I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

(Sorry for possibly putting this in the wrong section, I was looking at my other thread and thought "Oh wait, I have this other problem too, let's submit that." and I admittedly wasn't thinking about which thread I was in. But if it helps at all, this Laptop indeed does have Windows 7 on it.)

Hey guys.
I'm sharing a laptop with somebody right now, and I'm pretty sure I have administrative permissions on it. But despite that, I'm the 2nd user on this laptop.

For some odd reason, EVERYTHING that is made through Flash or ran by Java, I'm guessing, gets a lag spike in it every few seconds. I haven't counted it out exactly, but I'm pretty sure it's the same time distance between each other that the spike happens.

What happens is that it doesn't freeze or anything like that, it just slows down, and then once it's over, it picks back up at a high speed pace and returns me to the normal speed. It won't go away, it doesn't get any better, it doesn't get any worse.

Before you suggest that I'm probably just on an outdated laptop - No.
I'm able to run MANY things on this laptop. I can play a lot of Steam games, I can play Elder Scroll games, I can even fit the latest Photoshop on here and it'll run perfectly smooth.

But if I play a game such as Minecraft, which is ran on Java, the spikes occur.
it also happens with online Flash games. It's never Flash MOVIES, just Flash GAMES.

Here is the deal about a month ago a nasty virus hit up my computer a dell latitude d830. I removed the virus and everything was fine that next day via webroot. The next day my laptop was locked. I could start up but my keyboard and mouse wouldn’t work. I sent it back to where I bought my laptop. I just got it back not to long ago, lost all my documents etc and got my laptop wiped clean. The virus was removed and I checked and there isn’t anything on the laptop as it relates to the viruses. My new problem is shutting down my laptop. I have XP for the operating system. I will I will go to start, etc to shut it down. It will start and all that will remain is the desktop background and you can move the mouse. The laptop will just sit there. The only way to shut it down is to hit the power button. Or start it up and if I select shut down on the log in for the password, it will shut down.
Please help!

A:laptop lags on shutdown, using XP operating system for dell d830

Hi and welcome.
There can be many reason for a slow, sticking shutdown.
It is usually cause by a program, application, driver not shutting correctly.

Check what is running in the task bar.
Try shutting one of them down at a time [right click the icon - exit program]
Then shut down your Pc.

Check Task Manager [right click task bar] and see what is using the most resources.
End that program and then shutdown your Pc.

So I came across a couple of threads about people having the same laptop as mine and saying theyre able to at least play Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn on medium settings(not sure, think it was high) on 30 fps. I use medium too(no low settings unfortunately, tried lowering all the subsets and fps was same as medium/standard settings). They had the same problem as mine at first about the very low fps in crowded areas(<10fps) and 20ish fps on non crowded places or areas that arent too graphically intricate. But then they say it was the settings/setup that was causing the problems, about our laptop using the Intel gpu instead of the nVidia GTX 660m one. I remember it was sort of 2-3 threads I saw that had these problems, but some of the answers werent too direct or were pretty vague like this oneCan't get above 8 FPS on a Lenovo y580 | FFXIV ARR Forum - Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

If I wanted to keep my current home computer as my main server & be able to access it remotely via laptop any where in the world if I'm away for whatever reason.

What kind of laptop would be best?

My business is websites, so I almost automatically jump to an apple since its pushed more for the graphics/artists

But I also like the dells & alienwares.

I'd also like them to talk wirelessly/via bluetooth while they are in the same room together to "sync" up.

I'm just not sure which way to go.

I wont be gaming, just heaving internet surfing & web design/work.

I run Win7 64 & Ubuntu 64 (though I havent used it as much since win7 64 came out)

Apple is also pushed strongly in the professional audio sector.

That doesn't necessarily mean it is better for a professional or studio to use, however.

Any laptop will do. Look into Dameware software. It's great.

