Impossible popup! HELP!

Q: Impossible popup! HELP!

For weeks now, I've been getting these Russian popups on several different websites that I frequent. I don't know how to get rid of them! I've run a plethora of malware programs and anti-virus programs and they still come up! I've left pictures below of what they look like, can anyone help me get rid of them?!

I haven't installed any toolbars or free programs recently.
No one but my son has been on my computer and he only checked my mail for me while I was in hospital.
I've tried opening Firefox in safe mode but it still happens (also happens in IE).
I've checked Firefox Add Ons and there's nothing fishy there.
Any idea how to make them go away?
This is what it looks normally (with Adblock Plus on)
This is what it looks like in safe mode

Thank you for your help!

Preferred Solution: Impossible popup! HELP!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My computer is infected with some sort of malware and I still have not found a way to get rid of it. Isaw a topic posted over in the "Am I infected? What do I do?" thead and got some suggestions which bought me here. The link to that thread is here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/178465/mtn5goolews-and-popupadvnet-malware/.The first symptoms I noticed were unprompted popup adds from the sites mtn5.goole.ws and popup.adv.net. I have also noticed that offensive adds are being inserted in the add bars on some reputable, mainstream websites. This sypmtom does not seem to occur on every website and I cannot detect any sort of pattern with it.I have run a variety of different programs and scans including Mcafee, TrojanHunter, a-squareed and the problem persists. The programs have located a variety of different trojans and while they say that they are able to remove them, the syptoms and the trojans seem to not go away. Secondly, I noticed that I cannot go to Microsoft windows update, get mcafee definitions etc. I can find and go to microsoft center to get the download of their latest browser fix, but when I press download, it either redirects me to www.msn.com or page not found error.due to not being able to reach out to teh mainstream sites, I cannot even download the latest virus efinitions (so my McAfee is complaining), cannot go get the latest patches rom microsoft (so I am complaining).I saw in the previous thread that Buckeye_Sam asked to download and run RSIT.exe.... AVG popup - This shows up whenever the PC starts and periodically after 10-15 minutes of using the PC (no specific trigger noticed). However a full scan shows no infections or warnings.2. You see 5 in the screenshot, the the error number varies randomly. All these started when I put my pendrive in a virus infested PC and then put it in my PC. I downloaded VLC media player (apparently not from the right place) and since then I have been getting ads on every web page I go to. It happens in chrome as well as IE. Pop up windows, pop up tabs, pop up banners and those extra double-underlined links which appear randomly in all the text which bring you to more ad sites (with pop up bubbles if you hover over them. They say "ads by bettersurf" down in the corner.) The ads seem to be for all different things, so it's hard to pin down what exactly to call this virus. Some of them include globaltechexpert.com, downloadcamp.com, yoursoftsite.com, fastonlinefinder.com, etc, etc. One that always appears up in the corner of the page says Call For Great Tech Support with a number. Also there seem to be extra ads embedded in the webpages themselves and sometimes the pics that actually should be there are way over-sized and distort the spacing of the pages. I have already run a full scan with Malwarebytes which detected a few things, but deleting them did not help. Please help! It is extremely annoying and things seem to be slower too. I'm running Windows 7 (64 bit).

Recently cleaned my parents computer of the Adware Portal Scan trojan. Now, friend is having similar problems (computer trying to dial up automatically and sudden bombardment of popups despite having two popup stoppers). However, I'm not seeing the slmss or mwsvm files. He can't even install a new anti-virus program because his cd drive has been disabled. Below is the hijack this log from his computer. I know there's a lot of junk; I've tried to warn him about his internet traffic habits. Right now, though, our main concern is regaining access to his cd drive and his internet. The repeated auto dialing is shutting down all other activities. Any help someone can give would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

I've been given a friends computer to have a look at (and in my opinion it is the crappiest install I have ever seen done by a PC company- custom bootloaders, moddified themes, bloatware all over the place).

When the computer starts up, a warning that this copy of windows is not genuine pops up. I suspect this may be the case- but what is confusing is that the popup is for Windows Vista Ultimate.

The copy of XP runs a (modified XP start bar, Vista Icons). I've checked that its not a themed copy of Vista (my computer -> properties, checked control panel and its style networking, dxdiag confirms xp). The version of XP is some 'Xp Ice'.

Why would the windows Vista "not genuine popup" in an XP operating system?? And how on earth can I fix it?

Cheers guys

A:windows not genuine popup - xp but popup is for vista :S

install a valid, genuine copy of XP.
XP ICE is a pirated copy someone has cobbled together using pieces of Vista, hence the Vista error.

