ThinkCentre M910t Thunderbolt 3

Q: ThinkCentre M910t Thunderbolt 3

Hi, An old thread from a few years ago suggested that the ThinkCentre M910t system doesn't support Thunderbolt. Is that still true today of a system bought a couple of months ago?The provided Nvidia GT (not GTX) card isn't powerful enough for our purposes. Replacing with a GTX isn't an option either because the card we need physically won't fit in the chassis nor does it have an adequate power supply. So I was hoping to connect an external GPU box but the system needs Thunderbolt support. Adding a PCIe card may not work if the motherboard doesn't support it anyways. I can't conclusively tell from the online specs at Lenovo if Thunderbolt is supported. I can't even submit a support ticket because the new MTSA support system doesn't work, either. Does anybody have a definitive yes/no answer on M910t and Thunderbolt 3? Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi folks, I have a few M910T's that we installed fresh Windows 10 1803 build.  After installing and getting the desktop up we are getting a "No Internet" from our onboard NIC.  We have installed multiple different drivers, including the Lenovo System Update 5 app and using the Lenovo driver for it.  The NIC is the Intel i219-LM.  Which is pretty common NIC.  Not all our machines are doing it but we have been messing with it for 2 days now and still no issue.  We can access some of the internet but some sites wont even show up.  We can access the local network with no issue.   Any ideas? Thanks

I made a change in the BIOS of an M910t (see my other topic for details) and now neither graphics cards appear to be functioning. I want to reset the BIOS, but am having difficulty doing so. I unplugged the tower, removed the CMOS battery, held down the power button for a bit. Left the battery out overnight. Put it back in and plugged everything in again. No change. I looked through the manual and examined the motherboard closely, but don't see a mention of a CMOS jumper anywhere. Any advice?

I purchased a refurbished M910t from the Levnovo website. It doesn't appear to have a front fan, yet there are instructions for removal and replacement of one in the online manual. Was this computer supposed to have a front fan? I called Lenovo but got someone that couldn't tell me one way or another. 1.  Is this computer, which is a 10MM000MUS, supposed to have a front fan?2.  If it is, how do I obtain one, preferrably for free since it was just purchased a week ago?  Talking to tech support and sales didn't do any good.

Is it possible to enable the onboard graphics card on these computers in addition to using the graphics card that was added? I'm setting up these computers with multiple monitors and I would like to have one monitor using the displayport on the graphics card that was added, and the other connecting to the onboard graphics card through VGA. Please let me know it:A. This is possible.B. The steps to enable both. Thank you.

It was possible with previous generations of systems using this procedure:  Enabling multiple monitor support: ThinkCentre Edge 71 - M900.   It could be that the document hasn't been updated, if you could give it a try, and let us know if it works, or post with screen shots of what is different.  Ty.

I am trying to use a 3rd party external GPU enclosure that attaches via thunderbolt, and when attached, I got the message pop-up that external GPU support was not enabled by the vendor, and as such the device will likely not work? Has Dell locked the Latitude 7480 down to no external GPU support?

A:Latitude 7480 - Thunderbolt 3 - Thunderbolt software say external GPU support not enabled?

Probably.  I read somewhere that since Dell is pushing their Alienware external GPU stuff that uses a proprietary connection, they never enabled external GPU support via Thunderbolt.

Hi,
I myself own an XPS 15 9550 and noticed that I was not getting the full Thunderbolt 3 speedover it's Thunderbolt 3 port. I expected speeds around 2700MB/s, because of the overhead withthe theoretical gross speed of 3870MB/s, but I only ever got 1400MB/s out of it.
I did some digging and found out that none of the XPS notebooks with Thunderbolt 3 are evenable to achieve the full TB3 speeds, because they are only connected with two PCI Express lanes (x2.3).You can read more about this on the following links:Dell Subreddit PostChipset Digging on Forum

Thunderbolt 3 and the promised speeds were the MAIN REASON I even bought this notebook.I feel very cheated here.

