I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I ran a speed test on my new T480's USB-C port on an external SSD. I am using a Sabernet SSD external enclosure with a USB-C adapter. Inside is a m.2 SSD (not NVMe). I also tested the same SSD with a USB 3.1 adapter and the speeds are MUCH faster on the USB 3.1 than the USB-C port. I can post screenshots of CrystalDisk if needed. Any advise?

A:New T480 USB-C port SSD speed slow

Out of curiosity, when you say: "adapter," what do you mean? It is a whole new cable with the A and C heads? Or is it just a small block where you plug the existing USB-C cable into? The reason why I ask? Is it possible the USB-C cable is actually USB 2.0 spec (like a USB-C "charging cable"). Of course, if you are using the same USB-C cable in both instances, then I do not know what to do. There are two USB-C ports on your T480, maybe try plugging it into the other one?

There have been several reports of the Thunderbolt 3 port on the XPS 15 9550 (and 13 9350) being configured to a PCI 2x port instead of the more usual PCI 4X port. Users have been reporting speeds of up to 16 Gbps, only half of the advertised speed (40 Gbps) which should be 32 Gbps (with overheads) for data.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/5hl5i4/xps_15_9550_not_able_to_reach_40gbps_over_tb3/
https://egpu.io/forums/pc-setup/xps-15-9550-not-able-to-reach-40gbps-over-tb3/
The result is significantly TB reduced performance to comparable machines, especially when using an external GPU set up.
If this is not hardwarematically configured as such, it may be possible this could be fixed with a firmware update. Will this be coming?

Hi,
I myself own an XPS 15 9550 and noticed that I was not getting the full Thunderbolt 3 speedover it's Thunderbolt 3 port. I expected speeds around 2700MB/s, because of the overhead withthe theoretical gross speed of 3870MB/s, but I only ever got 1400MB/s out of it.
I did some digging and found out that none of the XPS notebooks with Thunderbolt 3 are evenable to achieve the full TB3 speeds, because they are only connected with two PCI Express lanes (x2.3).You can read more about this on the following links:Dell Subreddit PostChipset Digging on Forum

Thunderbolt 3 and the promised speeds were the MAIN REASON I even bought this notebook.I feel very cheated here.

I have a user with two LT3053s (2560 x 1600) and his previous T440 + Ultra Dock (I believe) supported the full resolution at 60 Hz (again I believe).  I upgraded him to a T480 and our standard Type-c dock that we deploy limited the screens to 1920x1080 @ 60Hz.  After this and complaints from the user of headaches from the drop in resolution we purchased a TB3 Gen 2 Dock and even after plugging the dock in to the actual TB3 port on the laptop (not the top type-c port) we are having issues with not all of his devices working, namely the kb+m. Any ideas here?  Right now we are running it with the 135W power adapter that it came with, but there is also another power adapter available that did not come with the unit we purchased.

My t480 no longer charges via thunderbolt dock. Sometimes it wontw boot if anything is plugged into the thinderbolt port either (black screen after Lenovo uefi splash screen) When plugging my power adapter into the port, it will enter pluged in modern but report not charging. It will maintain charge. When plugging a docking station, attached perepherper function normally, but again, not charging. This behavior started recently.  Additionally I noticed that in device manager the UCSI USB connector manager sometimes will error out with an error 43. But this is sporadic and may be unrelated. Device manger view appears to repeatedly refresh, but have not been able to discover the conflict. I refreshed the os (win10) and it worked correctly for a bit, but then started doing the same thing again. Is this an error induced by a recent Lenovo or Microsoft update? Hardware problem?  Software?

We recently moved from the Lenovo T470 to the T480. We have purchased two of the T480's, with both we have the same issue; The adapters we have used for the T470, won't work with the T480's. The ports do work with our usb-c displays.  Some background information, the monitors we are connecting too are both from Apple, Thunderbolt Display and the Cinema Display. We have no issue with the T470, with the same adapter. The adapter we are using is a Apple Thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2. We have also tried other adapters from some aftermarket sellers.  What we have tried already:Several adapters, none work. Both portsWe have tried deactivating the security in the BIOS for the USB-C, just to make sure we tried everything, but also no succes. We have spoken to our Lenovo reseller for over an hour, but no succes or tips.. Checking the thunderbolt software, if it gets recognized or anything but no. If anyone could provide some insight into this issue would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

