Preferred Solution: computer freezes when wav dvd samples are loaded

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My computer has is about 3 year old and it rarely ever gets used (maybe once or twice in a 4 or 5 month period) it has Windows XP and I have just installed a desktop wireless router (D-Link DWL-G520), and it was working fine until I unplugged the computer and moved it into another room. The Wireless Internet is working, but my computer has slowed down a great bit, and when Windows is finished loading I click on either the IE icon or AOL and it comes up, but my computer now freezes anywhere from 1 - 3 minutes after I have logged on. It is even freezing when I click My Documents, My Computer, Control Panel, etc... It doesn't even have any downloads other than a few programs (AOL, Outlook, IE, Media Player, Real Player, etc..) on it, and I don't download music or anything on it. I can't even load the Control Panel in time to Add or Remove Programs before it freezes, so is there anything I can do before loading Windows to stop it from freezing? It won't even let me shut it down without holding the power button down, and it doesn't start back up in Safe Mode.

I'm sorry to join and immediately ask for help, but I would be grateful if someone can spare some time to help me out if they can.

Anyway, over the last 4 days or so, I've started having some problems. As soon as I open a game or other graphical software (e.g. Google Earth, Chess etc.), my computer instantly freezes, and the screen becomes partly pixelated. I have found nothing that can reverse this, and I have to turn off the computer manually.

I have tried updating the drivers and a System Restore, but this hasn't fixed the problem.

Here is an image of what happens.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Here are my specifications:
OS Version: Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium , Service Pack 2, 32 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50GHz, x64 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 7
Processor Count: 4
RAM: 3068 Mb
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT , 512 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 466643 MB, Free - 37303 MB; D: Total - 10239 MB, Free - 6122 MB;
Motherboard: Dell Inc, 0PP150, A00, ..CN7082182T2054.

Some other information that may or may not be relevant.
- I did some temperature checks using GPU-Z, but there was no change when I opened a game.
- My computer is almost 3 years old, but my video card was replaced last year when it failed. The warranty is now over, so I would obviously prefer not to have any parts replaced if I can avoid it.

If I come across new malware samples, then How can I summit them here for analyzing purposes?

A:Summiting New Samples to Bleeping Computer

How to Submit Malware Sample to Bleeping Computer for analysis. Generally we use this procedure when Helpers request members to specifically submit a file sample but all staff experts have access to such submissions. BC MRT Experts also have individual channels where they can request members to submit samples directly to them for analysis. For most folks we advise that anytime you come across a suspicious file or you want a second opinion, submit it to one of the following online services that analyzes suspicious files:Jotti's virusscanVirusTotalVirSCANIn the "File to Scan" (Upload or Submit) box, browse to the location of the suspicious file and submit (upload) it for scanning/analysis. I have a kind of a problem. My Vista Home Premium 64 bit freezes after about 2-5 minutes after I logon. When all startup programs have loaded it freezes. As well as the Task Manager. Desktop becomes white or sometimes is unchanged, my mouse cursor becomes a loop, showing that something is loading. The only thing that works is Ctrl+ Alt+ Delete, showing the Start task manager/ log off etc. menu. The task manager there also doesn't work (it is diplayed, but none buttons pressable). I can press a log off button there, and then it shows some kind of error (Windows/.../... etc) but so fast that it is unreadable and just after about 5 times i could read something. But I surely know that it is "Unable to load" error or something of this kind. I've tried different user accounts and all of them have the same error.
But when I log off everything unfreezes, works as normal (Steam messages "Your friend [...] is now playing [...]; etc.) and logs off as it should...
The system work well in safe mode so far...
I don't know if anyone can help...
My computer first froze when I've turned of MSN and Steam with the Task Manager.
Thank you.

A:Windows Freezes after all startup programs loaded

Hello DwarfVader,
First go to Start > Administrative tools > System Configuration, and open.
Go to startup tab and un-check Steam and MSM, while your there, take a look and see if there is anything else you can disable, it can all be started manually, reboot and see if all is well, if it is, then check one at a time and see which if any is the culprit.
Give this a go and post your results, good luck.

Hi . .

