unable install update java 6.020, and unable uninstall java 6.018

Q: unable install update java 6.020, and unable uninstall java 6.018

Whatever I do to update java 6.0.18 to 6.0.20, I get the same error code:
"1606, could not find network location :. " (It is a stand alone computer, and no network installation.)
I get this message with online update by jucheck
I get it with online update with jxpiinstall.exe
It get it with the offline installer : jre-6u20-windows-i586-s.exe

And even more comprehensible, I get this error message if I try to uninstall Javan6.0.18
(I thought I make a clean installation after, but that is impossible too.)
the update from 6.017 to 6.018 went easy without any manual handling required.

I use: Vista sp2, on a Acer Aspire 5810T

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

L.S.,

When I try to uninstall my old version of Java via Add/Remove programs it uninstalls all the way through, but at the last moment comes with the following message: Internal error 2330 . 23 C:/programs files/java/jre1.5.0_02/bin/client.

I cannot find anything about this on the web? Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks, KoosHopeloos

A:Unable to uninstall Java 5 update 2: internal error 2330. 23

Hi

Thats a Windows Installer error.

"Internal Error 2330: Error getting file attributes: [3] GetLastError: [2]"

Which version of Windows Installer do you have?

You can go into C:\Program Files\Java and delete that folder. It will delete the software from your computer as long as its not running.

Then if you download the latest update 10.. jre 1.5.0_10, it will overwrite the necessary keys and you should be fine.

Latest Java Runtime Environment: J2SE(TM) Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10 has been released
Latest Flash version (if you don't yet have it): Flash 9.0.28.0 has been released

See if that helps

Unable to uninstall or update Java 7.0.70 to patched 7.15 version. Tried via add/remove programs, Revo Uniinstaller Free Version and Java RA. Used offline Java installer. First error:

C:\users\....\AppData\local low\Sun\Java\jre1.7.0_06\java_sp.dll is corrupt
Error: java_sp.dll

Java RA Found and removed: C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\Application Data\Sun\Java\jre1.7.0_09 and Found and removed: SOFTWARE\JavaSoft.

Used Java RA to try and uninstall 7.0.70. Stated complete then "updated to latest" but will only update to 6.6. Now, when attempting online/offline uninstall getting error message "Browser Launch 1314" then it says unable to complete install of 7.15.

I get the sneaky suspicion that Revo nuked some files on 7.7 although it is supposed to backup all files. Was using moderate mode.Revo stated it was backing up first but then no backup listed.  Even tried a system restore before the Revo run but didn't help. Searched the registry for 1314 but no result related to Java. Searched java.com and google but all dead ends. Ran tweaking.com repair including Chkdsk and SFC also. Getting same Browser Launch 1314 error.

Unable to install the Java 8 update 25.  My system is Windows 7, Home Premium, Service Pack 1.  When I tried to install the update using google chrome I received error code:  1603.  I've tried installing turning off my virus protection and it still kept giving me that same error code.  I deleted the downloads in my download files and I tried installing using iexplorer 11 and it seems as though I got further on the install, but it still couldn't get it complete.  It says it can't finish installing until I close the open files:  jp2launcher.exe  jp2launcher.exe  says I have 2 of those files open.  I can't seem to figure out where they are open at in my java.

Hello,

I am having problems updating Java on Windows XP Home. I am getting an error when trying to install the latest version saying something like "unable to download Java' "download failed"

I have no Java showing in add/remove programs to remove so I can reinstall. I have also run JavaRA to cleanup old versions of Java and am still unable to download/install.

I have tried to download the manual patcher and am still getting the same error.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

A:[SOLVED] Unable to update/install Java

Hello jamisz!

I had a similar problem with one of the machines I have at home. I also tried running JavaRA to clean up previous version of Java that might have been installed incorrectly, but to no avail. What worked for me was deleting the folder that had the JRE inside. It should be located in a similar directory as this:

Quote:

C:\Program Files\Java

Completely remove that folder, then remove the folder:

Quote:

C:\WINDOWS\Sun

After deleting these two files, empty your recycle bin and restart your system. Upon restarting, download the latest version of Java from this location:

Download Java for Windows Firefox

Installation should be smooth. Sorry if this is a bit simple and crude of a solution, but it worked for me, so it's worth a try. If by chance those two files that need to be removed are not there, it might have something to do with your registry.

Hey guys. So I used ninite.com to install java. If you are not familiar with it, it has a list of a bunch of programs, you select them and it creates an installer for you to install them all at once. Great little site if you have not seen it.

Anyway, the problem with it is it does not allow you to choose where to install things. So it started to install java 6 24 for me, and when I realized I could not tell it where to install it I cancelled the operation. So now in my list of programs I can uninstall I have Java(TM) 6 Update 24 (96.9 MB)

I try to uninstall it and I get the message I am sure many have come here for help with (yes I have looked through many of them for a solution but this seems to be such an error that is unique on a case by case basis):

"Error 1723. There is a problem with this windows installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor"

I looked in my Uninstall list using regedit and it is not there. No Java files in my Program Files (both 64 and x86 Program Files folders). That was my main mistake I believe (besides not making a restore point before installing anything) - I deleted the Java folder and then tried to uninstall it after emptying my trash. So no .dll file

So everything from this sentence below is retractable because I have set a restore point before trying to remove java.

