Thinkpad T410i memory upgrade issue

Q: Thinkpad T410i memory upgrade issue

Hi Guys. I have a Thinkpad T410i notebook with Windows 7 64-bit installed. It has 2x 2GB a RAM in it. I want to upgrade it to 2x 4GB.I got the RAM installed, in the BIOS its okay but Windows won't start. The loading screen freezes, in safemode it stuck at classpnp.sys, I tried renameing it to classpnp.old, after that its stuck at disk.sys.Windows recovery doesn't load. I loaded it with a Ubuntu live USB stick and that works. The ram is Kingston4GB Module - DDR3L 1600MHzPart Number: KVR16LS11/4Specs: DDR3L , 1600MHz , Non-ECC , CL11 , 1.35V , Unbuffered, SODIMM Is this not a good memory for Thinkpad T410i?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Welcome to the forum!

If it works with Ubuntu is definitevely a Windows issue. Did you try to start in safe mode? Press F8 immediately after the ThinkPad logo appears when booting.

hello, I hope this is the right place to ask some Q about the IBM thinkpad G40 .. My son bought a second hand G40 some years back. It had/has only 256M memory. Now I want to upgrade the memory and I scanned the relevant web pages of Lenovo. Apparently the memory should be PC2100 or maybe PC2700 becasue of PC2100 availability ? (DDR)Now a cpu-z run on that laptop says the memory is PC2300 (142Mhz) so what gives ? Has this been put in to be on the safe side or ?and an additional Q .. can memory modules be mixed ? ie can I add a 512M PC2100 sodimm to get 768M ? or do I need to remove the original 256M and go for 2x 512M ?TIAImbsysop

A:Thinkpad G40 memory upgrade

Welcome to the forum! Your machine can run PC2100/2700 memory, and you can combine it, it will always run at PC2100 speed regardless of anything else. It can be mixed, no questions asked. If the G40 is Celeron powered, it will take up to 1Gb (2x512Mb) of RAM. If it's Pentium 4-powered, you can install up to 2Gb of RAM. Hope this helps.

Howdy All! I just ordered a Thinkpad P70 with a XEON 1505-M processor. It comes with one 16gb ECC memory module. I want to add 3 more and when I checked Crucial.com's memory upgrade options, it only list 1x16GB NON-ECC memory modules! So two questions: 1) Can I mix the 1x16GB ECC memory module with 3 NON-ECC 1x16 modules? 2) How hard is it to install memory in the P70? My last couple of mobile workstations have been Dell M Precisions and adding memory was EASY (no need to remove the keyboard ,etc)! Thanks in advance! Aggie85

Since non-ECC modules are only slightly cheaper I would not recommend it. About 2: for the P50 it is a piece of cake to install memory, it should be no different on the P70.  As for memory: Lenovo currently uses Samsung modules. So if you want to go for the same 16GB ECC modules check for M474A2K43BB1-CPB. I do not know about Cruicial, but at least Transcend also got 16GB ECC modules (check for TS2GSH72V1B). I cannot say anything about the Transcend modules, but I installed two of the 16GB Samsung modules (besides the 8GB module that was already in) in my P50 had no problem so far (even checked with Memtest86+ for a whole night). Cubbi

Currently I am trying to upgrade memory modules on my ThinkPad P51 of type 20HH. It was planned to have maximum, i.e. 64 GB, instead of original 8 GB. After some research four of Crucial 16 GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM CT16G4SFD824A have been obtained. With absolutely no problems two of them have been inserted in slots under the bottom cover. On that stage the laptop starts up and works perfectly with total 40 GB of RAM consisted of new 32 GB and original 8 GB. However, after adding a new memory module under the keyboard and/or replacing original 8 GB memory module with new 16 GB, and/or even putting original 8 GB memory module in the neighbouring slot, the laptop doesn't start up. Several attempts have been done to solve this problem, i.e. BIOS has been updated to 1.47 version, CMOS battery has been removed and returned back to its place, SSD drive has been removed and returned back to its place, the laptop has been turned on with a battery only, with AC power adapter only and with both of them. Nothing of the listed above helped to solve a problem. Did someone face the same problem? Is there a solution for it?

