Q: Keyboard keys A,S,D,F,J,K,L,; And the Enter keys not workin...

They do come and go sometimes. After I sprayed some air to try to clear dust and crumbs it worked for a lil while but then started back. I do still see dust and will keep cleaning. Sometimes the keys are slow to respond or not work at all. It was working fine til a couple days ago. I even reinstalled the operating systems and still doing this. All the rest of the keys work fine except for a few in that row. I dont know if it was a update that caused this or a hardware problem but id like to get it working right agaln.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi 6750ccc,

I would suggest you to bring up the On Screen Keyboard (OSK) and try using it to check if the ‘G’ and ‘H’ keys on the system work to isolate if the issue is related to hardware or software.

Also, please connect an external USB keyboard to the system and check if it works.

hi,
i'm having a problem with my toshiba laptop keyboard. about a week ago i noticed i was no longer able to use the control key to copy and paste, but i rarely use that key for anything else, so i didn't think much of it except that i must've accidently changed some command. now, my shift key isn't working--as you can tell from the lack of capitalization in this. i think this is a different problem than what was addressed in earlier posts about shift key problems in toshiba laptops. in my case, the shift key worked only sporadically. currently, it's not working at all. first the right one stopped working, now the left one isn't working either. there doesn't seem to be any pattern to when they do/don't work, so it seems unlikely that these keys suddenly got stuck or something. i'm checking for viruses now. does anyone have any other ideas? (now it's working...that's so strange, and annoying).
Thanks,
Laurel

Hi i am hoping someone can help with my problem.  I have a G505 laptop for over a year now.  About two months ago some keys on the right hand side of the keyboard stopped working.  Mainly the shift key, enter key, return key.  Other keys around these working fine.  I cannot use Word or type emails now and rely on the onscreen keyboard to compete return or enter functions which is painful.  Also, sometimes when I boot the laptop up, the screen is very dark.  The only way to rectify this is to reboot (sometimes several times) or for some reason if I plug in a HDMI cable to link laptop to TV, the brightness returns straight away. I would be very grateful for any guidance on these issues. Many thanks in advance and kind regards,JB

I have tried rebooting from last date update in control panel but problem is older than last date available.  I have also tried to shut down, use recovery key to call up recovery menu but i cannot select system recovery as i need the enter/return key to do so!!!!!!  Im so frustrated at this point.  Please any suggestions to above issue???  Thanks in advance.  PS  onscreen keyboard works for return/enter if that helps any.

Hello there. Yesterday, I bought the Ideapad 310-15isk, and it's phenomenal in many aspects. However, I'm a bit bothered by the extensive keyboard this laptop has, most importantly, the pagination commands on the arrow keys. I've been meaning to find a solution to disable those and just make them work on the Numpad since it's really bothersome to type on and then go all the way back because of the return pagination key. Is there any solution for this to unbind those commands only on the arrow keys?

This is an odd issue that I have not found anyone else having. I am not sure as to the cause of it.

Basically, when I press certain pairs of keys, the computer acts as though another key is being pressed as well.
Some examples:
q+s: qws
w+d: wed
r+y: ryu
k+u: kui
l+i: lio

There are others, as well as ones with 3 keys triggering a fourth. They follow no general pattern (although wd, qs, ku, and li are the same pattern
on the keyboard, that pattern doesn't cause a similar response on other keys, like ef, rg, th, yj, etc.)

This problem has persisted as long as I have had this laptop. I got it used on Amazon. It said that, in terms of condition, it just had a few minor
scratches and such, which is accurate.

This occurs every time the keys are pressed at the same time (in fact, while typing this, I was constantly having to correct typos such as "everyu",
"lioke",  and "whiole".)

Hi, Try the following. Download the AMD HD Graphics installer on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74501-75000/sp74716.exe When done, open your Downloads folder, right click the AMD Graphics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Start the notebook and let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

Hey guys,

I'm having a really big problem with my keyboard. I'm running windows 7. The problem started about four days ago, I've searched for various ways to solve this problem but I couldn't find any.

The issue is that randomly, my keyboard will stop typing keys and every time I hit a key, instead of typing a key, it would act as if I was hitting a shortcut. Such as, when it happens i hit the "F" key and the tools options come up. This happens on every windows even on MSN messenger, I hit my keys and it hits shortcut keys for the window I'm on.

