Browser cause non page-pool leak

Q: Browser cause non page-pool leak

Like the tittle states is it possible for a browser or browser extension to cause memory leak in the non page-pool.

A couple of of day ago I switch over to Opera and had memory leak in the non page-pool that paralyzed the machine till I rebooted.

Asking cause a few days prior I was messing around with a few of my drivers and I have a new motherboard coming and was thinking of just popping the hard drive on without doing a fresh install of windows, since I have an upgrade version of Windows 8.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

What are you using to show that there is a non-page pool leak? Is this showing in events under administrator tools? Really need more information.

Since it is Opera, I would check their forum out, to see if others are also having this same issue. Opera Forums

I'm running XP SP2, and experiencing a non-paged pool leak of about 150 MBs a day. The pool will fill up after about 42 hours leading to a BSOD (0x000000f4). Poolmon is indicating the tag IRP is allocating ~20 bytes constantly and never freeing it. It's probably a driver, but I can't get any closer than that to finding out which one. I also monitored the leak in safe mode with no networking and it still leaks there. Could anyone perhaps help narrow it down more?

I'm having this EXACT same problem. Started happening about the same time too.

Could it have something to do with a Windows Update? I'd really appreciate any help with this.

I have a serious memory leak in nonpaged pool, which happen to be Irp packets. Here is the whole story.

The system is Win7 Ultimate x64 which I primarily use to host some VirtualBox VMs. Around beginning of May I noticed that the box started to lock up and it was rock solid for almost a year before then. I discovered that the reason for lock ups is a memory leak that east up its 16 GB of memory in a few days. I started digging deeper and figured out that the nonpaged memory grows from the typical 500 MB or so to a few GBs in a couple of days. The poolmon tool pointed to Irp tag as the clear offender.

I thought it could be some update or new driver that got installed, so I restored the system from an earlier image. I went back to images as far back as November, October and September last year, but nothing helped. The system was working fine till about end of April, so I was very surprised that reverting back to the time the system was working OK did not fix the problem.

Anyway, further troubleshooting with driver verifier (log file analysis) did not point to any driver with suspicious amount of allocated memory. So the next step was to force a memory dump with driver verifier running and use !verifier kernel debugger extension to see the memory allocated.

First of all, driver verifier puts a lot of load on the system, so it stops responding after few hours with CPUs pegged at 100%. Also, the system is much slower when driver verifier is running and the memory leak happens ... Read more

A:Serious memory leak in nonpaged pool (Irp tag)

Memory leaks occur for only one reason, and that is flawed & poorly programmed software. You are running some 3rd party (non-Microsoft) software that is not releasing memory after it is done with it. It's the software's fault.

It might be patched in an update, but if not there is nothing you can do other than re-coding & fixing the software.

I am having a non paged pool memory leak.

As far as i'm aware all drivers are up to date.

Hi there,

I'm experiencing some serious memory leaks. At start up the initial RAM usage is around 18%, after leaving it on for about 12hrs with only background programs, the ram usage just rose to over 80%%. Then it started to lag and freeze, the only way to get back to normal is restart. RAMMap shows that Nonpaged pool is using up all my RAM.

After following this guide here Pushing the Limits of Windows: Paged and Nonpaged Pool - Mark's Blog - Site Home - TechNet Blogs, I used poolmon.exe and strings to find out the culprit is FWPKCLNT.SYS

(these pics were taken after 3hrs ontime)

Any idea how to fix this problem? Any help would be most appreciated!!!

Hey guys,

I have no programs running, just chrome with a couple of websites. On my previous pc with windows 7 i've never had the memory use more than 5 GB just for chrome. Also, the paged pool seems to fill up the longer I use my pc. I've read numerous threads with people saying that it is normal for a pc to use all the RAM because otherwise it's useless RAM. But I don't really believe that something like this is normal. In most threads people talked about a memory leak in the non-paged pool.