I played around in C:\Windows\Installer and removed the java install from there ... Read more

Hi! I'm having a problem now as I can't use any Java-based application as I can't uninstall nor install Java RE 6 update 22.

What happened..
"...I made a stupid mistake by uninstalling Java manually from ':/C' and not by using Add/Remove programs. So when I tried to remove Java from Add/Remove I got a "Fatal error during Installation" message and the uninstallation terminated unfortunately. So I have to complete my work for what I did. So I've deleted all the Java folders from C:/Program Files & C:\Program Files\Common Files & in C:\WINDOWS but it's still in Add/Remove programs list.

So I tried to remove it from the registry and did it but still the problem got worse..(See in the pic)
See there's no Remove button for Java RE so I could not uninstall from Add/Remove Programs list.I tried all the uninstallation softwares like Revo Uninstaller Pro etc.. but nothing worked.

I tried..
# Windows MSI
# Registry cleaning softwares
# Uninstaller softwares
but nothing worked. When I tried to reinstall it says that "I've already installed Java in my computer" but I cant uninstall Java from my computer nor re-install it!

Any solutions..?

With the Adobe Reader problem that you had before, I recommended the offline download. I would recommend the offline download of Java (there is no replacement)in this case as well. That's what Java's website also recommends.Try the offline installation:http://dl8-cdn-02.sun.com/s/ESD6/JSCDL/jdk...dows-i586-s.exeMake sure you run it as an Administrator.Good luck!

Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Tried to install Java and the install hung.

Checked some threads and came back and tried a standalone install.

The standalone didn't seem very standalone, still seemed web based to me, but anyway...

The Install quickly informed me that the install was unsuccessful - like almost immediately, before even trying, like it had read that info from some log the previous install had left.

I tried to Uninstall. Doesn't show on Windows list of installed progs.

Tried Java Uninstall service or prog or whatever they call it

It wouldn't run because it apparently needs Java to run.

So here I am. Win7 with no Java on it. And Win7 I can't begin to try to put Java on it because of the Java on it.

Any ideas what I could do?

Hello hemants

Go here

Click the ?Download? button and you will soon get an option to verify your installation.

When you click on the ?Download? button a check is run to see which version you have. If you do not have the latest one the download will start and install it for you too. If you do have the latest you will be told so and no download will start.

If you have to install an update, after the EULA there is a page with
Google Toolbar and Google Desktop (I can`t remember if it is Google or Yahoo) checked for downloading, so watch for this and uncheck the boxes.

Hi

For many months I've been trying to install Java's latest update. been attempting it for so long I think Java has updated twice during this time. Sometimes it worked for a few weeks or a month then I'd get a message telling me I need to update my version. So off I go....back to Java - ran the test - sure enough it would say I needed to update or I had no Java at all. Right now the latest version is jre1.7.0_09-windowsi586.exe. I got it directly from the JAVA site.

I've tried many fixes. From my OS troubleshooter to the MS Fixit tool at the fixit center and other tools in between. All of them say they have fixed the problem. I've spent hours reading about Java issues, fixes, etc at various sites discussing why - this happens. Its conflicting views.

I do recall installing different versions of Java in the past because the site advised me to for reasons I can't remember now..... I think it was the JRE 2 - that had a browser plugin which had a fix for a later version of Java.

In the last several months I periodically - dl and installed the latest version but each time I tested it - it would say it was NOT installed so I'd do it again after checking BOTH the destination folder (empty) and the control panel to see if it was in there and it wasn't so I tried again with same result. Give JavaRa a try. It has always been an effective tool to remove all remnants of Java.

After using JavaRa, run a system file checker scan. This will check for any damaged or corrupt system files that might be preventing a clean install of the latest version of Java. Run the scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If any problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan.

I have a Windows XP computer that started having Java problems. We tried to uninstall it and install a new one but can't do either one.

The computer currently has both Java 1.6.0.16 and 1.6.0.18 on it.

Whenever I try to uninstall 16 it says 'The feature you are trying to install is on a Network Resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternative path to a folder containing the installation package jre1.6.0_13-c.msi'

Whenever I try to uninstall 18 it says the same but says jre1.6.0_17-s.msi can't be found.

I've searched the computer for these files and they are nowhere.

So I tried to install a new version without getting rid of the old and neither Java's online or offline installers will work. They give me several different errors. Once it said Error 1714. 'The older version of Java 6 Update 16 cannot be removed.' and once it even gave me the exact same error from above, once it said bin\awt.dll could not be found and it always adds in Error 1722 'There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the set up did not finish as expected'

I tried deleting Java manually and then reinstalling and that didn't help either so I just moved everything back the way it was.

Searching google found a bunch of people saying to use the Windows Installer Cleanup to remove the old Java but that program is no longer offered by Microsoft. Does anybody have any other suggestions?