Hi everyone
I already have 3 computers, don't play games but do adobe premiere video editing, no special effects, simple timeine and cut and titles.
I will now start to move around to give some lectures and maybe with video projection, so I'm thinking a lot about connectivity and battery life.
I might do some video editing as well.... so firewire is important but I can get it with a pci card I think.
I've found that devoted video card is better, but expensive.
I've found a second hand Dell 620 with a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 110M for around $500
would it be better than a new Lenovo / Dell with a Laptop Intel GMA X4500 card ???
Anew lenovo/Dell with devoted video card is around $1000
Do I need more power for my use?
And I'm looking for a widescreen model also

What do you think?

I know I have an NVIDIA video card, and onboard Intel graphics. Are both of these being currently used to run a dual-display setup, or not? And would there be a way I could run 3 displays (2 externals + laptop) based on what I have in my system?

So I'm running Windows 7 on a Asus K53E with a 64 bit operating system and 4GB of RAM. I've had it for close to 5 years and can't really afford to get a new one at the moment.
Right now I'm having an issue where the laptop isn't running as smooth as I feel that it could. It's really noticeable when I stream any audio (or especially) video content anywhere online, something I do all of the time. The audio will stutter and glitch (creating kind of a dub-step sound effect). It's been happening for months, though it used to only happen if it wasn't plugged in, or if it'd been on for too long etc. Now it happens very frequently (sometimes once every other minute if not more) and nothing I've tried (updating the audio drivers and taking better care of it in general) has helped.
I haven't really been able to find much help online, though last night I downloaded a latency checker and saw repeated huge spikes in latency while streaming soccer matches and content from Netflix. I tried disabling and re-enabling various devices as the program recommended, but haven't been able to isolate any potentially faulty drivers. What was interesting however, is that I realized that these latency spikes weren't just occurring while content was streaming, but as I preformed other functions on my computer as well (mostly answering emails for my job). The whole system runs pretty laggy in general, I'm realizing now. Is there anything I can do?
I'm really out of id... Read more

I use my Dell D820 primarily for home automation and it is always on. Every couple of weeks, it freezes. The screen is dark, no keys have any effect including cntrl alt del. The only way I can recover is to hold the power button down to shut down and then re-boot.

Windows 7 has been kept up-to date, the machine has only a few apps on it. It has a solid state 250MB HD and 4GB of memory. I have used both Malwarebytes and Super Anti-Spyware to try to keep it clean.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I have a Dell XPS 15 (9550) that I received last week from Dell with a random screen flickering issue.
It is based on evalue order code: <ADMIN NOTE: Order number removed per privacy policy>
It is the 6th Gen Core i7, 16GB RAM, 15.6" FHD 1080p display (not 4k), 512GB SSD, 84WHr Battery, Intel 530 Graphics AND NVIDIA 960M

I saw a post about the XPS 13 with the intel display flickering being fixed with the new driver... I am running driver version for the Intel 530 and my screen is still constantly flickering  on my brand new XPS 9550.
Another Issue: I also noticed that in the Intel graphics properties config panel -> 3D -> Application Optimal Mode... this also causes issues with the start menu looking distorted and fuzzy, even making some of the white text look gray.  I disabled this to resolve that issue, but the screen still constantly flickers.
One thing I have done recently to mitigate the flickering is go into the NVIDIA driver control panel and set the NVIDIA card as the preferred graphics card, which works for most applications. As soon as the Intel card kicks back in the screen flickers... I have tried various drivers versions for this model off the Dell website without success. I am running Windows 10 Pro...  not sure if a newer driver is available and just not posted. For example the newest Laptop BIOS on the driver website ends in .3 while my pc came with .5 installed. A:Dell XPS 15 (9550) w/ Intel 530 / NVIDIA 960M - Intel Causing Screen Flickering

