I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've read through the posts and still do not have a clear way to resolve this issue.  I find it interesting that I have to take my computer a part to reset the mini drive? It does not appear that a good fix for most users? What I don't understand is why I cannot I disable this in BIOS? Anyone have a real solution to this? I see no option to make this error go away? Anyone know if this part can be replaced i find no part number? It also looks like this model Laptop also has a fan issue. It's acting up and I want to replace it but its no longer available? Any other options?

Hi, I have been getting this error when I boot the computer and I have to press the escape key for over three months now. I've been doing all kinds of research on here and on google and tech sites. Everyone says that its because the drive in that slot is bad or the connection to it is bad. Well I don't have a drive there. I have also done all kinds of tests, Shot tests long tests and even longer tests and every single test passed with flying colors. I'm so lost on what to do right now. The computer is less than a year old, and I have had so many issues. Its crashed and burned three times in the last two months. I am always able to safe it though but this is something that I just an't seem to find a fix. I got a new T440s with a standard disk hard drive. My coworker gave me a Crucial SSD 512GB drive to swap in its place. I imaged the current drive on to the SSD and inserted it. Upon boot, before the boot sequence I receive the 2102 error. There is nothing in the SSD2 slot, as we didn't buy this option. The theory in my workplace (tech firm) is that I may have accidentally turned power on while swapping the drive while no drive was in the primary slot. How/where in the bios do I keep the machine from looking into this slot to boot? Currently what happens is the error is thrown and I have to hit escape to boot windows. This is a minor inconvenience, there is no loss of functionality, but when powering up on a dock or rebooting, it requires user presence. Thanks for your help.

A:2102: Detection error on SSD2 (M.2)

t440s might have three slots for drives - one sata III 2,5" and two m.2 slots. Usually new laptops with HDD are shipping with cache m.2 SSD which is placed in the 3rd slot. Since error 2102 is msata drive detection related I'd suggest to check out your laptop configuration and remove small SSD since you have primary SSD drive. But at first check out the function of small SSD drive - cache only or/and hibernation partition storage. And disable appropriate features for that drive.

Hi I have a 2nd Gen X1 Yoga (20JES00N00) which is not even a year old and, for the third time now, is giving me an error ("2100 Detection Error on Storage Device (M.2) \\ Press Esc to continue.") when I start it up (and pressing Esc as instructed only prompts a question where to boot from, and then leads to the same error again). First time this happened (in March), Lenovo Hotline Zagreb sent me a new SSD, which I had installed by an expert (turned out it was impossible to do without special tools, because a screw had been overtightened at the factory). Second time (in May), I got a new SSD and mainboard installed. (Needless to say, each time with significant downtime and hassle setting up the system by myself again). Now the error is back a third time. Does anybody know of a solution which really works? This is rather frustrating.

About a month of regular use with my Yoga 3rd Gen. laptop, I started getting an inconsistent error whenever I attempted to power up the device. For about a week or two I attributed this 2100 error to the software side as nothing hardware had changed, or at least to my knowledge. After no avail after windows updates/intel updates, I then switched to the hardware aspect after reading online posts with a similar issue and potential solutions. I unscrewed the back cover with little difficulty and located the M2 drive. My plan was to reseat the drive as I had read online that this could be a quick fix. However, the stubborn M2 drive would not budge, resulting in some unfortunate stripping. I then tried to increase the padding to the drive as I had hoped the issue was stemming from my daily commute and movement the laptop was experiencing. I first using some eletrical tape as a way to decrease the distance between the back cover to the drive. After using the computer that night, this attempt appeared to be successful as I did not run into any error. However, the next day when I powered on the device, I was faced with the familiar black screen 2100 error. Once again, I then tried to increase the artificial padding and to see if I was on the right track. Today, the first day after the weekend, I had to see if I had finally found a solution but was faced with 2100 errors and constant blue screens/crashes after a few minutes of use. The only options that I have left whic... Read more

