T580 FHD screen and battery questions

Q: T580 FHD screen and battery questions

HelloWould anyone please be able to help with some t580 questions? 1) I wanted to know what the FHD (not UHD) screen is like especially in terms of sRGB, adobeRGB and PWM? If not, are there any comparisons to the T570 FHD screen? 2) the laptop comes with 4 cell 32wh front battery. The rear battery configurations seem to be- 6 cell 48wh- 3 cell 24wh- 6 cell li-ion 72wh cylindrical Is the front battery removable? Also the 6 cell 48wh option seems to be cheaper than the 3 cell 24wh - anyone know why this is? The front battery still remains with all of these combinations doesn't it? Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, sorry for posting these basic questions but I've done some research and I want to make sure that I make the right decision when buying a new T580. I've been out of the loop in tech for a few years now, and I'm just learning now about hardware BIOS whitelists, etc. I want to buy the most basic T580 model and make sure I can upgrade certain components later on when I have the money available to do so.  1) Can I upgrade the basic model with the i5-8250u / 4GB RAM to 16GB of RAM later on? PSREF says yes, up to 32GB, and I've watched videos that say there are two slots for RAM available. Just want to make sure there is not any limitation and that I can upgrade later on to at least 16GB. 2)I already have a Samsung SSD - SATA III 2.5 inch. Since this model has a 2.5 drive I assume I can replace it with mine. But am I limiting myself in anyway for future updates if I don't get one of the NVME drives now? 3) I would possibly like to get the WWAN card later on. Is it possible to buy and add one later on?  4) Will this computer run dual 4k external monitors, should I ever get them?  Since money is very tight, my only priority right now would be to get the stuff I cannot add later on (3840 x 2160 screen, possibly graphics card but would have to bump up to 8350u).  Thanks!

Hello,I'm interested in buying a T580 thinkpad and got some questions: 1. does the 4K display consumes more battery power than the FHD display? 2. for those customers with 4k display - are you satisfied with that choice? (are the fonts readable)2. in reality, how long does the battery last with standard use? (with all types of rear batteries)?3. how is your overall impression of this model? Thanks, Johnny

I'm about to order a T580 today and I see there is a choice of "6cell Battery 48Wh Rear" and "3cell Battery 24Wh Rear". Does anyone own the 48Wh battery for the T580 (or T570) so that they can confirm if the 48Wh batter sticks out at all? I want a battery that does not raise the laptop. Also where can I buy a second (spare) battery that is exactly the same as the "6cell Battery 48Wh Rear" and "3cell Battery 24Wh Rear"? Thanks in advance. Brand new T580 (20L9) and feel like I have had batter problems from the start. I have updated all there is to update to try to solve the problem but now have hit a dead end. Battery 1 currently says 0% and not charging and does not recognize it anymore I think.  Where do I go from here? I have looked around and seen other models with similar problems but nothing seems to come to a clear conlcusion on how to solve this.

Brand new T580 here, bought to run Qubes OS.Played around with Windows 10 for a while, downloaded the Qubes iso, put it on the stick, etc, the usual routine.Tried to boot from it, without success.Entered BIOS, played around with various settings, among others disabling secure boot and I *think* setting some video related parameter from 256 to 512. Also changed to boot order to have the USB HDD boot second after Windows.Anyway, saved my settings, tried to boot and got a blank screen. The only things that light up by default are the power and the Esc/FnLock leds, nothing else. The computer responds to Ctrl-Alt-Delete by rebooting, again to a blank screen. All other LEDs such as CapsLock etc light up, USB ports provide power (tried to connect an Android phone and it started charging)So I tried holding power button for X amount of seconds, I tried the emegency-reset pin - nothing, still a blank screen on boot.I removed the back plate, tried to boot without RAM, tried resetting it and setting it in another slot.I tried removing the coin-button battery and the internal battery for about a minute, I tried to boot without the coin-button battery installed.I tried to connect the computer to an external screen via HDMI - still nothing. I do not have a Thunderbolt/USB3 capable monitor to test the other video output. Not sure what else I can try. Hi there,Does it show Lenovo boot welcome screen on poweron? If there is no even that and you tried already the BIOS clear It seems like the case for the service center. A:Battery questions!~!

Duh, the word cell doesn't mean much.

Basically it is what is the output voltage? Will it fit into any size restrictions and what type connector is required?

In general you don't buy a battery for most hi-tech gear unless it says it is suitable for that particular make / model / brand unit that you have. Lots of ways to get into trouble.

