Preferred Solution: Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2656353) AND (KB2698023)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I was running a number of automatic updates, most of them installed, "Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2698023)" did not. I just keep receiving "Error Code: 0x643".So far I've tried a number of fixes to no avail.I cannot really remember the exact links, But I tried two different Microsoft FixIts intended for similar problems:MicrosoftFixit.wu.LB.23276429008175881.2.1.RunMicrosoftFixit.ProgramInstallUninstall.MATSKB.RunI've also tried Miscrosoft's NetFxRepairTool. And finally I tried installing the newest version of Windows Installer and getting the file manually, but when I go to install "NDP1.1sp1-KB2698023-X86" it just keeps telling me "The feature you are trying to use is on a network service that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'netfx.msi' in the box below." and it shows me this box where I can browse for a location. I have no idea what the location would be, or even if what it wants is actually on this computer. On a side note. I've been having this message pop up in my browser allot lately: "Security Warning. A:Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Wi

Try temporarily disabling your antivirus application and if you have a third-party firewall installed, enable the Windows firewall temporarily but disable the third-party one.

This has solved the same problem for many other people according to what I've read elsewhere on other forums. Seems to be a common problem with Net Framework updates.

If this solves the problem and the update installs okay, you can re-enable your antivirus and third-party firewall, but remember to disable the Windows firewall as having two firewalls running together is not advisable.

Despite the other issues with the .cab files being digitally signed (and not) -- I've discovered that it also doesn't recognize KB3197867 as missing/needed.

I use another patch management service that indicates that the patch is needed, however the MBSA doesn't show this file as missing -- and therefore it doesn't install.

This patch is not already installed on my system, and if I download an install it manually it's fine -- but the issue is that the MBSA isn't showing it as missing.

Is this a known issue? Or does anyone else have this issue?

This occurring on both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

Hi everybody.

As we all know, Windows Vista is no longer supported by Microsoft in any way, shape or form. This means there will be no more updates for it. There is some good news, though. Due to Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 sharing the same codebase, it is possible to install WS2008 security updates on Vista. This way you might be able to receive security updates until January 2020.

In this thread, I will compile a list of monthly updates for WS2008, and provide feedback on how the installation process went on a virtual machine running Win Vista x64. If you're interested and want to take this opportunity, be my guest, though be advised that while the updates will most likely install successfully, you're still doing this at your own risk.

Please note that if you are having problems with Windows Update taking hours or days to check for updates, and/or consuming your CPU, please check this thread.

So without further ado, this is a list of WS 2008 updates for the month of May 2017 that I attempted to install on Win Vista. In general I've provided Microsoft Update Catalog links which allow you to choose either the 32 bit or 64 bit version, however, for .Net installers, I've provided direct download links separately to avoid Microsoft's stupid and confusing bundling of updates, which lumps updates with different KB numbers together. You will need to download them and install manually, as Windows Update will NOT find them. Vista is... Read more

Hi,

Been trying to get a answer to a very simple question but couldn't find anything conlcusive.

Basically i am wondering if you would be able to install .net Framework 1.1 in a Windows Small Business Server 2008.

From what i can tell .net Framework is 32bit and SBS 2008 is a 64 bit native operating system. Cannot run 32bit applications?

I would appreciate if someone can tell for sure if i am right on my assumptions.

Thanks!

We monitor the RPC preformance and checked the

MSExchangeIS\RPC Averaged Latency is keeping more than 20. Sometime is 50.
After we remove the patch. The preformance seems resume normal.
I checked the update known issue had no relate mention on my issue.
We would like to install the security update and we want to know which update is the root cause on the server performance.
Does someone face the same issue?
Or someone already get the solution?

Hello,

I have an ADSL router with 20 computers on a LAN network, I just purchased a server with Windows Server 2008 installed on it.

I have Forefront TMG installed and I want to use it for web caching, bandwidth allocating .. etc.

