Displayport-HDMI cable strange behaviour

Q: Displayport-HDMI cable strange behaviour

So i got a new pc along these lines:
Kontron KTQM87(its a mobo with an integrated intel i7 4860EQ and an iris pro 5200)
8 gigs of hyperx blue 1600mhz ram
Bitfenix whisper 450w
and i already have a LG 24MP55.

My motherboard has 3 Displayport 1.2 outputs. I red the manual which stated that it supports a passive Displayport-HDMI adatper so i got a maleDP-maleHDMI cabel.(My monitor has 1 HDMI and 1 DSUB port).
When i connect my pc to the monitor i get no signal. The HDMI port on my monitor works, it's hooked up to my older pc right now. The curious part is that if i use a HDMI-DVI adapter on the HDMI end of the cabel and connect it to my brother's monitor using the DVI end everything works fine.
Sadly i dont have a femaleDVI-maleDSUB adapter on hand. I restarted everything numerous times and checked if all the cabels are pluged in correctly.

TLDR: DP port on monitor->DP-HDMI cabel->HDMI port on monitor= NO SIGNAL
DP port on monitor->DP-HDMI cabel->HDMI-DVI adapter->DVI port on monitor = WORKS

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I purchased a MiniDP to HDMI cable that is capable of 4k resolution. I hooked it up to my X1 (Gen1, model 3444-G7U) laptop into my LG TV (which also supports 4k). I can't get the TV to go above 1080p! Again, the TV is brand new and 4k capable, the MiniDP to HDMI cable is 4k capable, and it's connected from my X1 laptop's MiniDP port.

Are there any adapters to do this or ways to do this? I can't seem to find any.

I am buying new monitors, the dell u2414h. Now, while this does have hdmi, I will be connecting multiple monitors together to extend the display from the laptop to give me multiple screens. The problem with this is that it only works if you use displayport and not hdmi, so I need a way to convert the hdmi to displayport or mini displayport.

I will primarily be using these monitors with my laptop that has displayport, so that is why I am getting these monitors and that won't be a problem. I will most likely hook up other laptops to the monitors and hdmi is way more common from what I have seen on laptops than displayport and is why I need a way to go from hdmi to displayport or mini displayport.

Any ideas? Thanks.

A:Hdmi to Displayport/Mini Displayport

You can't, HDMI does not support daisy chaining in the manner that DisplayPort does and you can't use a simply adapter to go from HDMI to DisplayPort and get the features of DisplayPort.

Ok I?ve seen several pages on the issue but most are DisplayPort on monitor to hdmi on computer. I have the nvidia 1070 graphics card and only have one hdmi port and prefer to use that one from tv to watch movies with family while still being able to mess with stuff on computer. Well I bought a new monitor on cyber Monday and just realized it was vga and hdmi output. My question is can I but the hdmi to display port adapter from dell and it work with DisplayPort on computer and hdmi on monitor. I ask cause the discription reads as only working DisplayPort on monitor to hdmi computer.

How do you know the TV is detecting the signal if it is displaying a "No Signal" message?

If the TV has more than one input, have you confirmed that the HDMI input from the computer is selected?

According to HP, your computer is an older model that came with either Windows 7 or Windows Vista.

In either case, it is possible that the computer is booting up with a video resolution and/or refresh rate that is incompatible with your TV. You could try booting in Safe Mode and see if you get a usable display. Here are HP's instructions for WIndows Vista:

And for Windows 7:

If that works, you can then experiment with different resolutions and refresh rates. If one of the experiments results in a no signal message, wait up to about 30 seconds without touching any keys or mouse buttons and the computer should revert to the previous settings. The resolution should be set to the native resolution of the TV's screen and the fastest refresh rate possible.

So I have a Thinkpad T510 with NVIDIA Quadro NVS 3100M with a VGA out and Displayport out. Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

For the past few months I have simply just used a VGA cord from the VGA out to the tv and used external speakers for my tv setup.

I recently bought a Displayport to HDMI adapter so I can pass both video and sound to my tv digitally.