Another update... I was ready to give up as others have above when I found posts on the NotebookReviews forum mentioning this new Intel Driver:  downloadcenter.intel.com/.../Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10-15-40-6th-Gen
It won't install through the executable, but if you follow the instructions here for a manual install: www.windowscentral.com/how-install-intel-beta-graphics-drivers-surface  they do work.  Incidentally that link is regarding the exact same flickering problem on the MS Surface Book Pro(very similar hardware).  I'm 3 days in to using these drivers and it appears to have resolved the problem.  This is the longest I've gone without flickering by a long shot.
Note on the Intel download site the first of the "Key Issues Fixed"...  "Display may flicker on 6th Generation Intel Core and related processors".
I also updated to the latest WiFi drivers from Dell's site at the same time, so I can't be 100% certain my issues were fixed by just the display drivers, or if it was the combination of the two.

Windows 7 Professional
Dell Vostro 3500 Laptop
(about 15 months old)

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Laptop for a friend who has limited computer knowledge.
But I'm stumped as well.

It seems that they've had a strange freeze occur twice in the last month
(about 3 weeks in between)
The last occurence was when they had left the laptop alone for a while and it was asleep or something. When they came back to it to try to wake it up, they would get a mostly black screen with the Text "Windows 7 Professional" at the bottom. We watched the computer restart/start up together to try to Identify at what point did it look like it had gotten stuck on, and the closest thing was the Login screen. That is, the log in screen without the User name login, lower left "ease of access" button, and the upper left keyboard button. Also no mouse cursor would show up.
As far as I've been told, the only thing on the screen is the Windows 7 text at the bottom (possibly the logo alongside it)
The only way they've managed to get out of this freeze is to hold down the power button for several seconds to force shut down the computer.

The computer acts normally after this.

The first time it seemed like a one time occurence so I have fewer details as to the surrounding circumstances.
I'm also having a hard time troubleshooting it because I can't find a way to reproduce it at all.
(also they weren't expecting a crash and weren't paying close attention to what programs were open l... Read more

Hi- I have the Inspiron 1545. There is an issue with the screen. It has to be pivoted a certain way for the image to be clear. At certain angles and sometimes spontaneously, it freezes and slowly takes on a gray-white appearance with horizontal lines across the bottom of the screen. Bump it or re-position it, the screen image becomes clear again and you are back in action. It seams this is an issue with the laptop and not the software or anything. Is there a fix for this problem that someone is willing to share?

Unplug the system, remove or disconnect the battery and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
Try powering up again.
If that doesn't get it going, either the mainboard needs to be replaced, or you need to have a shop un-solder the BIOS chip, flash it externally and then resolder it.

I have a Dell XPS 15 L502X Laptop which has an integrated graphics card and a nvidia geforce gt 540m. Is it possible to replace the nvidia graphics card and if so what cards would be able to fit in the slot?

A:Can i swap out my nvidia graphics card in my Dell XPS 15 L502X laptop?

Nothing you could buy on the open market. You should really contact Dell and see if a better replacement is available for that model.
From the NVidia forum on this exact subject:
"Some laptops are fitted with MXM modules, which are basically mini PCIe graphics cards. These modules are replaceable, yet rarely upgradeable. Normally the laptop will be designed to support a particular module, both in terms of power & cooling as well as well as form factor. Unfortunately despite the fact that 'MXM' is a standard, there are enough differences between module and laptop design that you are probably stuck with what you've got.

For laptops which are not fitted with MXM modules, the only option is to replace the motherboard as the graphics chipset will be built in.

Caveats for others:

- If the laptop you bought had faster graphics options at point of purchase - i.e. the 580M was offered but you only went for the 540M, then it is possible that a higher performance MXM module may be available. It might take quite some trial and error and time on Google to find this out.

- If the laptop was available with an NVIDIA graphics card, but you only opted for the Intel on-board at the time, then it is possible you could find a replacement motherboard which has the NVIDIA chip fitted."

I'm not sure if I'm posting this thread in the right section, its my first thread post here.

