XP experts. Is there any way to ---toggle folder options--New Window/Same Window?

Q: XP experts. Is there any way to ---toggle folder options--New Window/Same Window?

I was just wondering if there was XP hack or some small add-on freeware that would add to the taskbar or a desktop shortcut a simple toggle to quickly toggle between "Open each folder in the same window" and "Open each folder in it's own window"? Thx.

Preferred Solution: XP experts. Is there any way to ---toggle folder options--New Window/Same Window?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: XP experts. Is there any way to ---toggle folder options--New Window/Same Window?

I don't know the answer, but playing around I found something that may serve as a workaround if you do not find something better.

I'm set to open folders in the same window. When I right click on a folder the first two menu items are usually Open and Explore, but sometimes they are reversed. If I select the 2nd item I get the folder opening in a new window.

I have a Dell computer. Why do my window folder options keep changing?????????? I have them set to stay the way I set them on each window and not to change at restart. Well whenever I go into My Computer, or My Games folder they are always changing... I go into folder options and put check mark to keep the window how I want it, and when I go back in, they change again. I like the Icons in those two folders. And it is always changing to the small display icons, which is how most other folders are set. HELP HELP

A:Window folder options keep changing

In a folder, go to tools and then folder options. Under the view tab, in the scroll box go down to "remember each folder's setting" and make sure that the box is checked. If it still messes up, go back and then click the box "reset all folders".

Hello, I REALLY want to change the way my folders are opening (regular file folders stored on my computer) but I am not sure what command/s I need to use (if it's that simple).
Currently, my folders have somehow changed so the default folder window opens up as a search window with the name of whatever folder I just clicked on. I then have to hit enter (to start the "search") and then it pulls up all the files. I don't know how this setup happened, because I used to be able to click a folder and it would open right up and show all the files.
I am in the folder options window (file types tab), and I am trying to add a "New action" for my folders/file folders and I don't know what commands to use so that this action goes for ANY/ALL folders, not just a specific one......

Changing these options may not even solve this problem, so if there are any other suggestions of things to try..... I'm open to them! I am just irritated with this setup, and really want to change it back to the original setup asap.

All my windows open up small.even Internet Explorer.I always have to maximize the window every time I open up a program or folder. Is there a way to change this problem or a hack?please help! It really can bug me.

A:window viewing,size & options

Hi, welcome to the forums the usual fix for this is to take your mouse pointer to the edge of one side of the window you have to get it to change to a double sided arrow (a little practice and your there). Now with the double sided arrow holding down the mouse drag the window to the screen edge do this for all sides of the window. Now happy with the size click on the square resize at the top right corner "Maximize" (minimize, maximize, close) . Windows should remember this setting so next time the window opens to the size you have set.. let us know how you get on.

I fiddled with the action settings and managed to get it to open in Explorer, but no matter I do folders opens in NEW Explorer windows. This problem has developed in the last few days:
If I plug in a USB stick, the Removable Disc window opens eg "Removable Disc (J", but the options (which should be listed for me to choose from) are not showing. The window is a complete blank white. I can open the drive folder through My Computer. If I insert a data CD into a DVD/CD drive the same thing happens. I have Autoplay set up so that I am prompted to choose an action from the list (which should be displayed, but now isn't).

If I insert an Audio CD, it starts playing in Windows Media Player.

I am using Windows XP Home (with SP3 installed last year without problems).

I haven't installed any software recently in the relevant time frame.

I don't particularly want to go back to an earlier restore point.

I have been unable to find anything relevant in a search of these forums.
Also, I am uncertain as to where on the forums I should be posting this problem.

Let's hope someone can help.

I had updates on automatic. Subsequently I one Blue apology screen, otherwise all seemed fine until this morning. I left the computer for about 10 minutes and upon my return, it was rebooting. A:Windows 10 Servicing Options for Window 10 Pro update blurb

As I understand things, Windows 10 Pro gives users the ability to kinda, sorta customize how updates and upgrades are handled. I'm running 10 Pro v1511. When I click Start > Settings > Update & security > Advanced options, I see this dialog box:

You can choose to have updates installed automatically (recommended by Microsoft) or you could have Microsoft notify you to schedule a restart when it's most convenient for you. You can also select how updates are delivered. You can select to receive updates from one source (Microsoft) or from more than one source. (Microsoft says this could speed up app and update downloads.)

But also on the above dialog box is an option to Defer upgrades. An upgrade is when Windows 10 receives a major overhaul (like going from v1511 to v1607.) Some folks want to wait a while to make sure the bugs are ironed out and they don't want updates downloading/installing the latest upgrade.

As far as a lengthy restart after installing the latest updates, all I can tell you is my computers took an average of 30 minutes to finish the process. I'm guessing that was due in part to my ISP's download speed as well as the scan done by Microsoft's monthly Malicious Malware Removal Tool.

I hope this helps a bit. If not, I apologize for taking up your time.

A:clicking folder opens search window instead of folder

One thought is that your mouse button settings may have somehow changed.

Select "Start" > "Control Panel" > "Category View" > "Appearance and Themes" and in "Appearance and Themes" look for the small window in your upper left hand corner of the window which says"SEE ALSO"

Under that will be four links; "FONTS"

This will open the "Mouse Pointers Property Dialogue Box" Select the "Buttons Tab"

There you can check to see if somehow your mouse button settings have been changed somehow.