You can search around and see if there is any type of upgrade battery pak for your particular model computer.

Hi everybody! (in my best Dr. Nick voice)

My mother, in her infinite wisdom, decided to purchase a Toshiba Satellite 2800 laptop on Ebay. What she didn't read was that the laptop doesn't work with the ac adapter (they have tried it with two different adapters, evidently they think it's th AC port that is messed up). I don't have any knowledge of laptops so I am seeking advice.

So, the options I think we can take are:

1) Get the AC port fixed. Is this possible? How much does repair like this usually run? Is this something that we will have to send in to Toshiba or can most CPU repair stores do something like this?

2) Get a battery and run it solely on this. I have searched on Ebay for a Li-Ion batteries, but one thing that has occurred to me is this--do normally these batteries come with a charger, or is that something that generally needs to be purchased separately? If this is our only option, do most people get an extra battery? And-if we have to purchase a charger, what do most cost?

What we are ultimately getting at is if the cost of repair/accessories is exorbitant, we will just cut our losses and relist this to sell and find something else. Any help is appreciated. Thanks all!!!!

2)

A:Laptop Battery Questions

Well, the internal power circuit seems to be at fault, and that's not a job for an amateur, so I'd suspect that Toshiba will have to fix it. It's going to cost several hundred at least, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was somewhat more.

As far as running on battery, the battery is normally charged in the laptop, so you still have the same problem.

I recommend you cut your losses and relist the thing. I just bought a new laptop for $800, and now I see the same one with wireless capability for $750! There's really no point in buying laptops used at this point in time...

Lately when I plug in my computer it goes back and forth between charging and not charging every few seconds. This last for and and hour or two once I start the computer and a few minutes every few hours throughtout the day. When I tested the battery it said it has failed and needs to be replaced as soon as possible, however, my laptop is too old and the battery is no longer available. I was just wondering if any harm can be done to my computer if I keep this battery in my computer? Also, if while having this battery in my computer as well as it going back and forth between charging and not charging, will that cause harm when I download music files? Will the music files properly download? And if I connect my ipod to the computer via USB will it be safe to do so and will there be any sort of unsafe electrical current going through the computer causing harm to the ipod or its files?

I am still puzzled by how this laptop handles battery charging/ power management etc. I have a Yoga 730 , Win 10. First I noticed that it would be plugged in and not charging at 95% and I understand this is a Windows 10 thing from my last post on this. So fine, it would go from 95% to 100% back and forth no problem everything good for the last month. Now the charge has dropped to 89% and it says "plugged in, charging" but it has been like that for days and does not increase the charge. The light next to the charging port stays amber colored. I checked all my power management settings. I do not have it on battery save option and the slider is set to "better performance". No indication anywhere that there is a problem. All drivers, everything, is properly updated. So maybe this is just how it is and not to stress out out about it, although it's weird and I have never seen this in a laptop before, but I have seen posts where this same thing has happened and it is actually a hardware problem. So while this laptop is only a couple of months old I just want to make sure before warranty expires. Thanks

I need to replace the battery in my P-6301 Gateway Notebook. Any website recommendations?

By going to the Gateway website I was directed to four vendors selling replacement batteries. The cheapest of the four is at http://www.mundocorp.com.

For my notebook there are two choices, a 6 cell LI-ION battery for $64.00 or a 9 cell LI-ION battery for $114.00. In previous research I believe I found that the original battery was a 6 cell.

Do I need to replace the battery with the 6 cell battery only, or do I have the option of buying the 9 cell to give me more power?

Thanks for your help.

Hi!

I have a Acer Aspire 7735ZG laptop. It is some years old now, but still runs without any issues - except for a battery issue. It doesn't charge, and is constantly on 0 %. Apart from that it works perfect!

1. I have always used it with AC plugged in. Never have I used the laptop in "battery mode". So in theory, my battery should be unused and therefor perfect - correct?

2. I've read that some people fixed their problem with the battery not charging (and other issues) simply by turning the laptop off; removing the battery and finally pushing the POWER-ON button for 5-10 seconds. The problem was something with residual charge. Is this operation 100% safe for my laptop? Can I lose my files or hurt any hardware by doing this? If not, I might try this.
If you cannot help me, thanks for taking the time to read.

Wrong, that's the best way to kill a battery. They have limited charge and recharge cycles and they do best when used. But batteries are not things that last forever and if they are not used then they need to be stored in a dry and cool place to extend their useful life.

