Can I use a 90W 20V AC Adapter with my ThinkPad 14 Yoga that came with a 65W 20V adapter?

Q: Can I use a 90W 20V AC Adapter with my ThinkPad 14 Yoga that came with a 65W 20V adapter?

I have a Yoga 14 (Type 20FY) Laptop (ThinkPad) that came with a 65W 20V 3.25 A AC adapter. Could I use it with an AC adapter from an IdeaPad that is 90W 20V 4.5 A? Both adapters have rectangular ?slim tip? to plug into the laptop.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently purchased a ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd (Type 20JD), and it came with a 65W adapter for USB-C (model 4X20M26268), there is also a 45W model through Lenova (4X20M26252), and numerous 45W and 65W slim travel adapters for Yoga models.  My question, can I use any Lenova 45W or 65W brand adapter with a USB-C cable?  I would prefer to use of the 45W or 65W travel adapters that have retractable plug, like the one for Yoga3...is there any risk? thanks!

I have X1 yoga laptop that won't boot. I tried booting from a USB, but that did not work. Hardware diagnostics returned no problems. At this point, I am trying to salvage my data from the SSD. I want to remove SSD from the laptop and connect it through some cable/adapter to another computer to copy my files. I see tons of options, but I am not sure which one would work for my SSD. The majority of SSD M2 to USB converters support B or B+M key, and then there is something about NVMe or SATA interface... I am very confused and know close to nothing about SSD types, etc. How can I get to my data?

Hello I own a thinkpad S1 yoga laptop (core i3 processor and 4 GB RAM). It suddenly stopped charging using 45W adapter (20V, 2.5 A). However, it is charging fine using a 90W adapter (20V, 4.5 A) which I got with my previous Lenovo laptop Any recent windows or system updates caused this? Is there any solution other than using a 90W adapter which I am scared to use as it may charge 47W battery too rapidly casuing a quick death of battery or explosion in the worst case. Please help

A:Thinkpad S1 Yoga stopped charging with a 45W adapter

Hi Chaitanya,Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.As I understand that you have query regarding your 45W AC Adapter is not charging your ThinkPad S1 Yoga
I believe the AC Adapter has gone bad as you have mentioned that its charging fine with 90W Adapter
I don't think so it is caused due to software or Windows updates. You can also check whether its getting charged in shutdown mode or not to confirm.

I hope the above information helped you.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Hi,My Y260 is having a weird trouble which I believe is hardware/motherboard related : whenever I plug the power supply, the CPU steps down to 0.38GHz... This is 1/6th of the full 2.3GHz the i5-6200U can provide, and the CPU is stuck at 16% use, which is 1/6th of 100%.If I unplug the AC adapter then the machine shuts down as if it had no battery. If I start it without an AC adapter then the CPU uses the full 2.3GHz and everything is fine, until I plug it in !I already tried disabling Intel Speedstep or any power saving stuff onto the BIOS, and I ran every Lenovo hardware tests and everything seems OK. Do someone have any idea about what I could try ?If none, I will have to call Lenovo (46 days of warranty left !) but I would prefer not I need my Thinkpad for my job. Thanks,Boris (from France so excuse my english)

I am thinking of buying an X1 Yoga, but am a bit concerned about the lack of ethernet port. I am looking for feedback on the OneLink+ to RJ45 adapter - Lenovo part #4X90K06975. This is the adapter with just the ethernet port - no other ports. I have found some feedback on the docking station, and the adapter with more ports.., but I am interested in the ethernet-only adapter. Does it work well? I've read about a variety of issues with the other adapter and the docking station. one thing that concerns me a bit about the adapter is that the OneLink "plug" looks like it sticks out a lot from the side of the laptop - is it the kind of thing that can easily get dislodged, or broken.., or worse yet.., damage the port in the laptop? This laptop will occasionally be used in a bumpy environment. I see that i also have the option of a USB-Ethernet adapter, but I would rather leave my USB ports free for other devices - connectig to instruments is one of the main jobs for this laptop. Additionally, I assume that the USB-ethernet adapter will need a driver, and i am worried about driver conflicts with the drivers for the instruments. Presumably, the OneLink to RJ45 adapter does not need a driver - is that corect? Thanks for any help