Because I didn't liked USB 3.0 ethernet chipsets and USB-based ethernet cannot bear some network-intensive tasks, I wanted to use PCIe-based Thunderbolt ethernet controller on my XPS 15 9550. As there is no Thunderbolt 3 "PCIe" ethernet adapter (except docks), I chose to buy Apple Thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter and Thunderbolt 2-based ethernet adapter.
I plugged it into the XPS 15 9550 (tested with BIOS 1.1.19, 1.2.14, 1.2.16 and latest Thunderbolt firmware with NVM version 16), and the PCIe device did not pop up. Instead, only USB billboard device is appearing saying that "Alternate Mode configuration not attempted". Both Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.10 failed to detect the device. I moved this configuration to MSI GS63 laptop, and it detected ethernet controller successfully (that laptop utilizing NVM firmware version 18).
It seems that other vendors are affected with lower NVM firmware version involving setup with Thunderbolt adapter: see the case of Lenovo too. Do you have planned Thunderbolt NVM firmware update for XPS 15 9550? Looks like XPS 13 9360 is using newer Thunderbolt NVM firmware version, though.

Hi All, I have a new M910t (Product Number:10MMCTO1WW) and would like to add a 3.5" HDD to the secondary drive bay but I cannot figure out what part number I need order to secure the HDD to the chassis. I have reviewed the User Guide/Hardware Maintenance Manual for the M901t and it appears that I need some sort of bracket to insert the HDD into which will be fastened to the chassis. I also tried to look it up on the "Parts Look Up" and its not even shown in the Schematic View. Sorry I tried to add a screen show of the  Hardware Maintenance Maual page showing what the bracket looks like but it didn't seem to work. I cannot figure out what the part number is for this bracket. Does anyone know what the part number is so I can order it? I did order Part number: 4XF0P01009 (ThinkCentre 2.5: Storage Kit) and my HDD does fit into that bracket but I seem to need an additional bracket which the HDD has to fit into so that I can fasten it to the chassis (per the visual description in the Hardware Maintenance Manual). Thanks,

Just received the new M910s SFF machine I purchased a few weeks back from Allstarshop.com (because Lenovo was "sold out" and not even accepting orders for them at that time). I had also bought some extra "add-on" hardware parts from online retailers, expecting no problem at all installing them.  Note that I checked again today, and Lenovo is once again accepting orders for the M910s SFF machines.  So that problem is behind us.

Well... surprise. I had unexpected problems and trouble with 2 out of the 3 add-on hardware items I bought for the M910s, so I wanted to share my experience to give others who might have a similar project in the works a heads-up.

(1) The 10MK000QUS Kaby Lake i5-7500 machine was factory configured with 1x8GB of DDR4-2400 memory, Win10 x64 Pro, 1TB 7200rpm 2.5" SATA3 HDD, and optical CD/DVD drive.

(2) I added an additional 1x8GB of matching DDR4-2400 memory purchased from Crucial.  No problem.  Works perfectly, and the machine is now 2x8GB=16GB operating in dual-channel mode as expected.

(3) I had purchased a Gigabyte low-profile GTX-1050ti graphics card for use in the new machine, not expecting any problems. Well, it turns out there IS a problem, because this card at a length of 6.57" (167mm) is just bit too long.  The swing-up drive bay assembly inside the SFF case doesn't quite have the needed <167mm clearance in order to close properly with the graphics card installed.  It needs maybe just a... A:New M910s SFF: M.2 and graphics surprises/problems (SOLVED: M910t with GTX 1050 installed)

Remarkably, the "local express" delivery from Newegg got here about noon!  Amazing.

But sadly, the Zotac 1050ti card which was 160mm (6.3") in length is STILL TOO LONG.

So, much to my disappointment, it appears Lenovo has reduced the internal space in these new SFF cases, making it just about impossible to use almost all graphics cards.  I have installed Sapphire R7-250 low-profile / HD7750 cards in multiple M93p SFF and M800 SFF machines, and had no problem whatsoever, even though that card is 170mm (6.7").

Obviously the previous generation of SFF cases simply was larger.  The SFF cases now being used for the M910s are just too small.  If I'd known this I probably would have gone with the tower machine, if only to be able to use my intended GTX 1050ti graphics card (which could have been full-size in the tower).

