T580 FHD screen and battery questions

Q: T580 FHD screen and battery questions

HelloWould anyone please be able to help with some t580 questions? 1) I wanted to know what the FHD (not UHD) screen is like especially in terms of sRGB, adobeRGB and PWM? If not, are there any comparisons to the T570 FHD screen? 2) the laptop comes with 4 cell 32wh front battery. The rear battery configurations seem to be- 6 cell 48wh- 3 cell 24wh- 6 cell li-ion 72wh cylindrical Is the front battery removable? Also the 6 cell 48wh option seems to be cheaper than the 3 cell 24wh - anyone know why this is? The front battery still remains with all of these combinations doesn't it? Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I was a bit confused about the T580 dual battery setup and charge status. Without thinking about it, I ran the battery reset on the main battery. I didn't realize this is a very lengthy process. This is a brand new laptop so I probbaly did not need to do a reset on the battery. Since I started the reset on the main, do I have to run the reset on the removable battery as well? Will this casue any damage to a brand new battery. I just want to let the main reset complete and be done with it.

Hello, sorry for posting these basic questions but I've done some research and I want to make sure that I make the right decision when buying a new T580. I've been out of the loop in tech for a few years now, and I'm just learning now about hardware BIOS whitelists, etc. I want to buy the most basic T580 model and make sure I can upgrade certain components later on when I have the money available to do so.  1) Can I upgrade the basic model with the i5-8250u / 4GB RAM to 16GB of RAM later on? PSREF says yes, up to 32GB, and I've watched videos that say there are two slots for RAM available. Just want to make sure there is not any limitation and that I can upgrade later on to at least 16GB. 2)I already have a Samsung SSD - SATA III 2.5 inch. Since this model has a 2.5 drive I assume I can replace it with mine. But am I limiting myself in anyway for future updates if I don't get one of the NVME drives now? 3) I would possibly like to get the WWAN card later on. Is it possible to buy and add one later on?  4) Will this computer run dual 4k external monitors, should I ever get them?  Since money is very tight, my only priority right now would be to get the stuff I cannot add later on (3840 x 2160 screen, possibly graphics card but would have to bump up to 8350u).  Thanks!

Hello,I'm interested in buying a T580 thinkpad and got some questions: 1. does the 4K display consumes more battery power than the FHD display? 2. for those customers with 4k display - are you satisfied with that choice? (are the fonts readable)2. in reality, how long does the battery last with standard use? (with all types of rear batteries)?3. how is your overall impression of this model? Thanks, Johnny

Hello everyone,I would like to take advantage of the current sale on T line (since I kind of need the laptop ASAP). Hence all the questions: 1. I am planning to get the UHD screen. Some places reference it as 100% AdobeRGB while the shopping page just says 400 nit. How accurate are the colors, really? I do some photography editing on the go, so this would be a great thing to have. 2. Speaking of UHD screen - how big of a power drain should I expect? I plan on getting smallest batteries to minimize the weight and then purchasing an extra batter (probably the large one) to supplement for cases when I'll be away from power outlets for extended periods. Any recommendations here would be great. 3. Upgradability - I want to order the cheapest HDD because instead $200 that Lenovo is asking for 256GB NVMe drive I can buy a 500GB 970 @ $140 or 1 TB @ $277. If ordered with regular (spin) disk - do I have a hardware present to use NVMe HDD? Or do I need to order additional cable? 4. Temperatures - how hot does it get under heavy loads? Thanks in advance for responses.

