Andytay70's Current Configuration

Q: Andytay70's Current Configuration

Finally got time to do my config!
I use Macrium Reflect to do weekly backups, Hostman to block ads & Nasties etc, I only download from reputable sites

Preferred Solution: Andytay70's Current Configuration

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Andytay70's Current Configuration

You're safe. Isn't AVAST premier on top of COMODO, MBAE, MBAM real-time a bit overkill, though? CIS + MBAM and Crystal Security/Zemana on-demand is quite a bit of malware prot by itself. Thanks for sharing your config.

I am going to upgrade my current pc configuration, before doing so I thought I should hear soem opinions from other people, so here we go.

My current pc:

Ram: Kingston:2x2gb 833mhz
GPU: GTX 560 ti
Soundcard: None
Storage:1x250gb(windows), 1x200gb, 1x1tb, 1x2tb
Case: Cooler Master 690II

Other possibly related components:
Monitor: SM P2370HD

My budget is 700eur, so here is what I was thinking, while having in mind that I will be using this pc mainly for:
-Video encoding (x264)
-3D modeling
-Running more virtual machines

Any thoughts of upgrading maybe some other part, or using something different?
Any advice is appreciated!

Well, this was my standard setup so far. As I'm planning to upgrade to W10 soon, I want to expand/alter this accordingly. Especially after a company I work for has had a close encounter with Locky Ransomware. I am hoping to learn a lot from more experienced users here.

That's it for now.

Nice setup, however you can consider setting UAC to max and OS updates to "automatic".
My second thought is Admuncher - do you really need it since you have uBlock Origin? Isn't AdMuncher a dead product?

I tried to find the current system configuration on Dell's support web site for the OptiPlex 755 I recently inherited. However, after running this web based application, the only result available was the original system config as it shipped on the date of purchase. Selecting "current configuration" caused the "system detect" app to run, which brings me back to the original config tab.
I accessed dell . com using IE 11 with no addons running. Does anyone know why dell's app will not report the current config?  I am unable to open the box, so please do not suggest that or any solution that does not involve resolving the issue with Dell's support web site.

Thanks in advance,

None of that hardware or software is supported anymore.  What exactly are you looking for? You can in fact get these systems with windows 10 pre installed.
BIOS should be done via DOS or XP.

I just received an E6420 billed as an i7-2720QM, 4 Core CPU.  I'm almost certain that when I viewed the BIOS it also identified as such.
I upgraded the BIOS from A01 to A05, and then form A05 to A24.  Now, the machines current configuration identifies the CPU as an i7-2640M 2 core CPU, but with a -4 appendix, as if the machine knows it has 4 cores.  I would like to know once and for all what I actually have without disassembly.

Hi guys,
I've been fooling around with audio editing lately, and I'm just curious if Audacity's a good addition to a computer that has Sound Forge 10 Audio Studio installed. Will the difference in features between the two take care of different things? Or is it just kind of a repeat? Many thanks.

A:question about adding Audacity to my current configuration

I don't have Sound Forge 10 Audio Studio. (looks like a really cool program). Should have good Sony support. I use Audacity for editing and making mp3's and mp4's it is simple and works. The Audacity support is a forumI think I would use the Sony if I had it.

That's what happens to me two restarts after installing/reinstalling the Forceware drivers for my MSI 7950GX2, every time.

Here's the system in question:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.4GHz (stock) cooled by Big Typhoon
ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus motherboard @ 1066MHz FSB (stock), no active cooling, just heatpipes
Two sticks of pqi TURBO 2GB DDR2-667 4-4-4-12 @ 1T, stock clocks
40GB Seagate Barracuda IV PATA HDD (test installation of OS and a couple games)
MSI NX7950GX2 in the top PCI Express x16 slot.
Thermaltake Purepower RX 600W - 4x +12V rails
My air-cooling setup keeps the CPU at around 28-32C when idle, depending on room temperature.
The system is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64 Standard Edition, with Service Pack 2 freshly installed.

I only have one 7950GX2, and I have *never* been able to get "Multi-GPU configuration" to actually show up under "Manage 3D Settings" in the NVIDIA Control Panel. I've recently flashed to the latest BIOS for my motherboard, and I can always reproduce the error in either PCI Express x16 slot. There are no other cards besides the audio riser card.

I've tried using only one 2GB stick of RAM and then installing the Forceware drivers, and I've tried it with relaxed timing (5-5-5-15) as well.

