I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system
It's worked out well for many of us in the past.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)
Intel chipset drivers are not available for Windows 8 or 8.1 on hp.com (Intel ME drivers are available in their place, some kind of inside joke, I guess). Given HP's recent corporate reorganization, hp.com may never be updated. I think only an HP insider could answer these questions: 1) Did HP modify the Intel chipset drivers as OEMs often do or could I use ones from Intel? 2) Is there any difference between Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 chipset drivers?Read other answers

Hi, I am having problems with my audio on my HP ProBook 4540s, audio is fine with a headset and with normal pc speakers, but when you use a voice calling sistem like skype for example, you cant hear the call through the normal speakers, and when you plug in a headset the voice call is the only thing you can hear, you cant hear any background sounds or music it automatically switches to the laptop's speakers, you can't have a call and have music at the same time, for example... I have tried looking for audio drivers but I cant find any that work. I have also tried contacting skype support and they say that its an audio driver problem.... Thanks.Read other answers

Hi, I've got a secondhand Probook 4540s from a shop near me which sells used laptops. At the time i got it it came with Windows 7 Professional 64bit. Everything was working smoothly, then I started updating the graphics card drivers and other drivers in it (in hopes of improving perfomance) and it was around that time that windows started complaining that this version of windows is not genuine. (I think it was after i updated bios or something. or I used a non microsoft software to download microsoft updates because my microsoft update manager was not working) So to the problem at hand now. I want to format my pc and for that I need windows product key right? I cant find it! It is not in the back of my laptop, not under the battery (The battery is seemed to be replaced) and I did not get any installation media along with the laptop. Any idea how to get my windows product key? or do I even need one to install windows in this laptop (like win8)I dont think the people at the shop can help me on this. (Also, the Probook 4540s does ship with windows installed right?)

He said they were on the mother board and when he tried to remove them they just kept coming back so once again he couldn't do it. He said contact HP and they could do it. Unable to find anybody at HP that can do it. As you can see nobody can do it so I guess it just cannot be done. That is unless some fine person out there has discovered a way to do it. Then I restarted the computer. During the boot process I realized it is not a software issue as the dispaly was acting the same. I feel this is like a hardware issue in the display or the ribbon cable. Please look at this and help me solve the case. Highly appreciate your coordiantion on this. Hello! My ProBook 4540s was working fine until a half hour ago, when I unplugged it to move it and then attempted to plug it back in, and it stopped charging. When plugging in the power cord (that came with the ProBook when I bought it around 18 months ago), the light above the power jack (and no other lights) flashes white 9 times. I've tried following this fix I found on Google: 1. Turn off the notebook2. remove the battery3. remove the charging adapter4. press + hold the power button for 40 seconds5. insert the charging adaptor only6. press the power button and it supposedly continues but I get stuck at this point, because even plugged in, my ProBook won't start up without the battery in also. Is this a know problem/is there a fix for this?

I have a new ProBook 4540s notebook that I shut down over the weekend. I am not sure if I put it into hibernate, sleep, or what as I am still getting use to it. When I tried to turn it on (not plugged in) I got nothing. So I plugged in the power cord and hit the power button again. All it did was the LED above the cord plug blinked about 8 times and nothing else. I let it "charge" overnight and tried again in the morning. Nothing but a blinking LED. I Googled the problem and it said to take the battery out, unplug, and hold the power button down for 20 seconds. I plugged it back in but left the battery out, and still the same thing - flashing LED. HELP! Thanks.

I just finished re-building my computer and performed a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit). I have not had any trouble getting any of the other device driver to install, but my audio does not work. When I mouse over the volume icon in my notification area, it says "No Audio Output Device is installed." I checked Device Manager and there are no missing drivers. The only thing in Device Manager that looks like anything audio related is the "High Definition Audio Controller".
I looked on the Intel support forums for an updated driver and found one that was for Windows XP/Vista. I tried to install it, but it said that the hardware was unsupported by the installation package. I have also tried to run the driver installer in compatibility mode for both XP SP3 and Vista SP1 & SP2, with no results.
I checked around on some other forums as well and saw a recommendation to update the chipset driver, which I have done. All other drivers and the system BIOS were updated to the latest versions. I also checked in BIOS and the audio is enabled. Also, another recommendation that I have tried is to uninstall the "High Definition Audio Controller" and disable audio in BIOS on next boot, then re-enable it after restarting a 2nd time and let Windows find the driver again.
The relevant specs of my PC are as follows:
Motherboard: Intel DG33TL Desktop Board
- From what Intel says, the audio chip is an "IDT 92xx Series"
OS: *Genuine* Windows... Read more
Looks like Intel doesn't provide support (drivers) for Windows 7x64 for that particular board.http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Desktop+Boards&ProductLine=Intel%C2%AE+3+Series+Chipset+Boards&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+Desktop+Board+DG33TLSometimes you can get Vista drivers to work (which you have already tried, apparently), but to be honest, updating your hardware is usually the easier (albeit more costly) route. You could look into just getting a PCI sound card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100008658&IsNodeId=1Read other 5 answers

I understand that your touchpad will freeze.
Do a hard reset.
Turn the computer off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.
This should reset the hardware in the computer.
As you power it back on tap the F2 key. This will load hardware diagnostics.
Run the startup test.
This will test all the hardware in the system and detect any problems.
If the entire test passes, turn off the computer.
As you turn it back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
Press F9 to load defaults.
Press F10 to save and exit.
When the computer boots back up, check to see if everything is working.

My laptop is running Windows 10 64-bit.
For the past few weeks my laptop has been turning off unexpectedly.
I've tried with battery only. With battery and power cable and with battery removed and only power cable.
I am using the machine normally and then screen just goes black and power offs - no restart, no hibernation, no shut down. Just instantaneously off.
It's not overheating. Could it be a fan issue?
I don't know - but it's getting quite irritating as I often have many apps open and many files open on each app and takes me 30 mins to get back to where I left off.
Is this the same problem as the thread you have posted or is it a different one.

Luck_amit001 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! As far as I know, HP only supplies Windows drivers, not Linux. And since those are completely different OSs, you can not use Windows drivers in Linux. Also, for Linux support, since HP does not provide that, you would need to contact the appropriate Linux support form for the Distro that you are running.