You can have up to 64GB (2 X 32GB).  The part numbers for the 32GB SODIMMs are 01AG871 or 01AG861.  Other configurations are possible depending on thether you have 2 X 8GB or 1 X 16GB and what you want to end up with,

From the parts list of the Maintenance Manual - your computer will only accept 4gb modules.  If you only have one socket on the motherboard, you are limited to a single 4gb stick.  Usually the system has the option for two memory modules, so I would suggest contacting Lenovo support by phone to discuss this situation.

No,  It won't work and the problem isn't the BIOS or a Lenovo limitation.  You have a 4th gen CPU  i7-4500u.  The 16GB modules only work on 5th gen or later

The current configuration of my system (as bought) is 4Gb RAM.  According to the specifictions, it is upgradable to 8Gb.  I had a conversation with Sales Support via Chat trying to find the correct part number for 8Gb memory to replace the 4Gb.  I was told that as my system is still under warranty, I would need to contact Technical Support for this to happen.  Having done a number of searches on this forum, would I be right in suspecting that the existing 4Gb is soldered in to place - hence the need for a Warranty call to upgrade.  I was advised that any attempt to make the change myself would void the warranty.Any thoughts please.

Hi This is my first post to the forum. Regrettably I must start with a problem. Following suggestions on this forum I decided to upgrade RAM in my X200 to 8 GB. I bought 2 4GB chips branded by G.Skill http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-1600c11d-8gsl I was very disappointed to find the memory doesn't work. The machine won't start (black screen) with several pipping sounds.I suppose they mean DIMM problem. When I replaced the original memory chips everything is normal. Is this at all impossible and I should go for another memory ?Could possibly BIOS upgrade help ? I'd be very grateful for any comments and suggestions. Cheers,Chris

A:Thinkpad X200 memory upgrade failure

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately X200's are very picky with DDR3-12800 (DDR3-1600) like the ones you bought.

I would advice to buy DDR3-10600 (DDR3-1333) or DDR3-8500 (DDR3-1066) RAM. I would also recommend you to avoid the "Value RAM" line from Kingston, the "Value Select" line from Corsair (other lines from those brands are ok) and any no-name brand from eBay and similar shops.

I know that the L520 allows a maximum memory of 8 GB. Do I have to use each slot to get maximun memory (4 + 4) or can I install a single 8 GB stick into a single slot and leave the other empty? If I can use the 8 + 0 method, does it make any difference as to which slot I install the stick? Additionally, does it make any difference in speed if I use the PC3-10600 memory or PC-12800 memory? i7 - 2620M processor

I'm of the opinion a L520 will support 16GB, at least my T520 and both X220 I have do so. And they're the same generation as yours

Generally speaking it's better to have two sticks for dual channel, 2x 4GB should be better than 1x 8GB. Although the difference may not be so noticeable in normal daily usage.

Hello to everybody,Recently I have bought a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 and I want to increase the memory, (by default is 4 GB) to 8GB or 16 GB. if it is possible. My question is if this laptop support without any problems or errors 16GB RAM of memory, because officially it is only 8GB.RAM, but I have seen on internet, people with 16GB Ram in this laptop, Are there any problem with this? If so, upgrade to 10GB or 12GB RAM would be posible instead? Also I want to increase the capacity in my laptop (by default is 320 GB.HDD), and I want to put a 500 GB SSD Disc, and if is possible to maintain both the Hard Disc anda SSD Disc, it would be possible to put SSD Disc into the PCI Express slot and mantain the Hard Disc at the same time. Or the only possibility is to replace the Hard Disc for a SSD Disc?Thank you very much,Regards.

The ThinkPad T400 and T500 datasheet states that it can handle up to 8GB of RAM, so it should work unless you are running a 32-bit version of Windows, in which case the maximum RAM that can be addressed by the OS is 4GB regardless of how much RAM you install.       The Windows license key is valid for both 32 and 64-bit, but to go from 32-bit to 64-bit, you would have to uninstall and reinstall Windows. Windows Install Media Download Links,https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 Hope that helps,