I've also tried using all three of the 6-pin PCI Express connectors that the power supply offers. Each one works off of a different rail. No differences noticed. Each +12V rail on the ... Read more

OK, simply put I'm sick and tired of other programs running in the background hijacking my current window.

ie: I start a process in one window that may take awhile, switch to something else to work on... when the background process is done, depending on the program, it will often force itself to the front. VERY frustrating when you're working on something else, then some background task decided "No, I'm going to take you out of that form box your typing in because I'M coming to the front".

Is there a setting anywhere that can stop background program from hijacking the current window you're working in?

But for Windows 7 Home Premium you will not have the
Local Security Policy so you may need to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro for that.

This is easier to control with a server like Windows Server 2003 or 2008.

I have an old P3 system that I let my son use for internet browsing, email, etc. It has been rock solid for 6+ years until lately and I think the issue of not booting properly is that the master CD-ROM gave up the ghost. And so I took that out hoping that is all it will take.

Here is my question (and I feel so much like a noob; I did try to google but I got nothing): Where do I place the tab to take it from slave to single configuration? As slave the tab was placed on the far left in the verticle position. Am I correct in that to make it singular I need to place it horizontally on the bottom two prongs center-right?

I hope I am making myself clear. This is an old system and it has been years since setting it up and I don't have my manuals anywhere. I couldn't even access Buslink's website.

Thanks for your help.

A:CD-RW Configuration - from slave to single configuration?

The jumper will fit on the pins, based on what is imprinted or embossed on the drive. It is usually very difficult to see... but if you use a flashlight or other device you can place at different angles, you can see how the jumper choices are stamped into the metal. Most often the center two are Slave, the right is Master, and the left is Cable Select.
I suggest you jumper it as master.
If it is a known brand, you can find a drawing on the website of the optical drive manufacturer.

Can I use my current HDD on a new system without any problems? When I install the new WinXp, will it format the HDD back to normal or will it screw up?

Thanks if you can help me out :grinthumb

EDIT: I'm not worried about keeping any data, just being able to actually use the drive. Just incase you needed to know or not. :knock:

A:Possible to use current HDD in new PC?

So long as you make sure to delete all your partitions and then reformat there shouldn`t be a problem.

The reason you will have to do the above is because your HDD will have all the drivers for your old mobo on it and wont work with your new system because of this.

I don't see any malware in this log, but I see no evidence of an AntiVirus program on your system. This must be resolved. Connecting to the Internet without antivirus protection is a "Welcome" doormat for malware. It can take as little as eight seconds to infect an unprotected computer.

Here are a few very good free Antivirus products which are available:Avast!
Avira PersonalEdition Classic
Select one of these, or another of your choice. Do not install more than one antivirus program because they will conflict with each other. It is imperative that you update your antivirus software at least once a week (even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch new malware that may have come out.

So basically I would love to know why its not working and if there is anyway to fix it without changing my motherboard.

Sounds like a faulty port. Likely the internal pins are shorted/damaged, thus the error. Lucky the whole USB controller didn't fail. If you need additional ports, you could install a USB controller card.

Hello, a few days ago, I purchased computer parts off of amazon. My parts will be here soon, but I forgot one thing..... the CD rom. I know that this isn't a necessary part for a computer in all cases, but I need it for my Windows 7 disc I have. I do not want to buy a new windows so the best way for me would be the CD. The computer I have right now is a Dell Inspiron desktop. So I was wondering if I could simply use the CD rom in this computer for my new one. And if I can, is there anything I need to know before taking it out of the computer? I would also appreciate it if someone could tell me or give me a link to how to install it. I know how to install everything else. If you need to know which parts I am getting I will be glad to tell you. Thank you!

A:Can I use the CD Rom in my current pc for my new pc?

As long as the new computer has a parallel ata interface (the wide flat-band connection) the older cd-rom drives should work. Most operating systems have standard drivers to work with them.

Is it worth waiting till a faster dual core processor comes out (or just get an athlon fx), or will games run fine with the current ones (i'm thinkin battlefield 2 and doom 3). But can anyone tell me why this is happening? Is it a false positive? Is this problem common with my board(ASUS P5N32-E SLI)? Is it safe/advisable to run my system with the error repporting tunned off? Sandrasoft and Everest all report everything fine regarding all my USBs. Did some searching in Google, apparently this can be caused by a missing jumper on the motherboard. You might want to check that first.

Apparently this is a common problem. Below is a link to a general set of solutions to try, including checking the grounding on the case, changing the BIOS, and checking the jumpers (apparently on some of the ASUS motherboards, there is a jumper that allows you to keep USB power flowing even if the system is shut off).

