I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Bug with solid color backgrounds

Personally? I can't think of anything more depressing and somewhat nerdly, than a solid color desktop. But for those who don't share my disdain for such, I'm sure glad there's a fix for the slow booting problem.

Thanks for that post. I'll pass that along to my tech friends.

A:What folder does Win7 store the solid color wallpaper backgrounds?

It isn't a folder filled with solid colors. It takes the colors from the system itself. Just as you get those colors from paint, so you get those solid colors to use.

I am not aware of a way to shuffle solid colors for the background

A:problem displaying websites color backgrounds and color scrollbars

Ok. First, what are your computer specs?
For example, mine is a

Dell Inspiron 530
WinXP Home SP2
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 ghz
320 Gig HD
1022 gig RAM
512 Nvidia Geforce 8300 GT video card

It helps to know what is being worked with. If not sure, you can go to "start", then to "Run" and type in "dxdiag" (without the quotations marks) This is your "DirectX Diagnostic Too" Copy the specs you see in "System" (CPU info) and in "Display" (Video/Graphics Card)

Secondly, I know your husband was trying to help but I hope he tells you next time what he intends doing. My own husband is older (60s) and is a bit leery of this "newfangled computer technology" He prefers leaving the computer work/"geekstuff" to me for our family business.

Hello All,

I am new to this forum and i hope i posted my question in the correct section.

I am having issue setting up 2 different solid color backgrounds on a dual monitors setup. I can do the different background pictures on different monitor but not solid color. Does anyone know how to configure two different colored background on dual monitor?

Thank you

A:Have 2 Different Solid Colored Backgrounds

Hi there,

It's not possible to set the background colour different for each monitor. But you can tweak the system.

Make a 'picture' in Paint with the appropriate colour and save it. Then make that the background picture for your screen and select the option to fill the picture to the screen. Do this for both screens.

Hi everyone,

I was messing around with my background one day trying to find some pictures for my slideshow. I don't remember exactly what happened, but now I'm stuck on the solid color background. I can choose what color it's set as, but that's all. If I go into one of my or one of the default picture folders, the pictures all appear there looking perfectly fine and I can select them, but my background doesn't change. Anybody have a fix for this?

Also, I'm a computer newb so please make any help as simple as possible.

hey. I have a toshiba laptop and it just recently went through it's first format not too long ago. anyways, ever since, my screen will turn to a random color (blue, purple, yellow, green, etc) and I am forced to reboot. AVG ran a scan and found 5 trojans (lmao)

AVG supposedly 'removed' them and or stored them in the 'vault'.
now when I run a scan it comes up clean. I'm suspected I might have a virus and I'm looking into it.

wanted to ask you guys a question about a file titled 'TAPPSRV.EXE'
I've tried to research this file and it doesn't come up with much information at all. does anyone know what this file could be? thanks

Hello, I recently began experiencing stability issues with my PC, and I haven't had much luck searching for answers.

The issues began about 1 month ago, when the computer began crashing at random. The computer would stop responding, and show a solid color or stripes on the displays (i.e. both screens completely white, One screen black, one screen green, or left screen white, right screen black and red horizontal stripes.) Upon restarting the computer, it would make it into windows, and then immediately crash again in the same way. The computer eventually locked up while bootting after 3 or so cycles of this, and the mobo display would not advance past "A3" after several restarts. i turned the computer off for several hours, and eventually was able to get it running again by hitting the reset buttong on the motherboard, at which point it worked fine for the next month until today.

The issues began occuring again, and it has now happened 4 times in relatively close succession. After the first crash, it crashed immediately after getting into windows upon restart. The next restart after reseting the mobo let the computer run for about 5 minutes before crashing again. I turned the computer off for 10-15 minutes, and it ran for approximately 30-40 minutes before crashing again. I turned it off, reset the mobo, and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then was able to get it running for another 20 minutes before crashing in the same way.

Hello All,

My computer has been having problems for the last month, worsening over the course of the last week.
Computer Model: ASUS Desktop PC ROG G20AJ-US029S

My issue began with the computer sometimes not booting properly, sometimes a blank display, sometimes not even turning on the mouse and keyboard. However, when it booted normally, the computer would run flawlessly.