I am getting 2 popups when I start my PC that have never been here before:(  Just started happening a few weeks ago.

I did have a virus, which someone on the Forum helped me get rid of.  I thought that might get rid of the pop ups too but it did not.

I am attaching a screen image of the pop ups.  Please see if you can help me.

On the Outlook profile - I try each time to click the radio button - set as default - but it doesn't appear to be listening.

A:snap, crackle POPUP after POPUP!!!

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Hey guys it's me again with my annoying and those that seem to be impossible-to-fix-problems.

Well 3 months ago i bought an AMD 5600+ Dual Core and i had lots of problems since then, believing it was defective, i wrote to AMD support and requested an RMA. My replacement arrived today. It fixed LOTS of random crashes and my computer was able to boot up properly with both rams placed on in dual channel. I went to play on Soulstorm, it crashed, sometimes half way through a game or sometimes about 5 minutes into the game. I went on another game which is Company of Heroes, it crashed too.

The only reason i tested these 2 games was because they crashed most of the times when i had the defective processor.I thought it was the RAM but i thought it wouldn't make any sense because while waiting for my replacement to arrive, i put in my old AMD Athlon 3500+ and it worked fine with EVERY SINGLE games so it couldn't be the RAM and it can't be the replacement either. Not knowing what else to do, i took one stick of ram out, and guess what? It worked like a charm ! I really have no idea what's going on inside but if anyone had been through this or anyone who knows how to fix please help and....ermm if it works you'll be able to rest assured that a person on earth is grateful and just wants to kill you with hugs XD

I have a folder in my external terabyte that appeared some time ago. I can not delete it with any software. I tried to delete with DOS and it says all the same. The problem is that it will not let me downgrade it to a write-able format. It seems to be locked in READ ONLY status. I have attempted to take ownership of the drive and the files, but I can not get rid of it. When I first noticed it, it was random letters. When I tried to delete the file it turned into many many "Z's". When I ran the DOS delete protocol it changed into 6 "Z's"; with in that folder is a empty folder called "Update". Since then I have not been able to do anything about it. I don't know what to do. I even downloaded a program called Delete on Boot, and still no success. I have been coming here for about a year when I caught the Rogue Internet Security 2010. It was since then, 12/30/09 the day that i reformatted to yield to the virus's victory that the file first appeared in the external hard drive. I am wits end and I know someone out there can help me. Please tell me what to do. I was told that it was very complex and destructive hack file. Am I infected again?

I have installed on my computer a new PC only version of Windows 8. I've not purchased a new PC for about 8 years so its impossible it came with the computer, I built the computer myself.

I remember I brought an upgrade copy of Win8 in error, I got it from PC world. I still have those disk but now I also have this new PC version. I remember going back to PC to tell them I brought it in error I also remember calling the MS helpline.

Can anyone make sense of this? How did this copy come to be working on this computer?

I'm currently wanting to do a clean install but I can't because I can't workout what happened in the past

HELP

Cheers

A:How is this even impossible?

Sounds like you may have an OEM System Builder versions of Windows 8. It is intended to be installed by someone or a company building a new computer that is to be resold. That particular version includes a personal use license which allows anyone to buy an OEM System Builder copy of the software and install it on a (new or old) PC that is intended for personal use. It should have come with an installation key.

Here is some more information on the ZDnet web site.

I have also recently been getting annoying messages such as SysProtect downloads to help fix your computer, You maybe be affected by Blackworm Virus, and a nwe one, Something about the Beagle virus .. Pops up in the same way the Blackworm Virus one does. Also when i exit the SysProtect popup it will direct me to a page to install it. I then close that and get another popup to install it cuz it is (recommended) and i close that and it directs me again to some webpage. Once those are done i can then exit it free of popups for awhile. I also cant run my adaware anymore cuz it says it runs into an error in the Windows Registry causing my computer to go to a blue screen with error.

Sometimes I simply get a blue screen with a moveable curor. When running a diagnostic I get "boot manager is corrupt or missing". I cannot run system restore. I have one 200gb hard drive, however when I run chkdsk, it calls the drive X & says there is only 3 gb there. One more thing, while booting I noticed the opportunity to go into the raid utility by pushing crtl N. I never put raid on my computer & there is no evidence of it in the boot consol. The computer is an HP Pavilion with an AMD Quad core processor runing windows 64, 6gb of ram, 200 gb hard drive. Hello boys and girls. About one year ago, my 500GB Western Digital MyBook hard drive died when I unplugged it from my motherboard. It lived a long life. It was time for it to die. I figured maybe a power surge killed it since I didn't "Safely remove the hardware". The computer it died on was built by myself. It was an Asus motherboard and a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit OS. I was convinced that my data was lost, so I bought a 500GB Toshiba Canvio portable USB drive in the color black. I plugged it into a rear USB 2.0 port. It was recognized for about three seconds, and then Windows displayed a yellow popup from the bottom right corner of the taskbar saying "The device has malfunctioned". A new hard drive? Come on. I brought it downstairs to my dads Vista machine, and it worked just fine. I scratched my head, and for kicks, I tried my "dead" MyBook on the same machine. It worked! I could see all my data!