I am just new to this site so hopefully I have not put this in the wrong section or anything, had a problem with my dell inspiron 1545 a few months ago and the problem still has not been resolved. it starts up fine and quickly then when I go to click on anything on the home screen it freezes, so it is unusable at the minute, a friend of mine ran a test and it worked for a while but the same problem returned. Just wondering is it worth giving it to someone with more experience to see if the problem can be fixed ? Have heard before Dells havn't a great lifespan so it isnt worth gettin them fixed (could be wrong, have very little knowledge of computers)

thanks for you help

Vista boots and initially seems to work and then within a few minutes the USB devices - keyboard and mouse are disabled. None of the ports work. Must reboot with power button. On reboot I choose safe-mode and it immediately started to install drivers for the USB devices. So it seems that for some reason the USB devices where disabled on a normal boot - maybe as some additional software or services started to run?

On a side note My bios has ACPI turned on and wake with USB turned on.
I turned them off temporarily to see if that helps. Can you suggest any fixes - bios settings or ways to test what programs are causing the the problem in vista.

I had this computer running without this problem before reloading vista. same USB devices. I relaoded and changed from raid to ahci for the drives. I did make some bios setting changes that are different but vista is supposed to support these - like acpi

Hi, since yesterday I have had a weird problem with my computer. I tried to watch a video on youtube and the whole
computer froze. So I then turned the computer off and when it returned and the desktop loaded, it instantly froze. The taskbar
was only partially loaded and only some of the icons loaded. After about 1 minute the computer restarted itself and since then
it keeps doing it, with the taskbar and icons not fully loaded and me unable to move the mouse at all.

I restored to an earlier point and that seemed to work, but then when I woke I found the computer had restarted itself and it was having the same problem. I thought the computer must be overheating but when I checked speedfan I found the computer was very cool and it doesn't shut down in safemode.

I have started in safemode and I have tried cancelling all startup programs in msconfig, but it made no difference and I tried a virus scan but I just got a few cookies and things that the virus scan didn't seem to think was that dangerous.

I am running WINDOWS XP version 2002 service pack 3

amd sempron processor
2.00GHz, 1.43 GB of Ram

any help would be appreciated

I installed Macrium Free on my Dell Venue Pro 8. Then I added a memory stick and made a backup image of all the partitions on the Dell (there are 5...EFI System Partition, OEM Partition, Recovery Partition, Recovery Partition, and Boot Page file, crash dump, Primary Partion). Not sure why there are so many partitions but after the backup image was complete, I set up a rescue disk on a USB drive. I rebooted the Dell to make sure the rescue disk worked. What happens next is strange.
First, when I rebooted, the boot up screen shows both Win 8.1 and now a Macrium button. I thought I only made a rescue disk on my USB drive, but I clicked the Macrium button and it loaded Macrium just fine, or so I thought. Once Macrium was loaded, it showed the familiar backup/recovery screen that I have seen before on my desktop computer when I needed to restore an image. The only problem is this screen is frozen. I cannot access any of the functions on the screen to select the image to restore or even close the screen and reboot.
Figuring that maybe the rescue process on the tablet is not working properly, I put the rescue USB drive in and then booted again (had to hold the power key in for a while till it rebooted). When it booted to the USB drive, it went through the same steps and again loaded the backup/restore screen, but it too was frozen.
Should I have not included all the extra partitions in my image backup or is there some other issue going on here?

Would like to get general thoughts on the best way to transfer programs from old computer to my new 8-core Windows Pro 64-bit(new install) computer. One of my areas that I'm concerned with is that several of the programs I'm wanting to transfer were purchased over the internet & downloaded with no physical media involved. Otherwise, I would just do the install via the install cd's.

Thoughts, suggestions and detailed guides will be welcomed! In advance, many thanks!

First, thanks in advance! You guys were of great help with my last computer problem, so I thought you could help me again!

Ok, we just moved cross-country and my wife's computer didn't survive the trip for some reason and is currently out of commission. I found this old computer that was laying around and the thing is a mess, but it works better than my wife's at the moment (because it at least boots up and runs for a while before crashing).

As I noted, the computer runs for a while then will suddenly crash. Some times it's "operating system not found," other times it's the 'blue screen of death,' still other times the thing just freezes on whatever screen is up.

In an effort to try and get the thing in as good an operating condition as possible, I ran Malwarebytes and deleted what came up. I downloaded Comodo firewall and antivirus. I ran the antivirus and the computer was infested with trojans and all sorts of malware. However, the computer cannot complete a virus scan without freezing or crashing so the AV is of limited effectiveness.

I found that the computer had leftover kazaa and limewire files. I removed all of those.

I tried but cannot run Lavasoft adaware.

In addition to crashing, the computer runs extremely slow and is almost always 'working' even when it shouldn't be. (The HDD light is almost always on and making noises to indicate it's working.)