Over the course of the last week, my computer has begun crashing somewhat randomly, usually within a few minutes of logging into Windows. When it crashes, it will display a solid color or different solid colors on each of my monitors. It will then usually restart and run fine and play games with no issues.

However once last week and today, after restarting, the computer ends up crashing to a color over and over again. It got to the point last week where the computer stopped booting at all. I thought my computer was busted at that point but it started working again soon after.

There seems to be no reason behind the crash as far as I can tell. I have noticed that it is more prone to crash when loading something.

The computer also seems to freeze in safe mode and sometimes even in BIOS as well. I have also very occasionally noticed some graphical glitches during POST as well.

I do have some warranty on this computer. I just want to try to see if I can fix it myself or at least diagnose the problem prior to sending it. I am just not sure what diagnostics to run to help me figure out what's wrong ... Read more

A:Computer Crashes Randomly to Solid Color

The blank display and "not turning on the keyboard and mouse" sounds like it's not completing POST, which indicates a hardware fault.

Could be something simple like something is loose, or an actual fault.

Depending on the warranty, you may not want to take any further action. Some warranties are void if you open the case.

Otherwise, open the case and ensure all cards (ie: video card, RAM, etc.) are still properly inserted and locked into place. Also check all data and power cables. You may want to actually remove/reseat all hardware and cables.

Has anybody had the same issue I am having and does anybody know a solution to the following:

I decided to get a 64GB SSD to replace my System Drive; I wanted quick boots and software startup.

After many many restores from image (finding out that my file drive wasn't included in the image in the process) formatting and finally a few clean clean installs with no performance gain whatsoever, I found the problem: I always changed the desktop background to solid black right after the install (I don't dig the default blue logo screen at all). And this simple action, which I didn't think would kill the perforamce of an SSD, this simple change put the boot time of the SSD in the area of my old spinning drive.

Changed back to default screen and voila, a blazing fast drive with amazing boot times.

Has anyone heard of that before, does anyone have any ideas how to work around that (I still don't dig the default desktop....)?

The read / write speeds by the way were definitely up where they need to be when benchmarked, but the boot time was lousy.

Thanks for your input / comments.

A:Solid Desktop Color Killing SSD Performance

Gratz on your first post! This is mine too!
Now, your problem was noted many times over the web. All you have to do to reproduce this bug is to set your desktop background to a solid color while you have the aero theme running. It affects both windows 7 and server 2008 R2. The result is that sometimes, the welcome screen might be displayed for thirty seconds instead of the usually faster boot with a regular desktop background.

My suggestion to you, is to get a more colorful background =). Because, not only is it faster, but also, more prettier XD. However, for your information, there is a microsoft support article specifically about this issue. If you want to see this article, go onto this url.

The Welcome screen may be displayed for 30 seconds during the logon process after you set a solid color as the desktop background in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

This article provides both a hotfix for your issue, a suggestion to avoid the issue, and a manual fix for the issue. As always, this hotfix will automatically go to your system after windows 7 service pack 1. Just remember, that this is NOT because of your solid state drive in any way.

I wish you the best!!

I have had numerous issues with my system since I accidentally deleted a bunch of DLL and other files using a duplicate file eraser. I forgot to check the "protect" box and didn't realize this particular software showed ALL the files and not just the duplicates that were safe to remove.

I used my Win XP pro disk to repair in order to get up and running again.

My computer now starts up extremely slow and also takes forever to shut down. But one thing at a time.

Oddly - when it starts up - it will show the wallpaper on my desktop that was previously there, but without any icons. Then some software apparently loads and then the screen goes blank only to reappear as a solid color background. This is not extremely important to me from an appearance standpoint, but perhaps it might indicate some other underlying issue?

I also show that I have 2 Motorola wireless adapters. I had to reinstall the software after the crash. I don't know how to delete the unused one. I'm guessing the one without all of the info is the extra one. I happened to find this by running a scan by DAL.

I hate the thought that I might just have to save stuff, reformat and start over.

