Windows 7 won't let me edit information... I.E. mp3 file information like artist,

Q: Windows 7 won't let me edit information... I.E. mp3 file information like artist,

I am trying to edit information for my mp3's so they are all organized in iTunes, it will not let me do it.† iTunes doesn't let me edit the information either! Help!?

Preferred Solution: Windows 7 won't let me edit information... I.E. mp3 file information like artist,

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Windows 7 won't let me edit information... I.E. mp3 file information like artist,

Hi,You can right click the MP3 file and click Properties. Switch to "Detail" tab and then you can eidt the MP3 information, such as Title, Artists and†Composers. Can you modify the information successfully? If the information cannot be modified by iTunes, you may need contact Apple support for further assistance. Thanks,Novak

Hi everyone
This is my first post on this forum
I came here because I asked a question on yahoo answers and didn't get a proper answer, and I thought maybe someone here could help me.
Here's the copy paste of my conversation on yahoo answers

I asked

What I want to do, basically, is add information (artist, album, year, genre, etc.) to a bunch of mp3's that are in the same folder, including all mp3's contained in its subfolders.

Let me explain.
I used to use winamp to play my mp3's. So i organized my mp3's in folders by genre (i have a metal folder, a hardcore/punk folder, a rap folder, etc.) and i would just drag the folder in winamp. Now I've started to use WMP11 since it's compatible with my sony mp3 player, and I need to add a bunch of information to my mp3's.
I'll give you two examples of what I want to do. I have the Sepultura discography on my computer, in a folder named "Sepultura", and then in subfolders containing each albums. I would like all the files in the folder and its subfolders to have "sepultura" instead of "unknown artist" in the "artist" field.

But more importantly, the genres are all mixed up. I'd like to tag all mp3's in my metal folder as "metal" in one click. Is there any program that can do that, or any way to do it with WMP11 ?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Then someone replied

Screenshot of my situation: http://i31.tinypic.com/e8txr7.png

I am aware that most or all of these song files do actually contain information on them, since I had them in an old computer, and everything was just fine. On this machine all the columns show blank.

I got tons of song files from various sources and none of them show any information under folder explorer. When I add them to the Winamp playlist the tags show normally, however by hitting Properties > Summary on any file I don't see any information there as well.

Thank you for your time, in advance.

I am fairly new and in search of some help here on the forums. I have recently bought a computer from a friend (2nd hand). I ran msinfo32.exe in the run box and it shoot out the system information. On there I notice that the manufacture was incorrect and so it the model number. The desktop is a dell and the model is Inspiron 570 MT. I wanted to change it back to these vales but was unable to.

I tried using regedit searching under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\system\BIO S to change data under the name Base Board Manufacturer, system family, system Manufacture and system product name. I've successfully replaced it with the correct manufacture and product name but as I recheck msinfo32.exe it was still unchanged. I tried restarting it hoping that it would refresh the msinfo32.exe but all it did was restoring all the data that I edited.

Is there a way where I can change it back to the correct information?

Msinfo32 is queried by the OS from the hardware you cant change it from regedit. You might want to run an additional app (like everest) to see if you get consistent results.

If you do and they both are wrong maybe the guts of the computer have been changed and are different

Well, after copying the files into the hard drive, the computer will hang right at either "Please wait while setup initializes your Windows XP configuration" (and the word below are ..Saving configuration) or it will hang at "Loading information file dmreg.inf". I even bought a new HD, no luck with that. I used memtest86 to test the RAM, no error! I took everything off except the video card..still ...no help. I read somewhere about the PSU. I have a bizarre problem that I can't seem to solve. I looked all over the internet for solutions, but can't find any.

My problem is that when I right-click on Mp3 files, the pop-up menu shows "Edit Song Information" as the default command for Mp3 files. The default command should be "Play In Winamp".

I've looked for a command in Winamp to change the default command back with no success. I've checked the Mp3 info in Folder Options > View File Types and the "Play In Winamp" command IS set as the default.

One of my other programs must be causing the problem. I have the following audio programs or codecs installed.

Winamp 5.52
Windows Media Player 10
VLC Media Player
iTunes (I don't really use it except for m4b files)
Roxio Easy Media Creator 9
RealPlayer 10.5
K-Lite Codec Pack 3.7.0
G-Spot 2.21
Quicktime Player 7.4

Does anyone know how to get "Edit Song Information" removed as the default command for my Mp3s and what program might be causing it?

