Preferred Solution: case LED wires...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Building a new computer
Okay everything came and I am almost ready to start building the computer. I was told if I needed any help that you guys would be able to help me. So here goes.
Like I said before I'm not afraid of anything but the power supply cords. There is awire from the from part of the case that looks something like thisIt's a striped wire with 4 pronges at the end of it that plugs in somewhere. Each one has something written on it:
1. Power Led (the largest)
2. HDD Led
3. Reset Led
4. power SW
It des not say in the mobo book where these go but I'm pretty sure that I need to plug them in somewhere.
In case you need it, this might help lol. This is where you can find the mobo. I know it's not a great one but for a 9 year old I thought it might work. If not I can always gett another one. It was very inexpensive not that money is not object but I figured if I screwed it up I would out less than $50.00.

Hello. I am in the process of building my 1st computer and I currently have 7 case wires not plugged into the motherboard. They are labeled:
Mic-In
Mic-Out
L-In
L-Out
R-IN
R-Out
Gnd

I am pretty sure that these are the Front Audio connections, however my mobo manual doesn't clearly explain where these should be hooked onto the motherboard.

Thank you for your help and your patience with my lack of knowledge.

I recently bought an asrock mobo and an amd cpu to replace my intel setup. I installed the mobo and the cpu and hooked everything up except for the wires for the case's front panel stuff. I don't really care about the sound and usb cables, but I do need to hook up the power and reset buttons but the wires are labeled differently than in the mobo manual. The manual says they should be plugged in in this order:
pled+ pled- pwrbtn# gnd
hdled+ hdled- gnd reset# dummy

but the case wires are in 4 different groups, and labeled: vcc, vcc1, vcc2, data+1, data-1, data+2, data-2, tpa-, tpa+, tpb-, tpb+, and gnd. Any idea which wires mean what? Any help is appreciated

A:asrock mobo and case wires

Welcome.

Ok, on your mobo, the pled is the power led, the light that indicates that the system is on, the hdled is the light that shows hard drive activity, the pwrbutn is the power on switch, and the gnd reset is your reset switch.

Ok, the case has odd names, but you can find out what each wire does by following the wire to where it goes. For example, if you follow a wire and it ends up at the power switch, then that wire would go on the pwrbutton headers on the board. The power button is likely the only button that "needs" to be connected to get it to work, and it doesn't really matter which way the two wires go on the mobo pins for pwrbutn. Do the same procedure for the other wires and you'll find the hd led, power led and reset switch cables, connect them accordingly. Led's do matter which way the wires are on the pins, as they have a + and -. You can probably assume if, for instance you find that two wires go to the hd ld, and the one wire is marked -, then connect it to the hdled- pin, and the other wire to the + pin.

Hope this helps.

The wires you list for the case are probaby usb and firewire connections, I think you should have other wires that connect to the power switch, because the ones you list, should go to the case's front usb and firewire(if your board has it) headers.

Hi,

I am putting a water coolant system in to my computer and i had to go ahead and upgrade the case as well to make room for the Corsair H100.

My problem is that, like an idiot, I wasn't paying attention to a specific group of wires that i disconnected when removing my old motherboard and now i do not know where the cables for my new case connect to on the motherboard. The cluster of cabling i disconnected was coming from the case itself (the old case)

The cables for my case, which is a Phantom 410, that i am having a problem with are labeled as follows:

H.D.D LED
POWER SW (Pwr switch, i'm sure?)
RESET SW
+P LED and -P LED (each of these are only a 1 pin cable)
HD Audio

The place where i think it goes is labeled like this:

+MSG- +PW- +SPEAK-

+HD- -RES+ -CI+ +PWR LED-
To give u an idea of what i did so far I put the negative cable of the Reset SW where it goes on the -RES+ then put the + where positive goes. I did this until i got stumped no knowing where to put the -P LED and +P LED cables. As well as which spot to put the HD Audio cable at. And i think the "-CI+" is irrelevant because i have no cable that fits in the spot. At least none of the cables from the case.

There are other cables as well but i think those are just fans and i can figure them out... if they're suppose to connect a certain way, then a heads up would be grateful.

As far as the HD Audio cable from the case goe... Read more

Here is the link to the manual for my case

Sorry for the long explanation but i didn't know how to simplify it haha.

Reading that manual i am 99 percent sure i got everything hooked up right. Negative to negative, etc.

BUT....

I have 2 cables and i dont know where they go. The first is +P LED which has a connector for 1 pin only. And then i have its friend, -P LED... There is a spot that sais LED- on the board, so thats a given. But where do i put the positive (+P LED) cable? On the pin above or to the left of where i put the negative?

Thanks again.