I would be using my computer for a while and the keys would work fine but then a little later, somethings 30 minutes sometimes an hour or two, randomly they turn into shortcut keys. Every key i hit, I tried a new keyboard but it seems to happen also. I don't get the issue, I've scanned fully using malwareBytes, MCAffee, and Advanced system pro, but it's still happening. It's really frustrating and annoying when it does happen. I've turned my keyboard off and on, re sync'd. I'm starting to lean more towards it being a virus or something that messed with my settings somehow.

Malwayre Bytes did find something while scanning

files\Spigot\wtxpcom\components\widgitoolbarff.dll (Adware.WidgiToolbar) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

A:Keyboard keys randomly turn into shortcut keys

I would also like to add that, when this occurs. I have to restart my computer for the keyboard to work correctly. It's wireless & I've tried a wired keyboard also, it's the same issue.

Also when this happens, while on the internet. Every time I click a link or the internet like "home" "news" anything at all on the internet even an image, it won't go to it but instead it will download the data into my computer... It's very strange & I'm completely stumped on what to do. Or to even search this on google for other similar issues, I don't even know how I would go around to search that. Or what I would type in the search bar. This happens with both Firefox & google chrome. Even outside the internet in just my desktop, it's impossible to type even on notepad.

Hi, I bought my ThinkPad E560 just over a month ago and have noticed several problems.  For this post, I'll concentrate on the problem with the Fn and Shift keys on my keyboard either behaving strangely or not working.  The two problems below only began today. 1) I found out that pressing Fn + F1 no longer turns the speakers on/off. I believe there is supposed to be a green light on the upper right hand corner of the Fn button, but it has disappeared. Now, when I press Fn + F1, I either get no response or the Windows Help window appears. However, now by pressing F1 alone I can turn the speakers on/off. The same seems to apply to all the other F keys on the top row. That's actually more convenient for me because it allows me to turn on/off the speakers by just pushing one key, but that's not supposed to be normal for this model.2) When I use MS-Word, I found that the Thesaurus no longer activates when I press Shift + F7. What comes on is the "Manage external displays" function (Computer only, Duplicate, Extend, Projector only), which appears to correspond to F7 (alone). If I want Thesaurus, I have to press the button on Word's Review tab.All these problems seem to point to a BIOS problem, but I don't recall tinkering with the BIOS and I'm afraid to mess with it now because I'm not great with computers. What do you think I should do?

Hi,

I am using a Razer Arctosa keyboard on my desktop computer running Win7 (keyboard is approx 2 years old).

I am experiencing the following (recently, and sometimes it occasionally goes back to normal):

Pressing "w" registers "w4"
Pressing "W" (shift + w) registers "W$"
Pressing "4" registers "w4"
Pressing "$" (shift + 4) registers "W$"
(As if "w" and "4" are linked; occasionally it registers as "4w")

Pressing "u" registers "u" and F5.
(which means when I am typing and press the "u" it refreshes my page... this is the second time I am writing this...)

Pressing the Windows key registers NumLock toggle.

Pressing "7" registers "/7"

This is all of the weird ones I have noticed. All other keys seem normal.
As I type this it has done the above, but now it is back to normal. Cannot find a pattern when it decides to change from crap to normal. It is back to crap again.
This is the 4th day since it started and the computer has been restarted/shutdown various times.
I have also checked for malware and it is all clear.
The most recent keyboard drivers have been downloaded and installed, but did not fix it.
No liquids have been spilled.
Have searched the web and have not encountered a solution (or someone with the exact kind of problem).
Anyone has any idea of a fix or what may be affecting it?

Thanks,
Destinknee

A:Keyboard: some keys registering 2 keys

Pretty much every time I see this it's due to something spilled on the keyboard that has damaged it or just a keyboard that has failed.

Test it on another computer, if it does the same thing then it needs to be replaced. On the other computer don't load any drivers or software for it just plug it in and wait for Windows to install it's drivers for it and test it.

I broke one of the "feet" on my old E-Machines PS/2 keyboard I have used for years and like. I also use one at work that's pretty close to the same layout. I am looking everywhere for a keyboard with a large "enter" and "backspace" I can't find one. I don't care if it's USB or PS/2 but hate the "flat" type that ship with computers these days you look at the key to hard and it presses. I have HUGE hands and like the "old style" keyboard that you have to press pretty hard on the keys (like an actual spring under them) Do any of you know of a specialty keyboard shop or somewhere else with a big selection? I have looked all over the internet on the "major" places. (i.e. Newegg, TigerDirect, BestBuy, Wal-Mart, etc...)