I'm about to order a T580 today and I see there is a choice of "6cell Battery 48Wh Rear" and "3cell Battery 24Wh Rear". Does anyone own the 48Wh battery for the T580 (or T570) so that they can confirm if the 48Wh batter sticks out at all? I want a battery that does not raise the laptop. Also where can I buy a second (spare) battery that is exactly the same as the "6cell Battery 48Wh Rear" and "3cell Battery 24Wh Rear"? Thanks in advance. I'm using Lenovo ThinkPad T580 and would like to connect eGPU Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 550 with GTX970. When I connect Thunderbolt 3 cable to upper USB-C socket I get error "Thunderbolt device functionality might be limited" I was not able to find any useful information about this issue. So I connected Thunderbolt 3 cable to USB-C socket which is used by docking station. It works fine I was able to install nvidia drivers, but it works perfectly only during the time when battery is charging. When battery is fully charged egpu starts to disconnect/connect all the time. The screenshot shows last moments before it goes through endless disconnect/connect cycles. This eGPU works absolutely fine with my other laptop Dell XPS13 (whether it's fully charged or not) I updated BIOS and already tried different Thunderbolt 3 settings in BIOS. Is there a way to fix this issue?

My T580 won't wake from sleep mode if I close the lid, press the power button, or tell Windows to enter sleep mode. The power button and lid lights pulse like they do when in sleep mode, but I can still toggle the mute/caps lock/num lock/backlight lights on my keyboard. The fan is usually at full speed too. In order to get the laptop to turn on, I have to either use the reset button on the back, or hold the power button for 20 seconds. I haven't observed the issue while the laptop is plugged in. I can't afford to lose any work that I have open, or wait for all my programs to load, but I've never enountered this behaviour so I can't fix it. If it's a Windows 10 issuse, then I have to re-install the OS. I'd like to avoid doing that if the issue is with the laptop. What do I do?

My fairly new (purchased in August 2018) ThinkPad T580 screen is black, when the display is opened completely I can see the display ever so faintly.  I have gone through every step possible to fix.  When I connect to an external display I'm able to view on external display and laptop display stays black/extremely dark.  Does not light up at all at any time.  I have check display options, check for driver updates, ran updates, did the whole power thing and hold the fn+f6 or just the f6, and I'm told the connector is connected properly.  Do I need a new motherboard, connector to display, new display, or what is necessary to get this fixed?  Was working completely fine, I went and closed the display and reopened 5 minutes later and the display never came back up.  Help!

I bought a T580 with the 4K screen in June 27. Right after I received the laptop I had to leave for work in another country. About 3-4 days after leaving the country I noticed that there are a couple of defects on the screen. But the worst one is right on the address bar, which is really annoying. See the image below (sorry for the quality, that's the best I could do). They're like a dark "stain" right below the surface of the screen. I've tried to overlook this, but you know how it works, you can't "unsee" it and it's really sad that a brand new laptop would have these defects right on the screen.  What are my options with this? I bought the laptop in the US, but I'm not so sure if this can be fixed where I am now (Venezuela).  I'm going to the US for a week in December, but:I don't know if this can still be fixed under warrantyIf this can get fixed in under a week.

Hello.  I've had this laptop for about two weeks and the screen is quite dim.  I've manually changed the brightness to the max level and it isn't very bright.  I've google this problem many times and have tried a lot of things, but nothing has worked.  One of the key things that I've discovered is that this laptop don't seem to have an ambient light sensor....is that correct?  If it did have, I think I would like to turn it off.  But I can't verify that I even have such a sensor. Any tips are very much appreciated.  Thank you.

We just bought over 1000 Lenovo T580 laptops with Windows 10 1803. During the testing of our image we experienced no login issues. We had our image applied in the Lenovo factory before shipping. After deployment of the first 100 or so we started getting calls about a black screen after login that lasts for 15-30 minutes. Along with the black screen issue there is an overall slowness that wasnt there previously. Browsers and file explorer take a long time to open and Office 365 apps, especially Word take a long time to launch. The first login seems to be ok but every login after that takes an extraordinary amount of time. I saw a post about the T480 that recommended killing the Intel 620 graphics driver in safe mode and rebooting. This seems to be a temporary fix. We then used system update to update all critical and recommended updates (20+), including a graphics driver update and a usb c dock driver and firmware update. The machine immediately starts to run better but I dont know if this is a permanent fix. I've had a couple people already report the black screen again after recieving the updates. Any idea what it could be?

A:Battery questions!~!