I did complete a HJT log, but I receive... Read more

Hello guys,

I bought a graphics card a month ago. After a while, I realized that it makes my computer restart when I'm playing games. I get no error, no blue screen, no nothing. When I'm playing(when GPU load is 90% or more), the computer just closes down and starts again.

The graphics card model is ASUS GTX 770 2 GB DirectCU II

I tried to run some stress tests on my graphics card with Furmark and it makes my computer restart again.

So I took my GPU and power supply and went to a friend of mine. His computer was kind of old which has a 500W PSU. We changed it with mine. We got no error, no restarts.

So I know that, it's not the GPU and PSU.

My Specs:
MSI Z87 G45 Gaming MBO
Intel I7 4770K Processor
16 GB Corsair 1600 Mhz Ram
You know the GPU
700W PSU

My Friend's Computer Specs(In case you need it):
Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2H Mobo
AMD Athlon II X2 240
3 GB DDR2 Ram

If you guys have any suggestions how to solve this problem, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

OK, I have already found out how to get rid of "huntbar" (and I did thanks to this great forum and site), but can someone please tell me what is the deal with this hijacker and how can it download without my authorization?

There some other things that I noticed that were going on with the computer while I was fighting with it...

1) Whatever it is, it only seemed to latch onto Yahoo!, which I had set up as my home page, and only when I exicuted a search.

2)Huntbar did not appear when I searched using Lycos, Google or any other listing service.

3) While resident in my computer (running ie6.0 and Windows 2000), Huntbar caused IE to act strange when opening the program and connecting with the web -- the little windows flag/spinning world icon disapeared completly for up to a minute while a connection was established.

4) When it reared its ugly sidepanel, the links seemed to direct me either to a dating service, or to www.about.com sites on Java.

5) The Huntbar sidebar was fixed, however, you could see around its edges where its scrolling features were masked. I verified the content of the box by viewing the "source" html, which contained a false link to a supposed uninstall feature.

One of our computers (kids have at school) might need a reformat & XP Home reinstall. I'm wondering about the Product Key - we never had it. It is a Dell. XP Home was already installed. We have Reinstall discs. I am reading about reinstalling XP and it says to Have Your Product Key handy! I'm finding the Product Key can be ONLY be found "on the orange sticker on the back of the envelope holding the original disc." We never had original discs since XP was installed, so we don't have that enevelope or Product Key sticker - nothing. Those orange stickers seem to be the only way to find the 25-digit Product Key for XP. We have the reinstall discs and 20-digit Product Registration numbers (shown on the Registered to box on the system info box).

If it turns out the computer will need to be reformatted and XP reinstalled, will the Reinstall disc know that XP was pre-installed by Dell and we didn't install it? How will it work? What information will I have to supply? (I've looked at the Dell site but feel uneasy.)

When i turn my pc on it loads through the normal load up. It goes right into windows lasts about 30 seconds and reboots, showing a very quick blue panel on the left hand side.

We have tried pressing F8 and booting xp from disc but nothing works and it keeps booting and restarting??

Its very confusing, not sure on what is causing this to happen?

Please help!

A:Computer keeps rebooting once winXP has loaded

You may not have tried to enter Safe Mode correctly. You need to enter Safe Mode in order to turn off the automatic re-boot, in order to read the BSOD failure error message, in order to know what might be wrong.

Boot to Safe Mode by pressing the F8 key repeatedly, as soon as the power button is turned on.

Once in Safe Mode, navigate:

My Computer>(right click)"Properties">Advanced>(under "startup & recovery)>"Settings", and un-tick "Automatically Restart", and click "Okay"

Then navigate to My Computer>C:>Properties>Tools>"Error Checking">click "automatically fix errors" and schedule a chkdsk to run on reboot.

Then reboot.

If it gets to desktop, HD errors were the cause of the problem. If it doesn't please post the exact text of the BSOD error here.