If anyone knows of a place that has "old style" keyboards please let me know. I may have to settle but for such a small purchase that I use so much, I'd like to get what I want and I can't be the only one with massive hands having these same issues. The world isn't made for us big guys.

As the title says, the escape and enter keys do not work in some games. I have just purchased a new laptop and in NFS:Most Wanted and Burnout Paradise (the MENUS), escape does not work. When I am actually in the game, driving I CAN use escape to pause(bring up menu). The enter key however does not work AT ALL in these games.
There was a third game as well (not a driving game), in which they do not work, but I do not remember which one.
I also play a lot of Football Manager 2009, and the escape and enter keys work fine!

It's not a SERIOUS problem as most games allow the use of the mouse to click 'continue' or whatever, but they two keys ARE convenient! So what do I do?

Hello Everybody, My ENTER & TAB are not functioning. I ruled out a hardware issue by removing my MS wireless laser 6000 v.2 keyboard and installing a Logitech Wireless Keyboard. The ENTER & TAB key would not work on either keyboard. I have made sure the drivers were updated. The most recent software change was installing MS Office 2010. The problems did not coincide with this problem though. Rather the issue arose a few days later. The ENTER key functions when I type my Windows PW. Once I'm logged on, the keys no longer function. However, when I run the intellitype diagnostic for my keyboard. The tool recognized whenever I press the ENTER or TAB key. Therefore Windows indicates that the keyboard is functioning normally. I've tried system restores. Deactivating certain programs, and even rolling back drivers. However, it apparently is unlikely to be a driver issue since changing drivers & logitech drivers did not help. Clipmate Plus, Download Accelerator Plus, Comodo firewall, and Rapid Key are other newer programs. I'm thinking maybe there is some kind of Windows software side issue as in a corrupted registry, software conflicts somewhere, etc. I do run a program called Revo uninstaller & Registry Cleaners. Both of those make deletions and adjustments to the registry. I read a recent article that it's never a good idea to use any program that "cleans" the register. Is that correct?

A:ENTER & TAB keys do not function - hardware issue ruled out

Hi -

No, Registry Cleaners are not good to run and may in fact damage the OS. Some have come in here with BSODs after registry "cleaning".

I consider myself at a intermediate to advanced level with computers and usually figure out solutions myself but i am lost with this one, i have done a search and am not finding anything really pertaining to my problem. Yesterday my boss was using hotmail to view some pictures sent to him from a trusted friend. hotmail uses trend micro for thier scan so we assumed that they were safe. upon opening the third picture something happened and things changed. Two questions:

1. This first one is a question about what two registry keys do. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > services > Tcpip > Parameters > DNSRegisteredAdapters > *Corresponding NIC*. What are the Flags, and RegisteredSinceBoot
keys? What do they do?
2. I attempt to change the values of these keys. They go back to their original values if I restart, log in, or run ipconfig /registerdns.

Here is some background. I am on an IT engineering, and I have been looking into a DNS issue we have had for quite some time. The issue is that our AD DNS server records do not update for about half of our machines. We have timestamps dating back a couple of
months (I know, I know, scavenge. The team in charge of that is in the process of getting that set). I have been looking into a multitude of things to ensure all computers' DNS records update.

In my testing, I have checked several machines and notice that those keys mentioned above have the values of- flags = 2, and registeredsinceboot = 1. On the computers that aren't updating their values are 0. I have attempted to change to 2 and 1 on a computer
that isn't updating, but the values always revert back to 0.

Perhaps the issue we are seeing isn't related at all to the keys presented, but if you can help me identify the purpose of these keys, and how to save the values if changed, that would be greatly appreciated. At least for testing purpose.