If you have desktop programs which require java to run then the best thing you can do is disable it's browser functions, this can be done by the method described on the following page, that way java can still run for those who need it as an environment for their desktop programs, but it will not be vulnerable as a browser plugin.

I have been getting this error message when I click "Add more photos" to my photo albums on Facebook for some time now:

Unable to update files in cache.

sun.plugin.cache.JarCacheVersionException: Number of attributes specified in 'cache_archive' doesn't match those in 'cache_version'
at sun.plugin.cache.JarCacheUtil.getJarsWithVersion(Unknown Source)

at sun.plugin.AppletViewer.appletInit(Unknown Source)
at sun.plugin.viewer.LifeCycleManager.initAppletPanel(Unknown Source)
at sun.plugin.viewer.WNetscapePluginObject$Initer.run(Unknown Source)

However, Facebook's Java photo uploader application used to always work fine regardless of that error message.

This morning, however, it has stopped working. I am unable to upload any photos, because it will always say:
Upload Failed. Click on My Photos and try again.Click to expand...

It never works.

The simple uploader (which is non-Java) does work, which seems to mean that there is no problem with Facebook's servers; instead there is a problem with Java.

I have around 200 pictures I wish to upload and uploading 5 at a time via the simple uploader is definitely not an option.

Could someone please help?

My programs in control panel has been showing the Java 7 Update 7 program for a long time.  I have tried and tried to delete this program so I can get the latest version of Java.  While I seem to be able to download Java 7 Update 25, when it tries to install a message says the program installation stopped and could not be installed.  This has happened several times.  Finally, I was able to download and Install Java 7 Update 21, but I am still unable to uninstall the Java 7 Update 7.  I have ran Autoruns, Mini Toolbox, TDDskiller, and ESET.  After doing all this, the program remains on my computer.  I was advised to run the dds program and post to this forum.  Thank you for any and all help.  I appreciate the work you are doing.

I also want to see if someone can help me to get rid of some of the programs that start on startup.  I don't need all of this stuff running and that may be a large part of why this computer runs so slow.  Thank you so much.

The DDS log file and attachment are included with this post.

Thank you...Carla

I downloaded the newest version of Java on my XP, Explorer 7. It shows up on my desktop but when I try to run it, I get a message, "Java unable to download." I currently have 1.4.2.

I noticed in my advanced tab there is a check mark by, "Always use Java 1.4.2. Should I uncheck this and try running it again? Also, I have never unistalled anything. Should I uninstall 1.4.2 before running the new version? I am afraid to do this because I am afraid if I uninstall and I can't install the new version, then I won't have any Java at all.

I also got the same message when trying to download the lastest Flash, "Unable to download."

I would be grateful for any help or suggestions.

Thank you

Try javara for your java issuesDocumentation:http://raproducts.org/javara.htmlThis is what you can do with JavaRa -Search For Updates - There are two ways to update Java with Javara.* Update Using jucheck.exe - This requires Java version 5 or higher installed.* Update Using Sun Java's Website - This will bring you to the Java download page > http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jspRemove Older Versions - This will remove all older versions of Java found on the machine. After the removal process, a logfile will pop up (C:\JavaRa.log) listing all the files/folders/registry entries that have been removed.Additional Tasks - There are a number of other tasks that JavaRa can perform. Here is a list of them -* Remove Useless JRE Files - These are the JRE files found in the temp folders.* Remove Startup Entry - This is the startup entry related to jusched.exe.* Update JavaRa Please download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.http://prm753.bchea.org/click/click.php?id=9 * Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program. * Click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer. * Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK. * A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location. Then download and install Java Runtime Environment (JRE)current version

You could try clicking on the green Run now button found in the following Microsoft article:

Maybe worth a shot.

Try using JavaRa to get rid of that very outdated version.

The current Java version for Windows 7 64-bit is Java 7 Update 40(1.7.0.40).

I cannot uninstall java (TM) 6 update 29
I get error code 1723 from windows 7 a req. DLL cannot be run
A Norton tech could not do so either.
Java 6 is no longer available for download so I cannot download it and the uninstall. I was advised not to download it from a non-java source.
I'd blow it off but it's listed as a security risk by Norton power eraser.
I cannot even find a reference to this problem on the JAVA site.
I am a loath to pay JAVA to solve a problem they caused. Is there any other option

Hi!

Sites that use Java do not open in IE10. I have the latest version installed. Java shows as enabled in Internet Options, and in Java Control Panel. I read somewhere that the solution was to reinstall as Administrator; which worked. Until I rebooted - then it stopped working again, and reinstalling as Administrator no longer helps. Besides it's silly to have to reinstall every time I reboot. I've added the Java sites to the Trusted zone, and made sure everything is set to enabled there. Still doesn't work.

I can open the sites in Chrome though. Including the installation checker at java.com. It says 'Java needs your permission to run'; after clicking 'Always allow for this site' it works just fine. But no such popup shows up in IE. I'm assuming that's the problem, the popup doesn't show. How can I force it to show, or manually do whatever it's supposed to do??

Brgds

Danny