Hi there,

Not sure if you guys can help me or not, but I'm trying to build a circuit for switching 12V, 2A power with TTL logic (+5V, 0V) voltage levels. Right now I'm using a MJ11033 PNP power transistor (rated 120V, 50A) with the collector at +12V, and the emitter connected to my load (bilge pump). For the biasing, I'm using an inverting small gain op-amp (741) setup, with the TTL logic going into the non-inverting input, and at the inverting input I have a 1k resistor to the ground, and 3k resistor going to the emitter of the power transistor. I have a 470 ohm resistor between the output of the 741 and the base of the transistor. For some reason when I put +12V power to the circuit, my pump is running continuously, regardless of the TTL level going into the input. On another note, if I disconnect the base altogether, my load will still run, which makes no sense to me considering there's no way the transistor should be in saturation if no biasing voltage has been applied. I've considered the idea of the transistor being shorted, and have used three brand new ones with the same result. Any ideas?

I see a USB over-current pop up in Windows XP where the User has to manually click on the pop up to reset the USB controller. On the other hand, the controller automatically resets when an over current is detected in WIndows 7 and in Vista. Is there a way to have the same automatic reset facility in XP as well instead of someone having to do this manually.

Please note that this over-current detection by itself is not a problem since we are inducing the situation for a particular test.

SATA 3 is backwards compatible with SATA 2 so no worries. The same applies to SATA cables. Any decent SATA cable will work fine on SATA 3.

After a long time of trial and error I have, I think, revived my HP with ME OS. My daughter had accepted email from an unknown source and gotten a virus the day my other computer poofed (motherboard) on me. I had no anti anythings as the hp had been offline for over 2 years being used for different purposes.

The odd thing was after a few minutes up and running it would tell me zone alarm was shutting my internet usage down. When I put this computer up for internet usage it had an old outdated zone alarm which I went to add remove and had removed. However it left something behind in the registry so I could only connect and stay online for no more than 7 minutes at a time. I didn't know that until after my uncle and son bought me a program called System Suite 6.

All I currently have on this system for security are the system Suite 6 firewall, anti virus, and spam , and its spyware removal.

Doies anyone have links to current tools one should have in place on a HP running ME? I am sure I have all kinds of things I don't need and missing things I should have.

Will be spending time upgrading everything over the next few days.
LOL oh my, love the bunny smilies.

THank in advance,

A:Current Hijack log

There is a newer version of HJT.
Please go to http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3155

Please note: When you download HijackThis put it in its own permanent folder like My Documents for example. DO NOT download to a temp folder or the desktop.

Launch program and click on the SCAN button. After scan click on Save Log . It should save to Notepad.

Click on Edit, then Select All. Then click Edit again then Copy. Then paste log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it shows will be harmless / needed stuff. Wait for an expert to review it and advise you.

Click the X on the current tab only, or just 'wheel click' anywhere the tab you wish to close.

EDIT: Now looking for Budget Gaming Desktop, not worth upgrading current PC.

Budget: $450-$750 USD
I have never bought anything online before.

Original Message
Here are my current specs:

MB: ASUS K8V SE Deluxe

CPU Manufacturer: AuthenticAMD
CPU Family: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ Model 4, Stepping 10
CPU Speed: 2002 MHz

Maximum Memory Capacity: 3072MB
Currently Installed Memory: 1GB DDR PC3200 (512MB x2)
Available Memory Slots: 1
Number of Banks: 3
Dual Channel Support: No

GPU: ATI Radeon 9600 Pro (Originally came with Nvidia GeForce 6800 GS 256MB;defected due to overheating)
GPU Memory: 128 MB
Memory Type: DDR SGRAM / SDRAM
Core Clock in MHz: 392 MHz
Memory Clock in MHz: 203 MHz
HDD: Western Digital 80GB

Now what I want to do is upgrade my GPU, Processer, and memory. What is the best components for my current motherboard? My HD is fine, and I don't see the need to get a larger one since I don't play those games that require like 20GB just to install. Oh and if you need any more info to help me upgrade, please ask me to do so.

A:Want to upgrade my current PC

Your CPU will be a problem, since Socket 754 CPUs are a thing of the past now. Otherwise, for a good upgrade, you would get greater performance with another gig of RAM and a new video card (and PSU, if need be). I'd recommend an HD 3850 or an HD 3650 (whichever fits your budget), and an Antec Earthwatts PSU (any of them will do).

If possible, upgrade the entire system, since all the technology you're currently using is almost obsolete. If it's not, no problem, the upgrades above will give you a significant boost in performance as well.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

Installing W7 64 bit to new ssd. The current hdd will still have the current Win7 OS on it. As long as I have the bios boot set to the ssd can I leave the other win 7 OS on the mechanical drive in case of problems ?