We are currently using Lenovo T480 laptops with ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Docks (Model 40AC0135US) in our office and frequently encounter the following issues: ? When a user connects their T480 to the dock, their monitors do not display any video? When a user connects their T480 to their dock, their monitors will display video, but USB peripherals (keyboard, mouse) do not work? When disconnecting from a dock, the charging light on the T480 stays lit and Windows shows the laptop is still connected to power and charging? External displays flicker intermittently When a user experience issues with their dock, the only way to get things working again is to shut down the computer, disable the internal battery in the BIOS, and then plug the T480 into the dock and turn it on. However, the issue eventually returns and we have to repeat the steps again. We have also tried the following steps, but continue to see issues:? Run Lenovo System Update and install all driver, bios, and dock firmware updates? Replaced Thunderbolt cable? Change the Thunderbolt Security Level in bios to No Security and Uninstall Thunderbolt Software Most of our laptops are running Windows 10 1709. Has anyone else experienced these issues and know of a good solution?

I see that Lenovo itself has a "Lenovo Thunderbolt Graphics Dock" but does not offer that as compatible with the Thinkpad series. Nevertheless, as Thunderbolt 3 is a standard, I am wondering if the Graphics Dock works with the T480. Did anybody already try that?

I have a new T480 and Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 dock. I find that often when I close--but in no way shut down--the computer for the night, when I restart in the morning, it completely restarts, so I lose open tabs, unsaved work, etc. I can understand enough of the system event log to determine that the computer always goes to sleep when I close it, then, per the power plan, hibernates three hours later--or at least tries to. The first sign of trouble in the logs comes at the time of hibernation. For example, at 2:37:25 this morning there is the routine Information event, "The system is entering sleep. Sleep Reason: Hibernate from Sleep - Fixed Timeout." This is followed immediately by the warning, "6105 - deauth after EAPOL key exchange sequence". Over the next 5 minutes come two more warnings and eight errors. Then nothing until I start the machine in the morning. One of the first events on restart is the information message, "The last shutdown's success status was false. The last boot's success status was true." It appears to me that this only happens if the computer is plugged into the Thunderbolt 3 dock overnight. To the dock are connected a (gigabit) ethernet cable, a displayport monitor, a mouse, a keyboard, and a pair of headphones. Here is a fuller dump of the error log at the last time it was hibernating, or trying to: Level Date and Time Source Event ID Task CategoryError 7/30/2018 2:41:33 AM Microsoft-Windows-DistributedCOM 10010 None The server {3EB... I am using a T480 with the TB3 dock and 2 external monitors. My problem is my screens go black for a couple of seconds every x amount of time. I've updatad all drivers found under the Display and Video graphics section Drivers T480I remember when updating to Intel Thunderbolt Software for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad T480, T480s, X1 Carbon Gen 6 - 1.41.565.0I received the following screen:(I did get 2 Thunderbolt SW apps in my start menu and uninstalled the one which was visible via add/remove programs) These updates did not resolve my monitor issue.I later on noticed there is a new TB3 Dock FWWhen I wanted to make the update I got the message the TB SW had to be above 17.4.77.400. (the version insalled and active was 1.41.565.0) I reinstalled TB SW 17.4.78.500 and performed the TB3 dock FW upgrade. Now I am in the situation I do not have a Thunderbolt SW application to allow/select TB devices to connect.V1.41.565.0 seems to be a new DCH driver. reverting back to the legacy driver 17.4.78.500 is not somethig I should have done.It seems the DCH driver came with it's own Thunderbolt SW application, which is no longer available. Is there a procedure to completly reinstall the DCH driver including the Thunderbold SW or revert back to the legacy driver with Thunderbold SW (which now states the application is not in use anymore) Thanks!

Hi All,Since a few days I am using T480 with Kubuntu 18.04.When I use the laptop for web browsing and text edition (light use which should not consume too much resources), the CPU's temperature is always around 50 deg C, with the fan speed of around 3000 RPM (the average CPU usage is 6%). The MX150 GPU is disabled with NVIDIA X Server Settings. If the GPU is on, the temperature and fans speed is more or less the same. Has anyone experienced similar CPU's temperatures regardless if it is windows or linux? Are such temperatures normal? The housing is pretty warm all the time. The ambient temperature is around 24 deg C. Best regards,Lendzian

