New palmrest for T440p

Q: New palmrest for T440p

Hi,I recently purchased a used T440p, more specifically a model 20AW-S0RK03. Unfortuntatly it arrived damaged and, naive as I was, I accepted a small partial refund and figured it wouldn't be too much on an issue to replace it...However, it seems that this part is rather difficult to obtain and furthermore I now realize that the palmrest for the T440p exists with several different internal designs (number/placement of screw holes etc.).If possible I would much prefer not having to disassemble it twice - once to figure out the part number and once again when the part arrives - so if anyone can inform me what part number I need for my specific model (20AW-S0RK03), then that would be a huge help.Any tips on where to buy (if allowed) will also be greatly appreciated. Note that I'm a student, so both cost and delivery time (I'm in Europe) needs to be considered. Thanks in advance. I really hope that someone can assist me with this tiresome situation.Rasmus

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hiya peeps,

Not sure where to post this so apologies if wrong

I have an Asus F3JC, which has a cracked palmrest/faceplate, (webcam model).
I have checked on ebay, but this model does not appear at the moment.
Does anyone know of a similar model with the same palmrest/faceplate?
Cheers in advance

Hello, I have just received my new Thinkpad X1 Exterme Gen 2. Everything look good except that it has this big gap between the lid and palmrest. I have attached a pic showing this gap. I suspect the base is deformed because of QC or execssive pressure during transportation. Does anyone has the same issue? Can I return it or get a replacement unit?

Just got a P72. Unfortunately, the right side of the  palmrest gets quite warm only a few minutes into use. It's worse when charging, but it's always an issue. I've turned off the NFC chip which was giving off quite a bit of heat (weirdly) but it's still annoyingly warm. Coming from a W700 whose palmrest surfaces were always cool this is a disappointment. Can others please check how warm their P72 palmrest is? Anyone else bothered by this? Thanks!

My P50 is less than two months old and it has developed two cracks in the palmrest.  They both run almost the entire depth of the palmrest.  I use the laptop 80% of the time in a docking station, so the amount of time that the palm rest has been in contact with anything is minimal.  This is disappointing from a new laptop. P50Crack01.jpgP50Crack02.jpgP50Crack03.jpg I'll contact Lenovo and see what they can do for me.  I REALLY don't want to have to send the whole thing back to Lenovo since I am self employed and my whole business is basically on it. How to I contact Lenovo about a crack in the case?  I can only find contacts for "Place an Order", "Check on an Order", and "Return".  I don't want to do any of those.

Call the service support line. Give them the model number, serial number. The keyboard bezel is a CRU (customer replaceable unit). The is a service video that will guide you through the removal and install steps. Should take you about 10 minutes tops to complete.

Hi all  Foolishly did not have my Yoga 900 in Stand or Tent mode as I was watching video on it and eating lunch today, and got some sauce from my sandwich on the palmrest. Wiped it off, the computer has survived - however there's a minor stain there now. Oops. Just wondering what reccomendations there are for cleaning it? I'm tempted to use the wipes that I use on my glasses\screens that have a small amount of isopropyl alcohol on them but not sure if this will affect the rubberized coating on the palmrest. I have looked in the users manual and the HMM, but neither make any reference to cleaning the machine, an odd exclusion. Thanks!

Ok so stripped down laptop and put it back together. Its a Toshiba Equium. But mouse touch-pad not working. So thinking I had not pushed in the ribbon properly I took it apart again enough to get at the ribbon. Re inserted it no good. Tried this several times still no good. Thinking I had somehow damaged the ribbon when taking it apart I ordered a replacement palmrest and touch-pad. Fitted it still no good. All I can think of now is that the ribbon os not going in properly however I have no way to tell. Any tips?

The frame of the Yoga 910 has one of the most asinine designs, from a user standpoint, that I've ever seen.  The top edge of the palmrest is sharp and cuts into my palms.  But no longer!  I've machined away the top knife edge.  (Unfortunately the right edge was cut a bit more than the left and bottom edge.)Lenovo apparently figured out what an idiotic idea it was and changed the design for the Yoga 920.In the photos below please disregard the succulent particle; it was there so that my camera focussed correctly.

The palmrest of my W510 has some cracks and the trackpad and it's mouse buttons seem defective, so I want to replace the palmrest, including the trackpad.Currently I have a palmrest with the fingerprint reader. Some questions: - the T510 and W510 use the same palmrests, is that right?- can I replace my palmrest with a model without fingerprint reader?- what palmrest of other Thinkpad models are also compatible? T4xx, T520, W520, what ever?- what do I have to take care of to get a compatible palmrest, is there some kind of compatibility matrix? For example, does it matter if the replacement has a color calibration scanner or not? (mine has not) Thank you very much for your help! Roland

And when i open and close the lid, that part of the laptop pretty much pops out. I don't want that the crack to get bigger, so i was thinking to replace the whole palmrest. Is that what should i do or there is any other fix? And if not, where i should find a palmrest to buy? Sorry for the bad image quality

Work purchased a T410s for $1700 in August for me. LCD vertical band issue within 3 months (4 days of downtime)Shift key doesn't work well within 6 months (40 days of annoyance)Palmrest cracking at 7th month. (?)I'll be lucky if this POS works after a year. This is my last Thinkpad ever.  My T43 is in better condition to this day than paperweight.  The T43 battery wear is only at 80%.  The battery wear on this T410s is at 87% and I stop charging at 80%, start charging below 50%, never drain it below 20%. I call tech support and asked for a new palm rest so I can just replace them myself and they told me I had to send it in to see if it's even "covered" under warranty.  I need this for WORK and hence it would completely negate the purpose of the purchase of a business laptop.  I was going to purchase two more for two new employees that we hired but these policies and issues completely reversed all feelings I have about Thinkpads.   Lenovo, you can only milk the brand for so long before you lose loyal customers like me.

