Stutter, Lag, and general dropping frame rates in games - YOGA 720-15IKB Signature Edition

Q: Stutter, Lag, and general dropping frame rates in games - YOGA 720-15IKB Signature Edition

So whenever I play games (specifically grand theft auto five) I will boot it up and then within minutes it will begin to lose frames, but only for breif yet increasing stretches of time. My frames will drop to like 15-20, there will be the sound of static (as in the alteration of in game noise), input lag will occur (sometimes with times between 5-10 seconds of delay between when I push a button and when my character moves), and then after like a minute it will snap right back out of it, but do it again in just a little bit. CPU: Intel i700-7700HQ CPURAM: 16 GBGPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 I have some pretty good computer stats, so I really see no reason why the game should be doing this. Possible Causes Inability to update Intel Driver (this seems intentional on lenovo's part)The fans. Whenever my CPU Temp goes down, the game starts to lag, which seems strange to me, becuase I can hear the fan switching to low mode whenever it starts to lag. (yes this is right, I know it sounds weird)Something about my Hard Drive not being actually used during the game (its only drawing assets, not actually computing anything, so it enters a sleep mode and hampers my performance)Something about cloud storage eating up comptational power Things I've done to try to fix it I set it on full performance when plugged inI turned off indexingI turned settings way downI tried to update the drivers (It wont let me do intel)I've made sure I'm on NVIDIA as my primary graphics card during the gameI got a program to constantly stimulate the hard drive so it doesnt enter sleep mode (it seemed to work a little bit, but that could have been the placebo effect)I downloaded CAM NZXT to find the source of the problem (this only made my computer lag more and overheat)I gave up and played fallout 4 Interesting things to note This still happens (but far, far less) in games such as Fallout 4, Saints row 4, Overwatch... It happens to a much greater degree in Watch Dogs 2, which has more intense graphics. Fallout 4 arguably has more intense graphics than GTA five, but it hardly happens at all there. But just because it has happened in so many single player games, and not really that much in non graphics-intense multiplayer, I don't think it's a connection issue. I think its something in the computer. This seems to be a big issue among lenovo computers, but I havent found a case exactly like mine yet. A lot of people have brought it up, and it always seems to have a unique solution, or none at all... I honestly have no idea. My skills are limited, but my motivation to fix the problem is high. Please help!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I'm getting horrible frame rates in games (0-2FPS in DOD:S with an oc'd geforce 6800) and i recently had to drop the latencies to 3-5-6-8 to accomidate the errors i was getting in Memtest86. I had a bad stick of ram and i removed it and now i have 2x256MB in dual channel mode.

Can these low latencies cause terrible frame rates in games? I still am getting a few errors on test 5 with my current setup (as opposed to the thousands with the bad piece of ram). should i buy some new RAM or raise the voltage or change some of the timings?

any help would be great.

A:Can high RAM latencies cause bad frame rates in games?

What's the rest of your machine line? CPU, etc?
Having 512MB of ram isn't helping anything but having questionable memory could be causing some problems.
You can get 1GB of good ram for under $80 now.

As per title really.

After my somewhat suprising Crysis experiement earlier, I'm curious to find out the most reliable way of finding out frame rates whilst its playing.

Its basic I know - But prior to joining here in May (I think!) , I'd not touched a PC game in over 15 years... Your all slowly converting me! Pmsl.

Also, what is the minimum playable frame rate? To me the game seems fine, even when everything is blowing up and happening at the same time - But is there like a minimum frame rate set for playability?

Newbie questions!!

A:Calculating frame rates in games questions

hi Leeky,
you can use this utility to see what your running while playing, it hasa benchmark feature as well that will give you min/max/avg and record a log to your desltop. it depends on the type of game really. 30FPS is widely considered playable for semi smooth play. P(ersonally I think its at least 60FPS) for First person shooters 60fps is the goal for smooth, MMo's don't require that to play okay. The biggest issue is the minimum FPS. if it dips below 30 while you get to the 'action' portions, it gets really chunky looking. What was the "Crysis experiement" you were speaking of ?
anyway download FRAPS and you can see where your at.