That said, many Acer's have horrible batteries that simply die no matter how they are used or taken care off.

It can work, and free to try, so definitely worth a shot. And yes it's 100% safe. The battery has zero part in holding your data which is stored on a magnetic disk.

If you need a replacement battery there are tons of online retailers such as those on Amazon selling inexpensive replacements.

Hello
I recently purchased a new battery for my laptop. Its charging upto 92/93% and then the battery icon shows that 93 % available, plugged in, not charging like this..

so.. I have tried charging it for a very long hour to see if it exceeds 93%, but that didn't work. There is no such power plan option in my laptop which limits the charging percentage.
Note that this was the same issue with my first battery. And after using it for a while, it automatically started charging to 100%.
So, should I be worried?

Second question, I keep my laptop on for most of the time. So how should I discharge and recharge it while using it? Or should I just keep it plugged in for 24*7 since it doesn't charge beyond 93%? What should I do?(Note that my battery is hardwired, its inside the laptop, removing it requires disassembling the laptop)

Third question, My laptop battery wear level keeps changing(I checked it using almost all the softwares like HWinfo, HWmonitor). When I bought it, it was 1 %, then it went to 7%, after next reboot, it was 5%, and now its 9%)

For my laptop, should I hibernate or standby?

Standby: it leaves the power light flashing
Hibernate: seems to turn off almost

Does one keep more power than the other?

Stanby is more convenient as when I open the laptop it turns on from there

If I got an extra battery, could I hibernate, and then swap batteries?
Actually: how would I charge a second battery without it being connected to a laptop?

Thanks!

Having just bought a ClickMini to replace my trusty Libretto 100 there are a couple of things that I hope other users or forum experts can help me with.

1) does anyone know how to TURN OFF tapping to click on the ALPS 'mouse pad'. Having been used to a 'nipple' and proper click bars this 'feature' does not work well for me, giving false activations more often than I would like. Note that I have looked at the pad properties in Control Panel and, it appears from this, that tapping either is not active (which it is) or that it cannot be changed. Note also that the ALPS driver is up-to-date having downloaded from the Toshibs website without effect on my problem.

2) how can I display the status of both the battery in the tablet section and that in the keyboard dock? Several folk refer to doing so, or seem to, in the threads below but I cannot find any way of doing so. Your help and advice will be valued.

Finally, although new to this forum and with a new machine, I am far from a Newbie in PC computing terms having bee using compurters in various guises since before the IBM PC was invented. So I am far from being inexperienced and unable to read between the lines of an instruction manual, indeed I have written many myself!

Hoping someone out there can help, yours aye

Hey everyone, just had a couple of questions regarding the High Performance settings for laptop batteries.

1.) To me, selecting the High performance settings is like overclocking your laptop. It probably isn't, but my question is : If I set my laptop battery settings to High Performance, will it wear down my laptop? (like overclocking)

2.) In your experience with High Performance, does your laptop make more fan noises? (since it IS on high performance, your laptop is working harder right?)

Thanks for taking a look!

A:Laptop/battery High Performance setting Questions

High Performance just means less power-saving, no reduced CPU clock speed, and longer or non-existent automatic shutdown of the screen or PC itself. It is the setting that wears the battery the fastest, but won't wear down your machine.