After this, I figured it was a bad motherboard. Since none of the ports on the computer were working with it. (Mind you, mice, flashdrives, printers, keyboards, hubs, etc. were all functioning fine on the system). It was ONLY mass storage USB devices that were not working. I waited about a year and built a new computer. New EVERYTHING. Windows 7 OS, Asus motherboard, and all that good stuff. I was so excited to finally be able to use my USB hard drive again. I missed my data. But... It didn't work. It makes the usb "Bee-boop" but will no... Read more

Hello,

First i'm french, so sorry for my bad words or setences.

I use a acer computer with vista sp1. I've got 3 parts on my hdd.
That is to say an eisa part for recovery, second part C: for vista premium and a third one for datas.

I've downloaded seven on the microsoft website and burn it with nero 7 and imagburn.

Noone works correctly, the best is that one i've burned with imagburn. speed 2.4 on an rw and 4 with an r

Each time i try to install seven, i've got the install page, i press "' install now"', and i received that beautifull message ..

"' windows couldt not collect information ( for os image ) in the specefied image files ( install.wim ) does not exist "'

I've checked my iso disc and the "' install.wim "' really exist on the dvd.

An other detail, each time after pressing "' install now "' and before the beautiful message my floppy tries to run.

If you have ideas or tips, they are welcome.

Sincerely yours,
Labougie,

A:impossible instal of seven

It is probably your installation media causing the problem..

This happens when it cannot verify the install.wim image on the DVD.

Try changing DVD discs brand, or using an external DVD rom drive. Perhaps yours is failing. If anything else fails, try installing from a USB stick.

I'm done, I have troubleshooted my PC thousand times just trying to solve it.

Here my specs:
Intel core 2 duo E4600 @2.4 GHz

4GB of DDR2 Ram(not buffered)

DELL P301D Motherboard For the Vostro 220s System (Is one of those motherboard which just handles core2duo and below cpus

XFX 4GB R9 380

Logysis 550w power supply

Dell Vostro 200 Bios 1.0.16

Windows 8.1 Pro (Not original)

Alright, so my problem basically is that my on my r9 380 which is not DEAD doesn t display at all on the monitor, but on board graphics are just fine, here is the list of things that I've tried already:

Reset CMOS
Change form VGA to HDMI and DVI
Tried 3 different monitors
Tried the graphics card on another setup
Tested EVERY SINGLE COMPONENT BESIDES THE GRAPHICS CARD and they all work fine
Tested display cables, they all work
Tried my old gt 740 And it worked fine on the board (SO NO PCI-E x16 Express problems)
Cleared all AMD/NVIDIA DRIVERS
Disabled On board graphics
Make pci express principal display
Make sure all cables were tight up and worked correctly
Graphics card receiving enough power
PSU working on others pc
Ram, all fans, cpu, everything good.

Another thing that is interesting is that I connected 2 display ports (1 connected to the graphics card and one to the board) Guess what my motherboard actually detects my gpu but obviously shows up the dell unsupported video configuration

This is going to be a long post. I'll start from the beginning.

Windows 7 (64 bit premium) came to my door today. I put it in my disc, logged on to my windows xp account. A pop up came up saying, "close any programs still on xp". So i googled how to do that, and it said to wipe my fdisk. I opened the console and did so, but that it didn't know if it was an external or internal command. So i googled another way to do it, and it get compmgmt.msc as a command to enter into my start>run thingy. I do that, and i go to disk management. Then i went to format, and hit the start button (not on the bottom of the screen, the little pop up window from format). Then it tells me i need to go to safe mode. I did, and went to the command prompt safe mode. I typed in fdisk, but got the same message as before. I hit restart, and went into regular safe mode. The other places i read about said to do it in administrator. The administrator had never been there before, and had just popped up. I hit enter on the password to see if it would go, but it wouldnt. so i hit restart, but this time windows 7 started up instead. Then i got stuck and froze my computer, so i restarted again. Then this message popped up before i get to the loading screen:

windows could not start becasue the following file is missing or corrupt: <windows root>\system\hal.dll.
please reinstall the above file.
now i've lost the windows xp disk, and many other websites have told me to just :re... Read more

A:impossible to get from windows xp to 7

You can't start setup from Windows. And you can't format the drive from which you are running Windows, any more than you can dig a hole in the ground you are standing on. You need to boot from the DVD and then remove the partitions when you have the option. After that, just follow the prompts.