Hey guys,

I did something dumb and dropped a case fan in such a way 3 of its 4 wires came off. Its one of those arctic pwm sharing F8 fans and its only been running for a month. I've never soldered on something in the computer before, so I was wondering if its worth a try to solder those wires back to their contact points? What if I spill too much solder on there, would that be a problem? Is there a way I could heat up the solder on the contact point and fix the wires without actually using more material?

Pretty basic questions, I know but I've not done this before and I dont want to just toss a new fan out. If theres no choice, then I guess I'd have to.

Thanks for your help

What have you got to lose?

Use a low wattage fine point iron , 15 watts (or less), clean 1/8" (or less) at the end of each broken wire and lightly "tin" the ends, after the ends cool, apply a very small amount of paste rosin to the tinned end of each wire. All you have to do now is hold each wire in place and "touch" the iron the the soldering point for 1/2 a second.

As you can probably tell, less is more!

I got AT&T Dryloop Internet a few months ago, but about 3 weeks ago my Internet suddenly stopped working. I found out later that the cord that runs under the house had been cut all the way through in a couple places; it's like someone intentionally crawled under there and cut them. Now I'm faced w/ a huge bill to get an AT&T repair person to fix it. If anyone could give me some advice on what to do or alternatives, that would be great.

A:Help! My Wires Have Been Cut

like any DSL, "dry loop" (which just means there is no voice line on the phone service) is run over copper wire. In homes, this is usually insulated and shielded wire with four interior wires called "two pair," again typically with red, green, yellow, and black. Chances are you are using the red and green. If the colors don't match, don't worry. Just make sure you connect the same wires to the same terminals.

Go to Radio Shack or your local hardware store and get an inline connector for outdoor use. Simply connect one color from one side of the cut to the same color on the other side of the cut, and all should be well.

You can splice the wires directly, but that could cause more line noise than you want.

Alternatively, just re-wire the connection from your phone box to the wall. Red to red, green to green.

Remember that phone wires are "hot" and run at low voltage, so if you corss live wires you will get a but of a wake up call -- nothing big and sure as heck not like 120V current, but stronger than putting your tongue on a nine volt.

While you are at the hardware store, you can buy a wire tester that plugs into the jack and tells you if you have the wires hooked up correctly or not. Just don't plug anything into the jack until it tests positively, and you are good to go. Crossing phone wires is not by any means the end of the world, and nothing will happen while you are testing.

Hi all,

Just a small question im looking to add a fan to my comp to exhaust the heat out, the only fan i can get has 1 red and 1 black wire (about 20cm long) coming out of it, im at ends on how i would install it in the computer as i heard that fans come with 3 pin connectors or something that simply you plug into the motherboard.

Thanks for any help.

A:Fan- with 2 wires?

A standard fan just has the power lead (red and black), others are designed to plug on to the board and as such can be either controlled or monitored by the motherboard, these can have 3 wires.

To connect a standard 2 pin plug you can either feed it directly from one of the molex plugs using an adaptor cable or see if your board has a 2 pin power socket.

Im no expert in modding and cooling, this is based on general use of a PC.

I have a Dell Optiplex GX270. When I press the power button, the power button light turns amber, I hear some fans spinning, and the CD drive spinning. However, it never gets to the boot screen (or any screen). If I open the case and press the power button, however, the power button turns green and the computer works fine (loads all the way up and functions like normal). If I close the case after it has started, it continues to run fine. I'm guessing / hoping it's not the mother board or power supply that has directly gone bad... but maybe there is a connection or something? that changes from when it's closed to when it's open. I've heard of something like... the motherboard is shorting out by touching the case... but I'm not really sure where to look for that / how. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

I have an Acer Aspire X1700 (Details
It's about 2 1/2 years old now. Came with Windows Vista, I upgraded it to Windows 7. Also has a newer video card than what came with it.

Anyway, The PSU fan is getting really obnoxious, it gets really loud (more or less like a lawn mower). I have taken the thing apart and have tried every suggestion given to quiet it down, which it does for a whole week or two. This is a small form factor PC, so to even take the power supply out you have to basically take out everything else just to get to it. I have looked for replacements but they are very obsolete. It's only 220W anyway, so i'd like something a little more powerful.

What I want to do is get a larger case that I can use the same hardware is (motherboard, drives, etc) and purchase a larger power supply for that case. 220W really limits the PC. The small case holds a lot of heat even with all fans cleaned and working properly. Even just taking a CD/DVD out that was in it is very hot. I want a case with better airflow than this one.
I really am not sure what kind of case to get that will meet my needs. I don't want anything really fancy. If possible I'd like to get it off newegg.com

Any suggestions would be great.