After excruciating nights, I managed to get it to work through the steps mentioned here:
http://microsoftguru.com.au/2010/03...nd-configure-forefront-tmg-2010-step-by-step/

The problem is, when I have to use a proxy server in the client's browser (10.0.0.1:8080) some services start acting up (like Windows live messenger and others) plus I will have to do a lot of modifications on the client.

I was wondering are there some steps I can follow to setup Forefront TMG so that the clients can use the internet through it without the need of a proxy server?
I googled the hell out of it with no result.

Any help would be appreciated.
Regards.

Edit: It's an (x64) server so I can't use ISA server.

I have a server that stopped updating a couple of months ago.  I have tried various fixes, like resetting Windows Update components, running running SFC repair, etc, with no avail.  When you check for updates, the Windows Update service stops and
the check continues forever!  If I try downloading a specific update and installing it, even KB947821 (Windows Update Readiness), Windows Update service stops and the standalone installer fails with code 0x8024001e.  Running the WindowsUpdate.diagcab
says it's resolving problems, but upon completion, still says not fixed for Windows Update error 0x80080005.  This is a healthcare system that has a monthly downtime for patching, otherwise I can't restart it at will.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, is there anything specific you suggest doing to windows server 2008 before use? I've downloaded updates, but don't really understand the roles. What i want my server to do is let me log on, from any of my home PCs, as "nappymonster", access all my files, print to our printer, etc. And the same for 3 other accounts on about 6 computers.

Hi
I've been having problems for the past month with .dll files claiming to be missing and it's completely messed up my system, I'm unable to use any function of windows media viewer/player, almost no games on steam work anymore either.

I looked around for ages and tried as much as I could and not a single thing worked, then a few weeks ago I stumbled across my windows update history and found out these updates have continuously failed (Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5, 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 on Windows 7, Vista, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 x64).

I've seen a very similar post made by nimanouri here about 3 months ago but I'm not entirely sure if my issues are the same, I've run the sfc /scannow and received the message "Windows Resource Protection found some corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them"

I've attached the CBS log file

Hello,
I created the following performance counter using logman.exe.

logman.exe create counter US_Triton_Perf_Log -b 9/23/2015 09:30:00 -e 9/30/2099 18:30:00 -r -s $server -si $frequence -cf $folder\$server.txt -f $logtype  -o C:\local\logs\Perfout_$Server --a -v mmddhhmm  -rf  $max_duration

When I do this across multiple servers specifically for Windows Servers 2008/2012, the counter is created to repeat and run everyday at 930PM and stops running everyday at 430PM. This works perfectly fine as intended. However, When I do this for a Windows
2003 server, my created counter is very different.
For example, in this case, I have set to the counters to start at 930AM and end at 1830PM, because I have set a maximum duration of 9 hours, the job terminates and begins on the next day, since I have the repeat option on. However, this does not apply to
our 2003 server; logman creates the job to run once a week in this case it would be on a Wednesday. In addiiton, I noticed that the job doesn't not even start at it's indented time. It actually does not start at all. I also notice that the jobs on all windows
2003 servers are created in a pending status, which then prevents me from removing the counter remotely.

I would like to know if windows 2003 is capable of working like my win 2008/2012 servers using logman, and if historically, the job has to be kicked off through scheduled task.

Both Jobs are using the same criteria, but a... Read more

Hi guys,

I am having a lot of trouble with constant BSOD's on my hp dv6500 laptop. This started 1 month ago and has been bugging me since then. I thought the BSOD's were because of windows vista (home premium) and then installed windows server 2008 on my laptop. The BSOD's continue.

I am attaching 2 different files which contain minidumps of all the BSOD's on vista SP1 and Server 2008.

One of the reason of switch was that i though HP's drivers for vista were buggy. I am using most drivers on Server 2008 from microsoft apart from the NVIDIA drivers from HP, realtek sound drivers and wifi drivers from HP.