I find it also very weird that when I look at my processes they just don't add up to the 5 GB in use. Using rammap or process explorer doesn't show annything at all.
Here are my specs:
Lenovo B5400
Windows 8.1 64-bit (6.3, Build 9600)
Intel Core i5-4200M CPU @ 2.50 GHz (4CPU's)
8192MB RAM

Games:
I'm having real problems with League of Legends, I just get too much lag when I play. I have a constant 40 ping so that's not the problem, my fps is 60-70 so that's not really bad. But I just get these random stutters every few seconds. Also when I browse my pc is just acting too slow for it's specs.
I hope someone can help with this problem as I am a noob when it comes to computers. I paid about 700 euros for this laptop and I find it sad that I this stupid problem. I've already disabled superfetch and I really don't want a link to another thread as I've read every single one of them and I'm getting nuts

Thanks

Hello SebaaVH,

You appear to be one of those affected by this Google Chrome bug that only affects "some." Now, since I don't know if they ever fixed it (I don't use Chrome), I would suggest trying a different browser (i.e., Firefox or Opera) to see if that fixes your issue. Now, some have stated they fixed their issue by clearing their browser cache but that would be just a band-aid IMHO:

Massive memory leak, though memory usage does not show for GC in task manager:
https://productforums.google.com/for...lp/xOQqvfK78sM

Regarding your League of Legends issue, I don't play it myself but your issue (or something similar) has come up several times quite recently and, if you do a Google search for that issue, you will find tons of people having issues when playing it online. You might be better off seeking assistance at a gaming forum for that specific issue IMHO.

Good luck.

Hello,

I have been living with some issues for the last 6 months and need help to get the problem figured out. I believe I was infected by a virus of some sort on June 4 2010 that has stuck around despite NIS and Malwarebytes scans. Any help would be appreciated.

Symptoms:

Since the infection, I have not been able to automatically or manually update Windows via the Windows Automatic Update tool or by manually going to the Microsoft Update web page. Each time IE7 opens, I get error number : 0x80072EFF "The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem". I can get onto the internet to any other site. It is just the windows update site that seems blocked.

I have a svchost process that grows with time until it is using 500+MB of my memory and usually ends up pegging the CPU to 99-100%. I have viewed the process using Process Explorer and note that the thread start address that peg the CPU are ntll.dll!RtAllocateHeap+0x18c. If I kill those threads, I am able to work on the computer for a little more time, until the threads peg the system CPU again. But, the memory usage is concerning me as I need to utilize that memory for my work, and I get programs failing because of memory allocation errors, which I attribute to this svchost issue.

I will periodically get redirected to other sites while surfing. This happens sporadically. It may be a day or two betwe... Read more

Hi,
That's not good that you let this issue persist for six months. There's some things you should try here. For one, download DR. Web CureIt. Do a google search for that and it should pop up. It's probably better if you run it in safe mode. post back the log when it finishes. note that this scan will take a long time. Make sure that when presented with options, you select cure and then move incurable. After that, look for Kaspersky's free virus removal tool 2010 and run that. That should find some stuff if anything will. kaspersky has very strong find and removal capabilities. Finally, run an online scan with Eset online scanner. You can find it at eset.com/onlinescan. Post back the three logs in your next reply. Hope this helps.

Good luck,

Oh Yes! Most extensions are compatible with FF 2.*, if not you can always 'bump' your favourite ones.

Once you've updated, if you're still experiencing memory leaks you could try the Leak Monitor extension.

The leak you are experiencing now sounds way over the top. I think there's more to it than just a leak but crack on with the update and that in itself may sort out your problems.

Mozilla has announced that it is planning to finally fix a privacy issue known as browsing history leaking, which has been around since at least 2002. The changes will limit the styling options for visited links and prevent JavaScript from obtaining the computed style of a link.

CSS history sniffing is a type of attack in which a Web page is capable of determining what sites you visited in the past. Theoretically, this is not possible because of a bug in the actual browsers, but rather because of a design flaw in the CSS specification, which calls for different styling of visited links.

I built a computer last week and everything seemed to be going fine until earlier this week, when I had a BSOD while surfing the internet and running [email protected] on my CPU and GPU.

I didn't think much of it until I got another BSOD the next day, maybe while playing DiRT 3. The first two BSOD's gave me the Memory Management error, so I downloaded Memtest86+ and ran 7 passes with no errors.