Hi everyone, The problem happened unexpectedly, i.e., I didn't install any software, didn't update the BIOS, didn't change the hardware. Just one morning after the laptop booted as usual (in Linux), the problem appeared and keeps on appearing every morning ever since. The problem: each key on the column "9-o-l-." when pressed started to activate (also) another key on the keyboard: "9" activates F11, "o" increases the audio volume,  "l" mutes the audio speaker, and "." mutes the microphone. This is even visible on the keyboard LEDs "Speaker muted" and "Microphone muted."The problem appears consistently in both Windows and Linux, and even before any OS boots (on the BIOS/Setup screen). However, after the laptop works for about an hour, the problem disapears (i.e., the keys don't activate other keys) and it does not appear until the next time I boot on the next day. I ran the keyboard tests on Windows and they passed.Strangely enough, Shift +(problematic key) works correctly, i.e., gives the uppercase character of the corresponding key. However, Alt+(problematic key) gives the same problem as without Alt.The following workaround works: I disable (in Linux) the shortcuts for the affected audio controls, so when "o" or "l" is pressed, the expected character "o" or "l" gets properly typed and is shown. Key "." cannot be deactivated as shortcut, but it both mutes the speaker and also correctly types "." (so annoying, but workable). Thus, it appears that when key "o" is pres... Read more

Check the Keyboard Language Settings, it's down by the Clock. Press "ENG" and a language prefs panel pops up. I'll bet you have it set for a UK keyboard, or other country. You can do this with the mouse so no key presses are rquired - But if you have to, press the Enter key which is associated with the Num Lock Keypad, it should be shown with alternate colours, you press the FN key to get to them,

Malwarebytes pardons Pirates and gives away free one year premium license keys. Malwarebytes Corporation is after the counterfeit keys, they?re running ?Amnesty key? program with which, if Malwarebytes Program detects abused, pirated or counterfeit keys during the upgrade to version 2.1.8, then the user will be presented with a special screen (Locate your license key) with two options (check the screenshot below).

Selecting the first ? ?I?m not sure where I got key from, or I downloaded it from the Internet? ? or second option ??I purchased my key?? will issue users a new and unique key of Malwarebytes anti-Malware premium, which user can use for one year or 12 months for free.

If you don?t activate the key or click the ?Cancel? button, then you?ll remain on the free version.

Next go to ?My Account? screen, note down the new key, your old key will be disabled after a period of time. This way, Malwarebytes disables all the pirated keys and, those who got Premium keys will enjoy one year protection and can renew if they desire when they about to expire.

What is Malwarebytes Amnesty Program?

The program page says ?The Internet is full of pioneers and cowboys. It?s also got its fair share of pirates and trolls. Some of those bad guys may have duped you into purchasing a counterfeit version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Or perhaps we?ve simply detected a problem with your key. Not to worry. We?re here to help.?

Hello,How can I get the home and end keys near the arrow keys on my keyboard without losing page up and page down?I'm a power screen reader user and use the home and end keys once every 5 minutes and I use the computer for around 9-10 hours a day. This means there is a whole lot of moving my hand from the arrow keys to the top of the keyboard. After a day of using my new laptop, my arm is starting to hurt from moving from the bottom to the top of the keyboard so much. What most manufacturers do is have fn+left be home and fn+right be end. They also have fn+up be page up and fn+down be page down. I would love this! Currently the page up and page down keys are right above the arrow keys. FN + page up and down being mapped to home and end would be great as well. I can't figure out how to map fn keystrokes using something like Auto Hot Key though. I would be OK with swapping the home and end keys with the page up and down keys, but I can't figure out how to do that either. Auto Hot Key does not work 100% of the time and I need this functionality 100% of the time. What method would be the best for me to get home and end by the arrow keys?

Hey Everyone

Started typing on my internal laptop keyboard today and reliased that mainly keys a b and n were not working.
So I decided to clean them by taking off the key and white holder, then used a cloth to clean all the dust etc.. both under the rubber button and around it. This still didn't work however, so I then decided to uninstall and reinstall the driver as well. However this didn't work either.

Its probably best to try and buy a new one off e-bay, but before I do this does anyone else have any suggestions?

Also interesting, a b and n seems to be a popular combination of keys for other toshiba laptops that don't seem to be working... (Using a USB keyboard atm to type which works fine)

Thanks

In my data base, I have one main table related to many slave tables in one-to-many relationships. I would like the primary key in the main table to populate to the other tables, as a foriegn key, without having to type it in each time I create a record in one of the other slave tables. Any ideas?

A:Solved: Populating primary keys as foriegn keys into tables.

Jiimandjo, welcome to the Forum.
Well you should be using Forms & Subforms for your data entry. When you link the Main form (based on the main table) to the Subform via the master key/foriegn key Access auto populates the foriegn key for you as soon as you enter soem data in to the subform.