The config of machine is :

Core 2 duo T7300 2 GHZ
2 GB hynix RAM
TOSHIBA MK1637GSX ATA Device 160 GB
NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS 128MB
Microsoft USB Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 (IntelliPoint)
Motorola SM56 Data Fax Modem
Realtek RTL8101 Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)
Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
Realtek High Definition Audio
Symantec Endpoint Protection Antivirus

I am posting in vista section because i think the issue is related to vista since the problem began there. I think problem persists in server 2008 because of common code with vista.

Please let me know if you need any more information

Please help.

Thanks

Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue that I just noticed today. Originally, when I would click on links in Google, I would get redirected to some random advertisement site. That was a red flag to me, so I ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and went ahead and deleted whatever it found. Then, I started noticing that my Microsoft Security Essentials is not working. It says "Security Essentials is not monitoring your computer because the program's service stopped. You should restart it now." When I click to start it, I get the following message: "Couldn't start the Security Essentials service. The specified service does not exist as an installed service. Error code: 0x80070424." This raised another alarm for me as that usually is a sign of an infection, I believe. I then went to my control panel to check on Windows Update and noticed that the icon for it is just the red shield thing with an X in it. When I click to check for updates, I get: "Windows update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer." I also noticed a little bubble on the Windows Update screen that says, "Find out more about free software from (null). Click here for details." I can't say that I've ever seen that there before, so it's a bit suspicious. Lastly, when I go to check on Windows Firewall, I see it in red and saying "Windows Firewall is not using the recommended settings to ... Read more

Hello there. I thought I should share a list that I've made over on the MSFN forum called "Last versions of software for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008."

Link: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/175262-last-versions-of-software-for-windows-vista-and-windows-server-2008/

As the title implies, this is a comprehensive list of final versions of software to support Windows Vista/Server 2008. Also included is an "Ongoing support section" which as you can probably guess, lists software that continues to support/be updated on Windows Vista. The software listed is sorted into different categories (i.e. Web Browsers, Antivirus, etc.) for your convenience.

The list started out pretty small when I first posted it back in March of 2016, but it has since grown tremendously - mostly thanks to the close-knit Windows Vista community over at MSFN.org. By sharing it here, I hope to help out any Vista users still out there that might be having trouble finding out the last compatible version(s) of their favorite program(s), or perhaps they want to know what software still supports Vista.
All software listed has been tested by myself, as well as other Vista-using members over at MSFN to ensure their compatibility with Windows Vista before they were added to the list. For anything that requires additional updates be installed on Vista in order to run (such as Service Pack 2 or Platform Update), this is specified next to the software entry itself. Has anyone successfully got any Group Policy Preferences working, specifically Drive Maps? I think it applied my Local Users & Groups and my Folder Options preferences, but it definitely did not map my network drive. According to RSoP, there aren't even any "Preferences," but in GPMC (from RSAT), it shows the preferences were successfully applied.

I checked to ensure I had KB943729 installed for Vista X64, and it shows up in Installed Updates. I am lost, so if anyone has this working, please let me know.

I have a file server at home with a Quad core, 4gb ram, and a 3tb of storage. It is running Ubuntu Desktop and sharing video files primarily. From my school I have access to a free copy of Windows Server 2008 R2. Other than the server I have 2 Windows 7 desktops, 1 Windows 7 laptop and 1 Windows Vista laptop.

I am interested in moving to a Windows setup as I am done with the ?Ubuntu? experiment. WHS looks like what I need, but I have a free copy of WS 2008 and I would miss the $50 for WHS. My goals can be described best as:

Need to Haves:
? File/media server (local network)
? Dedicated game server for various games for friends.
? Print server

Nice to Haves:
? Music/Video Streaming over the internet
? Automatic backup server
? File server over the internet
? Ability to manager other PC?s from the server

My ability as an admin:
? No experience
? Willing to learn and put forth initial effort to get setup
? Don?t have time to really spend more than 1 day moving from Ubuntu to the new setup.
? Don?t want to be stuck constantly screwing with things to get it right or keep it running.

What is going to be best option for my situation?