I then got another BSOD while trying to play the Kerbal Space Program Demo and running [email protected] on both the CPU and GPU. This gave me the "Bad Pool Header" error. I tried several things after this BSOD, including flashing the motherboard BIOS to a newer version and uninstalling and reinstalling my video card drivers. I also ran a GPU memory stress test and a 15 minute Furmark stress test on the GPU, thinking it might be my problem. No issues.

I booted up the computer today thinking that my problems might be solved, and left the computer running all day with [email protected] on full on the CPU and GPU. I started the KSP Demo again and got the Page Fault BSOD within about 30 seconds of opening the game.

I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Thanks for taking the time to read through my issues and a big thanks for any help you can give.

Hi waharvey.

Before doing anything else, uninstall AVG following http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one; as the installed antivirus is failing.

Let us know the results. Will decide about the further steps after seeing it.

Hi,

I started my computer in windows 7(64x) itself when the program and start buttons are about to be clickable, suddenly fel out with BSOD with BAD POOL HEADER: so i started my computer in safe mode and began searching for a solution on the forum. I came across information that it might be because of recent updates.

There were no recently installed programs, only 2 windows updates form 4 and 5 day's ago on 27 and 28 januari. So me thinking to be smart i deleted those two updates in the Control panel-Software.

Now when i start my computer i get the BSOD page fault in nonpage area. Searched for a solution but all of the problems have a error code mine only has a stop code:

Hello,

I am very new to the forums and was browsing around looking at other people with similar problems and thought I would post up my issues and see if anyone can help point me in the right directions. I have a couple of ideas but I am unsure if I am right...

I have attached the ZIP of the SF Diagnostic Tool to this post now

Basically about 3 weeks ago I had some computer issues, I figured it was a good time for a couple of upgrades so I replaced the Motherboard, Processor, Power Supply, and I had my Video Card RMA'd by EVGA (excessive coil whine)

I formatted the hard drive (it was a 300GB partition of a 1.5 TB Raid 0) and reinstalled windows 8 to the computer, everything seemed fine for about a week, I took my computer downstairs to hook it up to a TV so my family could watch some Hulu on the big screen and my computer started getting BSOD every few minutes.

I was unsure as to what was causing it so I reinstalled windows again. After the install I was still getting BSOD... so I went out and bought a SATA 120GB SSD and put it in as the primary Hard Drive and installed windows to that drive instead of onto the Raid partition. Same thing, more BSOD...

At this point I have reinstalled 4 times, I tried allowing Windows to fully update everything and tried turning all updates off and manually installing everything myself. More BSOD both ways... in fact at this point when I try to manually install the NVidia drivers they just Fail during the install and wont finish...

Hey guys,
I've learned quite a bit from these forums now by lurking and finally got my debugging tools working right with the symbols and all.
Anyways, I wanted some second opinions on these dumps.
Here's info on the system:

Code:
-x64 Embedded (App compatibility template) ?
- 3 weeks old, unused hardware, fresh install.
Im guessing it's memory and not driver related because I get these errors:

Code:
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (50)
Invalid system memory was referenced. This cannot be protected by try-except,
it must be protected by a Probe. Typically the address is just plain bad or it
is pointing at freed memory.
Could not read faulting driver name

Code:
BAD_POOL_HEADER (19)
The pool is already corrupt at the time of the current request.
This may or may not be due to the caller.
The internal pool links must be walked to figure out a possible cause of
the problem, and then special pool applied to the suspect tags or the driver
verifier to a suspect driver.
Seems like both of those are related to memory.
I've also got some memory corruption errors too.

Thanks in advance for any input on these. Curious if i'm on the right track.

Any help on this would be appreciated - the PC crashes on boot (during the 'loading windows' screen) if I try and do a normal boot. Safe mode works, but then I get Bad Pool Error if I try and browse to any complex website (simply stuff works, but this one doesn't, for example - I assume it's Javascript or Flash crashing it).

Plus running many applications (including Notepad) leads directly to a Page-fault in non-paged area result.

