I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Dell Vostro 5470 Not getting Dell Logo after bios upgrade in Windows 10

Yes. I did it.
Laptop have Phoenix bios.
Phoenix Bios have has restored procedure from USB Flash.
This steps to restore BIOS:
1.Get USB flash below 4Gb.
2.Format it to FAT.
3.Get your flash update from Dell Store - xxxx.exe
4.Run cmd.exe and in command prompt run xxxx.exe /writehdrfile
5.Copy extracted Bios.cap to flash drive.
6.Turn off laptop.
Next step 7,8 may be not needed but I did it.
7.Disconnected all perihpericals including battery and charger.
8.Disconnect HDD
9.Plugged the usb drive on the laptop at the right side.
10.Hold END key
11,Pluged the powercord and relase the END key 1 second after the power cord is in.
12.USB led on stick blinked fast and we see Bios Recovery Process on screen.
13.After finish notebook reboots and worked fine.

Hello,
I have a dell vostro 5470 and I feel like my HDD is so slow. So I want to upgrade my disk but I'm not sure what can be the best solution for me. As far as I know I have an extra msata half size slot which is not used.
Can I use these M.2 ssds? As an example:
Or some people say it is possible to plug a msata ssd even if the slot is half size.
Or should I go with typical SSD by replacing my HDD? Something like samsung evo 850

Many thanks,

A:Dell Vostro 5470 S21F45C

If you did MSATA you would have to make sure its only half sized.  The MSATA drive could just be a caching drive.  Your safest bet would probably just replace the HDD with an SSD like the EVO 850 you mentioned.

Hello there,
I'm about to Upgrade my DELL VOSTRO 5470's 4GB RAM to 8GB RAM. Therefor, I would love to ask a question about RAM. Is it that important to buy necessarily the RAM from dell website which was DELL sticker? For instance, I found another cheaper and seemingly very good and reasonable RAM's from Crucial and This another one entitled "DMS Certified RAM"..
So would those RAM's work fine? are they suitable and fully compatible? or I definitely have the one sole choice to by 95 Euro priced RAM on DELL Website?  I think that's pretty expensive..

Thanks a lot!

You don't need to purchase RAM from Dell, but you should ask your vendor about compatibility guarantees (or understand the possible return/restocking fees if they don't offer a guarantee).

Hello,
Perhaps anyone could advise what to do.
Just noticed that my laptop isn't charging, checked the charger and cable - and strangely, it's the following. After I unplug the charger for a few seconds, and plug back in - LED lights up in green, as usual, but after a few seconds it fades and doesn't come back up. No charging happening either.
If it were fully broken somehow, I'd expect it to be completely "dead", so maybe this is something that could be remedied? Any suggestions?

Hello, I've formatted the computer 3 times to solve the non shutting down issue, so I'm starting to believe is somehow hardware related.
I was using Windows Insider Preview (fast ring) and then (slow ring). Last December, the laptop stop shutting down completely. It starts the process, video is black, no sign of disk activity but the on/off light start on and the fans are running. Only way is to hard power off with the button.
Reinstalling Windows from scratch solves at first boots, but then start failing again. I've moved to slow ring of Windows Insider. No luck. Then for the Windows 10 Pro that I'm running now.
All updates from Windows and from Dell Detect System were applied successfully. I've tried to run Intel Update tool. It detects the network driver could be updated, download and applied successfully, but no luck, the computer does not sleep completely nor hibernate.
I've tried disabling Hybrid sleep mode. I've tried to disable Hibernation all over (powercfg.exe /hibernate off) without working.
All seems well with the computer, excepts the shutting down process.
Can anybody help me? Thanks.

