Q: Issues using HP 2013 Ultraslim docking station to connect HP...

I have an HP Elitebook 850 and an HP 2013 Ultraslim Docking Station. I've been using them for over a year with dual 27" WQHD monitors (2560x1440) through the dual displayport connections on the back of the docking station. I recently upgraded to a 32" BenQ UHD (4K) monitor, and while it works perfect if I connect the DisplayPort cable directly to my laptop, I am having problems getting it to display anything when connected through the docking station. This problem makes it so I can't use the docking station and the new monitor together. Some more details:- Running Windows 7 x64- When monitor & laptop are connected to docking station, Windows recognizes the 4K monitor is there, but won't display anything on it (monitor thinks there is no input). I undock and connect to the laptop directly and it recognizes/displays instantly.- I've tried docking port firmware version 2.27 (what I had originally - SoftPaq#71104) and 2.30 (SoftPaq#75855). Both were downloaded through the "HP SoftPaq Download Manager". And yes, I undocked/unplugged/rebooted/etc in between with no difference in result.- I've tried configuring the monitor with every different resolution from 800x600 all the way to 4K - none of them get anything displayed if it's connected through the docking port (but all work fine if connected directly to the laptop). I'm at my wits end here - How can I get the docking station to work with my new monitor?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi all - I could use some help.  I have my Elitebook 1040 in the 2013 Ultraslim docking station with two LG monitors connected through the Display ports.  It's worked great for the past 2 months. All of the sudden, my screen was going black and then after 3 seconds would turn back on (this happened on both LG monitors). After reading other threads, I went an installed the latest version of software for the docking station as that seemed to be the issue.  Well now neither monitor works when I re-dock the computer. Out of the dock, if I connect one, no problem.   Any recommendations on how I fix the doc?

We have several HP 2013 Ultraslim Docking stations that have audio interference issues when connecting to the dock audio out. If there are not any other external devices connected to the dock, the sound is normal. If an External device is connected to the dock via VGA, USB, or display port, the audio out connection becomes noisy. We have connected the audio out to a multitude of different classroom amps and TVs and the noise issue is still present. If I connect a ground loop isolator in line with the audio output on the dock, the noise is no longer present on any of the devices. Could this be an issue of improper shielding in the analog audio connection? Audio drivers and dock firmware have been updated with no improvement. Does anyone else have this issue? Thanks

We have around 530 of these in the company and we are having a repeated number returned to our Support team as the USB ports are failing. The error showing on the Laptops (all hp revolve 810's) is Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed). Its getting to the stage where it is costly to just replace them and we would love to know if anyone has a fix. Once one has failed it wont work on any of our laptops and all the 'usual' fixes are not working.

I have an HP EliteBook 745 G3 with Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit. I have a Viewsonic VP2770-LED monitor. I have my personal PC and the ELiteBook attached to a VellBox 2 port DispalyPort KVM switch. When the EliteBook is booted with it selected on the KVM it boots and works fine. However, if I subsequently switch the monitor to my home PC and then switch back to the EliteBook, the USB keyboard and mouse swithc OK but the monitor does not. If I use Fn F4 to switch to an external monitor it does not work. If I restart the ELiteBook it does not detect the external monitor and Fn F4 will not switch  either. If I power the EliteBook off and then back on again, every time it detects the external monitor and switches to that.  I have also tried this with a StarTech 2 port USB DisplayPort KVM switch and I have the same issue. Whenever I switch to my desktop PC it works everytime, so the issue lies either in the doscking station or the EliteBook I have have updated the HP Ultraslim Docking Station DisplayPort firmware, the AMD Graphics Driver and the ViewSonic driver to the latest versions but I still have the same issue. Has anyone else seen this issue or doies anyone know of a solution? Keith.

When trying to use a Displayport to VGA or a Displayport to DVI cable to connect from an HP 2013 Ultraslim Docking station to an external display, the display comes up with no signal and goes to sleep. Connecting with a VGA cable, it works fine. We were able to replicate this issue with multiple new, fresh out of the box docking stations. The issue happens on any monitors that we connect, even ones that work with other docks. It seems to be the Intel Displayport Topology is picking up the display and making it so that the displayport cannot be activated without connecting 3 monitors.  The older version of the Ultraslim Docking station that only had 1 displayport seems to work just fine, it's just the newer 2013 version that has 2 displayports that has this issue.  Does anyone know if there is any newer firmware or where I can disable/stop the Displayport Topology from picking up this one monitor and trying to make it 3 displays? If not, we're probably going to have to go back to USB adapters and those are no fun. Thanks,Andrew System info:HP Elitebook 840 G1, G2, and G3 (Issue has occured with all 3 models.)Windows 7 Enterprise x64HP 2013 Ultraslim Docking StationDock Firmware 2.30Updated Graphics, Chipset and USB drivers to latest version from HP's website.