Anyway, I've now ordered a lesser graphics card than I'd intended, the MSI version of the low-profile GTX 750ti. because it's length is only 5.75" (146mm), which absolutely will fit.  But this card only has DVI and HDMI connections, thus lacking a DisplayPort connector.  It's also only 2GB of DDR5 memory instead of 4GB as in the 1050ti, and with a slower core clock speed.  Bandwidth is 86GB/s vs. 112GB/s for the 1050ti.  Thankfully, there is at least one of these relatively modern DDR5 cards which is short enough to fit even if it's not the 1050ti.

But it will physically fit, which in the end ... Read more

Hi guys.

I'm in the market for a 8 - 12 TB Storage device and I have about £850. Speed is important also as I do video editing and shall be doing an awful lot of this over the next year.

Heres the issue I'm having

The Lacie 2 Big Thunderbolt 2 12TB Costs £799. Its Thunderbolt 2 which is awesome and has pretty much just been released. It promises speeds of up to 420MB/s link to the product here: https://www.lacie.com/uk/products/product.htm?id=10624

The Lacie 5Big Thunderbolt (1) 10 TB Costs £799 also. Its older tech, I think it was released more than a year ago, but its actually faster promising speeds of up to 785 MBs. Link: https://www.lacie.com/uk/products/product.htm?id=10607

So I'm thinking I want the Thuderbolt 1 drive with much faster speeds only dropping 2 TB for the same price. Is there something I'm missing though, do you guys know any reason why I should get the Thunderbolt 2 drive?

Thanks for your help and support.

A:ThunderBolt issues.

The problem you are runnning into is a rather unique one. Very few Windows notebooks have thunderbolt ports. Your zBook is a rare beast in that respect. That is why there are only Apple OS drivers available from the Thunderbolt SanLink2 10 Gig adapter manufacturer. You should consider pestering the manufacturer about producing a driver.  Once there is one available,  perhaps it will be submitted to Microsoft to include in the Windows 10 Driverstore and in the online updates to the OS.

Is there an update procedure for the P70 Thunderbolt ports? I'm still getting a full-blown trap (bluescreen, memory dump, &c.) when I unplug my Promise Raid Array. Configuration:P70 Laptop, Xeon CPU, 32 GB ram. Thunderbolt set to "1GB" reserved memory, beeps like crazy when set to "2GB" (bios)Adapters: USB-C to Thunderbolt- both an Apple (inexpensive, small) and "StarTech.com".Promise Raid Controller. Symptoms:On plugging in the USB-C to Thunderbolt adapters (already connected to the RAID) the Apple adapter is rarely detected. The StarTech adapter is more often detected, and the RAID mounts fine. Everything seems to move at normal media speeds.Unmounting the RAID works fine.Unplugging the USB-C adapter traps the system with a Bugcheck 0x00000018- (0x0 0xffffad0545a68050, 0x02, 0xf...) which decodes to a "Reference by Pointer" problem, and looking at the first parameter, a NULL pointer exception? If I wait until shutdown to unplug the adapter the system still traps with the same error when I log in. Is there an update to the Thunderbolt Firmware? Drivers?  I need this to work in a way that's not going to damage my system- and constant traps will eventually force an inconsistent filesystem. The RAID array works fine on both a W541 and MacBook Pro- but the P70 is supposed to be doing the heavy lifting and apparently cannot, yet.

A:Thunderbolt Troubleshooting

Additional Information about the boot time beeps:If one selects "2GB" reserved memory for Thunderbolt AND "512MB" for the Intel Graphics adapter, the laptop will, every boot, beep thrice, pause slightly, beep once, then pause, then thrice again. Returning to 256MB for the Graphics adapter will allow a silent boot. With the USB-C/Thunderbolt adapter/RAID plugged in, the system now boots with a black screen sometimes. None of this happens with the Thunderbolt disconnected.

The T470 for example has this: The ThinkPad T470 includes Intel® Thunderbolt? 3?the technology that brings lightning-fast Thunderbolt to USB-C at speeds up to 40 Gbps. Connect a cable from your USB-C port to a Thunderbolt 3-enabled device, and get four times the data and twice the video bandwidth of any other port type, while also supplying power. So you get Thunderbolt, USB-C, and DisplayPort. Plus, you can even output to two 4K displays with the Thunderbolt Dock. But the T470 has a 20Gbps Alpine Ridge LP controller. You do not get four times the data -- only two. You don't get twice the video bandwidth -- if this thinks of DisplayPort 1.2 then you get one, if it thinks of 1.3/1.4 then you are getting like 80% or so, actually less than a single port... So what's up with this text?