Hello, I've had my Yoga 900-13ISK2 Signature Edition for a little less than 2 years and up until recently it has been working flawlessly.  After the recent windows 10 1803 update, I started seeing the "phantom touches" or "ghost touches" phenomena on my screen.  It is not very frequent, but it does happen from time to time.  I am not sure if anything triggers the behavior as it normally happens randomly and not related to any particular task.   This is very annoying and disruptive especially because I use this machine for work.  I checked to make sure all my drivers were up-to-date and they all are.  I checked the forum and there were no solutions for my PC there either.  I used the recovery function to do a clean install of windows, thinking that maybe the 1803 patch caused this issue and that seemed to work fine for a while but the phenomena came back.  By the way, the signature edition doesn't come with the factory image partition (major error on Lenovo's part - that should be standard on all devices, no matter what the edition) and now the Novo/Nova (sp?) button doesn't work and the Airplane Mode hot key doesn't work.  For such a premium laptop, it is definitely lacking in areas that are easy to provide to make the customer experience positive. I still have this issue and want to know if anyone else is seeing this problem.  I also tried stopping the HID touchscreen controller and re-starting to see if that h... it's a query from looking at where pc mags seem to get their frame rate's from??

i read a review of an hd 3870 same as the one i use oddly enough that got less than half the avg fps i get while playing games like crysis and supreme commander and the like and they marked it down for this yet a comfortably manage a decent 40-45 fps in crysis on high yet these mags have it at less than 20 in some cases.

i know i am going to regret saying this but are these magzines being payed off or something cause some of the low end nvdia cards were outperforming the 3870 x2 as well according to these loons which i am sure even an nvidia enthusiast will agree is a wee bit silly. considering the x2 performs nearly as well if not better in some cases than even the top nvidia card last i checked at least not including their gx2 thingy

so where do they get thier results from and how as buyers are we supposed to judge what to buy if the magazines are misrepresenting the kit it's a shame.

thanks for reading and if you have any comments please feal free to leave them too i would be interested to know if others are experencing higher frame rates than the so called experts say we should get !!

A:frame rates

Check the settings for what they tested at. Despite their advantages in some other areas, ATI cards are notoriously mediocre at anti-aliasing. Putting AA at 4 is an easy way to kill scores for an ATI card. To make up for it, most of us just use a higher resolution, which resolves most of the issue anyway.

Personally, I'm running a pair of 3870 Toxics in Crossfire right now. I've had no issues and don't put a lot of faith in the magazines. Chipsets make a difference, CPUs make a difference, the way the particular program was written makes a difference, and so on ad inifinitum. I've had friends argue this with me a lot, but I'm inclined to believe that a lot of those "definitive tests" are skewed in nVidia's favor, since my ATI cards can beat theirs in situations that aren't tested in the mags.

Just my two cents worth, though.

I know this has probably been talked about before...but hey...I'm new.

I just got XP Pro, and did a clean install. I was running Win ME previously.

I love XP Pro. It's the best OS I've seen in a long time...but...

When playing games I have noticed a Frame Rate drop from 20 Frames/sec at 1024X768 at 32 bit color when using Win ME, to now 10 Frames/sec at the same resolution (this was noticed in Dungeon Seige with the Frame rate displayed)

I have good Hardware:

AMD XP 1700+
Gigabyte GA-7VTXE+ mobo
512 MB PC2100 DDR Ram
GeForce 2 MX 400 64 MB Ram (Detonator 28.11 drivers)
Soundblaster Audigy MP3
20 GB Hardrive ATA 133

I have a pretty fast system, but not sure why I'm experiencing these problems. I have the same stuff running in the background (Zone alarm Pro 3.0), disabled my Norton Antivirus Auto-Protect.

I seem to have way more stuff running in the background that belongs to XP (How many svchost.exe"s should be running...I have about 3-4)

No idea what to disable though yet. It was my understanding from what I've read and heard etc. That most people have actually gotten increased frame rates when switching to XP. One thing I haven't done though is install DirectX 8.1, I am using whatever version of DirectX came with XP, though as I have run Auto Update numerous times and DirectX didn't come up as an upgrade that I already have it...

Ok. I hope someone can help me with my problem.
I have the following computer:

Dell Dimension 8200
1.7ghz cpu upgrded to 2.8ghz.
256mb or rd ram upgrded to 728mb as it is very expensive.
Nivideo Gforce 2mx upgraded to 6600gt BFG OC.
My agp is 4x.
upgraded the power supply to a monster one from future shop. Way above what I need.