This is less than 1 week old X1 Extreme Gen2. I had to repair my ideapad 530s three times and wasted so much time on that so I thought let's try "professional" instead of "media" laptop. I reused my Crucial 1TB NVME SSD that was working just fine in ideapad and stuck it in X1. What I'm seeing in X1 are random freezes, parts of the drive not being accessible, whole drive not being accessible and finally 2101 boot errors. What I tried so far: made sure all drivers are up to date, swapping SSDs in the two slots (stock Intel 256GB with Crucial 1TB), using 1TB drive with external USB-C caddy and placing the 1TB drive back into ideapad. SSD works perfectly fine when out of X1 and creates the same errors regardless of where I place it inside the X1. I also tried some third party drive health check utilities, they all said the drive is fine and Lenovo's boot utility/system checker said the same as well. EDIT: I also tried changing Lenovo power saving plan so that disk never goes to sleep if laptop is plugged in. Another thing I also noticed is that every time I will plug in or out either power cable or headphone jack the screen will go black for a second or two, as if I was connecting an external monitor. Not sure what is going on with this machine. I'm trying to backup data right now and I type this on ideapad. Is there anything I can try before I return this laptop? Hi,

The primary HDD on here is an IDE, which comes with the computer, and is not removable as the computer is configured to boot only that HDD (for some reason).

I'm trying to get this computer to read a SATA HDD (160GB). I want it to be a secondary storage device. It's from another computer I have whose motherboard fried, and there is data on it that I need to access for my business. It has Windows XP installed as the OS.

So I hooked it up to the secondary HDD cable, which is of course attached to the main IDE HDD (no other option I think). I booted Windows XP as usual from the main HDD, but the SATA drive isn't showing up in "My Computer," nor is it registering in the Device Manager. The "Secondary Storage Device" slot in the BIOS doesn't show the SATA either.

I went to the BIOS to disable SCSI as recommended by another user on another forum, but there isn't an option for that in my BIOS.

All I need is to get the data off of that SATA HDD and onto the HDD already in the computer.

All help is appreciated.

Thanks,
James

Hi, The topic isn't new but I haven't found the solution yet. Some time ago (about 2 months) my sata ii (3gb/s) seagate momentus strated freezing, but since last 3 years it was working fine. I thought it's broken. I boughts new sata iii wd blue 1 tb. And this one is not working at all with my ultrabay (not original) drive. Only works very olg 80gb seagate 1,5gb/s sata I hdd. If I put seagate momentus (the previous one) it shows the disk but system freeze.  The same with the new one. BIOS recognizes new wd blue but tests keeps houres (its veeery slow). What could be the problem? The adapter is broken in some way or wd blue doesnt fits. The same is with another sata ii hdd (nothging at all) and with sata iii samsung 840 ssd (only once it shows in explorer) - then nothing. System doesnt see modern disks at all and freezes. Wd blue of course works fine plugged into hdd0. Greatings!

Samsung nvme driver cannot be installed because it claims there's no suitable ssd, Samsung magician doesn't recognize the drive either, however, it is properly identified in the device manager. I am a Thinkpad T series Fanboy having owned half a dozen myself and purchased several dozen for family members / friends over the last three decades (each unit lasting 5yrs or more).  My current T570 (just turned 2 yrs old).. could be my last one.  What has happened to the indestructible ThinkPads??!  Sorry, rhetorical question.  My T570 is unfortunately out of warranty and has both the primary SSD failure and the well known Thunderbolt issue.  I can live without the Thunderbolt but cannot do much without a working storage drive.  Upon inspection, the SSD failure is not the SSD itself but the connector on the motherboard which is quite literally sliding freely on the surface of the PCB.  Yup, you read that correctly, all solder joints for the connector pins to the PCB pads have failed and the connector is free floating in the mechanical strain relief rails. Never seen a complete failure like that in all my years designing and working with electronic systems.     This clearly explains why my beloved ThinkPad stopped booting and why the BIOS cannot see the M.2 NVMe SSD.  This also means I cannot swap in a HDD or other form factor SSD (at least that is my belief since they appear to all use the same motherboard connector just with different cables).  SOP would be to replace the motherboard to the tune of $1200 if I could find one, which at the moment is no longer available and wouldn't make muc... Hey all! I picked up a refurb'd X270 from the Lenovo Outlet store for super cheap with a 180GB SATA SSD. A:Problem ejecting USB Mass Storage Device - error

There are a number of different circumstances that prevent an external device from being able to be safely ejected.

First, take a look at these tutorials + 3rd party apps:
Problem Ejecting USB Mass Storage Device – from Microsoft
Try using Process Monitor to find out what process is stopping the drive from being ejected.
Download USB Safely Remove 4.4.2.1087 Free Trial - USB device manager, a must have tool for active USB user - Softpedia

Then, try this method: To eject an external drive or memory stick from Windows Explorer single-click (highlight) Computer or My Computer in the left-hand column Navigation Pane so that all of the drives are displayed in the right-hand column. In the right-hand column, right-click on the drive with the memory stick and select "Safely Eject."
Give it a second or two, and the drive icon with the memory stick should 'disappear' --- allowing you to safely remove the memory stick. If there's any problem with removing it, you'll get an error message displaying the reason.