I recently purchased a Yoga 11e 20d9 model and so far I'm loving it.  However, I wanted to upgrade the memory from 4gb to 8gb.  I purchased Crucial 8GB Single DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) as all the reviews I read said this was okay to use, however, everytime I install the memory and I try to charge the laptop at the same time it crashes.  I can run windows 10 perfectly without issue up until I try to charge it.  I can charge ther laptop when the laptop is off but for the life of me I can't get it to coexist.  I installed the original ram and everything works perfectly.   Even if I'm in bios, as soon as I plug in the charger the laptop will crash.  It literally has rips on the screen and everything fades out.  As soon as I unplug it, the laptop works flawlessly.   I returned the memory and got a replacement and it does the same exact thing.  I updated both the BIOS and battery firmware.  I am out of ideas.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Lenovo Enthusiasts! I am about to purchase the Lenovo Thinkpad 550s, and I am tempted to purchase the baseline memory (4GB) and storage (512GB) HDD.  I want to make sure that I can indeed upgrade the memory to 16GB of RAM and the storage to a 256 (or 512) GB SSD. In my research earlier on, I noticed that somebody had posted a link to the parts list:https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/w550s_frubom_20150130.pdf I don't know what half of this technical jargon is, but from what I gather, I have found an SSD made by Samsung on Amazon, and an 8GB memory made by Data Memory Systems that seem to abide. SSD:http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-256GB-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-7KE256BW/dp/B00LMXBOP4 Memory:http://www.datamemorysystems.com/parts/lenovo/03X6657/ Questions:1) Could somebody wiser than me please verify that these products will work for the w550s? A:Lenovo Thinkpad W550s Memory upgrade to 16GB and S...

Very disappointing. Yes, I have the same problem (son, since it is your problem!). I note that over 189 people have at least looked at this question you asked before we decided to have you purchase the W550S...and after calling tech support one last time after my son purchased the machine (and was told there should be no issue)-we see BSOD multiple times within an hour.  They happen so quickly that it is hard to even note what the error message is.... I replaced his 512 HD with Samsung SSD 512GB drive. I used a disk duplicator-everything seemed to go great. Then I put in 16GB of RAM-again, everything seemed great. However, the notebook is only now being used frequently as my son is starting school now-and as said above, the BSOD is making me think this has something to do with the SSD or RAM replacement. Yes, obviously, it's fairly easy to replace with the original parts and see if the problem goes away-but he wanted the SSD and more RAM, so even if that fixes the issue-we will likely get rid of the notebook. BUT:  here is what disappoints me:  absolutely no comment on my son's original questions. I'm guessing I won't get input from Lenovo either....will try to call tomorrow, but we are almost beyond the point where we need to return the SSD/RAM and notebook if we want our money back. A little guidance from Lenovo would be appreicated before we need to make a decision.. Thanks,Steve

Any ideas? Defective mobo? It's a PC Chips 817, with a athlonxp 1600, 300W power, so I have no idea what could be wrong. Thanks for your help.

However, unlike my old & dead HP dv7 which was quite accessible to most of the parts, including a 2nd empty HD bay which worked great, Crucial warned when I allowed them to look at my system for potential upgrade of the system memory, one of the chips is underneath a component that needs removing to access the 2nd chip.I have used Diskeeper on all of my systems for several years to good advantage of keeping drives defragged better than Microsoft's Defrag. We have recently purchased a number of NB250-10G Netbooks, some have been ordered with 2GB of memory and some with 1GB. For a few 1GB machines, upgrade 2GB modules have been purchased to retrospectively upgrade them to 2GB (Correct DDR3 Toshiba Kingston KTT1066D3/2G).

When the memory upgrade is installed, when the netbook is started it switches on, then switches off, then switches on - this cycle continues. I have tried many KTT1066D3/2G modules and all do the same in any NB250-10G netbooks that were shipped with 1GB.

_All_ 2GB modules work in _all_ NB250-10G's purchased with 2GB. _No_ 2GB modules work in _any_ NB250-10G's purchased with 1GB.

Both the NB250-10Gs supplied with 1GB and 2GB have same bios version (1.3) and bios settings.

After a quick web search this is a known issue.

The RAM I bought was Corsair CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9 (2x4GB)I have a core i3 cpu in this Inspiron N4010 - and I am running a 64 bit operating system.
Is there some reason that this RAM would not be compatible even though configurators I found online say it should be?
is there a limit to the amount each one of the chips can be with the Core i3 (e.g. cannot be built off of 512mb but has to be 256mb)??

I cannot say for 100% sure, but yes, I think the number of memory chips on the board can indicate density. The symptoms you have described indicate a density issue to a "T." The memory shows up fine in the BIOS, but the PC refuses to work with it. I have suggested this cause to several others and when they purchased the lower density memory with 16 chips on the board, their problem was solved.