Hi all, So few days ago I have noticed that my Dell Vostro 5470 not charging. It says plugged in, not charging. And sadly it is 0%, so I can't really drain the power, as I've read in some forums. As well, Vostro battery is not portable, that makes things even worse.
As I have noticed, the error accured after one of Windows update (I currently have Windows 10). Before I closed it (sleep) and left it for sometime running on low battery, so still don't know what what the real issue. I ran Dell Service test  (40min.), which said all is fine - battery is good. Hi,

Have anyone of you experiencing issues with your Dell vostro 5470 with window 10? I was upgraded free from W8.1 to W10 till last 3 weeks it caused issue where fan kept spinning even after the OS has shut down completely. Done so many diagnosis but still the same. So Dell wanted me to downgrade it back to W8.1
But after, I tried so many times to upgrade it back to window 10, it downloaded the OS, and installed but when it's installed updated for about 25% and restarted the PC for further update, it got stuck at the Dell boot up logo and stays there forever.
Have anyone facing the same issue? When I checked on Dell website, it seems like Vostro 5470 was left behind from testing the drivers for window 10 latest update!! W8.1 such a pain actually.
Can anyone suggest anything?

Hello;
I have a problem with my Vostro 5470. I wanted to upgrade the current ram from 4 gb to 8 gb so I opened the machine in order to check which RAM I have in order to buy a similar one and to check if I had 2 or 1 slot for a RAM. I took out the ram and the put it back again. Assembled the machine but when I tried to turn it again it didn't turn on.
The computer is dead. When I press the power button the battery led blinks solid once for about 1 ot 2 seconds and then nothing happens. I did some search and already tried removing the battery connector and removing the CMOS battery too, but the same thing keeps happening.
Here is a video of how it behaves; https://youtu.be/ro6KX_vF85Q
Could it be that I killed the MOBO when I removed the ram?
Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

Can I connect another external display in my laptop USB3.0 port using Dell Adapter - USB 3.0 to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB 2.0?

Hi MATHEUS SERPA,
What is the current OS installed on the system?
I have checked and could not find a Dell Adapter compatible with your specific system model. However, these two are known to work with other Vostro models and it might or might not work on your machine. You probably need to try it out and let us know - http://dell.to/1Y9DDqo
Or if you are looking only to duplicate the display, you could get a HDMI splitter - usually priced under $10.
Also, write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Thanks for the post. You may be able to add a boot device manually to resolve this issue. Secure boot will need to be disabled and the USB or optical drive added to the boot options in BIOS manually under ‘Boot’. Check out the following guide for more information:

Hello, I'm time trying to solve the Error 43 problem of off-board nvidia card.
So far I've been through 4 Dell support technicians, have ran numerous websites and forums looking for solution and nothing.
Have tested Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10, all x86 and x64.
I also tested the BIOS A09 A10 A11 and A12. It was on the A9 that the board took that breath does not appear the error 43 and was with Windows 8.1 x64, but even not showing error on the card, the Nvidia manager not detect the card, so could not use it. (Not recommend staying changing BIOS, I ventured to do so is dangerous and can damage your notebook permanently)
There are several people in forums and such talking about the same problem, the vast majority managed to solve only updating the BIOS or by downgrading the A12 to A11 or A10. For me no solution worked.
I wonder if anyone has any definitive solution to this persistent problem ...

Thank you!

It is a Dell Vostro 200 running Windows XP Home Edition 32-bit with SP3, originally came with SP2. I have been having this issue for a few months now and I can't seem to find any topics related to my specific issue, it took me by surprise one day because its never done this before and I think this all started in the past three months of last year. When I press the power button it will start to boot up but then the power light will turn amber and it will completely shut off but then it starts up again, it does this a total of two times and then by the third time it will boot up and beep once, then I can access my desktop and it all works fine. But when I restart, it will do the same exact thing but only once, and then boots up but won't beep. I know its not over heating because I clean it well with compressed air and check it with Speccy, it also doesn't restart suddenly while I'm using it. I don't know what could be causing this, if it was one of the speakers that fell on the tower and knocked something loose or the power cord is going bad. I'm not a computer expert, I know a few things here and there but I've never worked inside of one, this isn't so much a problem as it is a nuisance, its just frustrating that I can't find any topic about it.