Now with the above specs I was sure that I would be able to get good performance in older games. The game in quesiton is Ultimate Tournament 2004. My problem with game play is that it is choppy(jittery). My frame rates look to be cyclic as they for the most part are good up at around 80 then drop to the red zone 20 then back up. It keeps doing that bouncing form one to the other. I believe this is what is causing my choppy graphics as this game is a fast paced 3d 1st person shooter. When it goes choppy you can't react fast enough to people trying to kill you. I am playing online with a ping of 80 which I believe is good.
My question is how do I make my video card keep the frame rates stable? I am willing to sacrifice high frame rates in order to maintain a constant frame
I seen with a program used to overclock that it gives you the option of changing the frames that the GPU will store. Maybee this is something that I can set to help I don't know...

A:Cyclic frame rates!

OK. I have narrowed down the problem to my modem. When I play ut2004 or any game for that matter with my dsl modem turned off, the frame rates are steady. As soon as I connect to the internet, they become cyclic making it choppy. Any idea as to why this is happening? How to fix it? I don't even have to play online for the frame rates to become cyclic. I tried it on instant action single player mode and it is cyclic. Frame rates keep dropping down into the red zone making it choppy. As soon as I disconnect the modem even during game play it smoothes out to steady frame rates.

The first two things I'd check are your CPU temps and your PSU voltage.

To check your CPU temps (if you don't aleady have some monitoring software) download and run speedfan:

It will also tell you the voltages on your PSU. Please tell us what it is saying for your +3.3v, +5v and +12v rails.

Primarily recognized with my MVP baseball 2005 game, I've been trying to make the game have good performance with my seemingly out-of-date geforce 5500 card. When vertical sync is on, I have to play on absolute crappiest settings. When I turn it off, I can turn up the graphics and it won't be choppy, but the FPS jumps anywhere from 40-80 during normal gameplay and sometimes the game looks like it's fast-forwarding. Is there a way to keep the vertical sync off but to stabilize the framerate?

Hi guyz, Im out on a limb here. I have spent weeks chasing this and its kind of a long story....

My issue is simple, at the moment Im playing Operation Flashpoint. Old... Yes, but still awesome. I have ALL settings off or very low and I still get frame rates between 4 and 24 averaging 15 or so. I have played this since it hit the shelf and I started on a Pentium 2 450 and that ran it better.

System Specs

Abit NF7-S2G and PC Chips M848A (Ya its junk) (tried them both)

AMD Athlon 2100 and 3000+ (tried them both)

Enermax 550W PSU and Echo Star 680W PSU (tried them both)

Geil DDR400 and Kingston DDR400 (tried them both)

SB Audigy SE

2 Maxtor 40 gig HDs

GeForce 6200 GS OC and GeForce 7800 GT OC (tried them both)

Everything listed "first" was original. Second was replaced to try to fix this. BUT nothing does!!!???

A year ago I was running F.E.A.R. with the Abit board and the 7800 GT at max settings and all of a sudden while playing GRAW my performance took a dump.

Here is where things get sticky... When my performance dove the MB started screaming at me when joining a server or high demand graphic situations like explosions. So, I put my old 6200 back in and the screaming stopped but the performance was still down. But I figured it was the older card. I RMAed the 7800 and got a new one but the performance was the same without the noise. So I tried the XP 2100+, NOPE.... tried new... Read more

you have a nice card but the cpu may be bottlenecking your system causing you to have such low framerates. id say upgrade the cpu to a dual core even if its one of the lowest spec ones. also you could check what background applications that you are running becuase they might be taking up system recources. a good way to have settings high is to not use high shadows and AA then you will be able to ramp up the other settings to make it look better.

I've recently purchased a notebook for my first year of University. I bought one that covers all the study needs...and what I thought would cover minimum specs gaming.

Laptop Specs:
OS: Vista 32-Bit
Intel 1.9Ghz Core Duo
nVidia 740 Geforce 256MB

To my surprise...The notebook can not even play games like Half-Life/Counter-Strike (1.6) with a decent frame rate. I get around 20-30 and my older Desktop computer can manage the game much smoother.