On my 2 months old T480 ThinkPad, sometimes (happened 3 times so far) when I disconnect cable (type-c cable) from the docking station/box and then reconnect to the docking station/box (e.g. after a meeting) - following does not work:1) Does to connect to external displays/monitors.2) Showing charging (in windows 10 status/task bar), but actually does not charge (battery % is decreasing at very faster rate than normal battery usage).3) Doesn't connect to wired network on the dock box. However, the mouse and keyboard connected to the docking box works. Simple restart of the laptop did not fix the issue.I saw some where (lenovo support site) to disconnect the battery and and charger, and hold down the power button for 10-30 sec to do static reset, which fixes the problem.I am unable to reproduce this issue consistently, but happened so far 3 times, on this new-ish 2 months old laptop. (upgraded from T450, after 4 years without issue, that I was very happy with). Lenovo Service Request 4083JV6.But lenovo support was not able help/troubleshoot without able to reproduce this issue. But when this issue happens, the led light at the charge port stays red (not blinking, just red on), even when it is not connected to charger (or docking). So my question is what does it mean when red light at charge port always on?

Hi, I think I'm having some problem with my Yoga 920's thunderbolt port. I bought a StarTech thunderbolt 3 dock. When I first time plug in the dock, everything works fine the thunderbolt software pops up and ask me the authorized the new dock. And I click always trust this device. Then the windows crushed with a blue screen and a QR code on it. After 920 restarted, and I tried the dock again, it was identified as USB 3.1 hub but no USB connection. And when I tried to open the thunderbolt software, it shows me the following warning.I tried to update the driver, but the installer said it was all ready. And then I downloaded HWINFO64 to check, I could not find the thunderbolt 3 controller under the PCI-Express X4 BUS. Is that means my thunderbolt 3 port is broken? What should I do with this? Btw, when I plug in the thunderbolt 3 dock, the powersupply is also connected, and the dock also provide the power, two power supply input at the same time, will that be a reason of the crash which also burn the thunderbolt 3 controller? Thank you.

I'm thinking of getting a P70, I see it has 4 USB 3 ports and 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports.  My questions are: 1: Is each of the USB 3 ports connected to their own controller so that each port is capable of it's maximum bandwidth?  Or are all four ports connected to the same controller so that the data bandwidth is divided among the four ports? 2: Similar Thunderbolt 3 port question.  Is each of the two Thunderbolt 3 ports connected to it's own controller?  Or is the bandwidth shared between the two ports? I'm planning on using the USB 3 ports (maybe Thunderbolt 3 also) with a high end, high data rate USB 3 camera that, according to the specs, can use up 95% of the USB 3 bandwidth.  If I were to use two cameras at the same time, it would not work if all four ports are connected to the same controller/bus and sharing the bandwidth.  I have read that laptops usually share all USB ports on the same controller.  I'm hopeing it will be different with the P70, being a "professional" workstation class product. Thanks

I'm using the thunderbolt port for a single connection to a Dell usb-c dock (power in, KVM out, speakers, network, etc.).  The 720 charges real slow and the battery status message (in Lenovo Settings app) states that the "AC adapter cannot provide enough power for normal operation of your computer".  The Dell usb-c docks are powered with a 180w power supply that provides 60w of power to the computer, which is more than the 45w power supply that comes with the 720.  I have tried 3 different Dell docks, including a Dell thunderbolt 3 dock with a 240w power supply. I have to believe this is an issue with the Thunderbolt 3 driver on the 720 or something BIOS related.  BTW, the 720 has Windows 10 pro loaded (updated from the home version loaded by default) and Bitlocker enabled.  Don't think these changes have anything to do with the issue. I purchased Lenovo's thinkpad usb-c dock (which states that it's universal) and hope it charges the 720.

(assuming I don't use the internal dedicated Quadro P2000 gpu for this), are there such limitations on the external GPU itself?  (type, compatability etc.) Thanks!

Downloaded the newest Thunderbolt driver this morning. It MAYBE fixed the occasional outage problem that many are having with Thunderbolt/USB-C port adapters - jury is still out on that.
Here is what it DID NOT FIX: The fan speed. No matter what I plug in to that port, the fan revs up and stays up.
I disconnect all USB-C adapters and revert to my USB 3.0 equivalents and everything works fine. I have a 3.0 LAN/Gigabit port and a Plugable 3.0 to HDMI adapter that are working great with no fan revving.
The minute I use my USB-C versions, that fan gets spinning. Why? Watching my Task Manager, I can see 1-4% CPU, 20% Memory, 1-7% disk. There is NO REASON for that fan to be running.
Until Dell and Intel get that Thunderbolt port dialed in, I'm staying on good ol' USB 3.0. At one level, that is frustrating as I bought the XPS 15 partly because of the promise of the "One port to rule them all."

