I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, seem to be having a rather serious issue with my laptop lately. It seems to be occasionally going through a sort of crash. First it "stutters", locking up, unable to move the mouse, if audio is playing it will loop. Then it just resets itself, as if crashing. There's been no consistency on to what causes it, or how often. Playing a Youtube video, running a virus scan, trying to reinstall the network driver, or even just trying to open up the network center in control panel. Sometimes it will go ten minutes, sometimes a couple hours before resetting itself. When it comes back, I no longer have any wireless network capabilities, and the network driver is missing. The icon displays a box, rather then a wifi symbol, with a red 'x', and says "No connections available". Resetting it again seems to fix it, but some times it takes a a few tries. And sometimes it seems I lose just my wireless network capabilities, without a crash (something that happened while writing out this post). The icon stays a wifi symbol, but with a red x. No one else in my household is having any issues, and my phone connects just fine. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the wireless driver, but that doesn't seem to work. I reset the modem, of course, but that didn't solve it. I ran a diagnostic with the Dell Support Assist, but it said it passed and detected no issue. Only solution I've found seems to be to restart it, and hope it takes a while before it ... Read more

Hello guys,

I've got an acer AMD laptop with built-in wireless capability. I've never had any problem at all connecting to the internet.

Recently, I've had to put in a new hard drive, and after reloading my operating system, I realise that I can't use wireless anymore. If I go to View Network Connections, there is only an icon for a wired LAN connection. I've tried to create new connections, but it doesn't work.

If I click that little clear light-up button in the front to enable/disable internet, it doesn't do anything... it doesn't light up orange, and I don't get the words that normally flash up to tell me that it is enabled or disabled.

Is there anything I can do to make the wireless work again?

A:Enabling Wireless capabilities?

Get from Acer for your model the chipset and networking drivers and install the chipset first. Then get any other drivers that you are missing. Device Manager is the place to go to see all your devices that are missing drivers.

A:how can i tell if my pc has a built in wireless adaptor/capabilities

Here is a very simple way to look at what kind of network connections you have.

go into the control panel, inside here you will find an icon that says network connections.

double click this icon and you will be presented with a list of currently installed network adapters, you should see something like this: "local area connection" and it will tell you the type of adapter it is (ethernet adapter, wireless). if you only see one lan connection then its more than likely just a 10/100 NIC.

Also you can right click on my comptuer, select properties, click on the hardware tab, then select device manager. This list contains all hardware devices on your machine, expand the network adapters and see what you have there.

(note, i assume you are using windows XP)

hope this answers your question.

So, I have a Dell XPS15 with an i7-2720QM (which probably isn't relevant for this, but hey) an Intel(R) HD Graphics Family (onboard graphics card) and NVIDIA GeForce GT540M graphics card.

I have a minidisplay port, HDMI, USB3, and eSATA ports to choose from.

The laptop's display is 1920x1080

So I have a few questions, most fundamentally what are the capabilities of those graphics cards/my computer?
Can they run 3 monitors simultaneously? (Can the onboard run my laptop's built in monitor and the GT540M run externals)
What really happens when you choose to run multiple monitors (in my case, I guess) Does it allocate a graphics card to each monitor or does it pick one graphics card and multitask that one on all the monitors that are running.

More practically and on to the monitor side of things: What really matters in terms of the amount of "space" a monitor gives is how many pixels it has, correct? Having a 30 inch 720 monitor won't give as much screen "space" as a 21" 1080 monitor, correct?
With that in mind, how large a monitor, in pixels, can my current card setup support?

Also, if I felt like it could I potentially drive 2 large monitors on my desk (not driving my laptop's built in monitor) using, say, the HDMI and minidisplay port at the same time?

Sorry it was long, but these are things I want to know and I've had a hard time finding the answers myself.

A:Graphics card capabilities-Multiple monitors

mini display port can push onto multiple monitors or at least is capable of it providing the hardware is there for it, ati do support that on there eyefinity cards.

you may be able to run your laptop monitor and 2 external monitors over hdmi and minidisplay port but it all depends on whether the graphics card actually supports this.

i can't find any direct evidence to support 3 monitors on that gpu but i'm still looking.

also due to the fact it's a laptop and the onboard graphics and the gpu share the same display ports unlike a desktop the chances of utilising each for different displays is slim to none.

oh and if you connect 2 desktop displays then you should be able to disable the laptop output in either the nvidia drivers or using windows personalisation page>display>screen resolution.