Desktop Specs:
Intel Pentium 4 2.80ghz
512mb RAM
Radeon x300 128mb

Now, I'm not asking to play Battlefield 2 on the notebook...It's HALF-LIFE FOR CHRIST-SAKE! I don't understand how a game that was released nearly a DECADE ago cannot run on a laptop that was bought MONTHS ago. My system specs for the laptop isn't high end by any means for gaming: and I understand that. HOWEVER, I KNOW that it isn't high-end in respect to CURRENT GENERATION games...But for a Game that was released nearly a DECADE ago to not run well is inexcusable!

I have no idea how to tweak the game and/or system so that it runs as it should. I'm sending out an SOS to anyone who can tell me what's going on. Please, Help?

Thanks in Advance to the Friends of the Internet...and until I find an answer, I'm gonna mumble under my breath about how completely useless the Vista OS is...

when trying to record an in-game video with Fraps 2.9.6 (latest version as I write this), frame rates dropped from about 60 to about 7 (measured with in-game frame counter).

My hardware: Intel C2D E8500, mobo Gigabyte EP45-DS3, 4 GB RAM OCZ DDR 2 1066 MHz, Sapphire Radeon HD4870 1 GB, Creative X-Fi soundcard, 500 GB S-ATA 2 HD 32 MB Cache, WinXP SP 3 home, Catalyst 8.11 video drivers (latest as I write this).

The game is an OpenGL port of an old 3D shooter I am maintaining (Descent 2). I tried to record at 800x600 windowed with recording frame rate set to 30, full resolution (as provided by the app). I also tried 29.97 and 60 fps.

I had none of these problems with my previous, weaker computer (Athlon X2 4400+, Radeon X1900XT, ASUS mobo, 2 GB RAM, S-ATA 1 HD, same soundcard).

I tried to turn off any background process not required to run my computer (like virus scanner, disk defragmenter, etc.) but that didn't help. I also tried to turn off all features in my program consuming a lot of gfx computing power or bandwidth (shaders, depth buffer reads, stuff like that), but that didn't help either.

The problem gets worse when I increase the screen size I am recording from (with the old system I could even record from 1680x1050 at good framerates).

Turning AA and AF on or off in the driver doesn't help as well.

My HD is defragged, as I am using OO defrag and have it set to defrag all fragmented files in the background (turned off during recording).

Try googling 3:2 pulldown .... You can author the 23.9 fps "as is" but that is about the extent of my knowledge as I have never had a reason to do it. Whether pinnacle is going to allow you to do this another question, my guess is it won't.

BTW, unless you use that method it will look like crap.

I have an All In Wonder Radeon 7500 Video card, which is a relatively powerful video card. However, I have a Compaq Monitor (one of the few remaining pieces of my original system) which is only 15" and doesn't allow for very high refresh rates or resolution. It seems that the best resolution I can get on the desktop or in a game is 1024x768, and when I crank it up that high, I can only get a refresh rate of 65 - only 85 max at 800x600.

I know getting a new monitor will allow me to get better resolutions and refresh rates. How much will this actually affect the performance at the resolution levels I can currently use. I mean, if I could run at 1024x768 at 200hz (the best the card allows at that resolution) would that be a big difference, and would it allow the framerates in games to increase as well?

Thanks for any input you can give.

A:COD5 low frame rates vs cod4

I did noticed that this game carries a heavier requirement that what CoD 4 did but not to the degree you are describing.

I also have a 22" LCD but I let the game dictate the res and I didn't touch it. I didn't like the fact that it left in on 1024 x 728 but the other res I know to use is 1650 x 1080 and I couldn't get that.

Did you also upgraded to the latest video drivers? Don't ask me why but I have noticed that having the latest drivers I can when installing a new game, helps me smooth out the game play so I make it a habit to do so.

For some time now, I have had some issues with FMV's in a few of my games. I have listed SOME of the effected games below (there are others, but these are off the top of my head).

-X-Men 2: Wolverine's Revenge
-Onimusha: Warlords
-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Now when I say 'issues', I'm talkin' around 0.01 fps! You could almost make a coffee in between frames! The games run fine (well, fine for an older card), but it's just the intro and ingame movies that are shockingly slow. You have to repeatedly tap esc. and ret. to try and skip them at the frame shift, which really sucks. Especially with Driv3r because it has movies running behind the menu, so it's pretty much unusable...