These docking stations do not have the dvi port so we have to have dvi to display port adapters. We have a lots of these c2g cables that are dvi to DisplayPort but only about 20% of the time the cable gets detected by the laptop when it's docked. The other 80% of the time the laptop does not see the monitor when it's connected to the dock. But when the cable is connected to the laptop itself it works fine. So we know it's a problem with dock. I called hp and we updated to firmware 2.3 and updated the video drivers but nothing work. Apparently there is a known problem with this docking and the displayport. Now the HP premium support technician L2 is saying hp does not support third party cabling companies and you have to use on of their cables and if you have trouble with one the hp cables/ adapter they will then look into it.Has anyone else ran into this? If there is a known problem with the docking station where it's not allowing other cables to work and only their cables to work now is that allow? Does anyone know of a brand of adapter/cable that works. We have tried other cables and adapter and keep having the same problem.

I got a new Elitebook along with the HP Ultraslim 2013 docking station. When I dock the notebook, none of the peripherals are recognized, including a VGA monitor, or USB mouse and keyboard. Only the Ethernet works. Even the power is not working. I have the Ultraslim powered, but it is not charging the battery. The docking station power button lights up after I dock the laptop. There is a power LED that is turned on near the power cord of the Ultraslim power port. I've tried to dock it, turn off the Ultraslim, then turn back on. No change. I've undocked - unplugged everything. Dock, then plug everything in and still no change. I'm not sure if there is some setup that has to be done for the dock, e.g. run the drivers, etc. Shouldn't this just be plug-And-Play? I have Windows 7 Professional on an Intel i7-5600U. Hello I've got an HP Folio 9470m together with the HP Ultraslim Docking Station (D9Y32AA#UUZ) featuring 2 DisplayPort connectors and a VGA connector. I would like to connect two digital screens to the docking station in extended mode. First I have tried to connect two screens with two DP to DVI adapters which didn't work. The screens have only been able to be used in clone mode (showing same screen content) but not in extended desktop mode. Then I thought this might be an issue of DP->DVI converters as the dock might not support this. So I bought 2 DP cables and tried multiple combinations:- 2x DP/DVI converter cable- 1x DP, 1x DP/DVI converter cable- 2x DP native Unfortunately none of the combinations worked in extended mode. The screen setup always falls back to clone mode. Intel Graphics setup menu also just shows selection between one external screen and "Monitor" (which is the laptop built-in screen). It actually works in extended mode only if I use 1 DP port and the VGA port on the docking station. So I can work in extended screen mode like this. But in year 2014 it's simply ridiculous having to connect FullHD+ screens via analog VGA. So I would like to know how to use these 2 DP connectors on the UltraSlim docking station. Even more strange I found that using the DisplayPort connector in conjunction with one of the DP connectors of the dock while docked it works in extended mode. So the laptop is able to handle it. Just the dock seems not to ... Read more

I can't seem to find the documentation I found on a forum but the intial batch of slim docking stations WILL NOT allow 2 dp at the same time.  It is due to the architecture of the of the laptop and the docking station.  In order for two dp at the same time, you  will need to buy the 2013 one.  (I will try to find the product number for you).  Their workaround was to use VGA and DP at the same time, which you have already figured out. Update: Looks like the page is not found, however, the title says it all. http://h30094.www3.hp.com/product.aspx?sku=10731964&pagemode=ca "Alert: Dual display limitations of 2013 HP UltraSlim Docking Station with HP EliteBook Folio 9470m N..." Update #2:  Found it attached.    Can't upload pdf files

Do you know which version of the HP Ultraslim Docking station  you have?    There were some specific changes in regards to the 2013 generation of the dock where the docking station has 2 x DisplayPorts instead of earlier versions that only had one DisplayPort and one VGA. If you have the later 2013 Generation docking station and have 2 x DisplayPorts,   those monitors should be fine.  And you'd of course need the two displayport cables to use with the monitors (monitors might come with them, but make very sure they do). The 2013 Model looks like this (2 Display ports to the right of the Network jack):http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61ZSGNoW0sL._SL1500_.jpg Whereas the older model looks like this (single DisplayPort, next to the Network jack):http://content.hwigroup.net/images/products_xl/172474/hp-ultraslim-docking-station.jpg If the monitors do not come with cables,  I highly recommend Monoprice.com as your source for those or ANY cabling.   The link below is for 3 foot long cables, but depending on the layout of his desk, you might want 6-10 foot cables.  Below link is an example:http://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=13359   Brian

Update:  After calling HP technical support I and being bounced among various clueless offshore tech support reps, I finally landed on the US-based workstation support department.  Justin looked up the problem and identified it as a known issue and is replacing my monitor cable with one that HP says will work.   Also, in the meantime there is a workaround that I had figured out.  If you don't use the displayport port on the ultraslim docking station but pug the cable directly into the computer it works fine.  There is some inconvienence associated with this as you have to plug it in every time you dock and unplug it every time you undock (and of course the cable always falls behind the desk while you are doing this), but it is okay as a solution while I am waiting for the new cable to arrive.  Will update this post after it arrives and report whether it works.