Hello Guys, sorry if this has been posted before in this forum, but I've been searching all over the web for a solution to my problem. I have a Sony Viao Z series notebook running Vista business. My wireless was working perfectly fine for around 2 months until it suddenly act strange. It drops the connection, wireless LED turn off even though the radio is set at ON. I tried restarting the system with the radio off and then turning it back on when vista completely loads but the LED still wont go on. I tried to turn on the wireless capabilities using the Vaio Smart Network software, the button is green for wireless, but the LED is still off (the radio is still set to ON). Can someone give me an advice on how to fix this thing? I Appreciate it.

A:Sony Vaio wireless capabilities suddenly malfunctioned

Well, this actually sounds like the hardware may be dying. My first step would be to open the access panel on the bottom (with the battery removed from the laptop) and reseat the mini-PCI wireless adapter.

Hi folks, I just got a Thinkpad x120e E350, and the fans are running constantly regardless of whether the cooling settings are set to active or passive. Is there any way to slow down or fix these fans? Thanks.

I received the notebook from my uncle when he upgraded and I noticed that after I shut it down, the display is still partially lit from the top edge of the screen. This also happens when the timer shuts the screen off. The brightness of this light dims when I disconnect the power cord but it never shuts off. The only way the light does go out is of course, when I remove the battery. I've scowered the web looking for a fix but any related threads do not give any real insight. It's been a few years since this topic has come up so maybe someone may have some ideas.

Can anyone confirm that using more than the official 4Gb max RAM in x120e works? I'm running WIndows 7. I saw one post elsewhere online that 8Gb ("2 x Kingston KVR1066D3S7/4G = 8GB SODIMM DDR3 1066MHz CL7") works, but there was no documentation.

A:Unofficial Max RAM Capacity for x120e

Welcome to the Forum! This has been confirmed many times: x120e definitely supports 8GB of RAM. As a matter of fact, one person even reports installing 16GB of RAM! http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X120e-4GB-or-8GB-Max/td-p/413327I am not sure about 16GB, but if you read the entire thread carefully you will find many confirmations from members and moderators on this Forum that 8GB definitely works without issue in x120e. When people have issues it's because of certain brands of RAM from lower-end manufacturers or some problem with their system board. In that same thread you will find recommendations of many specific manufacturers of 4GB DDR3 RAM which have been confirmed to work smoothly to bring x120e up to 8GB. Use one of the recommended brands and specific model numbers mentioned and you will be OK. Make sure you have Windows 7 64-bit installed to access the full 8GB, as Windows 7 32-bit can only recognize a little over 3GB of RAM.

I had purchased two x120e for my kids a while ago. Those fell out of use. I recall being impressed by the WiFi. So I extracted the card, orded some half to full card adapters and stuck one in a Revo Aspire in the Kitchen. I also upgraded to Win10. Still not working.Use old Lenovo drivers I download along time ago when I hoarded all x120e drivers. (Win7 on the Revo actually identifies the card in device manager as 'Lenovo'. But the Manufacure and prod ID (10EC & 8176) point to Realtek. And for a brief time after the install network adapter was seen (but disabled) I tried several times to enable but it never did. Microsoft Windows 10 updates device drivers automatically, and it is possible the operating system is replacing the older, working device drivers with newer ones that may not be compatible.  Here's one thing you can try:

Open the Device Manager (filename: DEVMGMT.MSC).
Navigate to the Network adapters tree control, expand it, and locate the entry for the Lenovo Realtek WLAN card fromthe X120e.
Right-click on the the entry for the Lenovo Realtek WLAN card for the X120e and select Properties from the context menu that pops up.  The Network Adapters Properties dialog will appear.
In the Network Adapters Properties dialog, click on the Driver tab.
Select Roll Back Driver and click on OK.

At this point, the old device driver should be reloaded.

I have been wanting to purchase the Thinkpad x120e, but I'm not sure if now is a good time, since it was released almost a year ago, and it is the first of it's kind to sport the new AMD e350 processor. I don't know if Lenovo plans on upgrading this soon (since it's been almost a year) and if it would be better to wait for the next gen of this class of non-netbook netbooks. I would like your input on this issue and what you predict for future releases. Thanks!

If Netflix uses Flash, then make sure that hardware acceleration is enabled, and try to limit it to 720p. I know at least that much should work without issue, but 1080p will more than likely bog down.

