I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi Pancho5428, Our apologies for the delay--we are really swamped lately. If you still require help, please post a new fresh log so I can see if anything has changed and please describe what is happening now.If you have not done so already, please do the initial cleanup steps in the following instructions before posting your new log: Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis LogPlease read over the instructions there for posting a normal log--what you have posted is a Startup list. Also open HijackThis. If you still have the New Users Quickstart screen enabled, click Open Misc Tools Section. If you just have the regular opening screen, click the Config... button then the Misc Tools button. Now click the Open Uninstall Manager button, then the Save List button. Save the list somewhere convenient like My Documents and then the list will open in Notepad. Copy and Paste that list into your next reply to this post.I do however, think that the problem you have described is an issue with Hewlitt-Packard's software rather than any malware. Please be advised that HijackThis and this forum are intended for malware removal only, not for general diagnosis of every problem you may experience on your computer. If, after you have done the precleaning and there is no indication of a malware problem, you can get better and quicker help by posting in the Windows XP Home and Professional or Hardware forums. If it were me, I would contact HP support. Their software is very complex, even if you just have a printer by them. Several known issues can be found on their web site.

Hi,

I have a few problems, with my windows xp, ill start with instant share devices error 2908, i pops when i start my computer, ive read it a HP problem, but i am unable to uninstall it in add/remove programs, as msg says, cannot unintall until other instllation of same program is finished?????, Please help to get me on track, having a nightmare

A:instant share devices internal error 2908

You need to reboot into safe mode and use the add remove programs to remove the programs that came with your HP digital camera. I had this problem pop up after a repair install of XP Home.

There were 4 on mine and I was able to remove 3 of them this way. The fourth I had to remove after I rebooted back into normal mode. I also had to remove the HP image control from the startup folder and reboot yet again.

Everything was OK after that. Presumably you'll be able to reinstall the programs once everything is working properly. I opted not to.

I googled instant share and it appears it could be related to a HP printer.
If you have a HP printer, could another user tried to set something up..
Google that and if you have a HP printer, read the documentation on the net or the book.

I have been running WindowsXP/Microsoft Office 2002 for nearly twenty months without problem.

Today, when opening individual files in Word/Excel format, the following dialogue boxes are displayed: "Preparing to install" is first displayed, followed by "Please wait whilst Windows configures Microsoft Office XP Professional" with an incremental loading bar L to R followed by "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-Rom which is not available. Install the Microsoft Office XP Professional Disc and click OK". The latter box offers OK/Cancel/Browse. When I click Cancel (because the subject programs are already loaded onto my computer and have been running successfully for twenty months)
I get "Error 1706. Set-up cannot find the required files. Check your connection to the nextwork or CD-Rom Drive. For other potential solutions to this problem see c:\Program Files\etc etc" When I click OK on this latest box the "Please wait whilst Windows configures Microsoft Office XP Professional" reappears and the bar unloads from R to L.

When I attempt to reopen the file in question it often opens normally.

However I feel that this problem could represent an underlying corruption which could develop.

It is essential that I do not lose my existing files.

A minor problem which may or may not be associated with this problem (it developed some time before) is that some of my files have temporary ghost files designated by~$lastletters of fil... Read more

I recently read that there is a MS service pack that causes this to happen. If you have recently applied any patches, one of them may be causing your problem. Go to the MS website and search the knowledgebase. I hope this helps.

Go into safe mode & see if your pc keeps fussing about this trayapp. if it does that is great! run msconfig & see if there is something in startup about this application. if so, uncheck it (or all of them if more than one) & then reboot back into normal mode to see if it fixed the issue. hope this helps!

Hi All,

Am new to this site and posted this message on another thread but have been advised to start a fresh one as my query doesn't really relate to the original poster - sorry!!

Anyway....

Hoping that someone can help me resolve the Error 1706 message I'm getting. I think the children have tried to do something with the PC (all are pre-teen and think they know everything about computers... until it goes wrong!!!) and now every time we boot the PC we get an error message:

"Error 1706 no valid source could be found for product Fax. The windows installer cannot continue".

Any help would be great. We don't have a fax so can only assume the children have "clicked" in error! I'm not the best "techie" around so any explanation rather than a link would be useful.

Thanks (again!).

First thing I'd try is download and run malwarebytes antimalware:

Malwarebytes

If you google you'll see a bunch of these errors with different versions of "searchsettings.exe"

supposedly it's a trojan.

Help! When my pc boots up this message comes up:

Windows installer: PLease wait while windows configures Microsoft Office XP Professional.

Next it comes up and says: The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-Rom or other removable disk that is not available. Please insert the Microsoft Office XP Professional disk and click ok.

But I don't have that disk. Then I click cancel and this message comes up:

C:/program files/microsoft office/office 10/1033/setup.HLP

It also comes up when I try to update windows. What can I do? Do I have to buy the Microsoft Office XP Professional and redownload? Or is there a place to take care of this problem? Please someone help me

Hello, I am very new at trying to fix my pc.....and this forum...
I uninstalled hp 1400 all in one series, and installed a Lexmark. Now every time I turn pc on a box comes up saying windows installer is trying to install aio software, I cancel but it does not go away, error 1706 comes up, I cant even shut my pc down because of it. Is there a simple way to get rid of this.

A:error 1706

DMBUD7 error 1706.
I had the same problem. You will have to go to the control panel and select the administrative tools icon (classic View) and then select services and applications to select and then stop windows installer. This will allow you to work on solving the problem of bad software. HP is notorious for causing this problem. uninstall the HP printer properly (again) and reinstall the Lexmark printer properly (again). Others will probably object to this, but I would search for any uninstalled vestige HP software and delete any that I found by just deleting it from the hard drive. If all of this fails, call HP's 800 support number.
After you get the problem fixed, reverse the process to restart windows installer.