Duh, the word cell doesn't mean much.

Basically it is what is the output voltage? Will it fit into any size restrictions and what type connector is required?

In general you don't buy a battery for most hi-tech gear unless it says it is suitable for that particular make / model / brand unit that you have. Lots of ways to get into trouble.

You can search around and see if there is any type of upgrade battery pak for your particular model computer.

Hi everybody! (in my best Dr. Nick voice)

My mother, in her infinite wisdom, decided to purchase a Toshiba Satellite 2800 laptop on Ebay. What she didn't read was that the laptop doesn't work with the ac adapter (they have tried it with two different adapters, evidently they think it's th AC port that is messed up). I don't have any knowledge of laptops so I am seeking advice.

So, the options I think we can take are:

1) Get the AC port fixed. Is this possible? How much does repair like this usually run? Is this something that we will have to send in to Toshiba or can most CPU repair stores do something like this?

2) Get a battery and run it solely on this. I have searched on Ebay for a Li-Ion batteries, but one thing that has occurred to me is this--do normally these batteries come with a charger, or is that something that generally needs to be purchased separately? If this is our only option, do most people get an extra battery? And-if we have to purchase a charger, what do most cost?

What we are ultimately getting at is if the cost of repair/accessories is exorbitant, we will just cut our losses and relist this to sell and find something else. Any help is appreciated. Thanks all!!!!

2)

A:Laptop Battery Questions

Well, the internal power circuit seems to be at fault, and that's not a job for an amateur, so I'd suspect that Toshiba will have to fix it. It's going to cost several hundred at least, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was somewhat more.

As far as running on battery, the battery is normally charged in the laptop, so you still have the same problem.

I recommend you cut your losses and relist the thing. I just bought a new laptop for $800, and now I see the same one with wireless capability for $750! There's really no point in buying laptops used at this point in time...

Lately when I plug in my computer it goes back and forth between charging and not charging every few seconds. This last for and and hour or two once I start the computer and a few minutes every few hours throughtout the day. I was just wondering if any harm can be done to my computer if I keep this battery in my computer? Also, if while having this battery in my computer as well as it going back and forth between charging and not charging, will that cause harm when I download music files? Will the music files properly download? And if I connect my ipod to the computer via USB will it be safe to do so and will there be any sort of unsafe electrical current going through the computer causing harm to the ipod or its files?

I am still puzzled by how this laptop handles battery charging/ power management etc. I have a Yoga 730 , Win 10. First I noticed that it would be plugged in and not charging at 95% and I understand this is a Windows 10 thing from my last post on this. So fine, it would go from 95% to 100% back and forth no problem everything good for the last month. Now the charge has dropped to 89% and it says "plugged in, charging" but it has been like that for days and does not increase the charge. The light next to the charging port stays amber colored. I checked all my power management settings. I do not have it on battery save option and the slider is set to "better performance". No indication anywhere that there is a problem. All drivers, everything, is properly updated. So maybe this is just how it is and not to stress out out about it, although it's weird and I have never seen this in a laptop before, but I have seen posts where this same thing has happened and it is actually a hardware problem. So while this laptop is only a couple of months old I just want to make sure before warranty expires. Thanks

I need to replace the battery in my P-6301 Gateway Notebook. Any website recommendations?

By going to the Gateway website I was directed to four vendors selling replacement batteries. The cheapest of the four is at http://www.mundocorp.com.

For my notebook there are two choices, a 6 cell LI-ION battery for $64.00 or a 9 cell LI-ION battery for $114.00. In previous research I believe I found that the original battery was a 6 cell.

Do I need to replace the battery with the 6 cell battery only, or do I have the option of buying the 9 cell to give me more power?

Thanks for your help.

Hi!

I have a Acer Aspire 7735ZG laptop. It is some years old now, but still runs without any issues - except for a battery issue. It doesn't charge, and is constantly on 0 %. Apart from that it works perfect!

1. I have always used it with AC plugged in. Never have I used the laptop in "battery mode". So in theory, my battery should be unused and therefor perfect - correct?