If this doesn't help you the perhaps someone else has an idea.

Hope this helps!

Hi Everyone,

I am not sure which Windows update caused this, but ever since that download, whenever I close a window, the little blue disc keeps turning until the window DOES finally close. (Hope you understand what I'm saying.) This happens after closing EACH window, ALL the time.

Essentially, it takes a few extra secs for the closed window to really close. It's irritating/frustrating because I don't know how to fix it. I've put as much of my comp's info in my profile as I know or could find. Have been working with comps for six or so years. i couldnt think of how to describe it for the title easily and I am about to go home to maybe tomorrow I will work it out.

My Vista box is currently demonstrating curious behaviour. When I open IE7 I select a favorite and it opens a new window with that favorite in it. If I do a search with my default provider in the original window, the search results appear in a new tab in the second window.

The second window does not display this behaviour. It works normally with my standard settings - open favorites in the current tab.

Again, favorites chosen in the first window continue to appear in the second window. Search results too.

Running IE7 in safe mode stops this behaviour but I have not installed any new software and I have removed all my temporary internet files/addon settings etc.

Any ideas would be great. Funny old game eh

Thanks for all the help. I want to make my shorcuts start programs and windows (In WIndows Xp Pro SP3) at a certain position and with a certain size.

When you move a pop up window too high the title/tool bar of the child window is hidden by the main window's tool bar/title bar. As a result the child window is stuck and can not be resized or moved back to the original position or any where you can see
the whole window. Though you can scroll the contents and all the window itself is stuck. The child window never gets the focus back. Unless you close the main window you can not get the child window back to its normal position.
Is there any way that you can move the whole window (not just the contents) back to its original location or maximize that inner window only. Any short cut to move the window only results in moving the main window not the child window.

I would like to be able to open a new browser window in Firefox which would start at the identical location to the one that's open rather than opening at the home page.

In IE, File / New / Window works well for this purpose, and then if you wanted it to start at the Home Page, you could just run Explorer a second time.

It gives the flexibility of going off on other trails with the additional window, but still having the original window open. I'm not crazy about tabs which take up extra space in the browsing window. However, is there even a way to open a new tab at the same location as the current window? Maybe I'm missing the joy of tabs somehow and am stuck in my old way of thinking. Still, I would like to know if what I want is possible.

A:[SOLVED] Open new browse window at same location as current window

Hi I don't think that is an option but I understand what your after and this is the way I do it with keyboard short cuts of

Ctrl + C = copy (While holding down Ctrl tap the C key once)
Ctrl + V = paste
Ctrl + T = new tab
Ctrl + N = New page

OK starting with tabs which I think is the best thing since sliced bread. You have the page open that you want to start with go up to the URL at the top of the page (do it with this page) click only once on the URL this will highlight it or if you like to say select it.

Now to copy the URL Ctrl + C your computer will remember this link until you either copy something else or you shut down the computer.

Now we open a new tab Ctrl + T a new blank tab will open and the URL location is blank but with the cursor already in it so we paste the URL there by Ctrl + V and tap the enter key and you have the duplicate page

Now working with a new page there is just a couple of small differences.

You have the page open that you want to start with go up to the URL at the top of the page (once again do it with this page) click only once on the URL this will highlight it or if you like to say select it.

Now we open a new page with Ctrl + N a new page will open but the difference is it will not be blank it will be your home page so as there is already a URL that we want to get rid of. The simple way is to once again click on it only once to select it then paste the saved URL by Ctrl + V and tap the enter key and ... Read more

I am using Windows Internet Explorer XP - Version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803_2158.

Recently I've noticed that I cannot view in full screen anymore. Let me explain. I created a website that lets a user enter their name and social # and then choose a test in 1 of 3 languages. Once you choose a language, a new browser window opens and the test/information is displayed in this new window.

Since end of last year, it worked correctly. A new browser window would open and it would be in full screen mode. You could NOT see the very top of the page - where it gives you the page title, and the options to close the window, or minimize/expand it.

Now, all of a sudden, it displays all that information - title, close option etc. Does anyone know why this is? And how I can put it back to being full screen?

FYI - I think this may have something to do with a service pack upgrade within the last couple weeks but am not positive. Also, I know that lots of people were having issues with the Service Pack 2 and all the bugs.

Can anyone shed any light on this issue and what I can do to fix it?

I have a Lenovo N580 laptop. Last week, I had to do a factory reset (with help from Lenovo Tech Support) because of compatibility problems with new software from my employer and windows 8.1 which is actually worse than windows 8. The compatibility problems caused my screen to go black. When booting, the Lenovo logo appeared and I had a cursor, but nothing else accept a black screen. I tried suggestions found here and the Lenovo help forum, but none worked and the factory reset was the last resort. Now I am back to using Windows 8 (this was actually the second factory reset due to other problems caused by win 8.1).

Anyway, everything is working (for now) and I also have Classic Shell installed. HOWEVER, before this second factory reset, when I had multiple windows open, aero peek worked fine. Now, it doesn't. I followed earlier suggestions of right clicking the taskbar, then clicking Properties, but the box for "Use Peek ..." is dimmed (grayed out) so I cannot check it to enable aero peek.

I got used to this feature in Win 7 and was glad to see it in Win 8, but it is the only feature about Win 8 and 8.1 that I like. Thanks for your help.