A reboot out of the docking is required. I updated:- the bios to V1.05- Ubuntu from 14 to last 16.04 LTS- kernel from 4.4.0 to 4.4.9- the docking firmware to 2.15.000(7 Jan 2014) I also try this post http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/External-Dual-Monitors-and-Lapt... Note:1/ This PC is a dual boot (Windows 10 and Ubuntu). On window 10 it is running fine.2/ I got another PC Elite book 850 G2 under Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. With the same docking and the same monitors, there is no problem Thanks for your help

So i'm using a Folio 9470m at work on a 2013 Ultraslim Docking station with 2 Display Port connectors, but if i attach two screens to those it only displays them as one device and mirrors the image on both screens. Furthermore if i go into the screen and resolution settings, both identify as screen 1, but i can set 3840x1080 instead of 1920x1080 and at that moment the picture will span over both screens as one. The downside to this is that the login screen, windows i open for the first time, they're all gonne appear in the middle where the bezels are, it handles them as one bigger screen and not as 2 screens that extend each other. I need them to be detected as 2 seperate screens, and so far i have had no success. Has anyone experienced this or knows a solution? I really don't want to connect the second screen via VGA. Can the folio handle 2 display port connections on a dock? Is this maybe the cause?

As far as I know the  Folio 9470m doesnt support more then one external display.  I think you can verify this by having a look at the quickspec document for the model.

Hey everyone,

I have a Precision M6800 Mobile Workstation with a PRO3X K07A E-Port Docking Station (https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Latitude-PR03X-Docking-Station/dp/B002LK2F2I/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1503170114&sr=1-1&keywords=k07a).
From what I see, this is compatible with my laptop (http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/sln286158/a-guide-to-docking-stations-and-port-replicators-on-dell-latitude-and-precision-notebooks?lang=en#Add_Info).
I use the docking station with two additional monitors and other devices. If I connect the already powered off laptop, that was previously powered on without the docking station, the eject button does not power on, the connected devices do not work, and the laptop is extremely slow. If I then power off the laptop while connected, disconnect it from the docking station, reconnect it to the docking station, then the eject light illuminates, and it works perfectly.

To recreate this issue:

disconnect the laptop,
power it on,
use it for a while and then power the laptop off,
connect the laptop to the docking station, the ejection light does not illuminate,
power on the laptop while connected,
wait to be able to power it down,
disconnect the laptop from the docking station,
reconnect the laptop to the docking station, the eject light illuminates,
and finally power on the laptop and it works perfectly.
I've updated the laptop with the latest BIOS to no avail. This happens regardless of the OS installed as I... Read more

I purchased 2 HP 22er monitors along with an HP UltraSlim Docking Station. Much to my suprise (not understanding the ports like I should) the docking station only has 1 VGA port. I also purchased 2 HDMI cables prior to receiving all three items thinking this is how I would connect the two monitors to the dock but the dock doesn't have HDMI ports. So now I am all confused on how I connect the two monitors to the docking station? Any assistance would be appreciated. The second thing I was wondering is for the 2 HP 22er monitors is there a dual monitor stand that will work with these? I see that they do not have the configuration on the back to screw into any of the stands for sale. I feel like I made the worst choice in monitors get the set up I want.

Good Morning, First of all thank you very much in advance for your support... I have a problem with this product, I have plugged in an EliteBook HP, but unfortunatly when docked the VGA of the laptop could not be used. I would like to use the VGA embedded in the docking station AND at the same time the VGA of the laptop. Any solution? many thanks Solution already tried but still not working:1) I have already tried to move to the screen page on the control panel, but the monitor linked to the laptop VGA is not working (when the docking station is plugged in)2) sp65034.exe returns me an error "Faild to find synaptic mst dp hub ic" so I cannot install ithttp://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=ob_128239_1

I don't know which notebook model you have, but I'm finding random posts online about HP notebooks only being able to drive one analog monitor at a time, so you may be out of luck there. That docking station firmware update is for Displayport hub built into the docking station.  It can only be updated if you're connected to at least one monitor using displayport.  And it has nothing to do with analog port anyway, so it won't help you even if you could update the firmware.

I hooked up DP cables on the docking station and the maximum resolution that I could get is 2560x1440.  When I tried to connect directly from the laptop to the monitor I was able to get 3840x2160.  So I know that the laptop is able to display at 4k. Does anyone know whether the docking station has a limitation or whether there is some firmware that needs to be updated? Thanks.

I got the same issue. Did you ever find a solution? I've got a HP Elitebook 840 G3 with BenQ BL3201 4k monitor. I get signal directly from my computer but not when connection through the docking station. I've also updated the dockingstation firmware (http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=7815295&swItemId=ob_165723_1&swEnvOid=419...) but issue persists. //Mattias

Hi, I have a HP 2013 Ultra Slim Docking Station with Elitebook pro 840G1 but I can't display op either DP ports from the docking station when I connect my Dell 2516Q 4k monitor. When I plugin the DP cable directly on the laptop it works like a charm. Seem that the dockingstation doesn't support this monitor. Is there a firmware or driver I need to install to get this working? Thank you for the feedback and assistance. Jack