2. I've read that some people fixed their problem with the battery not charging (and other issues) simply by turning the laptop off; removing the battery and finally pushing the POWER-ON button for 5-10 seconds. The problem was something with residual charge. Is this operation 100% safe for my laptop? Can I lose my files or hurt any hardware by doing this? If not, I might try this.
If you cannot help me, thanks for taking the time to read.

Wrong, that's the best way to kill a battery. They have limited charge and recharge cycles and they do best when used. But batteries are not things that last forever and if they are not used then they need to be stored in a dry and cool place to extend their useful life.

That said, many Acer's have horrible batteries that simply die no matter how they are used or taken care off.

It can work, and free to try, so definitely worth a shot. And yes it's 100% safe. The battery has zero part in holding your data which is stored on a magnetic disk.

If you need a replacement battery there are tons of online retailers such as those on Amazon selling inexpensive replacements.

For my laptop, should I hibernate or standby?

Standby: it leaves the power light flashing
Hibernate: seems to turn off almost

Does one keep more power than the other?

Stanby is more convenient as when I open the laptop it turns on from there

If I got an extra battery, could I hibernate, and then swap batteries?
Actually: how would I charge a second battery without it being connected to a laptop?

Thanks!

Hi all, Quick question on battery replacements.. I have a T460s whose second battery recently showed it was having issues (on 46% of max charge available). I thought replacing the battery would be trivial but this is proving an exercise in futility. For reference the laptop type is: 20F9The battery in question is FRU: 01AV406 When I check this battery against the replacements site (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/partslookup), it indicates that the battery is out of stock. It also indicates that there are a few replacement options, 01AV407, 01AV408, 01AV405. All of which are also not in stock. After chatting with support on this issue, I was advised to call the parts department a partner - Encompass. Unfortunately, their department closes at 3pm PST which is pretty annoying. However when I search for the part (01AV406) on their website (https://lenovo.encompass.com), I'm left with an additional alternative 01AV462 (also out of stock but at least in stock 1/29). My question is, which of these sites to believe or are these all compatible? I find this a little absurd that this information is so unclear and annoying that Lenovo can't keep anything in stock.Double all that since I want to replace my primary battery as well (which will be back in stock on 3/10/19). Insert eye roll here. Any advice anyone can shed here would be apprciated or any other tips for getting these batteries replaced.

I would believe them on compatibility, but expected ship dates are always less reliable.  I always think that I only believe ship dates after parts actually ship.  My doubling ship dates is for all vendors, not just this one.

Hello, my T440p is now 4.5 years old and the battery wear level is at 63%. I'm about to buy a new battery and I'd appreciate your help with my 4 quesions: 1) My laptop is most of the time placed on the same spot and plugged in (I discharge it once a week to 25% and then plug it back in). Can I keep working with a degrading battery or can a worned out battery somehow damage my computer? 2) Because my laptops is more or less used like a desktop workstation, do I even need to have a battery inserted? Does it help in any way to protect the computer from power surges and power fluctuations? 3) My battery model is 45N1147 and has a 5200 mAh capacity. However, I'm about to upgrade the stock i5-4200M with i7-4810MQ (my computer also has a GeForce GT 730M graphics card). What kind of battery should I buy for the new configuration? 4) Is it worth buying a new original Lenovo battery (based on my situation) or would a quality 3rd party battery work just as good? Please help.  Thanks.

Hello
I recently purchased a new battery for my laptop. Its charging upto 92/93% and then the battery icon shows that 93 % available, plugged in, not charging like this..

so.. I have tried charging it for a very long hour to see if it exceeds 93%, but that didn't work. There is no such power plan option in my laptop which limits the charging percentage.
Note that this was the same issue with my first battery. And after using it for a while, it automatically started charging to 100%.
So, should I be worried?