Things I've tried: full scans with Avast and Malwarebytes, startup recovery console from the disc and all the options there including Startup Repair multiple times and SFC -scannow, error checking the drive with chkdsk and Partition Magic.

I tried driver verifier, but that was when the computer would still boot, it stopped it booting entirely (the earlier dmp files will be from that, the ones from today in safe mode), and it took some fixing to get as far as safe mode, so reluctant to try it again.

I'm at something of a loss, I can't even look at the dmp files myself as trying to run the Windbg install tool crashes the PC, and I don't have a second Windows machine. And I can't do an in-place re-install as that's not allowed from safe mode...

Welcome to SF deanlove .

I'm currently forming a general idea based on the dump files but I need more information.

Unfortunately files are missing, so I'm not getting the full picture.
Please run the SFDT again and let it run its course it can take 15min at times to collect all the data necessary.
There should be eight files generated not including the dumps.

Please upload the MSINFO32 file:

Start → Run → type MSINFO32 then hit Enter.
In MSINFO32 go to, File → Save → name it your user-name.
Once the file is saved right click it and choose Send to → Compressed (zipped) folder.

BSOD happened randomly, i don't know what makes it happened
Sometimes, while I am surfing the internet, BSOD...
Sometimes, while I am playing games like ACR4, BSOD...
I don't know whether it is the problem of my hardware or the crash from my Windows
Thanks in advance

A:BSOD randomly(Page fault in nonpaged area/ Bad Pool Header)

1. Please download this .BAT file to your desktop.

Attachment 300411

2. Right-click on it and Run as Administrator
3. It will create a .zip file on your desktop - upload that in your next reply.

The .BAT file collects the missing information needed to analyse the BSOD properly.

Hi guys

I like to attempt and fix PC issues myself but this one is stumping me?

6 month old laptop - first BSOD i've had for years (my old 7yr old PC never)

BSODs seemingly randomly 3 different indicators seen- special pool error, unequal or equal error, page fault in unpaged area...

Attached are the details in the SF Diag zip

I have run memtest86- no issues
Simple MS debug offered TCPip.sys but driver normal
Have a full belarc profile summary too if required

Other issues lately- unsure if related - wifi dropping out/slow to connect

Hit 2 websites lately that were viral- caught by symantec but noted.

Everything else updated as required
I dont game
Do watch movies, etc

Any help pointers would be appreciated

Thanks

I have been dealing with all sorts of BSOD's for a long time now and dont have the money to just buy another computer so any help would be nice. They happen at random times ie: playing WoW surfing the internet or just while the computer is inactive. Thanks for any input

Welcome
The cause of your BSOD appears to be a driver. Take Verifier test
Driver Verifier
I'd suggest that you first backup your data and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Windows 7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash fo... Read more

I am currently experiencing a problem that is driving me nuts. Whenever I go to a web page on Chrome, and reading it, the browser will suddenly jump (scroll) to the bottom of the page. It does this un-commanded. It does this without me touching either the mouse, nor the laptop surface. The laptop is a Lenovo Y580. It makes it almost impossible to read a webpage without using my mouse to go back to where I was reading. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your assistance.

RANDOM EXECUTION OF 'DEFAULT' BROWSER / OR SENDING CURRENT BROWSER TO 'HOME PAGE'
It's now 2018. I'm using Windows 10 version 1607. This very same issue in the post

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/519342/default-internet-browser-keeps-opening-randomly/

has been plaguing me for several months.
My 'default' browser is set to Microsoft Edge.
If I am running a non-browser app then the Microsoft Edge (ME) will open randomly to its set startup page. It won't go to a bogus URL ... just the main page as configured in my ME settings.
If, on the other hand, I am working with Firefox or Chrome or Opera, that browser will randomly go to the 'home page' as defined in that browser settings.
Every available malware-detection app already mentioned in previous posts here has been run and no issues detected.
Checking and repairing the integrity of my system using DISM and SFC both do nothing to fix the issue.
I'm almost certain this issue is caused by the Windows 10 OS trying to get out on the internet to do something. Whatever this 'something' is it is unsuccessful and it only gets as far as activating the browser 'home page'.
Has anyone got any suggestions as to how to resolve this issue?
TIA
John

Hi,
I've been having a few problems with my browser redirecting to the google home page. I've just noticed this - so far its only happened when I've tried to access Myspace, which is a site I very rarely use, but it only happens when I'm running OpenVPN. On my plain ISP connection the page loads up OK. Not sure if I have a problem, but this certainly is odd beahviour.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Good day all, I hope someone can help me with a consistent BSOD problem I've had today.