A:Help choose: Windows Home Server 2011 vs. Windows Server 2008 R2

Honestly, I use both in their proper settings, and unless you have a domain at home with multiple users, Windows Server 2008 R2 is overkill...and would require much more tweaking and add-in apps to do what you want. Given your write-up, WHS 2011 is the way to go. It does much of what you want out of the box, and is designed for people who don't want to become server admins (or at least not be forced to).

Hi,

I purchased 2 new Dell OptiPlex 3010 desktop computers that came with Windows 7 Professional operating system with SP1. There were no Microsoft updates installed yet. After I added one of these Dell computers to the Windows Server 2008 Active Directory, I was not able to download several items. Below are several examples:

1) I downloaded the Norton anti-virus installation file. This file is not the full installation of Norton; it is more of a file where you execute it and it will download the full installation from the Internet like from their Norton web site. So when I executed this installation file, it does not download the full installation files. It just hung at the screen saying “Downloading” and it will finally stop with an error (don’t remember the error message).

Note: If I have the full Norton installation file then I am able to install it on this computer with no problems.

2) I downloaded the Adobe Reader installation file. This file is not the full installation of Adobe Reader; it is more of a file where you execute it and it will download the full installation from the Internet like from their Adobe web site. So when I executed this installation file, it hung at the downloading part and then it will error out with a “Actionlist Not Found” message.

Note: If I have the full Adobe Reader installation file then I am able to install it on this computer with no problems.

3) I installed Microsoft Office 2010 Standard version on this computer. I configured... Read more

A:AntiVirus for Dual Boot System -Windows 7/Windows Server 2008

Windows Defender will only run when the OS it is installed on is running.
So, for you it will only run when you boot up Windows Server.

Windows Defender is not an Anti Virus program.
It is Anti Malware and intended to run alongside a real-time Anti Virus program.

You might consider un-installing McAffe and using a different A/V such as Microsoft Security Essentials, Avast, etc...

Hello all, this is my first post on sevenforums. Though I've referred to sevenforums many a times, never registered because I always found similar questions posted by others.

Anyways, I'm preparing to dual boot my Windows 7 machine(already installed) with Windows Server 2008. I've discovered that booting from VHD is a great option and I found all the commands for it online. But before I do it, just want to make I'm doing it the right way.

Two of the commands for creating a VHD is:

Code:
CREATE VDISK FILE=c:\windows7rc.vhd MAXIMUM=200000 TYPE=EXPANDABLE
SELECT VDISK FILE=c:\windows7rc.vhd
I am not sure what does "c:\" in the command indicate.

I've attached a screen shot of my existing partitions. I have a partition of 97.66 GB which is unallocated on which I'd like to install Server 2008.

My question is do I need to change anything in the above command?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Guys,

I have Win7 Home Premium 32bit on my Laptop. I heard about installing Win 2008 Server(Not Windows Server 2008 R2 bcoz its 64bit and my Win7 is 32bit)on vhd in Win7.
My first question is, can I install Win server 2008 on vhd in Win7 HP 32bit. or I need other versions of Win7 like Professional or Ultimate. I tried installing Win Svr 2008 on vhd in Win7 Hp 32bit but did not work, this is what i did:

Created a new fixed size/extnedable vhd in win 7, initialized and attached the vhd. Then put win server 2008 dvd and ran setup inside win7, it asked me where to istall. I selected the newly created and formatted vhd drive(F). But it says load vhd HBA driver, i tired to find the driver online, in win7 and win svr 2008 cd but no joy. I dont know wether, win svr 2008 can be installed on a vhd in win7 Hp. I read online how to isntall win svr 2008 r2 on win7 ulitimate, by pressing SHIFT+F10 at install time and then doing something in diskpart and then doing dual boot with win7.

Do i need to updgrae my win 7 to professional or ultimate to accomplish this job or there is way to do with win7 HP. as vhd is just virtual, can any windows version be istalled on vhd.

My main thing i need is having Windows 7 as main OS and dual boot with win svr 2008 which is on vhd.

Please help me with this. I will highly appreciate your kind help.