I have a Dell n5110 i5(intel HD 3000 graphics),that I bought last year to assist me with my studies. I didn't care much about the graphics when I purchased it.
I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I read that I should have bought a laptop with a better card graphics if I was to play the latest games.Of all the games I would have liked to play GTA 4. I know its not possible with what I have.

I love my laptop though. And I intend to have it with me for a longtime even if I don't get to play the latest games(I can play older ones like Hitman blood money).
I'm curious, since I haven't found the answer elsewhere, whether it is possible to have a gaming card graphics added one day for the model of laptop I have.
Thanks in advance!

A:Changing card graphics(HD3000 intel) in Dell Laptop. Is it possible?

I looked at the specs for the N5110 and that laptop is designed for dual graphics.
It says it has an optional AMD Radeon HD 6470M graphics card.

First, I would check in the Device Manager to see if you have 2 graphics devices, if you do not already know that you bought the laptop without the dedicated graphics option.

If not, then I would look at purchasing the optional card from Dell.
I'd have more info but without a Service Tag number you can't get any info out of Dell.

Hi Dell,

I'd like to know why my pc don't ever boost to 3.8ghz no matter how hard I try, I just checked your website and intel's specification for this processor and it says that when using 1 core it would be able to boost to 3.8ghz, but during several tests the maximum I was able to reach was 3.6ghz ocassionally and constantly 3.5ghz with only 1 core, using all 4 cores/8threads I have sustained 3.4ghz (which is nice) but I feel that for a lot of applications like adobe suite softwares that depends on single core performance to apply filters this reduction of frequency can negatively affect my performance.

Beside this, all drivers are up to date according to dell.com website.

Kind regards.

Hello there,
I am a happy buyer of the latest dell gaming laptop 7567 with the i7 7700 HQ and the GTX 1050TI.
I have noticed while gaming that the GPU temp remains in good levels (max 70 degrees Celcius) but the CPU goes all the way up to low 90s sometimes which makes me a bit scared as I know that the max operational temp for this CPU is 100 degrees Celcius.
The fans kick in while gaming and they seem to be in full load. The low 90s appear for just a bit, but the temp remains still at high 80s on games like Battlefield 1, Rise of the Tomb Raider etc. Even Archeage manages to put the CPU temp up to 85 degrees Celcius.
The laptop was bought in April, temp in the room is around 25-27 degrees Celcius when I am gaming.
Should I be worried ? Is it something normal?
Thanks in advance and sorry if someone has reposted a similar issue with this laptop.

My laptop has the NVIDIA 960M installed. Both intel530 and NVIDIA960M are shown to be working in the device manager. However I cannot switch to the 960M. I have updated all drivers. No matter what the intel530 stays default.  What am I doing wrong?

Recently my laptop lags like mad without me opening much programs. I checked the task manager and it shows that only 23% or system is being used. However, the hard disk in use light is always on, and it seems to be continuously churning even though i did not run any programs (i've disabled norton and diskeeper to check). I've tried scanning with spybot and norton 2009 in safe mode and both did not detect any problems. I've attached the hijack this log file together. Thanks to anyone who can help.

So I've being having this problem since I bought the machine. I requested assistance from Dell and the sent a technician to chang my motherboard since the problem, they said, was on the graphic card. So after changing it the problem is still there. I've already tried to reinstall the video drivers of both the integrated intel video card and the Nvidia video card. So thing is that when I watch a video each 15 min there is a video lag (like let's say I start watching a 2h video and start at 09.50am, i'm going to have a lag at 10.00 then at 10.15 another one at 10.30 another one at 10.45 and so on until the end of the video) and this happens with all videos.
I don't know how relevant this is, but I've being having an error (which I found from SupportAssist history) from svchost.exe. (I'm not sure of why it's giving me the error or what the program is). I attached the screenshot of what SupportAssist says regarding the error.

Can I install WinXP Pro from older Dell laptop on to new Dell laptop?