I purchased a new HP 6000 Pro AIO a year or so ago.  Standard memory was 2 gig.  Has been upraded from W7 Pro to W10 Pro.  Recently I decided to upgrade to 2x4 Gig Memory Modules. They installed fine - and the machine is working well and much faster.   However, the System Info and Task Manager both Show Installed RAM as 8.0gig with only 3.44 Gig Useable. I'm probably not getting all the memory resources I should be.  Can anyone advise what I can to to increase the useable RAM. Thanks

I purchased some memory today and installed it, once installed I wound up in an endless loop of restart and never got Windows to load.
Old ram was put back in and computer works fine.
The RAM I bought was kingston DDR3 1333 CL9 (4GB)
I have a core i3 cpu in this Inspiron N4010 - and I am running a 64 bit operating system.
Is there some reason that this RAM would not be compatible? what can i do to solve this issue?
thank you

Is this Value RAM (KVR)?  That's known to have compatibility issues with Dell and other systems.

The manual says it supports up to 32BG RAM (2x16)

That isn't the memory Kingston certifies for your system - for 16 G modules, look for
KCP424SD8/16
HyperX uses much more aggressive memory timings than the RAM your system needs.

I recently purchased 2 8gb memory sticks for my Lenovo p400 Ideapad Touch.  The specs are below: DDR3L 1600 (PC3L 12800)Cas Latency 9Timing 9-9-9-281.35VDual Channel KitGSKILL Ripjaw Series Model F3-1600C9D-16GRSL204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMMECC NoUnbufferedDual ChannelWhen I install the RAM, the computer only reads 8gb.  Even when I go into the msconfig file, it shows 8 gb and all 8gb is available for use.  I have also removed the RAM sticks and switched spots to make sure one of the sticks was not defective.  I had also downloaded the most recent system update software to check any driver/bios updates.  None were found.  I'm confused to why it's only seeing 8 gb?  Is there a setting in the bios I need to change for the timing?  Is there a setting in the BIOS I missed?  Thanks in advance for any assistance.

A:Lenovo p400 16gb memory upgrade issue

Hi nawnek ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would  8 GB also show in the BIOS?

Product Overview - IdeaPad P400 Touch :
RAM :  DDR3-1600/1333MHz SODIMM 2 (max 16 GB)

Try using one ram per slot at a time to help isolate if one of the memory slot is having an issue.
Using the original ram , try to add the new one , swapping each new ram to the same slot.

Recommended OEM ram here on item 12 page 95.

Update us how it goes.

Hello,

Im new here and consider myself reasonably knowledgeable about pc hardware. Hope things wont get too complicated.

Yesterday I've upgraded my memory from 8 to 16 gb. I know that timings are important when adding memory to an existing module, the same goes for voltage. But when I checked my specs after installing it, I noticed different JDEC clock speeds available to the new module. However the 800mhz speeds show the exact same timings

The question is: Will this cause problems?

A:Solved: Memory upgrade, Timing difference issue?

Regardless of what is available, the system will only use speeds in common to all installed sticks.

I'm back -- several years having a functioning computer has kept me away.

So... I have some faulty RAM (I believe - failed memory test and getting memory related BSODs) that needs replacing. Also, my system can't handle some new games. F1 2015 was a disaster. They re-did the game engine, and I could barely get more than 10 FPS. Time to upgrade some things.

I was thinking of just replacing the RAM and upgrading the video card. I currently have a GTX560. Thinking about going for a GTX970.

I know that the CPU and the Motherboard are limiting/bottleneck (potentially?) factors. The Motherboard is an old GA-M68MT-S2 (PCI-E 1.1 x16... yes, 1.1). The CPU is a Phenom II 1100T 6-core at 3.2 GHz.

Questions:
1) How much would that MoBo/CPU bottleneck a video card upgrade? I've read it will, but negligibly so (a few percent).
2) Am I stupid to keep that processor?
3) Does it make sense to just upgrade the video card? Or is the whole system in need of a rebuild?
4) Is the GTX 970 the best bang for my buck, or should I go with something else? (Its price is the max I am willing to pay for something right now.)

My goals here are to be able to play recent games at high settings. I know I need a much better video card to be able to do that... but do I need to replace the processor too?

I'm not too eager (nor do I have the budget) to rebuild the whole thing at this point.

What do y'all think?