Video and sound passthrough works just fine, my laptop picks the tv as a secondary display. But I can`t get it to run at 1080p. Over VGA it automatically set itself to 1920x1080 and never had an issue. Now over HDMI, it picks up at 1360x768 50Hz. NVIDIA control panel recognizes 1920x1080 as native but when I set it to that setting, the screen edges are cut off (top, bottom, left right), they are off the screen. I`ve read this is what is called "overscan", but I`m no television expert. I tried resizing the screen but then another issue became apperent, green dots all over the green like snow, in different positions as time passes.

I have ruled out the new DP to HDMI adapter by pluggging my laptop with the same adapter and hdmi cord to my ASUS VH222H monitor through its own HDMI input, automatically runs at 1080p with sound with none of the above issues.

I have spent a few hours reading through similar topics on this forum and others but most conclude with driver update. Unforunately since Lenovo opted out of Nvidia`s driver program, Im stuck with Lenovo`s driver which is quite old (Sept 2010) so thats off the table. I`ve re... Read more

Hello & welcome to sevenforums,

What's about duplicate the laptop screen over the Hdmi cable in the Windows 7 display settings, not your video card drivers?
So the laptop will be overscan, but not the digital TV that will have the full screen without any black borders or cutted edges.

But looks the duplicate display will stay at 1366x768 / 60hertz, 32bits colors.

Hi All I've got a Helix 2, which I'm happy with. I was thinking of getting a couple of external monitors so I can be more productive when working from home. So there's a mini-HDMI connection on the actual tablet for adding 1 additional monitor - fair enough. On the Pro keyboard there's a handy DisplayPort connector, which I assume is version 1.2 so I can theoretically drive up to 4 additional 1080p monitors. From my limited knowledge of these things, this connector could either be driven by a USB graphics card inside the Pro keyboard or could use the GPU inside the Helix (I believe the latter is the best method for less lag and faster refresh rates). It seems like no one knows exactly what method Lenovo utilises but either way, giving me two different connection options makes lots of sense! However, I'm puzzled by why they opted for a HDMI connection on the tablet dock. This only allows for one external monitor meaning I'd have to plug in a USB graphics card to drive additional monitors. Why is this?

A:HDMI and DisplayPort Question

Ah, it appears to be because the tablet dock was also for the thinkpad 10, which doesn't support DisplayPort. So Lenovo re-used existing kit rather than bring out kit more suited for the Helix 2. Very annoying.

I am looking at going to a GTX1080 GPU from my current 980, but am having a problem getting information. Currently I am running from HDMI ports over 3 monitors at 1920*1080, and 1 at 4k. The 1080 only has 1 HDMI and 3 displayport 1.4, so I will need new cables. I only have HDMI 2.0 ports on the monitors, so its going to be a conversion job.

Question is, whats the best way to set up? From the 980 I was running straight HDMI leads, but dont know if it is better to run all monitors off HDMI/Displayport cables, or run the 4k off the HDMI. I also have a Vive that needs a port, and again this would be preferable to install directly.

The problem is that info seems to be scarce on the actual capabilities of each port setup. (I.e. resolution, FPs, and the croosover from DP to HDMI). Anyone got any knowledge and can suggest a setup? Thanks in advance.

A:Displayport and HDMI questions

HDMI for one, DisplayPort to HDMI cables or adapters for the other two. There's no benefits to use DisplayPort to HDMI over straight HDMI, but there shouldn't be any negatives either, other then buying the adapters.

I replaced my monitor with a Dell that has VGA, DVI and DisplayPort. My PC outputs VGA or HDMI, so I'm using an HDMI to DVI cable(previous monitor is VGA and DVI only). My only gripe with this cable is that the DVI end is hard to attach/remove. I can get HDMI-DisplayPort cables or adapters, this would be so much easier to deal with than trying to screw that DVI cable in place, but I need to know if outputting HDMI into the DisplayPort is going to cause any issues with picture quality.

I see either dedicated cables or converter boxes on eBay, converter box would be cheaper and I can use whatever HDMI cable I have on hand.