I am using a Dell Inspiron 8200 right now and in order to save some money on my new Dell laptop, I'd like to order Home or MediaCenter with the new computer and then install WinXP Pro myself instead of paying the extra $119 to have them do it. I have a Reinstallation CD of WinXP Pro that came with the old Dell laptop; will I be able to use it to install WinXP Pro on my new one?

A:Can I install WinXP from older Dell laptop on to new Dell laptop?

probably not no. they are usually pretty good at stopping people install their restore discs onto different systems.

Laptop works all fine when on battery power, but when i plug it in, the laptop starts to lag, and my games have a constant 20-24FPS. I also noticed when the laptop is plugged in at 80% or higher it won't lag, however, when i plug it in at 20% or so, the whole laptop lags.

Hello I own a hp pavilion and I had it since december 2014 and ever since about June 2015 My laptop started lagging while chargeing. So basicly games run flawless when I do not charge my computer but right when I plug it in I go from 65-70 fps to about 25-30 fps. Its a massive drop and I can now only play my laptop for a hour until I have to charge it agian. Once agian this randomly happened around June and all the time I had my laptop before that games ran smooth on battery but all of that changed.. I tryed messing around with my power settings by switching to balanced mode and practicly every other solution I saw to this probem but nothing worked. Can someone please help me out I am about to quit pc gaming until I get a new computer.

A:Laptop lags when charging

Hi @Joe40?, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion Notebook and issues with lags when charging. Here is a link to calibrate and test the Battery. Calibration should eliminate this issue. Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue. HP Battery Check in HP System Diagnostics for Windows 8, would give you details of charging and discharging.Testing and Calibrating the battery using HP System Diagnostics in Windows 8. At the starting of the Notebook, Press F2 to select F2 System Diagnostics. Then choose Component Tests, then battery. You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook. When performing a System restore please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices as they can cause issues. Did you install any new Software programs link a virus protection software. You could reset the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. Which has helped others as it restores the fans default settings. Please let me know how ... Read more

Hi.  I recently upgraded the software. It actually seemed fine. However a week ago, I had to run a compulsory update(those that the computer does when we shut down ) and ever since then, it has started to lag very badly. It takes close to 5 min to start up or shut down. And every application I use crashes (google chrome, Microsoft word and even settings) after freezing totally. I have to force shut down to get it to work again. Ive tried waiting but to no avail. Please let me know what I can do. I do not play games in the laptop nor keep it in sleep mode. Ive also run a disk clean up, and conducted malware scans. Nothing seems to solve the issue. The laptop is close to 2 years old and is only used for projects. Le me know what I can do. Please and thank you!

Laptop is

Asus u45jc-a1. Laptop specs are i3-370 processor and 4gb ram. Had 250gb hard drive but i went and got a 250gb Samsung Pro SSD hard drive b/c i was told i would not have any lagging at all when playing 20+ tables with HEM and TN on.

Well whenever i get close to that... my laptop lags and freezes a lot on pokerstars. Basically to the point where its moving so slow and lags a lot and im sitting out at my tables. Does anyone know why my laptop lags this much even with the ssd? I had thought with the ssd, i would not have any problems at all. I doubt its b/c its only an i3 processor?

Thing is back in the usa, my desktop was an i5 processor with 4gb ram. I used Holdem Manager and Tableninja and rarely did i ever get any lag and playing 20+ tables. This was when i didn't have an SSD and the desktop while playing on stars back a few years ago... is faster than my laptop now with a samsung pro ssd.

Anyone know what i can do? I defrag my laptop every week. Maybe its the amount of processes that startup on my laptop?

Im very confused why this is happening b/c i thought ssd would solve any lagging or slowness while multabling on with HEM and TN.

A:Default Laptop Lags Even With SSD?