Hey everyone,

I've been considering getting a Lenovo Thinkapd X120e to replace my old laptop. Need a lightweight laptop with good battery life for my classes. After looking over a couple reviews, I noted a sizable difference in what was reported for the laptop's temperatures. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the X120e getting "too hot"?

FYI: I won't be stressing the laptop much, mostly note-taking using Word or PowerPoint. Also some web surfing, video watching, or very light gaming if the class is particularly dull.

Specs: Planning on upgrading to the 1.6 GHz E-350, 320 GB 7200 rpm HDD, 4 GB of DDR3-1333, and 6-cell battery. Laptop comes with Windows 7 Pro, and I plan to add Ubuntu to it.

Any comments would be great, thanks!

Excellent choice in a Netbook especially with what you want to do; your upgrades are right on. I personally don't have one (but am leaning towards purchasing one in early 2012) but I am also a member of Notebookreview.com (NBR) and there are many people there who own this system. Check out the Lenovo forum at NBR.

Also, check out TechSpot's own reviews of laptops/netbooks. We give it high marks as well and after doing my own research I have found Lenovo has the best build with the E-350.

Just thought a compilation of issues may be beneficial for folks who own an X120e.  Screen adjusts brightness automatically without user input depending on content on screen:http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X100e-screen-brightness-increasing-by-itself/td...This is caused by Vari-Bright being enabled in the Catalyst Control Center.  With this option enabled, the screen will automatically adjust its brightness depending on what is shown on the screen.  The display brightness is increased when the screen is predominantly white while the display brightness is decreased when the screen is predominantly dark.  An easiest way to see this effect happening is to have two tabs opened in a web browser window.  Set one tab to display a website that is mainly filled with white pixels (such as this Lenovo Forum) and another tab to display a website that is mainly filled with dark pixels (such as http://www.krijtenberg.nl/ ).  Switch between the two, pausing a few seconds in each tab. Solution:Open the Catalyst Control Center and select the PowerPlay option in the Power section.  Uncheck the Vari-Bright option (or adjust the slider) and click Apply.  Verify that the automatic adjustment is no longer occuring by doing the two tab experiment described above. ---------------Function keys for brightness control not working after waking from sleep / hibernation in some instances:http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Th... Dell Wireless WLAN 1703 Half Mini-Card + BlueTooth 4.0
Dell Wireless WLAN 1704 Half Mini-Card + BlueTooth 4.0
Dell Wireless WLAN 1901 Half Mini-Card + BlueTooth 4.0
Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 Half Mini-Card + BlueTooth 4.0

I've got a wireless ADSL router with 4 ethernet ports. I've a desktop using XP and connected via ethernet and a laptop running windows 98 connected using a wireless PC Card. I can connect to the internet from both machines but can't get them to see each other.

Laptop says it can't browse the network. I tried the network setup wizard in XP and created a disk when prompted. Tried disk in 98 and rebooted when prompted. On startup, wizard said it couldn't find network card and couldn't continue.

Any help gratefully received. Thanks.

Checklist for networking Windows Machines with TCP/IP
- PCs which are not XP must have TCP/IP installed.
- Each PC must have a unique computer name.
- Each PC must have a network share defined.
- ALL NICS must be on the same subnet (e.g. IP 192.168.0.* subnet mask
- XP PCs must have Netbios over TCP/IP enabled (only essential for XP to talk to W9X PCs).
- MS Client and file & printer sharing must be enabled on each machine.
- All NICs must have their node type = anything except p-node (peer to peer, or point-point).
* To check, open a command prompt and type IPCONFIG /ALL.
- XP's ICF firewall is permanently disabled. (Only necessary for pre XP SP2).
- All 3rd party firewalls are disabled, uninstalled and deleted (until connection is working).
- PCs have the same workgroup (helps, but not essential for XP/2K, necessary for 9X/ME).

Allow 15 mins after rebooting a PC for that PC to appear in the workgroup, or
for it to see all other PCs. Or you can search for the PC by its computer name.
Additional things to check if you still have problems:
- Check your Services are Started on all PCs: Workstation, Server, TCP/IP Netbios helper, Computer Browser.
- XP gives access to its shares via the Net Guest Account. (Note, not the same as the local guest account in user accounts which should be off). Net Guest Account is enabled by default in XP, but... Read more

I have been having issues with my the Linksys Wireless card I installed in my Desktop computer for some time now. For some reason the connection just drops, but it still says I am connected. I leave a dos window open to watch as it happens by pinging the router. All of the sudden it will say "request timed out", but the icon shows that it's still connected to the wireless network.