Yesterday i have download Pc Tools Registry Machanic to find and repair some problems on my computer when i did install this, a pop up came up for update manager and when i click cancel it kept comming and if i let it load i get can't find ISUS.msi then it tries to find it at source 1 if i click ok there it says it can't find it and it starts over again, if i click cancel i get the following error:
Error 1706.No valid source found for product Update Manager. The Windows installer can not continue.

I did look around on internet but i'm not sure if it came from this programm but it's possible that it came for this program i also tried windows fix it but it seems not to work for me.

Can anyone help me?

That file is a non-critical (non-core) part of the Windows software and is associated with the Update Manager.

Apparently it can be removed by various agents - to obtain a copy get it here -> http://www.public.asu.edu/~hberaldi/files/ISUS.msi and save it to the location C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield.

Reboot.

That should fix the issue.

Hi,
Recently I downloaded a registry cleaner from Comodo and ever since I have had error 1706 window popping up when I want to open either " My documents" or, " Control panel" or even when inserting a USB. Can anyone help me ? How can I fix it? I have a Toshiba laptop with Vista Home Premium.

A:error 1706

Hi, and welcome to the forums, by now you probably have realised that the program that was going to speed up your computer and make it feel like new again, HAS, in fact stuffed it.

This is one of the main reasons we do not recommend you use reg cleaners, they simple are not needed and as you have experienced can and do create problems. Now tell me you didn't just rush in and did follow their suggestion:-

Quote:

Comodo Registry Cleaner displays results by category to help you decide if an entry should be removed or not. As a safeguard, a reminder lets users create a restore point before removing anything.

If you did, use the restore point.

I wanted to scan something so clicked on HP Solution Centre at the side of the screen, and the following appeared:
Please wait while windows configures solution centre
Gathering required information
then
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'SolutionCenter.msi' in the box below.
then
An installation package for the product SolutionCenter cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'SolutionCenter.msi'.

After all that, I clicked on cancel, the solution centre appeared and I was able to click on scan picture as usual.

Can anyone suggest how I get rid of this, please? The title of this topic looks misleading now. However, originally when I tried clicking on HP Solution Centre, Error 1706 appeared with, something like, no source could be found.

Hello,

I keep getting the following installation attempt/error code.

I have no idea what Destinations is, never had a prog by that name. I've been googling my tail off looking for a solution with no luck.

This appears mostly when I reboot, but occasionally when shutting down other programs. There's no consistency in what actions trigger it so I haven't been able to find any common denominators.

I went to get the MSI cleanup tool, but according to MS it only deals with several different versions of Office. I haven't uninstalled office so that shouldn't be causing the problem.

Recently I did go through and uninstall quite a few old progs and games that have been on my PC forever in an attempt to reclaim some hd space, but I can't remember what all they were for the life of me.

I've cleaned my registry along with the rest of my system using a couple of different maintenance progs.

My system is running great except for this annoyance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm running XP w/SP3

A:[SOLVED] Error 1706

When this happens, Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager, is there any hardware device with a yellow mark? If so, this would be what it is trying to install. If Hardware isn't the problem then run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utilitiy. This was created to cleanup Office Installations, but also works on other programs installed by the Windows Installer.

Can't say specifically what happened that caused this issue to occur. A window keeps popping up that says Error code 1706 No valid source could be found for InstantShare. Windows Installer can not continue. I have tried to download from support.microsoft.com/kb/290301, but that gives me an error 1500 that something else is trying to install and it can't work. When the window pops up, I hit cancel and it comes right back saying windows is configuring InstantShare, then it asks for a disc. I hit cancel and get the error code 1706. Then we repeat it all over again. Any ideas? I don't know what information is needed to correct this issue. I am running windows xp home edition version 2002. Its an Hp Pavilion a404x.

put in your HP printer disk and finish the install. you may need to click on browse and find the correct .msi.

alternatively, download the latest full software package from HP and extract. point to extracted folder to finish install.

alternatively also, uninstall your HP printer software and reinstall it.

Hi and welcome to TSG

Try a System Restore to an earlier date.

Start > All programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
Select a date just prior to your problem starting.
Your data ( word files, photos etc. ) will be OK you will need to reinstall any software or critical updates installed since the chosen date.

This may be a bit long but to accurately state my problem, I need to start at the beginning. My OS is Vista 64 bit and everything was working fine until I installed Norton's Antivirus 2011 on Friday night. First problem was that some of the updates would not install so the instructions for that told me to use Norton's removal tool and then reinstall NAV2011 following the instructions. I did this and finally the updates worked. Then I tried to use Norton's PC Checkup. I had to download a file to run the tool. The file would never download all the way and would hang at 99%. I used the removal tool, removed NAV2011 again and then the file completed its download. I ran the tool and found a couple trojans and NAV2011 had found a few also. These were removed. I ran Panda Scan 2.0 I believe it is and Windows Live OneCare which found different trojans. NAV2011 was not installed while I was running the other programs. Only a few files had these trojans in them, none were in the registry or memory. My son had downloaded the files and I deleted them. I reinstalled NAV2011. I tried to download ITunes 10 and could not download it either. It would hang at 99% too and not download. I decided not to keep NAV2011 on my PC so once again removed it using the Norton's Removal Tool. At this time I am without virus protection as my year's free protection that I got with my new PC was over with. I decided to download what was free from my service provider. It is CA Security Cent... Read more