Will this cause any problems ?

A:SSD install - can I keep OS on current HDD ?

It shouldn't cause problems if you have it configured for dual boot but most of the time it is two different OS

Is there a real reason why you need the same Os on another drive

I would think it would be easier to image the drive if it is small enough to fit on the SSD and use the other HD as the back up for more information you don't have to but if you are looking to boost perfomance i would no doubt just start over best results

clean OS clean drive can't beat that with a baseball bat

already have my user profile on an HDD when I setup the first ssd wondering will I need to link the user profile again to the hdd after installing new ssd thanks

A:replacing current ssd

Not if you transfer Win7 via an image. SSD - Install and transfer the Operating System

If you reinstall you'll need to move via the Location tabs again.

However as you should have discovered by now, there are problems with moving the User profile or folders to another HD such as the HD then becomes part of the System and cannot be separated for imaging purposes, some download .exes will give unfixable permissioning errors, etc.

For these and other reasons if you reinstall we now suggest you instead simply rightclick on each user folder on the HD to add it to the related Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums - you'll need to create one for Downloads. Leave the empty C User folder in Library so you can easily see if anything writes there to drag it over to HD folder.

If you're only reimaging and have had no problems with this so far then you can leave it the same.

Is there any way to find my current registered xp key through the cmd when I put my original xp cd in and go to the repair section?

My computer doesn't boot properly and I have posted the issue here:

I was thinking to just format it and get face the consequences later on. But I think I misplaced my activation key. Is there a command that will tell me my key?

A:Find Current XP Key

Any idea why the computer isnt booting?

Not sure of a Console command, I'll check it out.
Can you get into safe mode? If you can get into safe mode, there is a little app I know of that can find your keycode. Are you sure your copy of Windows XP is Genuine? Where did you get it, and how did you misplace the key?

I am not currently having any real problems with my computer but occasionally I do get popups from the same companies, which leads me to believe they might have a little something in my registry. Also, gnucleuslan has been uninstalled and deleted, but Registry info still remains for it, and it is listed under startup command or whatever, so I want that to be gone. I just want to make sure I dont delete anything that I need to run.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Go to this site to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. Also make sure to customize the settings in Adaware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up).

Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it):

I currently have a C2D E6300 and I am going to do a system upgrade. I am curently debating wether to buy a new processor or OC my current one with a new mother board. I have a Dell system right now so I can't OC right now. I am thinking about getting the C2D E6750 Conroe or the E6600 Conroe. Do you think I should use my current C2D processor with a new mobo or get a new one? Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A:get a new processor or OC my current

You won't notice much of a difference with that minor change in processors, I'd suggest sticking with the 6300 until next year and see what things look like then. Once you get rid of the dell, get a decent mobo, ram and video card, you should notice a fairly decent improvement, but the cpu is basically throwing away your money for a slight gain.

Ive read thru the other thread on this but can not find a similar issue as mine.

My ASUS M2N-Sli Deluxe crumped with this error. The problem happened after I plugged in a new portable HD (USB) and was transferring data from another portable HD to this new one. I tore system down and rebuilt but same error occurred. Cleared CMOS..etc.

I purchased a new MOBO thinking I fried the M2N-SLI.
I bought the ASUS M4N72-E. Hooked everything up in the same case and BOOM...Same error message. Only USB device that is plugged in was my Mouse ( Logitech G5.) Error also occured when I disconnect the mouse.

Im stuck here now. Not sure where to go next, i dont want to replace part after part until i find the problem. That would be too expensive. Im thinking bad PSU or dead CPU. Does anyone have any ideas? Should I try a build on bench first?

I understand this is a threaded issue already but it is closed and I could not find where anyone still had the problem after replacing MOBO.

Thanks in advance.

Im working on an older PC for someone and whenever I plug the PC in, regardless of whether or not the power is on, there is a current running through the case and the metal bottom of the keyboard. I've tried running it on a different circuit and I've already swapped out the power supply (250w AT) and it still does this.

Any clues?

I am currently using Bitdefender Sphere 2013 (2 yr activation). I got it for a discounted price a few months ago. I am running windows 7 HP 64-bit. Should I keep BD or get another AV software? Thanks!

A:Should I keep my current AV program?

One of the facts of life in today's computing environment is that no single security program is going to protect you 100% of the time from 100% of the threats being created/released by the thousands daily.
I use a purchased security program plus a copule of free on-demand scanners, which I run weekly, to keep my system as clean as possible.
Lastly, the most important part of any security plan is a fully engaged chair - keyboard interface.