Here is what I have tried. First attempt: Power On; Hit Enter at Lenovo splash screen; Hit F12 at Startup Interupt Menu; Select my USB drive from list; Hit Enter; screen goes back for about one second and then the F12 menu reappears like nothing happened. Force power off by pressing and holding the power button. Second attempt: Power On; Hit Enter at Lenovo splash screen; Hit F1 at Startup Interupt Menu; to eter the BIOS Setup. Disable secure boot (Security > Secure Boot). Save (F10); repeat first attempt. Same result. Third attempt: as before except that I additionally set Startup > UEFI/Legacy Boot to Both and tried again. Same result. Fourth attmpt: as before except that I changed the boot priority to put legacy first. Same result. Fifth attempt: as before except that I set  Startup > UEFI/Legacy Boot  to Legacy Only. Same result. The USB stick has Grub on it and boots Linux distributions. It works in about a dozen other machines that I use it on regularly.  I tried two separate USB sticks and I tried both USB ports on the right-hand side of the computer. If I can't get this to work then it's going back. I am stuck. First... long time T series user going back to the initial ones. Had been using a T520 up until I finally gave in and purchased a T580 over the BF in July sale. Since I have been using a dock for a long time and like the convenience factor I got the Pro Dock (40AH0135US) to go along with the T580. Long story short... the first T580 arrives with a blown system board. I send it back and 11 days later another T580 arrives. This one boots and has no issues off the dock. It's fast and definitely an upgrade from the T520. First thing I notice in placing it on the dock is that the side mount process is tedious. Reading other posts seems to confirm that experience. It's nowhere near as well engineered as the bottom dock solution and I spend more time trying to insert the dock mechanism than I ever had with the legacy dock solutions. I eventually get things perfectly aligned and power on. Right off the neither external monitor is working. I have two Dell UHD monitors connected to the DP's on the dock and neither comes on. I mess with the cables and nothing, I take the T580 off and re-insert... nothing. I call Lenovo and without even trying to diagnose the issue they issue an RMA for the dock. I get another dock 2 days later and this one works for exactly 1 day. The external monitors work and then 10 hours later when I come home from my job and place the T580 on the dock they don't work. Nothing changes but somehow things are back to not working again. To be clear at no point from powe... Read more

Hello- this is my first post to the Lenovo community forums. I just received a brand-new T580, custom ordered directly from Lenovo. If it matters, this was supposed to have a 500GB spinning disk and 16GB SSD (Intel Optane PCIe). Windows 10 was the only option for pre-installed OS (Professional, in this case). This new machine will not boot and has yet to boot. I received it on a Friday afternoon. Once I unboxed and charged it and tried to boot, tech support conveniently closed for the whole weekend. I opened a ticket in Lenovo's MTSA (yet another account to open), with no response. Now I am turning to the forums. I installed the battery and charged it, then attempted to boot. My first attempt resulted in INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE, then rebooted. The same thing happened again, then started "Automatic Repair" Automatic Repair (a/k/a Startup Repair) did nothing, probably because there is no existing image to revert to or older version of Windows to fall back on. I get the following errors: "System Restore: To use System Restore, you must specify which Windows installation to restore. Restart this computer, select an operating system, and then select System Restore." (Of course, that does not happen-this is a brand-new laptop) Then "Re-image Your Computer: An internal error occurred. The following information might help you resolve the error: STATUS_WAIT_2 (0x80070002)" (Good luck!) I ran all the Lenovo diagnostics, and they all pass with flying colors. I would not prefer to run Windows 10 again on T580 - high performance machine hogged by Windows 10. If Lenovo could pre-install downgrade option out of the box that would save several hours of research by end users, T580 with Windows 7 would perform more stable and solid provided if they have enabled all the drivers to function properly.  This has been hugely frustrating experiencing to deal with T570 machine running Windows-10 Pro, I had to dump the machine. I dont have much confidence to run T580 on windows 10 pro, it would not even match T520 machine ( 7 years old machine) running on Windows -10. Looking forward for the solution, request Lenovo team to enable Downgrade option as part of the customization to save users's time and stable user experience. If Lenovo Does not deliver out of the box, first thing to do after the machine is to wipe out Windows 10 to install, Please let us know if the drivers available or I would be placing a ticket to go through 100 steps to get it done.  Thank you,Mamba.

Hello everyone,I'm planning to buy my first Thinkpad, probably a 8th gen Intel processor one. I read this on the T580 specifications sheet : "System has one HDD slot or one M.2 2280 slot exclusively for storage" but that doesn't seem clear to me.I found here someone else who as the exact same, unfortunately unanswered, question :System has one HDD slot or one M.2 2280 slot exclusively for storage. Why I cannot use it with dual drive setup. One fast but low capacity PCIe NVMe ssd on the M.2 slot and another high capacity hard drive on the regular 2.5" HDD bay. Why one or another but not both? I couldn't find a simple and clear answer to that question

Hello Everyone, I'm looking to buy my first ThinkPad but Lenovo segmentation is a bit confusing. I understand T is midrange model and E is entry level.  But both models could be customised with the same specs, 15inch 1920x1080p, i5 8250u, 8gb (4x2) ram, 128 ssd. However, there is 300 ($USD 420) price difference? Both laptops look identically. Is it worth paying extra for T model?  Unfortunately, there is very little info available online. Please shed some light. Thank you.

Hi, just got the T580 but kicking myself that I did not get the back lit keyboard. What do you guys think - does it make much difference? Is it the same feel as the normal keyboard? Is it possible to swap out?  If so where is the best place to get the part?  Thanks.