Also, all of the 'decent' nvidia tech demo's run pretty average on it too, like 'Ogre', 'Dawn', 'Clear Sailing' and 'Time Machine'. Any thoughts...?

Just another thing: I just got Juiced, and I am getting really bad frame rate spikes. I've been tweaking the options all night but I'm still getting sudden bursts of frame rate increases and decreases all over the place! Like hooning down at 60fps, then slides into about 30fps, then quickly bursts up to 80fps for a bit... Read more

Make sure the cards fan is working right and free of dust. Usually when a video card runs hot it will slow down game play. Is it set to run at 8x AGP? Also go into the BIOS and increase the AGP aperature to 256mb. If the card is a regular 5700 and not an LE version you should be getting decent performance. If it is an LE some of them have 64bit memory which cripples the card for game playing and the rest have very low clock and memory speeds.

I stutter to play games. In game stutter solve?
I stutter to play games and I don?t know why.

Soon after BF2 dreaded criminal release of patch 1.3 an open whole for hackers with mass server crashes and CTDs for players I developed a stutter. No not me, my computer. I will play for a while than I get a sound repetition/ slur sound break followed by a sound spike again and a quiet period and than I either return to normal game play or I get booted from server.

At first I thought it was my piece of refuse Audigy 2 ZS Gamer card. So I uninstalled it used my native A8N-SLI MB native sound (fresh install XP install) and I got no noticeable change. I loaded up with no sound at all and I got it too. I loaded Axis & Allies (crappy Atari version not the good Hasbro one) and I got the same stutter. Same with CivRome. I did a NLite minimal XP Install and got same. NLite Max Install XP and x64 install got same stutter.

Stutter only happens in games hmmm I?ll try super pi now. Okay it?s on and CPU is usage is reading 100% and I?m seeing nothing different. Let it run 30 mins no problem.

I 36 hour memtested my memory OCZ platinum rev2 2-2-2-5 previous with no problems once you increase the v to 2.75-2.8 range. I?m running them at 2.5-3-3-(?) can?t recall last number right now. Anyway I?ll rerun memtest all night tonight. But I didn?t have a problem previously.

So it seems like it?s not
1) Sound Card
2) CPU
3) Memory
4) The BF2 1.3 patch as much a... Read more

A:I stutter to play games. In game stutter solve?

Well that's a mouthfull!

I've seen BF2 stutter sometimes when the Internet connection is going slow. My system used to do that on my old video card, would stutter and then kick me out of the server. But my new video card solved that. And your video card is better then mine (X850 XT PE) I think.

Since this is a fresh reload you said, did you make sure to load all the latest drivers for the video and chipset? I assume you did.
Do the games play better if you lower all the quality settings?

The fact that the CPU is running 100% is somewhat alarming. It probably will run like that when the game is going, but the point is, if you run out of those resources while playing, that can cause the sound and video to stutter. It's not the sound or video cards fault, it's just that there isn't enough resources to compute everything (mostly CPU).

Can you give a rundown of your complete specs in a nice clean manor?

Otherwise it's hard to say, yes it can very well be a malfunctioning card or board of some kind.

Hi, I am experiencing a rather...difficult problem. I bought a new video card to replace my old Nvidia GeForce 6150 that came with my Desktop. The replacement? A PNY Nvidia 9600GT. Now, I expected to get my constant 60 fps throughout the game. But, as disappointing as it is, I am getting 55 in open zones and about 10-20 in cities. Which, is definitely not too good.
I've seen mixed reactions from people running this card on WoW. Some are getting 100 fps. Others getting my same problem, some worse. I have checked to make sure my card is connected correctly, and it is.

AMD phenom 9500 Quad Core 2.20 GHZ
3g RAM
Vista 32-bit.

Please, help me out here. I am stuck as to why I am not getting what I paid 200 dollars for.

A:Low frame rates in WoW, while runnning a Nvidia 9600 GT?

I suspect that you still have your old graphics drivers on your computer. You should make sure that you have uninstalled all old graphics drivers and replace them with new graphics drivers that are developed specifically for your new graphics card. You should remove your old NVIDIA drivers by uninstalling them from the 'Add/Remove Programs' utility. Then you should check your 'Device Manager' to make sure that your 'Display Adapters' drivers have been uninstalled. Don't forget to restart your computer right after uninstalling the old drivers!

