Can’t connect to Internet (Moved from Windows Vista forum)

Q: Can’t connect to Internet (Moved from Windows Vista forum)

I followed some instructions that brought me to the Windows IP Configuration on the notebook. I don?t know where to go from here. What do I do with the results? I feel like I have opened Pandora?s box

Preferred Solution: Can’t connect to Internet (Moved from Windows Vista forum)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Can’t connect to Internet (Moved from Windows Vista forum)

Judging from what you have wrote, you are not able to go to the internet on a laptop/notebook? These machines are usually wireless so to confirm:

You have a wireless network in your home/work?
If so are you able to see it in the wireless network list (typically on the bottom right, in the signal bar icon)
If you are able to see the network, what happens when you select it to connect?

We have recently changed our Internet provider, and I find that although the Internet connects and works perfectly well on my (Android) tablet, it is constantly disconnecting on my laptop. I had no problems before with the previous provider. I've checked all the Internet and Network settings I can find but nothing looks like it needs to be changed. I've even checked the firewall. My laptop is about 7-8 years old. My partner has no problem with the connection on his laptop, it seems to be just mine.

A:wifi unable to connect (Moved from Windows 7 forum)

the pcie family controller is the wired network, not the wifi. you need to download the wofi drivers, install them and you should be good. the easiest way to do this is to hook up to the router with a cable, then download it. there are four available on the download page that said wifi, try them all to see which one works. i found them here: http://www.samsung.com/ph/support/model/NP-N102S-B04PH

I really need help since I'm not computer savy. Yesterday, I stupidly decided to disconnect my modem and router because all the wires were a mess!! Well, now I'm not sure if I reconnected correctly, but I guess I did since I can get online but have no wifi. My router password is working, however, when I entered all the wireless/security stuff on the Linksys site it just keeps bringing back to the basic set up page . I hsve no idea what is wrong. Any ideas? My router is a Linksys N300.

Thanks so much! I spent about 8 hours yesterday trying to fix this. Losing my mind!

A:Router won't connect, no wifi (moved from Windows 8 forum)

Might help to give us the actual model number of your Linksys router. The N300 refers to a type, not a model number. Wouldn't hurt to tell us the brand and model number of the modem.

Please tell us exactly how you have the computer, router and modem wired to each other, by referring to how the ports are named and labeled.

When you say, "I can get online but have no wifi", do you mean you your computer can get to the Internet only with a wired connection?

When you say the, "Linksys site", do you mean the web based administration pages on your Linksys router?

When you were changing the wireless and security settings, did you need to click a button the settings pages to actually save the settings.

Does your router show up in the list available WiFi connections on the Windows network connection list?

I recently uninstalled and reinstalled Explorer 8.0 in connection to fixing some related Firefox issues. Firefox is now working fine, but Explorer can't connect to microsoft.com (the program does open). According to the diagnostic program that it asks to run, there is a problem with the ftp protocol. In looking into repair of Explorer, microsoft.com is telling me that Explorer 8.0, and Explorer 7.0 are not compatible with the 32-bit XP operating system. Interestingly, when I had uninstalled Explorer 8 during the fixes, suddenly Explorer 7.0 appeared in Control Panel as being installed, whereas before the removal, only Explorer 8 was shown. It appears that I had both versions installed, but that Control Panel was only showing the most recent version. I do have the program and update folders for both programs appearing within the Windows folder. So, how can I find the most recent version of Explorer for XP and fix this issue? Version 8 (8.0.6001.18702) is the most current version that can be used in Windows XP SP3 32-bit or Windows XP SP2 64-bit.

It shouldn't be used anyway because many websites no longer support it and requires the use of a more current browser, such as Mozilla Firefox (which is what I use in both bit versions).

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum!

Windows 8 laptop got overheated from sitting in the sun and being used. At first it wouldn't turn on, but then it was left alone to cool and it opened up and such seemingly normally. But now it won't connect to the internet and says there are no available connections. The other computers and phones are fine, though. Is there something that can be done or such?