You can also set it to "Quick Removal" (in Policies), so that you do not have to worry about safe removal, but they will read/write a bit slower.

You can also enable your Group Policy - Open Device Manager, Disk drives, disk in question – Go to Policies, Write Caching Policy and check Enable Write Caching on the Device.

If you get an ERROR MESSAGE not allowing you to eject an external drive or memory stick: In Windows Explorer try removin... Read more

You will have to find out what the device actually is and get the correct driver for it. Does this computer have a driver disk with the system? If so the driver will be on the disk. The only other way is to go to the computer Manufacturer's web site and locate the driver download section and get the driver there.

The drive could be right protected due to 3 reasons.1. Few devices have a physical lock switch which you need to unlock.2. If it was given from a company or school, they might have customized it.3. The USB device has gone bad and needs replacement. There are few third party software available on internet which you could try but I dount that would resolve the issue.

I created a Storage pool with the following setup. Three 3TB drives with parity all in an external enclosure with eSata and USB 2/3 ports. It was connected via USB when created and had production data loaded and tested without any issues.
After a few days of use I decided to see what happened when I tried to access it via the eSata port. No luck, due to a driver on the eSata card issue with Win 8. So I powered all back down and plugged back in via USB. At this point the Storage pool went
into the state as per the screenshot below. Any suggestions to either fix the issue and/or retrieve the data that is in the volume?

Hello, I took delivery of my new ThinkPad X270 three days ago. It is a 20HN model, and it has the 512 GB Intel SSD, with Windows 10 Pro. One of the problems I am having with the machine is that it randomly freezes for a few seconds intermittently. I read on the Microsoft forum that one solution to this was to check of Intel Rapid Space Technology was installed. In my device manager, I noticed that Rapid Storage Technology was missing. Instead, only the Microsoft Storae Spaces Controller and Standard NVM Express Controller are visible. Then there are no IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers in the device manager, either. I downloaded the driver for Intel RST from the Lenovo web site and installed it, but when I rebooted my systel the storage controllers were still the same Microsoft ones, and the Intel RST was still not showing in the Device Manager. I also re-installed the chipset software, but the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers didn't show up either. This was all on a clean install of Windows 10. I already tried using the native troubleshooter app on Windows 10 as well as running an SFC scan, neither of these fixed the problem. Coud someone advise what I should do to install Intel RST?

Fault: USB Mass Storage Devices, (USB Ext Harddrives and Flash Drives) can not be used after latest Windows updates, but only after you power off the PC. (Issue not seen when Shutting down or Restarting after the update. Only after powering off
the Power Supply, then restarting does the issue occur.)
Windows reports a Driver Signing Issue, Code 52.
I am assuming at the moment that there has been a change to driver signing in one of the Win Updates.
KB4055532 or KB4056894 or KB890830 or KB2952664
O/S: Win7 Pro x64
Hardware: New HP Z240 Workstation
The frightening thing is that you don't notice this fault until after powering off (NOT shutting down.).
I didn't pick this up until 20 days after applying the updates.
I was unable to fix this issue. Uninstalling the updates and System restore actions did not fix the issue.

Resolved only by recovering from a image created before the updates and then not installing the updates.
Question 1: Can we identify which update caused the issue? (Without blowing away this production machine until I find the culprit?) One or more of these Updates caused the issue: KB4055532 or KB4056894 or KB890830 or KB2952664
Question 2: How can you recover from this issue, without reinstalling the o/s
Question 3: How could this issue only appear after powering off the Workstation? How is powering down after shutdown, different from shutting down, as far as ... Read more

I keep getting a message saying drivers failed to install correctly and a yellow exclamation mark next to the USB mass storage device (error code 10) when I look in Device Manager...

I've don't really know where to start with any of this but I am thankfully quite good at following instructions so fingers crossed someone can help me out!

It isn't proving to be a problem with USB keys but my printer (Brother MFC-235C) isn't being recognised at all now and was previously just initiating driver installation but obviously then I was getting the failed message...

Any help would be hugely appreciated as a student without access to a printer is a small disaster!

Thanks again

A:Mass Storage Device error code 10. Drivers failing to install.

Hi Laura5790, Welcome to the forums, First have you tried right clicking on the usb mass storage device (with the exclaimation mark) and selecting "update driver" ? As for the printer have you had it working correctly previously?