A:Smoking wires

It sounds like your power supply is faulty. Chances are really good with that much voltage/current going through the board, enough to melt a wire coming off the LED header, that your board is toast as well. You might get lucky, though. I've seen a power supply melt it's wires (well, they actually caught fire) and the motherboard survived.

Normally to connect 2 network devices, you'll need to use a crossover cable. Some network devices have uplink ports that contain an internal crossover allowing a standard patch cable to work. You may want to try creating a crossover cable and see if that solves your issue.

this is my first build and it would be great if some one could help me with the wires. this has been a very frustrating build because a friend of mine was suppose to be here to walk me through it, but will not be able to due to some personal issues. i now had all these parts and had to learn some what on my own. i was able to install the cpu heat sink onto the mobo, install the mobo into the case, install the power supply into the case, as well as the ram and graphics card. i did have some problems with installing the mobo and im HOPING i did everything right.

now i need to get to the wires to make sure everything was installed correctly then move onto the HD/ DVD brn.

any help would be great. im hoping to find some one who has the time and can meet up on AIM and walk me through. thanks.

I have a Gigabyte G-VAX MB but can't find the manual to connect the case wires. The motherboard is virtually impossible to read and the PDF manuals I've downloaded are not much help either. Could someone help me with this, maybe a good blown-up diagram? My eyes ain't what they used to be!

Thanks,
Gary

There's probably quite a few here at TSG with that problem. I purchased a good pair of reading glasses, a decent magnifying glass, & a small but very bright LED flashlight. It also helps if you have good natural light from a window. I often use the kitchen counter as a work area. Plenty of natural & artificial light available.

Having a patient helper to assist with holding a light & has younger eyes is a plus.

Getting a respectable blowup MB pic will probably require considerable Google searching.

I am trying to get the front usb's working on a K7VZA motherboard without success. the wires from the case are single and are coloured 2 reds 2 blacks a blue green white and yellow. the white has 1-D on it one red has 1 + D blue is 1 + D and the black is 1 ground. green red yellow and black all have the number 2 on them the other marks are the same as the 1's. Ive tried starting from pin 1 r red white blue black and left pin 1 red yellow green and black can't get it to work though I did get the message on one port that a devise wasn't working. Anybody help?

A:Usb2 wires

There is no point in trying the wires randomly. You will end up with a fried USB device.

Look up the pinout of the USB header for your motherboard that will tell you what signal goes to what pin. It should be somewhere in the manual or on the manufacturers website.

Hi. I recently opened up my PC to check on some connections, and in order to get at them I took out my TV tuner card. I discovered, much to my amazement and shock, that the Cable TV coaxial cable was "buzzing". It seemed to be vibrating slightly, and I felt a tingling sensation on my finger, as if there were some electric current running through the cable that was strong enough to be very noticable, but not dangerous. This was on the outer sleeve. I took the cable by the plastic coating to try to put it back on the TV tuner's jack, and the inner "spike" made a small spark when it touched the tuner's jack. Now, I know that there is obviously some current running through a cable wire to transmit the picture, but I have NEVER seen a wire with this much electricity, and am pretty "freaked out". I'd like to know what this could mean, and what to do about it. Thanks!

A:Buzzing wires, help please!

This is a symptom of an improperly grounded cable system. My advice to you is to contact your cable provider and get it check into.

Hi,

I have a block of office where by mistake the ethernet cables where cut by the construction guys.

However, on the side of the HP switch (in our server room) the wires are still connected - since we don't know exactly which wire terminates where.

Does that cause any kind of issue or represent any risk?

Thanks

A:Ethernet Wires Cut

As long as you don't mix power or telephone cables with the cut wires, there's no significant risk. Time to start fixing cables.

Hey

I figured out how to make my fans go slower by cutting yellow and black and leaving red, then leaving the black disconnected and connecting the black to the yellow from fan to connector.
Is it possible to make it go even slower?

Second thing is I also have a 2 pin fan, is it possible to mod that as well to go slower?

~Kilomil

A:Modding wires on fan

A 120ohm resistor will slow a fan down enough to make it almost silent!!

Hello everyone! So I have an HP Notebook g2 and recently the part of the metal that connects the monitor part towards the keyboard and everything else was destroyed. No problem however since I could still use it. However, after a while the monitor had stopped working (or rather it is faint and I can see it if I flash a light over it but barely), when I looked into the wires that were hidden where that piece of metal once was some of the wires were cut and it seems they will no longer work. My question is  what are those wires, and what can I do to fix it? My warrenty already expired so I just want to buy anything I need to before sending it to a friend.

Hi, I've got no idea what is your machine. Please use the following instructions to find out the model/product of your machine:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108 Knowing your machine, I may be able to send you part list and you can work out what is it. Specially what is the metal part which I have no clue at all.Regards.