My system works, but it has numerous glitches. I downloaded an update to my Nvidia card. That took out my sound drivers. Once I discovered that and unistalled the update - my sounds returned.

Help! I need to get this back on track and I don't know where to start.

thanks,
Susie

i am running windows 8 on my Toshiba Satellite L 300 , it was running smoothly and all its features are good too. but suddenly the screen turns out a solid color based on the color which was on desktop ( for example if i am having a yellowish theme, the solid color will be yellow ) .. i have seen a lot white and light yellow color the most when the screen change . after the color change the total system will be unresponsive, the only way i find is to press the power button for 2 seconds, ( ya full power off ) ... again if i start the system, may be it will work perfectly for a long time but suddenly again it happened..

the problem start before two weeks, i thought it may be due to some software error and i done a full system reboot and i don't have any program installed except windows 8, but still it exists. .. now i am sure that problem is somewhere in windows OS or my hardware ... i am unable to find whats going on ... could you guys help me?

Screen goes black then turns a random solid color with buzzing noise. Had this problem for a long time (>1 year), now its getting really annoying and I want to try and fix it. I usually then have to hold the power button to turn it off.

- My temps for both my CPU and GPU are fine whenever this happens.
- Only happens when I play games, sometimes it happens fast, sometimes I can go for hours before it happens.
- Almost always happens in FPS type games like Overwatch or Bioshock, but very rarely happens in MMOs like League of Legends.
- Tested with memtest86, futuremark, and prime95, all were fine.
- Recently updated to Windows 10, but even when I was in Windows 8.1 Pro it still happened.
- Updated GPU drivers recently, still didn't fix the problem.
- GPU not overclocked, tried underclocking it once but that didn't help.
- BIOS has 1 new update I can get but I'm holding off on doing it until I tried everything.
- I have all the current Windows update.

Any help is appreciated.

I have been using Windows 8 for quite some time now. I have it on my laptop and my home desktop. I have synced-theme set up and use my Windows ID to log into both. I have had no issues at all really since the install. Everything was synced as it should be. The other day; however, I noticed that the desktop background on my laptop had reverted to a solid black color. (In case anyone is wondering, this has nothing to do with non-genuine install as everything is 100% legit plus I am not getting the message in the bottom right of the desktop).

So, I figured it might have been transient and I wanted to change it anyway, so I changed the desktop background on the laptop. It actually did sync to the desktop as well. However, when rebooting the laptop, the same thing happens all over again, though the desktop background is still correct on the desktop, but still changes to black on the Laptop.

When I make the change again on laptop, I notice that it does not change the synced theme desktop, it actually creates a new "unsaved" theme. I save it with a new name but it really does no good.

Anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this? Thanks!

Mike

I have an attachment of what I am talking about. I am wanting the blocks where the names of the files or shortcuts are to be transparent instead of blue.

I have tried this already and it did not work:

Make desktop icons background transparent
1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel. Then double click on System Icon, system properties window will open.
2. Click on Advanced tab in System properties window.

3. Click Settings button next to performance option.
4. Under Visual effects tab, check (or tick) option ?Use drop shadows for icons labels on the desktop?. Background color of desktop icons will be set to transparent instead of ugly looking solid blue color.

I am sure it is something simple that I am overlooking :)

Thanks

A:My computer crashes while playing video games (solid color, looping noise)

This is caused by a dying video card or a corrupt video card driver. Try going to AMD's support website and download and install the latest driver for your version of Windows. Pay attention to whether you have a 32 or 64 bit version of Windows

Hey, what's up forum? This is my first post on here, but more than likely will be my most important one. My computer specs are listed at the bottom of my post, but if anyone needs to know anything more, feel free to ask. I apologize for the long post, but I figure if I give you everything you'll need, then the amount of questions will be minimized.

I just finished building two separate computers for my workplace (I do CAD design for a special-purpose airboat-building company). One of them runs basic programs (no CAD work involved, so no CAD software installed on that one), and the other (mine) runs top-end hardware and Autodesk Inventor 2009 Series. Both run Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

For my boot drive, I have two 32GB OCZ solid-state drives running in RAID 1 (mirroring for OS backup purposes). I also run an internal 1TB Samsung HDD, used to store data, as well as a Fantom Drives 2TB external HDD for backup. On the non-CAD support machine, I had relatively minor issues when building it, which (thankfully) are resolved now. For the CAD machine, I have had major issues. I've installed Vista twice on this machine in the same day, but I'll concentrate on the second install, since it is (was) more stable.