I have been using a Sony Vaio laptop for the past 3 years, until it died suddenly a few weeks ago.
Fortunately, I have been backing up my HD using Windows Backup Manager, which condenses all the info on my computer into a 3.97 GB .BKF file and stores it on a Lacie external HD.
After much debate, I decided to switch platforms and purchased a 15" MacBook Pro.
Here's where the trouble crystalized:
As my Sony laptop is totally dead the only way to get at all my information is through said BKF file, however Mac does not recognize/deal with such files...so, it seems that the only way to transfer my old files onto my new Mac now, is to somehow procure another (functioning, albeit expendable) PC laptop to to use as a clone/dummy, and to restore my old computer onto it (using the "restore" function of the Backup Manager) and then to go in manually and copy all the files I'd like to save and move them back onto my external HD, and then hop them over to my Mac....which seems crazy and round-about...
Please tell me there's another, easier way to go about this process!
Thanks so much in advance for your help!

A:extracting information from .BKF file

Well, if you were backing up your OS and Programs you will not be able to restore that Since these are files are specific to Windows and will not work on a Mac. What you can do is if you have an Intel Mac to get Boot Camp or Parallels and install XP on the Mac. then you can restore all your Windows OS, Files and Programs to that XP install and have full access to them.

Recently i have found a file named 'System Volume Information' in my c:/.The file is not created by me or process of installing software. It is a empty file. When i opened it a window popped out saying:'c:/system volume file is not accessible.Access is denied.'I feel very strange since i never see such this file.

Almost each big file and subfile in my c:/ and MyDocument contain a system configuration file called 'Desktop.ini'.These damn files are so annoying because there is approximately hundreds Desktop.ini in my pc.Below is 1 of the Desktop.ini found in my window media player directory in program files:
IconFile=%ProgramFiles%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe
What is it mean?????

Forgot to mention another file named RECYCLE is in my c:/.What are these strange files???

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A:System Volume Information file????

its nothing to worry about

System Volume Information is the folder, should be a folder, that contains your system restore info. If you really want to see it you need to give yourself permission to see inside it, not really recommended.

Recycler is just a folder that lets you see whats in the recycle bin, I think. It may serve another purpose.

Desktop.ini is just a config file for windows stores some setting that are used in different views, like icon view for the example you gave. Like the thumbs.db file that appears in folders with pictures is used for showing thumbnails in thumbnail view.

I have stumbled across some files on a pretty new Windows 8.1 installation that I am not very familiar with and would love to have some community insight. After some Google searches I was unable to find any real information, which raised a red flag in my mind. Here are the files in question:
Filename:  LoginWizard_Core[1].js
Path: C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\IE\
Path: C:\Windows\Installer\
Note: There are about 32 files that are like this. Each one has a unique value, but they are all formatted the same. I Googled one set of values without SourceHash{} and the results referenced some software package that I did have installed. However, out of curiosity, I really want to know more about these files.
Filename: WinStore.js
Path: C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-store-client-ui-web....
Note: My guess is that this is a legitimate file that controls the overall feel of the Windows Store. However, I added it just in case anyone can provide useful information about it.
Filename: winrm.vbs
Path: C:\Windows\WinSxS\....
Note: The filename makes reference to both wow64 and amd64, as well as "microsoft management core".

This happened, like, six months ago so I don't know why I haven't seeked more information until now.
An IRC channel that I regularly visit that is full of techies had a URL in its topic, which pointed to a .txt file. I clicked it and, surprisingly, found a picture downloading into IE. While this was rather harmless, I was scared by this deception of what files were, and so I asked the techies about this in the channel. They ignored me, as usual, but what information I could get from them went something along the lines of:

1) Contrary to my former belief, file extensions are NOT universal, just another invention of Microsoft.

2) The real information that tells you what a file actually is is not its extension, but its header information.

I have limited knowledge about headers, so I ask:

1) Could someone please give me the full story on file extensions and headers?

2) Should I be worried about the potential security risk? Could the next .txt file I download actually be an .exe?

This update begs the question of where does MS store these "diagnostics" and "tracking" files? Do they upload them immediately or store them on our systems and batch them up at some future time? Is there any way to know what files are being created for this information so we can see, or delete, them? I have found a few uncommon temporary internet files that I routinely delete with CCleaner, but it would be nice to know if there are others.

Hi Folks,

I've run into an issues with my companies new laptops where links don't open from Word/Excel/Outlook, etc. I found a fix, which is to add some registry keys to the HKCU\Software\Classes tree.

I'm happy to have found the fix, the problem is that it's user specific -- when a new user logs into the laptops they don't have the keys.

From my research I've determined that the Classes section of HKCU doesn't come from the normal user.dat file, but rather comes from the Usrclass.dat file, burried under %user%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows.

However, ther is no Usrclass.dat file to be found under the default user folder.