I'm writing this post from my iPod. My Dell vostro 1510 will not boot any longer. I have been having problems with random black/random lines on screen requiring a forced shutdown. My battery has also been having problems for a long time. Now when I press the power button I hear the standard noise (hard drive?) and the hard drive icon lights up, afterwards the drive icon disappears, the num lock icon is blinking and the caps lock/scroll lock icons are solid. Nothing shows up (no bios). My research concluded that this is possibly a motherboard problem. I already tried removing the battery, unplugging he laptop and holding the power button (suggested on a couple of forums).

EDIT: I got the laptop to boot. I haven't done anything to the computer yet but I am backing up immediately since I was able to boot to Windows.

What's the error message on the blue screen?

Do you have restore/recovery CD?

You have a Microsoft XP SP2 CD? Or do you have a disk provided by Dell for installing XP SP2?

Attempting to use CDs which were made for other systems...will usually prove unsatisfactory.

Hi, I previously had problems with my Vostro 430, almost all the parts have now been replaced by Dell under warranty including the motherboard.

Once booted the machine is finally stable; but it has developed a new problem.
Upon start up I see the Broadcom NetXtreme Ethernet Boot Agent launch; it then gives an error; see here: YouTube - Dell Vostro 430 Boot Error
If I have any USB hard drives connected it does not pass the error screen and just blinks a cursor.

From what I can tell it appears to be trying to boot from the Network.
Thing is, I have disabled booting from the network in the boot sequence, I even tried disabling the network card all together.

I looked into it a bit more and found out about the Intel Boot Agent; this is apparently another BIOS setting (or another BIOS all together?) for network booting; I found this page: http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/cs-008018.htm which talks about disabling the boot agent (I think this is what is making the Broadcom Boot Agent launch?). The page tells you how to disable the Boot Agent but the only way to do it is by using DOS. I tried booting into the DOS prompt but when I try to run the bootutil.exe it tells me it doesn't work in 64bit mode.

So I'm not sure if I need to run the Intel tool and if this will solve the problem or if there's some other way I can fix this?

On the plus side once booted it's finally stable, the downside is I can't boot from USB or even have the drives connected if I want to r... Read more

Dell Vostro A860

As soon as I install the battery, the screen with flash gray very quickly, then be black for about a second, then will display a gray screen (lighter gray to the right, and darker to the left, sometimes it flickers a good bit). This is before I press any buttons to try to start the computer. And, once the screen is gray, the computer will not respond to the on/off button (computer will not start). It makes no difference if the power cord is plugged in or not.

If I remove the battery and insert the power cord, the screen will also flash gray very quickly, the battery light will be lit for about 1 second, and then the screen will go gray (same as before). And, as before, computer will not start. No fans run, nothing but a gray screen.

But, I found out if I hit the power button after that first flash and while the screen is black, the computer will start like normal. (I'm writing this from the computer). If I shut down the computer, as soon as it is shut down (fans are off) the gray screen returns and the computer is no longer responsive.

While the computer is running the display seems fine, no troubles. It's a slow old computer, but seems to work fine otherwise.

I think someone replaced the display a couple months ago along with the keyboard and DVD drive.

I have a Vostro 1500. When you turn the power button on, you see the Dell logo and then the screen goes black. You can tell the lcd is on, just nothing on it.

I hit F12 and tried to boot to a windows cd, and it recognizes the windows cd and hit and key to boot to cd. When I do it goes starts to load , and about 15 seconds later, everything goes black, cd stop spinning , but power stays on. No fan etc.

Same results when hooked to external monitor.

I also can boot to the Dell diagnostics and ran everything and everything passed except the battery health. It will run the diagnostics fine, for hours, everything passes. But when you try to load windows or boot to cd, no go.

I can get in the bios fine.