Hello All: I downloaded W8 to my desktop computer. No problems with download or installation. Once opened, no network and no programs and all the "help" info was on the internet. The net work adapter(2Wire) was not recognized. MS office programs not found (they were in Program Files folder but untitled ((I think)). Sound card (Creative I think) not recognized. I spent several hours attempting to find and fix the problems without success so I loaded W7. Almost everything came back expect I still do not have network, no sound card recognition, and VGA without enhancement. The divers for the devices are missing. When I attempted to load the network adapter driver something called "AMD AwayMode" was loaded. Everything to fix these problems are on the net and I can't get to it.
So, right now, I have computer with recognizable MS and 3rd party programs, but no network, no sound and out of date graphics on the monitor. Fortunately, I also have a laptop which connects to the unchanged network.
Any suggestions? Thanks

This problem is nothing I've seen before and It's making me nuts!!
I started my second computer that has Windows XP Home loaded on it. It worked fine and I shut it down. An hour later when I tried to boot it up it went into a perpetual loop of booting up over and over again. It never gets far enough along to get into safe mode or anything. It starts to boot and the Windows logo comes up for about 5 seconds, the screen flickers like it's going to the next part of the boot . Then the screen goes black and after a couple of seconds the hard drives sounds like it's slowing down and the system starts to boot again. I've tried to boot from the windows CD but it doesn't get far enough along to get to it. Any ideas how to repair this???

A:Computer won't stop booting up before windows XP is loaded

Ok, so I am building a new compy for a friend, speccs include :
Video Card : Nvidia 9800 KO
Power Sup : 1300w ABS Power Supply
RAM : 6 gigs of DDR3
Processor : Intel Core 2 Quad 2.6 ghz
Mother Board : nForce 790i Ultra sli
Hard Drive : Seagate 7200 RPM 250 GB

Ok, so I dropped in all the parts as I have done quite a few times before, connected all the power cables as needed, and skimmed through the user manual to make sure they were appropriately placed.

Now, I started the windows installation, it installed just fine, then I walked away to return to the computer, that is now off, I powered it back on and it got to the Windows loading screen, then POOF, it shuts off, I tried it once more and no go still, I assume its the power supply that may be bad, but I am not sure... Anyways, any help is appreciated.

So, I reloaded windows on my primary computer a few weeks back, and now, I am unable to recreate a homegroup in my given network. All machines have left the old homegroup, but the option to create a new one does not exist. Instead, on each machine left on the network, the only option avail for HG is to join the homegroup created by the computer that was reloaded. The problem is, I no longer have access to that installation of windows, and the password that I thought I set on the homegroup is no longer working. Any advice on how I can get this all working again?

I have had an ongoing issue with my computer ever since I got it over a year ago. I get BSOD 'randomly' when I turn on my computer. It can happen each month or it may take a rest and not do it for three months. It will crash hard and often and then be perfectly fine. Every time you restart the computer it will BSOD until you can shut the computer down properly. Then I just start the computer up after a time and it's totally fine. It only blue screens right when windows loads or when I first load a browser (Chrome and IE).

I've checked the following:
RealTemp - all temperatures are fine.
WD Diagnosis - no errors on my hard drive
MemTest (with Windows loaded, not on boot) - no errors to report
No viruses found with Microsoft Security Essentials (and using others)
I've done Check Disk and looked into the errors and I get nowhere.

A:BSOD after computer is loaded for around 3 minutes. ntoskrnl.exe

Hello and welcome Conqueror mate Imust tell you straight away I ma no expert at anything much and certainly notthat data you have listed. I have seen several references in other places andin Wikipedia to this ntoskrnl.exe being to do with HDD and RAM problems http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ntoskrnl.exe

So what I might suggest is that yourun a drive test and then a memtest to eliminate them. I have looked for the WD test but the site is terribly convoluted but I think this is the one you want WD Support / Downloads / SATA & SAS / WD Black

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.htmlthisone you will need to make a bootable disk set the BIOS to optical (or USB ifpreferred) boot the machine and let it run for at LEAST 8 passes unless theerrors come up straight away. Takes fair time to complete and some leave itrunning overnight.

Hi, I have a new computer that runs Windows7 64 bit. I have an older computer hard drive that has XP.

I needed something from the old hard drive and hooked it up with the cables from the Win7 hard drive and it booted up and ran. I've since gone back to using the Win7 hard drive.

How do I proceed to add that second hard drive running XP to the new computer so I can have the option of running either OS? I've read through some posts, but they all presume you are installing the OS to new clean hard drives, not have them already installed.

Is it as simple as hooking the XP drive into the computer as a second drive and booting it up? Do I need to change some external setting on the hard drive to have it recognized as a slave?

Will Win7 automatically change the boot to recognize the second OS and allow a choice at startup?

Thank you so much for your advice in advance. I'm a little knowledgeable but there are a lot of gaps in that knowledge. Cheers

A:Two Hard Drives already Loaded XP/Win7-Install into one Computer?

One way of doing it would be to set you preferred OS as the priority HD at boot, then if you wanted the other OS, boot into bios and select it.