I am trying to connect the HDMI port on my nVidia GeForce GT 640 video card to the DisplayPort input on my HP Compaq L2206tm monitor. This is the reverse of what is expected by cable fabricators who have lots of cables and adapters for the opposite configuration, i.e., DP on the videocard and HDMI input on the monitor. There seems to be a uni-directional vs bi-directional issue involved with DP, but I don't quite understand it. Anyway, the uni-directional choices I am seeing are in the wrong direction. Anybody dealt with this and what is your advice for me?

Hey guys. I'm trying to connect my HP Elitebook 8440p to my Toshiba flatscreen TV using a Displayport to HDMI connector. The video works no problem, but sadly there is no sound

I've put in about 2-3 hours trying to google solutions on my own to no avail. From what I have read, I should see an 'HDMI out' option in my playback devices list, but all I see are 'Speakers / HP IDT High definition audio CODEC' and 'Headphones (RTC) IDT High definition audio CODEC.' I have both show disabled and show disconnected devices enabled.

If I open up my nvidia control panel and select the 'Set up digital audio' option, I have the option to select my TV, but when I hit apply I still get no sound and no additional options appear in my playback devices list.

As far as I can tell all of my drivers are up to date.

A:Displayport->HDMI sound issues.

It's possible that audio over DP isn't supported in your model.

I don't know that it will be shown as "HDMI" as it's not an HDMI port. It could be something like "Digital Audio (HDMI)", but that's just a guess. You can check to see if there are any devices not being displayed. If you right click on the speaker in the taskbar -> playback devices. Right click the white space and select the option for "Show Disconnected Devices" and "Show Disabled Devices".

Wondering if anyone else has/had this problem?  I have a Lenovo Twist Ultrabook.  I believe it is also listed as a Thinkpad S230.  It has both a displayport and an HDMI port.  I have the displayport connected to a monitor using a DP-HDMI cable, and the HDMI port connected to an older monitor using an HDMI-DVI cable.  Either one will work on its own, but when both are connected both screens immediately go black. I also tried using an HDMI splitter cable on the HDMI port.  It works, but the display will only show mirror mode - not extended mode. When I look in the BIOS for display settings, it gives me 3 options: the local screen, and then to select either of the ports (but not both!) when docked. Anyone have any ideas? any feedback or suggestions greatly appreciated!

Hello. Did you see our HDMI Audio FAQ? If not, scroll down to the Precision M4400 entry and see if the instructions from PAS-Chris do any good.

I have taken advice and got a actv. display port to HDMI adapter. I've plugged the HDMI cable into TV. What happens is the desktop screen appears on TV but not exactly as it does on VDU at the same time- some icons (Google Earth etc) which are on the screen rather than small icons in bottom bar are not there. And then nothing else happens: no google home page or anything- just the desktop. When I turn off computer the desktop on TV goes away, so some signal is getting through.

Hi, I just brought a Dell USB 3.0 Ultra HD Triple Video Docking Station D3100 p/n 452-BBOO / 4N2PF and connected it up to XPS 13 and all works fine/first time except the HDMI/DVI converter which came with it.  I am only using one screen but I guess the HDMI/DVI conversion is only to single link as 2048x1152 is the max resolution I can see.
First question - does this make sense of have I missed something?
Second question - is there a way to get the D3100 DisplayPort or HDMI to send Dual Link to my DVI screen sharing set up at 2560x1440?
Thanks in advance, Peter
Note if I directly connect dock HDMI to Screen HDMI I can see 2560x1440 @ 60Hz but I am using a KVM switch to share the screen between a few other PCs too so I don't want to do this as a permanent set up!

Hi,I have a X240 Laptop (ThinkPad) - Type 20AMS05D00.I connected an Asus monitor with integrated speakers to the mini displayport with an mini displayport to hdmi adapter.I'm using windows 10. The display is shown good, but i can't get any sound output...The external device is not listed in the device manager and not in the playback device section (right click on sound symbol in the bottom right corner). At this moment i tried to turn it off and on again..., uninstall audio drivers, check if there are new drivers with lenovo update tool, updated all other drivers and restarted the windows audio service (it was running). When i change to Ubuntu 14.04 the sound output is working fine! So i think it should be a driver problem. Are there any solutions for this?