Every time my Steam client starts up and attempts to download its latest update, I get a BSOD with a Bad Pool Caller (one time out of about a dozen crashes it was Bad Pool Header instead). I have tried the Steam support, but their guides are focused on the program crashing, not the whole computer and I have had no luck fixing it there.

I downloaded DM Log Collector and attached my report, but I want to point out now that Windows has not produced dmp files for any of these crashes, even though the correct options are checked in the "Startup and Recovery" settings.

Thank you kindly for any help you can offer.

PS - I'm headed to bed, I'll be back tomorrow around 7am EDT.

A:BSOD on Steam Update, Bad Pool Caller or Bad Pool Header, no dmp files

Make sure your dump logging is enabled.

Quote:
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click System.
Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
Check Write an even to the system log, and Automatically restart.
In the Write debugging information list, click Small memory dump (256k).

Hello i would like to know why im crashing so often, literally i crash 4 or 5 times daily at random times, and i keep getting those BSOD's, but all this started when i updated to Win10 (I knew that updating at day 0 was a bad idea z.z )

I will leave the minidumps attached so you can analyze and hopefully tell me what is failing, but i already suspect a driver failing because no win10 support.

A:Getting lots of "Bad Pool Caller" and "Bad Pool Header" since i updated to Win10

Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum):  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/Here's what I got from the minidumps, there may be more info in the other reports that I requested in the above paragraph. From the minidumps, try uninstalling MalwareBytes.  It's mwac.sys driver appears to be the culprit in the memory dumps. Also, Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen both dtsoftbus01.sys and dtscsibus.sys blamed on several occasions). Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration):  New link (15 Aug 2012):  http://www.duplexsecure.com/downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).Alternate link:  http://www.disc-tools.com/download/sptdManual procedure here:  http://daemonpro-help.com/en/problems_and_solutions/registry_and_sptd_problems.htmlAnalysis:The following is for informational purposes only.[font=lucida console]**************************Mon Aug  3 01:43:40.404 2015 (UTC - 4:00)**************************

Worked great for a week and then again started getting " bad pool header and new error "page fault in non paged area. They believe I again corrupted the hard drive. The only software I installed is a program I use for work "Form Max" which other users have been using successfully in Windows 7. I used the DM log and have attached the dump files. Hi, I am having a problem with my newer computer, I just got this rig a few months ago and never had a problem until last Thursday. It Blue Screened on me while I was installing ARC GIS 10.1. From then on it randomly crashes. (I have previously installed ARC GIS 10 and never had a problem.)

I keep things updated (windows and drivers) and I do think windows forced through an update earlier that day. I un installed ARC GIS 10.1 and the windows update, didn't make any difference. I have also ran the Windows Mem test and Auslogic BoostSpeed/ Registry repair. I keep getting "Bad Pool Header" and "Page In Nonpage Area" and I can't seem to find something that triggers it. So far it hasn't crashed in Safe Mode without network access. I tried it once with access and it crashed. Currently have windows checking the drives for errors ( I have 4).

I think I attached the proper dump files. This is my work computer so this is kind of causing a big problem. Thanks in advanced for the help!!

Apparently you need to tell Windows that you want to use the machine as a file server and that it should allocate resources accordingly.  Set the following registry key to ‘1′:

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\LargeSystemCache
and set the following registry key to ‘3′:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\Size
After making these changes and restarting, I haven’t seen this issue arise again

I'm having an issue I just can not understand. When I have two IE browsers open, I sometimes get the "Page Cannot Be Displayed" error on the second brower. When I try to go to the same page as the working browser I get the samel thing. It's like the second browser is not connectted to the internet. After shutting down both browsers several times and even rebooting sometimes, it will eventually work fine. I thought it might be the modem going bad, but if one browser is working, then that can 't be it. Hopefully this made sense ... any ideas? I"m stumpped!!