I've had my yoga for almost two years now and recently I've been having two issues: 1. The WiFi adapter will sometimes go out and it won't even show up on the device manager. The only "fix" I've found so far is to shut down and turn the computer back on (usually at least a couple of times) until the adapter starts showing up again. I've gone to the bios to check to see if it's showing up when I run the motherboard test and sometimes the PCI slot that it occupies doesn't even show up. I've been having to use a small USB WiFi adapter when the onboard adapter feels like being particularly uncooperative on certain days. 2. At random times (every few hours or so) when the laptop is just sitting on my desk, I will get an auto rotate notification and the screen will change its orientation, go into tablet mode, and disable the mouse and keyboard. Usually the screen will go back to normal after a few seconds, but the keyboard and mouse will still be disabled and the only way to get them both activated again (as far as I know) is to shut down the laptop and then turn it back on. My guess is that these two problems might be related. The reason why I think so is because I had similar issues a year ago with the WiFi adapter frequently not showing up on the device manager. I had the laptop sent in and it turned out to be an issue with the motherboard, which had to be replaced. So my guess is that there's something wrong with the motherboard again, which is affecting both the... Read more

Shouldn't this part be included in the Hard Drive Bay Adapter IV?

Hi all, I've already done a little research into my issue, but I just wanted to ask on here for some direct advice/sanity check. As the title suggests, I was trying to network boot some Yoga laptops using a ThinPad USB 3.0 network adapter (model RTL8153) but have been running into a problem where the adapter is seemingly not detected.  In the BIOS of each laptop it lists "ASIX AX88772A/B", which I gather is the supported chipset for USB network booting these laptops, whereas the RTL8153 is Realtek. When I try to boot, I get this: Enumerating for ASIX USB DONGLE ...
No ASIX USB Dongle found.
PXE-M0F Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device. Now, from my admittedly limited research, it appears that I simply need a USB network adapter with the aforementioned ASIX chipset. Is this true or is there a way to get the RTL8153 working?  Many thanks in advance! (PS Apologies if this is better suited for a more enterprise-centric area of the community! Feel free to move the thread.)

Hello,  this has been solved here, but the version of "defect" is indeed the opposite. (sorry my english)  As other users solved this problem with - it did not help using more powerful adapter with 90W 4.5A or upgrade BIOS. Power Saver off, no other power saver activated. Many times HW tests from Windows Troubleshooting and Lenovo Vantage - everything OK.  I attached here HWiNFO specification. - Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 460 (Windows 1709, all current drivers updated - no change with update 1803 - same situation)  The power adapter (and also i use many others - no change) will immediately reduce the processor frequency to a constant of 0.39GHz and using the bounce between 0 - 15% .Reinstall Windows, HW test and drivers etc. everything is OK.  Even no help from Settings - Windows - Options of Power - set min. usage processor 100% - no affects. The problem persists. ..omg... , whats that? Common opening of Explorer, Word, copying etc., and other elementary activities are now a matter of minutes - big loss of performance. Thank for your help

I got a new ac power adapter from Target earlier today and decided to try it out. I noticed just as I put it in for the first time that it wasn't the correct Voltage. the Target one only goes up to 12 volts, where as the lappy requires 16.

However, you take for granted the object in which you didn't purchase...(sometimes)...so I decided what-the-hell and tried it anyway.

The lappy blinked the battery low indicator light when i started to boot, which is fine because it was low on batteries to begin with. However, I have been running it for 25 minutes now with the battery indicator on 0% in the task bar, and it has yet to tell me that my battery is running low. Though it does list the indicator with a big X, as if it was running low and I wasn't connected to an outside power source.

How much damage am I doing to the battery? Since it requires 16 and I am only feeding it 12, can it really be that detrimental?

So, to start with, my original power cable went bad on me.  I'm 99% sure the issue in question was the power cable from the adapter to my laptop (it was acting normally when that was positioned in exactly the right position; otherwise, it wasn't charging or wasn't transmitting power).  I went to Best Buy and picked up an Insignia (Best Buy house brand as far as I can tell) 90W AC Adapter.  It seems to rate at 19V/4.74A.Well, lo and behold my computer is "refusing" to charge while active.  It seems to charge just fine when it is asleep or otherwise out-of-service but it won't charge when it is active (regardless of what power settings, etc. I'm using; yes, I tried to muck about). Is this a bad unit?  Is it a bad model of adapter?  Or is this just Lenovo's software being a passive aggressive pain?