I have tried just about everything to overcome this but nothing seems to work. Rebooting the router will allow it to work for a few minutes and then it times out again. Sometimes it will continue timing out, sometimes it will reconnect and sometimes it will says limited or no connection. Sometimes hitting repair will do the same thing...make it work for a few moments and they down again.

I have 4 other devices that connect to that router wirelessly and they have no issues at all, so I'm not prepared to blame the router. I noticed that my desktop's event view shows this entry frequently:

“The system detected that network adapter” Linksys...PCI Adapter – “Packet Scheduler Miniport was connected to the network, and has initiated normal operation over the network adapter”.

Would seeing this event frequently not indicate that the card was dropping often and coming back up?

I'm pretty much ready to run a 50' ethernet cable to the computer, but I thought I'd check with you guys first before I completely give up on the wireless card.

I ordered a new wireless card listed for my serial number from Lenovo encompass and I finally got to install it. I put it in, turned on my machine and I get the screen that says "Unauthorized wireless card. Turn off and remove it." (or whatever it actually says). How can I make this work? I used Lenovo's part that it said would work and now it's not working and I can't boot. I had heard somewhere that setting the BIOS to default might help so I did that and it did nothing for me. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

My google searches are being redirect to various sites and i receive a error message saying "dell wireless wlan card has stopped working" but im still using my wireless internet just fine. They both started acting up after an ill advised download from a bit torrent site. I scanned my computer with malwarebytes and it found some infections but did not do anything for me, then i scanned with avg anti-virus and it found nothing. (malwarebytes and avg anti-virus are the only anti virus software i have and are both fully updated)

My computer is a Dell Inspiron 1501 with Windows Vista Basic
AMD Athlon 64 x2

Whenever im redirected i get 1 of 2 images in the address bar (see attachment)

Hi, My T460s laptop has an Intel 8260 wireless LAN card. I would like to use an Atheros card (such as AR9580 or AR9590). I read that only some WiFi cards are whitelisted by the BIOS on the laptop. I tried looking at the list for my product T460s at   https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/pt/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-... But I did not find any substitutes for the card. Am I to understand that Is it not possible for me to use an Atheros AR9580 or any other similar Atheros wireless LAN cards on my lenovo T460s ?  A followup question would be if I have t omatch the number of antennas on my laptop (which I think is 2) with the wilresss LAN card I buy ? Can I buy a card that has 3 antenna ports and only connetc 2 of them ?  Thank you

Hi. I recenly purchased a Dell Dimension 3000 running XP. I connect to the internet using a Linksys Wireless-G (model WMP54GS). That works just fine. However, I got a new video card, a GeForce FX 5500 and when it's installed the wirless card doesn't really work. It struggles to find the network. If it does find it it generally won't connect. Once in a while I can get it to connect but that's not very common. Once I remove the video card the network works fine. I've tried installing a variety of drivers for both PCI cards. I've tried moving the cards to different slots and the results are always the same. Any ideas as to why this would happen?

A:Wireless card stops working when video card is installed.

how is the power supply? Maybe adding the video card reduces the power enough to cause the nic to drop.

Hello, Basically I want to find a way to use my Alltell wireless USB modem card to provide Internet access to 2 computers. We have a cradelpoint router that accepts a USB wireless card but we do not want to use this router because we live in a very rural area and the router makes slow internet speeds even slower and with the router we loose the internet connection frequently and have to disconnect then reconnect at least once a night.

We want to set this up but do not know how, can you help?:
1. Plug the wireless usb card into one of the computers and have that computer then connect to a switch or hub so all the other computers can communicate with it. Then enable Internet Connection Sharing on the computer with the Altell card. This will basically turn the computer into a NAT server which will allow it to communicate with all the other computers with internal IP addresses and translate requests/responses to the Internet.

Do I have to buy a switch or hub? how do I add the IP address in - I am lost in trying to set this up!!

A:Using an AllTell wireless card to make a wireless network?

Here are details if the computer with the mobile wireless card is running a Windows OS: Using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing).

Unless the router is defective or you are not positioning it well I can't think of any reason why it would slow the not-very-fast wireless connection. What do you get with something like speedtest.net with the card in a computer and what do you get using the router with only that same computer connected to it?

A hub is half duplex so can slow a network with multiple computers the same way Wi-Fi does, so best to use a switch. If the router you have has enough ports to connect all your computers you can use it as a switch.