So, when a user logs in for the first time, and a usrclass.dat file is created for him, where does the information in it come from?

And "Something else" written on the second side.
Is this possible?

A:Java: Reading information from a file

Certainly! I'll give you the short of it; the more you figure out on your own, the better. If you can't get it to work, do post again

You'll want to use Java's Scanner class (in java.util.Scanner) and use a FileReader object in the Scanner's constructor. Once you have a working Scanner, you can use its nextLine() method to read data from the file.

You may have to play around with that file format. You can probably get rid of the colon in front of the flashcard number and I don't recall if you need the quotes or not.

Welcome aboard  Certainly program name, file name and VirusTotal results are all suspicious. Let's run some checks...  Download Security Check from here or here and save it to your Desktop. Double-click SecurityCheck.exe Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box. A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.NOTE 1. If one of your security applications (e.g., third-party firewall) requests permission to allow DIG.EXE access the Internet, allow it to do so.NOTE 2. SecurityCheck may produce some false warning(s), so leave the results reading to me.NOTE 3. If you receive UNSUPPORTED OPERATING SYSTEM! Hi Guys - help needed....

When using Windows explorer if you hover the mouse over a file name a panel appears giving you details such as file size, location, date created etc, etc. I don't know what this is called.

Does anyone know how to switch this off please?

My partner is visually impaired and finds that these panels obstruct the text when she is trying (with difficulty) to read it.

Surely there must be a way of stopping these...?

Many thanks in anticipation.

Near the bottom of the page in the link below is a Registry Setting that supposedly will enable or disable explorer tooltips. I suggest backing up your registry first either via restore point or a registry backup program.

The page:
Disable ToolTips Windows 7 - Microsoft Community
The registry backup freeware I use:
Registry Backup

This backup is better than some because it uses Volume Shadow Copy so you can back up all registry hives even though Windows is running. Note that to restore with it you must boot into safe mode first.

Hi All,
I'm having a problem specific to Vista and Windows 7. I do tech support for a software company that uses access files to store company information, in a file called database.mdb. Occasionally customers need to uninstall/reinstall their software, and we have them copy/paste the database.mdb file to another location on their computer before doing so, so they won't lose their information. With older versions of Windows the customers simply had to point their software, once reinstalled, to this database.mdb file in the location where they pasted it in order to view their data. With Windows Vista, however, when they point the software to this new location it is missing all their information--it only includes the data that came in the database.mdb file when they initially installed the software on their computer.

I have had some success, in the past, with re-creating folders with the same names as those which had originally contained the database.mdb file, copying the copy we had created, and pasting it in those folders to the file is in the same path as when its data was originally updated. Yes--making a copy of the copy which did not show the information, and placing it back in the location the information was originally updated, worked.

The past couple days I've come across a couple customers for whom this did not work, however. One is using Windows 7, the other a version of Vista. They both have their software and data in a folder called "Pro... Read more

I recently went into the options in Word and checked the "Confirm Conversion at Open" box in the 'General' area.
Later I unchecked this option, but now, when I open a file in Word, the file content appears but followed by at least a whole page of file information that I don't want to see, about styles ,my identity, etc, etc..
Curiously, if I enter the file via Windows Explorer or My Computer this information does not appear, nor does it appear if I go in via the last files used in the File menu.
Can anyone tell me what's going on, and how to put it right?

Hit File-Open.

Change the *file types* dropdown to Word documents or All Word documents instead of Recover text from any file.

I am doing some "Spring Cleaning" on my HD, finding and deleting duplicate files and looking for large space-hogs to get rid of.

Noticed that my "System Volume Information" File was almost 3 Gbytes. I recall somewhere in the XP settings there is a place where you can adjust the percentage of HD space used for SOMETHING (system restore?).

Is this System Volume Information File the place I am thinking of ?

Is there an "optimum" size for this SVIF ? Is there such a thing as "too small".

Can I manually delete this thing safely ? If so, how much ?

Thanks in advance,

A:Large System Volume Information File

If it's related to system restore, turning off system restore should empty the file. just be sure you won't need to restore your system.

You can adjust the size of system restore:
control panel>system>system restore>settings

10 % is reccommended, but it depends on your needs.

start>run>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore. Select restore my computer..

You will see a list of restore points. If you have restore points for six months, and you know you won't need to restore to a pont that long ago, you can reduce your size. It's really a judgement call from there.

Two things I would suggest are.

1.) If you are not experiencing any other problems and think you will not need a restore point, I would disable system restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore. This will wipe out all previous restore points. Just make sure you turn it back on.

2.) Boot to the Recovery Console and run chkdsk /r