Since this afternoon after rebooting after an AVG upgrade, my Internet connection has been very slow and sometimes non-existent. I have tried Firefox, Chrome, IE and Safari and best I can tell it's only letting me open one page and then the rest act like they will connect but keeping thinking about it until I close the browser. Google Talk and Skype are connecting quickly and work fine. The 3 other computers connected to my network are all running at normal speeds.

I have XP and can detail out versions of my browsers if necessary.

I just completed an AVG scan and it had several Trojan horses which were deleted but it did not help the problem.

I'm assuming this is a virus but not sure. Help?

thanks!

I have a LAN connection through ATT. and have not been able to connect to the internet with 2 desk top machines that I have , I do not have any problem connecting with a lop top. The only difference is that the desk tops were once on dial-up. Could something be disabled and preventing the page opening? I was on the phone with an att tech for over an hour last night to no avail. We went through a series of command prompts associated with the ip address.
A connection is shown in the systray at the bottom of the screen but the page will not open. The error is: Internet Explorer could not open this page. Any help would be appreaciated

A:IE browser will not open the page

Some persons use the terms "LAN" and "NIC" interchangeably when referrring to a device which allows for connection to the Internet and (also) functioning as part of a network.Sooo...first question is...do you have a home network setup? Are you using a router to connect your computers to this Internet cable connection provided by ATT?Are the connection settings on each of the systems...the same? To see the connection settings, right-click on the connection, select Properties.http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/n...onnections.mspxLouisDialup setups (at any time) have nothing to do with how cable/DSL/broadband setups function. Are you saying that you cannot open any webpage?

I have posted in another thread but apparently my question is way to difficult to answer, so lets try this one.
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4200, Windows XP. Was bout used. Every web browser I download does the same exact thing.
Google Chrome symptoms:
-Started with Application failed to intialize 0000x00005, End Process
-Read forums discovered to put in no sandbox in properties>Target
-Runs fast and perfect then it starts to do the following:
- Cannot display page. Make sure words are spelled correctly
-Have to refresh page about five times before it will even direct me to my destinatiion
-Won't load pages, won't play music.
-IE does the same thing, will not load page. If it does it takes fffffoooooorrrreeeevvvveeerrr!!!!
Checked proxy settings and just the basics that I know to check like firewall and all that. I turned off the firewall, unchecked the box use a proxy server. I deleted and IE started to load a little bit better, but IE sucks completley, so I still have a problem
I tried to restore my computer, didn't fix the internet problem at all.

I then download Opera.
It works perfect, no problems. Then it starts doing the same thing.
Its following symptoms are:
-Internal communication Error (This happens when I am on websites or trying to get logged on to one, or if I try a link on a page it says that error)
-It also does a error that says Cannot connect to remote server.
-Youtube videos are slow and some won't play. If i click on a video or... Read more

Hey anyone with some help will be appreciated. My web page will not go to the asinged web page. It comes up about:blank in the address bar.

Is this some sort of infection or spyware?

A:web browser won't go to home page

I'd say it is some kind of spyware, have you done any spyware checks? (ad aware or spy-bot search and destroy)

When I clicked on my IE shortcut which normally takes me to Google, Google came up, but Spybot S&D immediately issued this info:

Spybot Search & Destroy detected an important registry entry that has been changed
Category: Browser page
Change: value added
Entry: First Home Page
New data: http //www.microsoft.com /isapi /redir.dll?Prd=iePver=5.0Ar=ie5update01=b1

These are exact quotes, except to make it into non-link I added spaces.

Now, I clicked Remember this decision. Googled a bit, and while there are many entries about redir.dll, the details after "?" differ. "ie5update" seems odd to me.

If it's a problem, what do I do?

[XP home SP2, all updates to date, IE6, Zone Alarm Suite 6.067]

Edited moments later: I just clicked on X to close, and a little message came up with a title Resident saying change denied. I think it may have been S&D, didn't look like Zone Alarm alert.