Hello. I'd like to draw attention to the design/usability issue of the recent Lenovo Thinkads (mostly X-series). Right now I use Lenovo X220, which is, imo, the best trade-off between up-to-dateness and usability. The list of my concerns about recent models is quite long , and I do undestand, that my vision is just my vision, and that Lenovo, probably, has some data about sales, and thus has the reasons to introduce changes to the design. I just want to give Lenovo my feedback, and hope that it'll be considered. Thinkpads up to X230 had this chamfer at the edge of the palmrest. This chamfer prevents palmrest pressing against your wrists, reducing fatigability and helping those with RSI. The effect is very well noticeable if you spend a lot of time with your hands on keyboard. Especially, if you use laptop in awkward uncomfortable positions where your elbows are lowered below the level of the laptop (that is the case for X-series, because those have high mobility and are often used on the go). Compare this to X270I haven't used X270 itself, but I regularly use another 12" dell laptop with the edged palmrest, like on X270, and, actually, my experience with it made me to start this topic. If you, fellow Lenovo community members, have any ideas, on how to get to Lenovo with this feedback, let me know please. I'm willing to invest some reasonable amount of my time into that. Regards

Hi there everybody,I recently bought an x200, and of course i had to open it, clean it, and i also adjusted some light keyboard flex with tape on the keyboard back, noticing that under the palm rest, there is a foil made of aluminum, and one made of copper. Both of these get bent over the palm rest, i guess to touch the keyboard, which is not something i could be sure it is happening, but after i adjusted the flex, it seems the palm rest in the left side, the one with the copper, on top of the pcmcia, is getting hotter, so maybe the keyboard wasn't touching the copper before. I don't know. So, is that there for some heat dissipation gathered from the keyboard, or is it a faraday cage sort of thing, to shield something, but then why is it supposed to touch the keyboard? Or isn?t it?Also, the keyboard cannot take too much heat, having just the margins and a few other small spots uncovered on the underside, the rest is covered in some plastic. And the supposed connection with the copper foil is about 1 cm wide, going to about 3mm wide after that for a length of 1cm or so. It couldn?t help that much, but yet, the palm rest appears to be hotter. The keys above that area are also a bit warm, so the keyboard must have some kind of heat dissipation function also.Maybe it?s just a bit of extra cooling, although the heatsink and fan appear to be doing a good job with that.I was hoping somebody more knowledgeable here can shed some light over this.Thank you.

Hi, I'm also curious as my x200 also has the same excessive heat problem over the same left areas: -left palm rest, above pcmcia slot-left keyboard area

I recently replaced the palmrest on my ThinkPad t520. Previously, I had replaced the palmrest and reused the old ribbon cables. Sadly, that didn't work. So, I purchased a new palmrest on eBay that came with the trackpad and ribbon cables. Here's a picture:Thinkpad T520 W520 Keyboard Palmrest w/CS & FP - 04W0606 - 04W1368When I plug it into the computer I am unable to get the trackpad or the finger print sensor to work. Furthermore, when I do plug it in it somehow disables the trackpoing on my brand new keyboard. I can still use a USB mouse, however. When I unplug the palmrest cable the trackpoint works as normal.I've done a factory reset and I thought that would solve everything but unfortunately it hasn't. The BIOS says that the trackpad is "enabled" so I'm not sure what the problem is.Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions.

After using T450S it was time to upgrade. Seems that designer who made these new thinkpads dont use em in real life. What is the point of make front edge of laptop sharp (0,05mm rounded) ? I bet its for saving manufacturing costs. Yoga 530 even has steel band added to font edge to cut to your palms....it was returned to shop for that reason. Is there a diy way to make it round ? Perhaps router woud do the job, has anyone make it better ?My regards to designer....get a new job..

I purchased my R630 almost as soon as they were relased int he UK (Nov 2010).

I was getting minor electric shocks through my R630 palmrest.
I could swear that the palm rest - keyboard surround was also made of magnesium/metallic alloy - with a shiny metallic black/dark grey finish (similar to the upper case - i.e. lid)

I sent my laptop back because of the electric shock issue, and when returned the palmrest was definitely plastic.
I returned this and was told it was a wrong part. When I got it back again, it was another plastic palm rest.

Am I totally mistaken or have toshiba changed from metallic palm rest to plastic?
Are there 2 different parts - a plastic and a magnesium palm rest?

How would I get electric shocks through a plastic palm rest?!

Any insider knowlege out there would be appreciated.

As far as I know there is only one touchpad part available and the (palmrest) part number is (P000532070) .

Hope this help you?

There is finally a machine with the screen option I want available, but only as a pre-configured one. It includes the smart card reader. I have a T520 - also bought pre-configured - and the palm rest cracked after around 1 year, because of the amount of flex where the smart-card reader is. Might this also be an issue with the X1 Extreme? Are the palm-rests constructed from aluminium, rather than plastic on the X1 Extreme? The T520 has a plastic palm-rest with a roll cage substructure that clearly wasn't good enough. Alternatively, is it possible to buy the plastic insert of machines that do not have the smart card reader?