Second question, I keep my laptop on for most of the time. So how should I discharge and recharge it while using it? Or should I just keep it plugged in for 24*7 since it doesn't charge beyond 93%? What should I do?(Note that my battery is hardwired, its inside the laptop, removing it requires disassembling the laptop)

Third question, My laptop battery wear level keeps changing(I checked it using almost all the softwares like HWinfo, HWmonitor). When I bought it, it was 1 %, then it went to 7%, after next reboot, it was 5%, and now its 9%)

I have what appears to be a msata and a m.2 slot. The msata has a Intel dual band wireless card in it. The slot to the left looks like a m.2 slot with nothing in it.  Will any 2242 ssd fit in it or does it have to be single sided. Also the laptop has no internal battery just a spacer. Is it possible to add a battery to this model? There is no 3rd m.2 slot under the internal battery spacer, can this be added to the t440? Laptop is the standard t440 (not the s or p)

Having just bought a ClickMini to replace my trusty Libretto 100 there are a couple of things that I hope other users or forum experts can help me with.

1) does anyone know how to TURN OFF tapping to click on the ALPS 'mouse pad'. Having been used to a 'nipple' and proper click bars this 'feature' does not work well for me, giving false activations more often than I would like. Note that I have looked at the pad properties in Control Panel and, it appears from this, that tapping either is not active (which it is) or that it cannot be changed. Note also that the ALPS driver is up-to-date having downloaded from the Toshibs website without effect on my problem.

2) how can I display the status of both the battery in the tablet section and that in the keyboard dock? Several folk refer to doing so, or seem to, in the threads below but I cannot find any way of doing so. Your help and advice will be valued.

Finally, although new to this forum and with a new machine, I am far from a Newbie in PC computing terms having bee using compurters in various guises since before the IBM PC was invented. So I am far from being inexperienced and unable to read between the lines of an instruction manual, indeed I have written many myself!

Hoping someone out there can help, yours aye

Go to the classic Windows desktop (not the modern Tile-GUI), locate the battery indicator in the task bar in the lower right corner, double click it to expand it and it shows the status of both batteries.

Hey everyone, just had a couple of questions regarding the High Performance settings for laptop batteries.

1.) To me, selecting the High performance settings is like overclocking your laptop. It probably isn't, but my question is : If I set my laptop battery settings to High Performance, will it wear down my laptop? (like overclocking)

2.) In your experience with High Performance, does your laptop make more fan noises? (since it IS on high performance, your laptop is working harder right?)

Thanks for taking a look!

A:Laptop/battery High Performance setting Questions

High Performance just means less power-saving, no reduced CPU clock speed, and longer or non-existent automatic shutdown of the screen or PC itself. It is the setting that wears the battery the fastest, but won't wear down your machine.

I can't figure out for the life of me if a t580 allows for FDE and how to make it work.  Forgive me if this has been asked before.  My machine is a 20L9001TUS type with a 1 TB hard drive.

Hi allJust wondering of users of this laptop, what their thoughts on it were? How's the screen (stats like sRGB, AdobeRGB etc. would be great)? How is the MX150 GPU? Any throttling during games? How are the thermals? Thanks in advance

Hi, I have a semi-related question: do you have advice for fitting M.2 SATA3 SSD into T580 2.5" bay? How to find the correct cable?

Hello again,
I have two questions for you guys.

First is a way that I can add coding to my program so it will check the resolution of the users screen and automatically size the windows for that screen setting. I use 1152 X 864 and was wondering if the program written in that screen size would prevent problems for any user with a smaller resolution.

Second, I have a simulation that when I right click on the screen, the area where I clicked will enlarge for that area, and when I right click again, it goes back to the original screen size. How is that done?

Thanks,

Bear

Just purchased T580 with UHD display and Intel UHD 620.  The default resolution is 4K (3840x2160).  When I go to display setting, I found no QHD with the correct aspect ratio (i.e. to get full screen on built-in display, I need 2560x1440 but the options I have are 2560x2048, 2560x1920 and 2560x1600). Anyone knows how solve this?  I tried Intel Graphics custom resolution but when I clicked "add", it did nothing.