The major problem that I'm having right now is that when I'm working on this computer, I will be right in the middle of doing a CAD drawing, and suddenly the computer will turn the screen a solid color (so far it has been gray, like the background in ... Read more

I'm talking about specifically the program "Logo Creator"

Anyway I've seen it happen before with other programs I use and I don't know why.

Basically the problem is this:

I make an image and it has a white background. Perfect. It looks white. I save it. I upload it. I look at it online and perfect, it's white.

Now, after looking at it w/ my pentium3 pc hackintosh, and an old pc (celeron 1000), one day I'm looking at the image w/ my laptop (acer pentium3-pc) and the image has a grey-ish background!

The backgrounds basically white but you can see the borders and the background is greyish.

So I load it up w/ a friends 4-year-old pentium3-ish 1.7 or 2.3 and the damn thing is like completely grey background!

These computers all have Windows XP, except the main one I use has the cracked mac osx.

I just don't get it. I don't know if its the computers cause on an old celeron 1000 the images looked fine. And I don't think it's the monitors cause the pentium except the laptop the monitors are all thin-screen lcd acer monitors.

lol anyway ... thanks for any help.

Hello,

I'm updating a friend's computer. It already came with Windows 8.1. It's an Asus Transformer T100.

I have this strange problem. Normally, the screen has the correct color and brightness. However, whenever I'm using Windows Mail (Windows 8 app), the screen will change to this yellowish/grayish hue or tint. I switch to another app or a desktop program and the screen returns to normal. Only with this app do I have this problem!

I went to color profiles and management to see if it was a setting. I'm not very familiar with color profiles so I didn't do anything. I did run the screen calibration utility. No fix.

I turned off adaptive brightness.

It's just Windows 8 Mail that has the problem!

A:Windows 8 Mail changes screen color.color profile problem?

I found out what's the problem is.

Asus has a utility called Asus Reading Mode or something like that. You can add apps to that list and any apps on that list will cause the screen to change color to make it more readable I suppose. You can disable the feature by flipping the toggle switch in the app. Then all the apps will maintain the correct screen color.

Having issues with Microsoft Word.

When adding the Drawing toolbar, both the Line Color option and the Fill Color option have no colors to choose from.

You can click on the icon to choose what color, but everything is grayed out and inactive.

Any ideas?

Already ran a detect and repair. Renamed Normal.dot to create a fresh one. Uninstalled and Reinstalled Word. No success

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

So, when I am using the Windows lock screen, especially when I am not currently signed in, Windows tends to set my lock screen accent color to purple, much like my wife's account on the computer. She has chosen a purple accent color for her account, which is fine, except that mine is red. Now, this is not really a huge issue, as everything is normal once I have logged in, but the fact that everyone else's account is normal and it isn't assigning that color to any other accounts is extremely annoying. I've just been dealing with it for the past few months and I'm just tired of it.

Does anyone have any possible solutions to this? Or maybe an explanation as to why this would be happening? Thanks.

Hello my fellow techguy.org/helonthe.net member. Here is my dilemma; my Lexmark X1100 All In One Scanner/Printer appears to be malfunctioning. My color cartridge is at about 60%. When I try to print color images (requires that I disable “print color images in blk&wht&#8221 it doesn’t work. All I get is incomplete images in black and white? What is the problem? Do I need to replace the cartridge? I’ve tried changing printing configurations, physically removing and reinstalling the cartridge, even reinstalling the drivers. What is wrong here?

Thanks in advance.

How can I change background color of the document I am working on but not have that color print when I print the document?

A:wordperfect how to change screen color but not print color

Try going to File, Print and see if there is a setting there, it would be something like do not print background.
I don't use word perfect so I am going by what I have seen in other programs.

In Word I think it is listed under Tools, Options printing.