I have a Dell 1521 running Vista, I have had no issues with the laptop, it runs great. I wanted to added mmore memory just for and little boost and max out the system. I purchased some Kingston 2 gig ram modules which are compatible for the system and installed them. The Bios does not register that I have 4 gigs of Ram just the normal 2 gigs. I have updated the Bios incase this was an issue and this did not fix the issue. I have reseated the ram, still just the 2 gigs are registered.

Is there anything else that I need to do for my system to resgister the other 2 gigs of ram for the system.

Thanks

I have a TP T530, 2359-4LU, that has Win 10 installed.  Originally had 4gb of ram. After upgrading to 6gb of ram, system ran fine. Went to seep mode when closing the laptop lid as normal, but when opening the lid, the device would not wake/resume, instead with a black screen the device would shut down.  I have read something about possibly too much voltage needed by the new ram and some devices can alter those settings in the bios, but I can't find that for my system. Any suggestions? Doug

Apologies if this is reprising and earlier question on this topic. I have recently acquired an old-ish second-hand ThinkPad X230 [2325SWK build with a G2ET91WW (2.51) BIOS], accompanied by a ThinkPad UltraBase Series 3 docking station [P/N 0B67692] which has an empty 2" bay.I need advice on the following issues:1    The X230 currently has an SSD installed [Samsung 128GB MZ7TD128HAFV-000L1] which will not be large enough for the programs and program data that I have planned to install.  I would like to upgrade to a 1 1TB SSD, and I propose to clone the contents of the existing 128 GB drive to a 1 TB Samsung 850 Evo [MZ-75E1T0B].  Are there any SATA or other firmware issues that I should be aware of before acquiring the 1 TB drive, arranging for its cloning and for the replacement of the current 128 GB drive?2    I would like to populate the empty 2" bay on the UltraBase Series 3 docking station with an HDD, and the model I have in mind is a 2 TB Seagate BarraCuda Hard Drive [ST2000LM015].  Again, I'd like to know if there are any hardware, firmware or other issues before acquisition and installation.I'd be grateful for any help on either of these two issues in an Australian context.

I hope someone can help me.  I am having an issue with connecting my Lenovo ThinkPad X380 Yoga to a USB-C Dock.  I have installed all of the drivers and enabled Thunderbold 3 within BIOS, however only the USB, LAN connections work when I plug the dock into the Laptop.  The two displays that are plugged into the dock via Display Port do not work and the laptop seems not able to detect the displays.  Things I have tried: Plugged in only one monitor using both VGA and DP but still nothing.Uninstalled and reinstralled the drivers.Ran the Lenovo support tool to make sure all drivers on the laptop are up to date.Power cycled both the laptop and dock. As I said the USB devices plugged into the dock seem to work fine as does the LAN.  I have tried to update the firmware on the dock however I keep getting the following message: ThinkPad USB-C DP Hub version can't be checked! Please power cycle the Dock to try again. I have powercycled but still have the same message.  I am all out of ideas as to why the displays do not work.   Any ideas?

I want my Thinkpad to be stable enough to run DJ software (Native Instruments traktor). My thinkpad has 8 gb of ram and a 256 gig Samsung SSD. I followed all the tips I could find by doing a fresh install of Windows 7 SP1 and patched it up to date. I disabled every process suggested by the DJs who use PCs and also followed the recommendations on the Native Instruments site. Basically, there is nothing on this system now except for the operating system and Latency Mon. When I test it with that, I get the following error message. (attached pic). Shouldn't this machine be robust enough to run DJ software? What can I do to stabilize my system? How can I disable 'CPU throttling" as Latency Mon suggests?  ??

When I'm on battery windows 7 crash after some time (10-30min) then after restart I choose Safe Mode and everything works Ok.
I thought it has to do something with a processor so I edited Power options and lowered proc usage but still crashed.

I installed SF_Diagnostic_Tool and Windbg and here are the results.

I know its a kernel error and cant be it does not give specific description of what is couse it but maybe u can recomend what to do next.
I wasnt doing any overclocking!

Welcome

Is your computer under its warranty? And yes, the problem is with your processor.

Also I need your msinfo file cause the one in the attachment is corrupted.

Please upload your msinfo32.nfo file. To get this:
Click on the Start
Type msinfo32 into the Search programs and files box
When it opens, go to File, Save
Save as msinfo32.nfo and save in a place you will remember
Let it finish the process of gathering and saving the system info
Right click the .nfo file, click send to compressed (zipped) folder
Upload the .zip file here.