A:Dell XPS 15 9550 Thunderbolt and Fan Speed

I agree 100%. Bottom line is that ThunderBolt 3, at least in the XPS 15 9550 implementation, is not ready for prime time.
Right now I am running with my XPS 15 closed using an external monitor connected to the integrated HDMI port, a USB 3 adapter into which I have plugged my gigabit ethernet, my usb keyboard, and my integrated monitor webcam. I also have my wireless mouse dongle connected to one of the integrated laptop usb ports and have my power adapter connected. Fan is completely silent and everything works perfectly. I should be able to connect all of that thru the TB15 dock using the single Thunderbolt 3 connection to the XPS 15 9550 with exactly the same results. Unfortunately with the current state of drivers I cannot.
I bought my TB15 dock directly from Dell. Their can't be that many of us. You would think Dell would make the effort to make sure that all of us that did would be communicated to and taken care of...apparently not.

So I just got my new P52 and am trying to figure out why the 2 back ports (USB-C Thunderbolt ports) are so slow???   I have a Samsung T3 that is a USB 3.0 device and when I plug it into the normal USB-A ports on the 2 sides it transfers just fine at 480MB/s like it is supposed to.  But when I plug that T3 into the USB-C port in the back, I get about 33MB/s, so basically 10x slower!!!  What gives, any advise would be great since tech support was no help.

I'm having issues getting the TB16 to work with the XPS 15 9550. I successfully installed all the drivers in the proper order as documented prior to plugging in the TB16 for the first time.

I've verified that I indeed do have a Thundrerbolt port - there is a Thunderbolt symbol next to the USB-C port.
When I do plug in the TB16 the power button on it will power the system off/on.
I've used a usb-c to Displayport adapter and a usb-c to usb 3.0 adapter with a flash drive. Both worked successfully so the basic functionality of the usb-c port is working.

When I plug in the TB16 I never got an authentication window pop-up. In the Thunderbolt software it shows no attached devices.

The details setting in the Thunderbolt software looks fine, it appears to have the proper driver and firmware levels.

When I check the Thunderbolt driver it says that 'the hardware device is not connected to the computer'.
I'm at a loss - everything looks good except for the fact that nothing happens when I plugin the TB16. I'm wondering if there's a hardware problem with the Thunderbolt controller itself? I'd appreciate any help that anyone can give me.

You might open the Thunderbolt software and set it to allow all devices.  I reset my system and redid the TB16 and it shows the cable and dock as approved devices.
It was not hard for me.  The thunderbolt controller is on the computer.  You show some correct info for that controller, although since I have a 9365, that specific info may be different, but you do show a different controller generation..

As no-one seems to have an answer for my dual display-problems with the P50 and workstation dock, I now have a (hopefully) simple question: Is the rear P50 Thunderbolt 3 port active while the computer is docked? I wonder if I can use the StarTech Thunderbolt 3 to dual displayport adapter, and connect my two displays to this, using the dock only for USB and LAN connections. I hope someone can answer this, as I'd rather not spend another $100 on yet another useless adapter.

Hi,

I would greatly appreciate any assistance I can get regarding some problems Im having with my laptop. Long story short I purchased a TB16 dock, managed to update all the drivers and firmware but still cannot seem to get my laptop to charge via the dock.
Everything else works; three displays, ethernet, mouse/keyboard. Everything except charging. The battery bar says that its charging but my battery slowly drains. BIOS says a 45w adapter is connected so it seems to recognized that its plugged in. I know its not the dock since my Brother's 9550 charges just fine.
Thank you for any help I can get!

Hey,

I am on a laptop with a gtx 765m. I am trying to connect a thunderbolt port to a display port monitor. My understanding is that thunderbolt is backwards compatible with display port. But, for the life of me I can not get it to work.

I am using a minidisplay port -> display port cord.

I have ended up hooking the monitor up with an hdmi cord for now. FYI the monitor is a 2560x1440 monitor if that matters.

Thanks,

A:Thunderbolt to display port monitor. GTX 765m

Do you know for sure the video is ported through the Thunderbolt connector?

Any chance we could get your computer model number?