I just got a P50 with the M1000M and a Thunderbolt 3 display.   I am trying to get a Startech.com Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter to work to run my 27" Apple Thunderbolt display.   I have updated about every driver there is, yet I get "Ensure you are using the right cable" message and nothing shows up in my "attached device" list for thunderbolt (when I run the app).  I noticed that in the Device Manager there is no Thunderbolt Controller showing up also...   I am running the graphics cards now in discrete mode.  Also am running Win10.    Any help would be appreciated.  I got this computer primarily because of the Thunderbolt 3, so I could still use my old display.

I'm having an issue displaying video from the Thunderbolt 3 dock to my monitor via DisplayPort.  I have an XPS 15 9550.
It seems that the flurry of drivers released in the last week or so solved almost everything, but I'm still having problems getting the video consistently working while the lid is closed. It seems like the computer (XPS 15 9550) puts the display out to sleep even if I specify "do nothing" on lid close action.
Just wondering if anyone has any luck.
On a separate note (and slightly related), can I output to two daisy-chained monitors via a USB-C to displayport adapter? Two monitors in question are U2715Hs. This might be my backup plan if I can't get the TB dock to work before the 30 day return timeline.

A:Thunderbolt 3 and Closed Lid on XPS 15

I have the same problem with my new XPS 13 9350.  When lid is closed and I'm connected to an external HDMI monitor through the Thunderbolt 3 port (USB Type C), the monitor arbitrarily goes to sleep.  I am using a simple USB-C to HDMI dongle to effect compatibility.  This only occurs when the laptop lid is closed.
I can find no consistent pattern to this.  Sometimes it will reawaken upon keyboard entry, and sometimes I have to open the laptop and close it to awaken the external monitor.  Very frustrating.  I spent several hours debugging with tech support.

Anyone owns a P series Thinkpad and can comment on eGPU support? I wasn't able to find any certification on Intel's website or information on Lenovo's website.

A:P50/P70 Thunderbolt 3 External GPU

I don't think I've read where anybody's actually received a real P50/P70 in their hands yet from a real live purchase.  My own US order for a P70 was placed with Lenovo online last Wednesday night and confirmed by Lenovo last Thursday, but shipment is speculated at no earlier than 10-12 business days.

So I don't think you're going to get any firsthand feedback from anybody until maybe January.

But who'd really buy a P50/P70 with plans for an external GPU?  The graphics upgrades on the P70 are pricey, but certainly seem "adequate".

What is your plan?  Why do you want/need an external graphics capability?

I see this article regarding "thunderbolt add in card" for T7810...
www.dell.com/.../Setting-up-the-Thunderbolt-Add-In-Card
Where can I get the card?
Looked everywhere, can't seem to find one.. Maybe one for an HP is the same?
Thanks!

A:Thunderbolt add in card.

Thunderbolt isn't really and add in card.  There are no thunderbolt upgrades.  They are also not universal aka Dell Card is for Dell ASUS card is for ASUS.  The Thunderbolt header goes to a header on the motherboard.
They use the card to hold a bracket but there is no PCI-E specification for thunderbolt card because it does not exist.

A Dell card not one from ASUS. This is not a card that just requires PCI-E bus to EXPAND your system to Thunderbolt.  Therefore it is NOT an expansion card but rather a bracket to hold the thunderbolt port and provide power to the Thunderbolt Transceiver.  The card is essentially a mounting bracket for the thunderbolt port. "Asus is about to release a new Thunderbolt3 adapter card " This will not work in a DELL.

Its NOT an expansion card that will go into any machine.  And such cards are not interchangeable between vendors.
Thunderbolt goes to the card and Display port wraps into the card via cables.  Without these cables and POWER from the PCI-E bus these cards do not work and therefore are not interchangeable or applicable to ANY other system.  You can't use the ASUS card in a dell and you cant use the DELL card in an ASUS for example.
People see this card and think that if they have a PCI-E bus they can upgrade to thunderbolt.  This is not the case.