You will have to check the settings for background.

ALso try background in the help in the program or background printing under help.

I have an HP business inkjet 2300 & Windows XP desk top. My printer is only prining in black or this funky dark pink and light pink mode. (Grey Scale?) How do I remedy this. I know the ink is full because I just replaced all the colors thinking I was running out of the primary colors bet that didn't fix it. Any Ideas? Thanks!!!

A:color printer not printing in full spectrum color

The pink is usually a sign that the ink is about to run out. Check the printer settings in the Windows control panel for the printing mode. From there, you should be able to do some diagnostics. Try a print head alignment and print head cleaning, just try all of the different options and then try and re-print. If not, you could have some dud inks? Very unlikely, but if you bought them cheaply from a not so good brand or had them re-filled then it could be an issue.

A:screen color not show only red green color display

Hi.Welcome to the forumKumarTAM.Green Screen Display Quality IssuesThe problem you have may be the graphics card or the screen.Try connecting an external monitor or a TV to the laptop and check if it happens to you too or not. If this happens it also means that it is from the graphics card, so you will have to update it to its latest available version. If on the other hand it works well on the TV or external monitor it means that it is the laptop screen which should be replaced.Press the icon""to say thanks, Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem.

Hello all,
I am looking to modify the color of a Rainmeter skin that I have made, and want it to change based on the "average" color of the current wallpaper. I was thinking that the solution to this may be along the lines of how the Aero-glass used to work on Win7, or how the "automatic color picker" works now on Win8, where it changes the taskbar color based on the average color represented in your wallpaper.

Any suggestions as to where I might find code to get me started, or if any of you might be willing to help me do this? While this obviously isn't a task of utmost importance, I'm pretty sure we all love making things look the way we want them to.

Thanks in advance,

Sean

Hey all,

I have a question regarding the font/background colors on the Windows 7 log screen. I just accepted a position with a school and a few computers have customized log screen font colors/backgrounds. The Windows 7 classic background is there, but the username and password boxes have been changed. For example, one computer has green text that sits on a black background for both username and password. Another has a different combination of colors. I've searched related topics but am having trouble finding a good, clear cut solution. I basically just want to reset the log screen back to the default white background with black text for each box.

Anyone advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Ryan

I am using a bulleted list in Word 2007. One of the lines has text in two colors, black and red. the end of the line is in red. When I add a bullet in front of the line, it only becomes a red bullet and I can't see a way to change the bullet color without changing the line colors. I want the bullet to be black regardless of what the rest of the line is and can't seem to do that.

A:Can't change bullet color independent from line color

It's been a while since I used Word 2007 (retired now) but I don't think what you want is possible (unless someone else know a workaround).

One surprise in just upgrading from Win 8.1 to 10 is black taskbar and the seeming limit on adjusting colors. It's been a long time since I had to play with it, but with Win 8.1 and back I've had a transparent, semi-clear taskbar, with custom color settings (intensity, hue, saturation and brightness) that let the grey/blue of the bottom of the photo I used for the desktop come through. Is that kind of adjustment completely gone with Win 10? All the colors in Settings seem highly saturated. I came across a website that showed a lot more changes along the lines I am looking for, but its Win 10 settings layout doesn't seem current (Change the Color of Taskbar and Window Border in Windows 10). Thanks,

Hello everyone.

I want to color calibrate my new Dell XPS 15z laptop, but before I do I'd like to back up the existing color profile in case I prefer it to the calibrated one ...

The only problem is, when I open Color Management, NO default color profile is listed, so I don't know what to go back to. I know there HAS to be a default color profile somewhere ... How do I find it?

Thanks for any and all help you can offer!

A:No Default Color Profile Listed in Color Management?

You don't need to backup the default color profile...so don't worry about that.
Anyways its probably using sRGB IEC61966-2.1 you can see it in the advance tab.

First of all let me say that you are not supposed to run KazaaBegone but one time to get rid of Kazaa and that's it. After that there is no need to run it again.

Your log is clean!

The simplest way to make sure you have all the security patches is to go to Windows update and install all "Critical Updates and Service Packs".