Go to NVIDIA.com, go to the 'Download Drivers' section, and fill in information about your computer to get the correct graphics driver. Make sure that you fill in the information fields correctly, or you might get the wrong graphics driver! Remember to restart your computer right after installing your new graphics drivers!

Good luck!

Hi Everyone

This is my first post so ... here goes

I have a radeon 9700 pro ... I play counter strike and want to get my frame rate above 60fps.

I have made sure that the default setting in HL/CS is fps_max 100 but the card will not exceed 60 when monitored (net_graph 3).

The desktop settings I use are 1024 by 768, 16bit at 100fps.

I used to have an nvidia card and I remember I had to use a geforce tweaking utility to adjust the overall frame rates for each resolution / desktop bit depth.

Does such a program (or method) exist for the ATI Radeon ?

Thanks in advance

A:Adjusting Frame Rates for Radeon 9700 pro

Welcome to TechSpot

Make sure that in the settings have TruForm turned off. For some reason this causes a large performance hit. I found that shooting windows in CS with TruForm switched off really killed my frames per second. Also the monitor that your using might only be able to display at 60Hz and you probably have Vsync switched on which means the frames output by the graphics card are synchronised with the monitor refresh rate. I believe for XP you might need to look for a "refresh rate" fix, otherwise just turn off Vsync in the dirver settings for the 9700 Pro.

Hope this helps

Had a question about my frame rates. I recently built a computer with the intention of building a decent gaming rig. Did a decent amount of research and had a friend to fill in the blanks. I did not initially buy a video card, but later upgraded because I was not content with the quality of the games, videos, etc. I would like to know if my processor may be gimping my system.

These are my specs:

ASUS M4A78LT-M AM3 AMD 760G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
WD5000AAKX 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
500W ATX12V v2.3 Power Supply
4GB (2 x 2GB) Desktop Memory
Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Card

I would appreciate any input.

Thank you.

Hi guys i just want to ask some of you people that are good in computers.
I got a dell Xps 15 like a week ago.
When i tryed downloading WoW on it the downloading rates would go to about 900kbs and then slowly drop it less then one, and the cycle kept going.
Also im trying to download starcraft and im not getting the same 900kbs that i got on WoW,im only getting 200-300kbs.

Is this because of my computer or my internet ?
Sorry that im a computer noob
Thanks in advance

I'm having this crackling sound which also causes mini frame stutters when it happens. Happens several times in a minute.

*This happens when watching movie on different softwares, playing different games, talking in mumble so I don't think it's software specific (not directly at least).

*I have Logitech G35 and integrated Realtek, crackling happens on both of them so I don't think it's driver or speakers.

*Both drivers are updated. I've tried disabling audio enhancements, using g35 on stereo.

*When the crackling happens on mumble for example, the frame stutter also happens on game software.

Can you tell what's broken?

A:Can you diagnose this crackling sound/frame stutter?

OK, no one [other than you] has any idea what we are working on. Post ALL of your exact system specs; ie exact mb installed, exact cpu installed, exact ram installed, exact video card installed, exact pw supply installed, etc, etc. Note do not post "500W pw supply" post the exact make and model. If possible, post links to your parts.

Im getting bad performance in couple of games since my laptops seems to be fond of running games on the integrated (intel Hd Graphics 630) graphic card instead of using the dedicated graphic card (GTX 1050) I'm wondering whether or not it is possible to disable integrated (intel hd) graphics completely and only use the dedicated graphcis card for gaming Using rivatuner I monitored couple of games, and noticed that my laptop is not using the full potential of my dedicated graphics card. Picture related I have tried : a) Setting the preferred graphic processor to "high performance NVIDIA processor" in Nvidia controll panel, (I also set the power management mode to  "Prefer maxmimum performance") b) disabling intel Hd Graphics 630 from Device Manager. Unfortunately that seems to disable GTX 1050 too, since im unable to open the  Nvidia control panel, an error message saying "NVIDIA Display settings are not available. you are not currently using a display attached to an Nvidia gpu". So im forced to keep hd graphics enabled. Also the games won't run at all.