I did the task manager checking to see how much memory is used when playing lot of tables and when its lagging
Cpu usage is 50 percent.. 70 percent physical memory.. 2.65gb used and 103 processes
is what i see when pressing task manager when playing many tables
what should i do now then?
someone tell me that my laptop is slow b/c i3 for a laptop is much slower than an i3 for a desktop computer? Someone said my desktop which is an i5 is a quadcore and this one i3... isn't that fast. He said i have to get a new laptop. Is that correct? I know you cant really buy an i5 or i7 processor and put that in a laptop right? I was told thats very hard compared to desktop? Someone said buy new laptop fast one, then take my samsung ssd and put it on the new laptop. But thing is i really like this laptop b/c its very small size and like it.
Anything i can do with the processes? I have about 80 that start up at the minimum even when im doing nothing on it when browsing online...

Hello, My laptop seems to lag or slow down quite significantly when on the charger. I have owned it for about two years now and it has never done this before until about a month ago. Once it reaches around 15% battery power it slows down dramatically, and when plugged in, it is extremely slow, once it is charged, i must remove the charger and restart the computer before it runs fine again, it doesnt seem to over heat as the fan rarely ever kicks on and is ice cold to the touch. I've read a couple of things of others having similar issues and have tried a number of things. I've tried setting all the charging options to match the battery options under power options. I've tried removing the battery and running on just the charger, I checked the charger cord for the recall that's ongoing, doesnt match the recall numbers. Also i have updated the bios as well. I'm not very intelligent when it comes to computers but i have tried about everything i can think of to try to remedy this issue but nothing has worked so far. If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

If I try to play a graphic intensive game such as Fallout 3, it tends to lag/stick a little during the game but not all the time, just periodically. I'd like to be able to devote all the pc resources to the game, is there a way I could set up a second account on the laptop with a certain minimised start up, so that the laptop would be able to run the game comfortably with nothing going on in the background?

Am running Vista with 2GB ram and have an nvidia card but I think it is shared memory which may be part of the problem. I figure if I can minimise the programs running in the background I should be able to improve performance slightly, is this right?

A:Laptop lags a little during gaming

Try it out. Create another administrative account, open msconfig.exe (Run, type "msconfig", press enter), open Startup tab, uncheck everything else than drivers(nWiz, nvmctray, the nvcpl can go, then any audio drivers you have, don't disable them). If you're unsure, google all uncertain entries in the list, you should be able to determine what they are), you might want to disable antivirus and firewalls too, just disconnect from wireless (and wired, if you're at it), while using that account to game.
Another reason could be slight overheating. You could want to try running with the laptop elevated a bit from the surface it's on, for example put books on the sides to raise it(if there aren't vents on the sides. Put the books or whatever anywhere where there isn't a cooling vent/grill)... If this seems to help, you might want to get a laptop cooler (a box with fans or passive coolers that helps keep the laptop a bit cooler)

Over the last 2 days I have been having a problem as indicated in the title of this post. The fault has rectified itself 3 times, but again today, it is back to "battery plugged in, not charging." As I am running the laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium; 32 bit) on the adapter without problems, I assume that the adapter itself may not be faulty.
I also have a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop running Windows 7.  Can I safely use that adapter with the Vista laptop, without causing damage to the Vista ?  If it is safe to do so, and the battery on the Vista starts charging, then it would indicate that the Vista adapter/charger has some kind of fault.
Hoping someone can give me some guidance. Thanks.

A:Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. Battery plugged in not charging. Can I use adapter from a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop ?

If the adapter has the same plug and the same or higher power rating, you can swap them.
Check to see whether the 1545 recognizes the AC adapter or whether it shows unknown (F2 at powerup).  If it shows unknown with two different adapters, you have a bad power jack or a bad mainboard.

I have tried to search under /realtek after some reading that it was one of the suggested solutions but I can not find aw sound center in it. I have tried reinstalling my drivers from dell's website but I still can't get the software. My computer was preloaded with it but after resetting it, I have lost the software and I don't know how I can get it back.