I have tried this with the battery in and battery out. Same results both ways. The diagnostics did say the battery was bad, but it is the same reults even when the battery is not installed and I am running on adapter.

Motherboard maybe ? Motherboard diagnostics passed also . I just don't know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Shut it down and remove AC power and the battery, then remove the cmos battery for 15 minutes, reinstall the cmos battery, big battery, and connect it to AC power, turn it on and enter the bios and set the date and time, save changes on exit, then see if it will boot into windows, if it does, update the bios immediately.

I am thinking about getting a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop with Vista Home Premium installed. However, I must be able to dual boot Win XP. I know that the model supports XP, as it is an option on purchase. I have my own copy of Win XP Home with SP2 that I can install.

From what I can gather, Dell DOES ship a true reinstall DVD for Vista, yes?

Since Windows likes to have the oldest version installed first on a dual boot configuration, then I would need to wipe the HD and break down any preexisting partitions. What parititions exist from the factory? I would imagine there is a restore partiton...should I leave it alone?

Once the HD is wiped, then I would need to install XP, but I have learned that since XP does not have SATA drivers, would need to either slipstream them into an XP CD (I have never done this) or could a person use an external USB floppy drive to load the SATA drivers?

After this hurdle, it should be a breeze, yes? Create an XP partition, install into that partition, pop in the Vista DVD, boot, and let it do its thing in the remaining space?

Also, does this monkeying around affect that MediaDirect feature? Is it a partition that needs to stay where it is?

I just want to know what I would be looking at for difficulty before I make my decision.

Are there any CLEAR, step by step instructions out there that anyone knows about?
Thanks

PK

Hi all,

One of my Dell systems took a dive (no power, etc.) so I pulled out the hard drive and hooked it up to this Dell Vostro 260 so the person could have access to their files. I've checked the BIOS to boot from it, but nope, doesn't work. The system goes black, little cursor for a moment then asks me if I want to run repair to start normally. I've tried repair and normally but still can't boot from this external. The system does see it, so I'm really not sure what to do. Someone help, please?

Thanks in advance.

A friend gave me a Dell Vostro 2510, he replaced. He said it didn't work, he thought it was a hard drive failure or motherboard fried, but he replaced it and gave it to me with the words, If you can fix it, it's yours...

I have spent hours reading forums, at Dell and Microsoft, and trying to recall the old DOS commands I learned years ago, etc... I have the factory disc's that came with the machine. When I try to re-install or repair the Vista Business OS 32 bit, it gets as far as "Load Drivers - insert disc" and then it just stalls there. The progress bar bar keeps "moving" but the machine just stays there at that window and does nothing. I finally stumbled onto the command prompt from there. When I move up in directories, I get to "X" drive. When I run a dir on that, it lists a dir that looks like a Windows OS directory but here I can't seem to do much. I can see 2 drives I think "root" directories ".." and "..." (am not at the machine right now, but as I recall, in every DOS system structure there are two directories listed as "." or "..") etc..? Then a dir for Windows. In Windows there is what looks like all the files you would expect to find. I haven't itemized the list yet... I asked him later and he finally confessed that he did a reinstall, screwed it up, he reformatted the disc, installed the OS in one partition, seems he used it for awhile then he said it &quo... I think I'd just contact either the person who gave it to you...or Dell...for the appropriate disks...or replacements.

I have a Vostro 400. It halts on the Dell black and white splash screen (F2 and F12 in the upper right corner). Pressing the F2 or F12 keys have no effect. This last time (today) that it happened, I let it sit powered up and it is now on a black/white screen that says Windows is loading files and appears to have stopped. Most recent hardware is a new Cannon printer, installed maybe 2 months ago and the Vostro ran fine until maybe 2 weeks ago. I have not checked the power supply yet, but I have replaced the battery to no effect. I've tried booting from CD but the machine doesn't seem to be getting to that point.

Suggestions?