I am a very frustrated and angry customer at the moment as i keep running into Road Block and unacceptable answers.  This issue is enough to cause me to never buy another Lenovo laptop or any laptop at Best Buy!I bought my computer in July and in September i noticed a key had popped off-  the "< ," key next to the M key.  I have used the key board only when i was setting up-  now at my office and at customers i set it in downward dog mode ;-) and use a blue tooth key board.    So it is not from use that it broke.   I took the laptop into BEST BUY and was told that the key was missing a metal part on the back so they could not fix it onsite-  i would have to send it in and be without my laptop for a week to 10 days - unacceptable -  this was a month or more ago. I searched on the LENOVO website and could not find a way to purchase a single or the entire set of Keys!  I am self employed as a software consultant.   My life is pretty busy and i finally decided today to bite the bullet and ask for a call from Lenovo support.  Again i am told the only way to fix this is to send my laptop in for a repair.  I asked to just be able to buy a KEY - i am told that well they do not sell individual keys - they would replace the entire keyboard!  So sell me the keyboard and or send me one an i will take into best buy to have them replace it while i wait.  They cannot do that.   I live... I've spent the last two hours browsing endless internet forums trying to find a solution to increase my frame rate. Although I'm not foreign to computers etc, I am out of my depth when dealing with graphics! So I decided to get some individual advice in the hands of experts...

Basically, I play Pro Evolution Soccer 6 loads and I'm trying to get it to run at the optimum frame rate so it displays better on the TV (I output my laptop via s-video to the TV for playing).

I noticed the Frapps program being mentioned so I downloaded that, to find that my FPS was 35-40 in the game. I think my computer can do 60HZ, so surely the FPS can be boosted to around 60 FPS? But I'd be happy even if the FPS was nearer 50fps.

I've seen Vsync being mentioned in various forums, but I don't know how to disable that or even if it is beneficial. The thing is I'm a bit confused with the drivers stuff, and all I can find is in "Display" which is "Plug and Play Monitor on Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family".

Also briefly read that increasing virtual memory will affect FPS, so set that at 1000mb now.

I'm not sure what info you need, or even how to obtain it, but I guess I can give the System Properties stuff:

Genuine Intel(R) CPU
T2050 @ 1.60 GHz
1.60 GHz, 504 MB of RAM
Physical Address Extension

Any help is VERY greatly appreciated.

A:Increase frame rate for gaming/drivers/general confusion!

Your monitor doing 60Hz is just the refresh rate. When playing games with v-sync enables your framerate will not go higher than your refresh rate which is 60Hz (hence won't go higher than 60fps). If you disable v-sync (won't necessarily increase performance if you have low framerates already) than your framerate can go higher than the refresh rate (virtually unlimited) for even smoother gameplay BUT you get what is called horizontal tearing which can kinda suck in a lot of games.

To reduce tearing you can enable triple buffering. All it does is render both second the third frames while the first is being displayed. but some issues can come from this such us the third frame might be displayed over the second. Although this is rare (at least for me)

In your case your running an old Intel with a rather crappy graphics card. You can try overclocking your CPU but I don't think it will help much. You PC (no offence) is rather crap when it comes to performance. The only real viable chance of geting higher framerates is to buy a new PC, or at least get a more powerful graphics card. But your CPU being at 1.6GHz will be a bottle neck for it.

Your pretty much screwed. Buy a new PC, make sure its custom built as custom builds are the best (You know what your getting).

EDIT: Sorry if spelling is off. I got up REAL early to get the papers from the garage and am really tired.

After i completely dignosed the issue it seems to me that there are problems in BIOS, Drivers and thermal management as when I start playing a game (GTA 5, Battlefiels 1) i runs smooth for 5 minutes but after that i starts lagging and freezing. I have also run some benchmarks but results are similarly as there is the issue of cpu thermal throttling. And audio distortion is due to unstable and poor compatibility drives. In dell forms i read people saying that all this is caused due power management issues which i have also noticed as when CPU is idle is consumes around 20 watt at 50°C but when put under load it once reaches 50 watt of peak usage at 100°C but with in few seconds it thermal throttles and used only 15 watt at 80°C which is even less than idle speed which causes many problems and freezing also all with in few minutes of gaming or proper use. Many uses are facing same problems as i have read on reddit and dell community form but not all the systems are affected as the review units that some YouTube channels and Websites like Laptop Mag reviewed did not exibit such problems or otherwise the reviews are fake. I don't know why dell is not solving the issues and sending me the same problematic Laptop again for the third time.!!!!!