In this post I would like to share my recent discovery regarding T420 Adapter.  Two months ago after installing several updates from Windows 10, I noticed that my laptop has slowed down tremendously. It had problems even for loading web pages like facebook and youtube. So, I started looking for the problem. I reinstalled windows and flashed in fresh new Windows 10, but still the problem was there. Then changed my RAM but still the problem was there. Then I changed my Hard disk from ordinary one to Samsung SSD, but still the laptop's performance was only 1/100 of what it is capable of. Once, totally accidentally, I stared using my laptop on the battery and that all the problems dispappered. The laptop was working like brand new, opening up and running any apps as fast as it was doing originally. And that was when an idea strcuk intow my head that it could be the problem related to the adapter. Then I bought 90W adapter and bum, all the problems were solved and my laptop work perfectly fast as beofore.  When workng on 65W original adapter it was running always from 35% to 100% utilization rate and the speed of the processor was always stuck at 0.79 never changed.  Even when I am not dong anything and the laptop is idle utilization rate is 32% and speed is always 0.79.                      As for when working on Battery, utilizatio rate is changi... I'm looking into buying the new Carbon X1 2017 as soon as it comes out. I tend to need an ethernet connection often and want handling with ethernet cables as effortless as possible .   On my current laptop (Dell XPS 15, Win10Pro64) I use an ethernet-USB3 adapter. Honestly, these adapters are crap and constantly annoy me. Mine seems to re-install it's driver (or at least somehow initiate thru the system) every time I plug the adapter in. About 60% of the time the system looses the IP configuration and I have to re-type the IP address. Also the system gets confused occasionally when I connecte/disconnect the adpater and tells me that my IP is already in use. I suspect this happens because the adapter is embedded in the system via software, not hardware. I really hope this is much, much better with the X1, as it comes with a designated connector for this... still, I need a dongle to connect an RJ45 cable which is a good source of error. Maybe someone who is actually using the OneLink+ to RJ45 adapter can give me a bit of insight, what happens in the system with this connector.Does the ethernet port actually disappear from the system, when there is no OneLink+ to RJ45 adapter connected? Do I need to re-configure the settings every time the adapter is plugged in?I think it would be great if the ethernet connection just sits there in the system and keeps it's configuration neatly, also if the RJ45 adapter is not connected. Can anyone explain ?Thank you... Hello! Recently I am unable to recharge my X1 with the included Lenovo 65W USB C Charger.  When I plug it in, the orange light blinks (1 second on, 1 off), and the windows battery status icon on the system tray flicks on and off between "plugged-in (charging)" and "not charging".  It seems that when I plug it in, windows is trying to mount something like a USB drive, as the icon to unmount a USB C device flicks on and off.  Furthermore, the task bar flickers as it goes on and off thinking that it is trying to mount and unmount a USB device. I've plugged in a few different USB C chargers I have "for my phone, for a battery pack, from a MacBook, etc...", and they work on my X1 no problem. I have 2 Lenovo 65W USB C chargers, and I've tried both of them with the same result.  I'm pretty sure the chargers are ok, as they will charge other devices (like my phone, a battary pack, and a MacBook).  Just, when I plug them into my X1, I get problems. Not sure if this is due to a recent Lenovo Vantage update, or Windows 10 Update.  I recently did the 2018-12 Windows 10 update.  However, even if I turn the computer off the Lenovo charger blinks the orange charge light, and will not charge the X1. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I would like to replace the DVD drive in a ThinkPad P70 with a 2.5" hard disk, and I have trouble finding the right adapter. I have found several references here and on other sites to the part 00NY314. I have ordered it from IBM, and it's indeed the right shape, but it's only the plastic shell with a metal bottom, and there is no connector for the HDD. Here's a picture of the part that I have received. Note the absence of connectors. ?I have called Lenovo support, and they told me that the part 0B47315 might be the right one. I have ordered that one, too, and while it has all the necessary connectors, it doesn't have the right shape, so I believe it's not appropriate for the P70. Did anyone actually order the part 00NY314? Were you able to connect the HDD? Where did you order it from? Did IBM ship the wrong part? What's the correct part number for the adapter?

I have an employee that is trying to utilize the wifi adapter in his laptop to maintain access to the outside world while using his ethernet to connect to a local isolated testing environment. The wi-fi shows that it stays connected to the wider internal network and maintains it's assigned IP but as soon as the wired connection is plugged in the laptop seems to prioritize it over the wifi and it loses the ability to connect to the outside world. Is there a way to force the wireless connection to be the default connection when trying to connect to the internet?