Hey folks,I just purchased a T580 from Lenovo.com this month. I received it and upon opening immediately noticed a continuous sharp edge all along the three sides of the keyboard/computer part of the laptop. The screen is fine, this is only along the edges of the base portion, and not including the back edge where the screen hinges.  The textured surface on top of the base seems to have a sharp, possibly unfinished edge. I have spoken with the support line and haven?t gotten far.  I would like to compare my laptop to a T580 in store but cannot find one.   Its hard to photograph but I think I?ve captured it here just above the fan openings. If you zoom you can see the light from what I call a sharp edge. The fact that there is a change in angle at all in thus location leads me to believe it is a production oversight. I do believe I could whip this unit into shape with an emory board, but why settle for a less than excellent product.  So my question to the forums is, can anyone attest to this being the normal fit and finish for these T580?s?  Is this a problem or is this the expectation. Has anyone else experienced this issue?Zoom to the center of the picture and you can see the sharp edge along the bottom edge of the top piece of material

T580 (fresh from factory).  Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620 driver (12/27/2017 - 23.20.16.4905).  Intel Core i7 vPro 8th Gen.  Windows 10 64 bit (freshly updated).  Lenovo Vantage system update freshly updated.  (today's date: 4/28/2018) LG display plugged into HDMI port on Thunderbolt adapter which is plugged into the USB-C port on left side.HP display plugged into HDMI port on right side. Either display is detected just fine if I unplug the other one; but when both are present, it only detects one of them. This exact configuration was working fine on my T470, Intel Core i5, vPro, 7th Gen. So, bigger and better (and more $$) is worse. My bet would be on a driver issue.  (Windows won't let me install the Intel April 2018 driver - it says probably because the manufacturer did custom driver coding.)

A:T580 Won't detect a second external monitor

UPDATE: Well, ok, it DOES appear to TRY to "detect" the display when I first plug it in.  But it has no properties (e.g., Resolution) and the #3 icon on the layout panel soon disappears and clicking the Detect button won't bring it back (unless I unplug my other monitor - then it detects fine and works fine).

Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum as I just bought a nice T580 with i7 8550U Intel CPU. So far the machine is amazing, it's my first Lenovo (I'm coming from a MS Surface Pro 3) and I'm happy with it, except for one thing: When AC is plugged on, the CPU clock always goes to max speed (3.8-4.0GHz), even if the load is at 0%. That means that the laptot heats more and the fan kicks in very fast if you start to do something, even if it's only web browsing. That's really annoying.Everything goes back to normal if I unplug AC and work on battery. The CPU immediately lowers the clock, as you can see on my screens. Here are all the tricks I already tried: - Changing power modes by clicking on the battery icon on the desktop. This doesn't do anything when AC is plugged. But this works perfectly if I unplug it.- Resetting the BIOS. No changes.- Changing BIOS AC power settings with the same values as for battery power settings. No changes on Windows 10, still at 100% clock speed.- Restoring Windows 10. 2 times. Still no changes. I even used the Lenovo recovery tool to factory reset it. It's not a software problem as this happens already after the very first startup of Windows 10.- Downgrade the BIOS to rev. 1.06. No changes. I'm currently using the latest 1.09. I don't know what to do now. I asked some people on Reddit and they don't seem to have the problem. I run out of ideas. Could you help me? Thank's in advance for all your answers!Florian... Read more

Hi,I have a brand new thinkpad T580.When I am playing audio, I get a random crackle or popping sound. This gets progressively worse the longer I listen. Stopping and restarting the audio seems to resolve the issue temporarily, but after about 10 mins its back. This issue also seems to be worse while charging or if the CPU load is high.Possibly related is the fact that my fan seems to be spinning faster than it should. Im running an SSD so shouldnt be producing too much heat but its always noticable. Assuming it was the media player, I have tried a veriety of players including just playing windows sounds so its not the software. The sound is the same if i use speakers or headphones or laptop speaker,I also have done full driver updates and bios update to latest version. Thanks,

Hi All, When my T580 is docked, with speakers attached to the audio jack on the dock, the Dolby Audio program reports the following message: "Plug headphones or speakers into the system audio jack to enable Dolby Audio." Should the computer not recognize when speakers are plugged into the dock?  Seems like a bug. Software, drivers and firmware are all up to date. Has anyone else seen this? Len