There is no "fdisk" in Windows since around 10 years ago and it shouldn't be used on modern systems. Partitioning and formatting are part of setup. There are no messages from Windows 7 setup that mention fdisk, ever.

My hard drive failed a few months back, turned it on one day and got a series of clicks and chirp sounds and it was dead. I tried a couple things suggested on here but none of them helped and ended up installing windows on a new drive. I recently found an indentical model number to the one I have on ebay(a Hitachi Deskstar for a Dell). When I receive it, I'll plug it in to make sure it works, then i'm going to attempt a disk swap between the two. I had to find a funky size torx bit for the outer screws and now I see the disk is attached with another torx that is a bit smaller so i'll need one of those too. I know this should be done in a clean room and even then it's supposed to be a hit or miss and it's likely not to work. I figured i'd give it a shot for the $28 it costs for the new drive with shipping. Am I wasting my time or do I have a slim chance of being successful? And no, I hadn't made any backups from that drive, partly because of the crappy NEW Pioneer dvd-r drive I had returned just before this happened(a couple others posted issues in this forum regarding that model also around the same time I did).

I was recently trying to download a file on a trusted site (I'd used the site before without any problems). I found this program called optimizer pro on my desktop, so I deleted and uninstalled the program. A couple days afterwards, I see my computer running super slowly and an Optimizer Pro pop-up appears. I go to uninstall it again, and it says the un-installation files are missing. I go download optimizer pro again for the un-installation files and my computer doesn't complete the download. It says -Network Error-, So I go look up a solution on google chrome and all it says is "Try Again Later". So I'm stuck with Optimizer pro which seemingly slows down my PC, and I can't download anything to get it off of my computer because of the constant network error. So I thought maybe there was a solution inside the OS that someone on here knows about.color=#000099]Edit: Moved topic from Windows 7 to the more appropriate forum, as suggested by Staff. This morning, while attempting to move some files around my Windows 7 64bit laptop began telling me that I didn't have permission to do so, as I needed permission from the "TrustedInstaller". I googled this issue and resolved it by configuring permissions.

Feeling a little suspicious I decided to run Malwarebytes. As I attempted to install it, when asked what language I wanted - the program defaults to "Bosanski". Being that I work in IT and have cleaned hundreds of machines I installed it anyway and was able to blindly walk my way through it and run a scan. It came back clean.

I then went to "Region and Language" in the Control Panel and once I got in there, all the values started scrolling around madly until it settled on "Afrikaans (South Africa).

I then went to download Speccy, as to give you a screenshot of my system specs and the installer did the same thing. It chose the "Portuguese" language. I then tried to download some other programs and they all did the same thing.

Another bug that is happening is that when I attempt to move any files, Windows will not allow me to scroll down...it locks onto "My Documents" and then if I scroll down and choose a different directory...it immediately scrolls back up to My Documents.

I'm at my wits end with this, as googling as brought me nothing. One thread came close to what I was describing but it had no resolution. And most of the things from his log appear identi... Read more

A:Nearly Impossible To Describe, But I'll Try

Trustedinstaller *belongs* to the operating system and should not be moved or modified in any way. Also, keep in mind, just because you scanned with MBAM and came up clean, doesn't mean that your system, is in fact, clean. It sure sounds like malware, or some kind of virus, to me. If you have an installed AV, run a full system scan. Perhaps you could try restoring to a point before you had issues. I don't believe Trustedinstaller would have anything to do with the language issues that you are experiencing.

I'm having real problems with this and the guides online cover different parts but don't work.
1. I have windows xp
2. I want to install windows 7 64 bit
3. I do not have a dvd, it's on an external HDD
4. I want to instal windows 7 on a 2nd HDD and dual boot.

My first problem is that I get the 'We are unable to create or save new files in the folder which the application was downloaded'. Apparently this is because its 64 bit and I'm in XP. I need to boot from the USB drive and load the windows disk from there? Is that right? How do I do that without my normal XP booting? Can I boot from the USB and install on to the 2nd HHD?

A step by step approach would be amazing if someone could talk me through it? If it's not possible I can buy a blank dvd and burn it and remove my other HDDs, but that's a real pain.

Any help would be great