A:Computer Internet Issue (Moved from Windows 8 forum)

Try not to keep the laptop in the sun... overheating will lead to the battery failing and expand... like this:

Not good indeed - you don't want that thing to explode! Batteries tend to be around $100 depending on the vendor so it's not cheap to replace. Some vendors will replace them for free depending on age.

As to the issue in itself... can you confirm what make/model this machine is? Some laptops have a switch or a button that turns on / off the wireless.

Also I believe if you click right click on the wireless icon you can choose troubleshoot problems and if it is due to the wireless being turned off, it should prompt you for it.

I bought the upgrade to Windows Vista about 10 days ago and still have not been able to install it because of one nagging compatibility issue.
Everytime I get to the point in the installation process where the software checks installed programs for compatability before proceeding, I get the following message:

You must make the following changes before installing Windows
Close Windows installation, go to Programs, and uninstall the following programs:
Roxio Backup MyPC
The compatibility report will be saved to the current Windows desktop.

I never saw Roxio Backup MyPC in my programs list or in the Add/Remove Programs window, but I am very sure I have uninstalled every program with the word Roxio in it.
I also learned that Sonic Backup MyPC might also cause Vista to not install, but as far as I can see I don't have anything involving Sonic installed either.

Below you find a HijackThis log. Maybe there is something almost hidden in my computer associated with these programs that is still preventing Vista from installing. Thanks in advance for your help.

I?ve been having a strange problem I cannot seem to solve.

My computer all of a sudden last week stopped displaying any webpages/connecting to the internet. It says it is connected (signal strenght/connection= excellent) but it won?t actually connect. Not to IE (7), but not to anything else either. The problem is both for the wireless as well as through the cabel connection.

I?m sure the problem must be the computer and not the internet though, because on my friend?s computer it works fine. I have tried to put all the settings the same as on his (gateway, dns, network mask).

I have already tried to reboot the computer.

I have tried to renew/reset the IP-address numerous times, but am not sure this is working right. I have manually tried to set it (same as the computer that does connect, except for the last two digits).
But when I do it through Run it will let me release the IP-address, however when i try to renew it tells me

?An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection: An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket.?

I have also tried to reset WinSock.

It will not ping either, I tried yahoo.com and - it tells me Destination host is unreachable.

The last windows diagnostics I have are as followed;

Last diagnostic run time: 11/20/09 17:18:55 WinSock Diagnostic

After this happened about 7 times of trying to get online, I decided to try doing Safe Mode with Networking, but it wont let me online that way either, and I know for a fact that my internet isn't PPPoE. I don't know what I should do. Any help would be much obligued. BTW it is a Dell-XP Home Edition. As far as I know, your History folder is the way to look at which websites you have visited.

Having NT or not, makes no difference.

That will not work, one needs to have the different drivers for the new machine within the OS that is on the old drive.
Did you remove the new drive that was in the new laptop?
If not, what steps did you take to add the old drive to the new laptop?

I have a home built I7-920 with Gigabyte ex-58-ud3r motherboard. I have a built in card reader. Lately when I put in an SD card it tells me it will run faster on USB 2. It is supposed to be USB 2. How can I determine why it is doing this?

I see references by helpers to run this program and would like to know if it is something I should have on my desktop should it be run as part of computer maintenance and if so, how often. Thank you.

It is a temp file cleaner. You can use it OR use something like Ccleaner [which is what I use]
As for how often to run, that depends on how much you use the system AND how much time you spend online. Once a week should be fine however if you are online a LOT, run it more often.

...and error 6008

I was in the middle of an online gaming session; my system just shut off. Hard stop. No warning.
It rebooted itself and all was fine, in that I could hop into my session and resume. Obviously I lost a great deal of advantage, but operationally everything worked as it should.

I have been in another room and was sure I heard certain sounds that only occur when my system starts up ( my Logitech wheel doing self test for example). It doesn't happen often. But it has happened. And nothing seems amiss.

I am just starting to dig into this to figure our what might be happening, and this was step #2... posting here.

Ill upload sysdump tmo . and will be in a position to answer questions in hope to resolve this quickly.
