here in a long time. This is a great thing yall have going.

Anyways, to get to it: I've got a really frustrating problem....when I've had my computer on for over a couple hours and I try to either right click a file, right click the desktop or delete a file by selecting and pressing the delete key on my keyboard, I get an hourglass and nothing happens. Then when I try to click anywhere on the open window it'll say that window is not responding and Explorer.exe will restart. If I do it again it completely crashes.

What I've tried:
-Using shellexview to figure out if it's an extension that causes it, no dice.
-Did a thorough spyware/malware/virus check.

What I'm about to do:
-Reinstall windows XP
Any help you all could provide would be spectacular. Thanks in advance.
P.S. My specs are XP Professional SP2, AMD Athlon 64 +3000, 2.5 GB ram, MSI motherboard....3 internal HDD's, 1 external HDD.

A:Explorer.exe keeps crashing with right click, delete button

Have you tried a system restore? I don't really know much about that problem but if it is related to any changes you have made to your system (software), a restore could help.

Hello everyone! I have having a problem with the power button in the start menu...and I'm sure it's tied to a problem I'm having when I hit ctrl-alt-delete. First, the power button...I only have three options when I click it: log off, switch user, or lock. I cannot restart and I cannot shut down. Similarly, when I hit a ctrl-alt-delete, the only option that comes up is "switch user"...which means I can't start task manager. I'm guessing this has something to do with user rights and privileges...but I'm the only user and I have administrator rights! I've search all over for a solution and I cannot find one. Anyone have any thoughts, ideas, suggestions? Thanks in advance!
