Duplicate & Triplicate Email msgs-Why?

Q: Duplicate & Triplicate Email msgs-Why?

I am experiencing a siege of duplicate & triplicate email msgs. This happens sporadically but hasn't plagued me lately until just tonight. What's happening? Chuck Wilmot ([email protected])

Preferred Solution: Duplicate & Triplicate Email msgs-Why?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Duplicate & Triplicate Email msgs-Why?

You probably have a corrupt POP3UIDL.DBX file.

Close OE and delete that file (search for it on hard drive).

It will be recreated when you re-open OE.

However BE VERY CAREFUL, there can be bad things happen if you do this, so make sure you read up about it first.

I am not takin responsibility for what might happen, but this worked on my machine. There are also special instructions for hotmail users.

I use outlook 2010 for my email at home. I notice that quite often when I download my email I get duplicates and sometimes triplicates of the same messages. Trying to figure out why that is.
I do have my email set up on both my phone and my kindle fire as well. I almost never access it on my phone as I always had trouble getting the body of messages on it for some reason. I occasionally access it on my Kindle. I am wondering if this has to do with one or both of them. I haven't been able to discern a pattern. I am pretty sure in the cases of the phone and kindle I have set the messages not to be removed from the server, so that I will get them on my computer. But can't imagine why that would mean I would receive them multiple times. And it is not consistent. Not every message is repeated all the time.

Since upgrading, when I go to file explorer I have duplicates of everything, e.g., several desk tops, several My PCs, several libraries. It's hard to judge how many because inside each on are duplicate icons. So every folder I have appears multiple times. I counted at least 4 for each of my HD's (internal and external) all my USB drives (which shouldn't even show up unless they are in use), etc.

I've included a screen shot but it's a little confusing since there are so many duplications, I couldn't show them in one shot. If you look you will that the first image goes down to Library > Network. The remaining icons are on the second page (though the second page also includes stuff from the first). Just start with Network on the second page.

A:Duplicate, triplicate and more of content icons

So I've managed to eliminate or hide most of the duplicates except for my external drive. It shows up under My PC and as an independent item under File Explorer.

I have read threads relating to this problem but have found no solution.

I use Windows XP and have problems with Outlook 2002 receiving 2, 3 and sometimes 4 of the same message. Fortunately the duplicates do directly into my Deleted folder, but it is still tough navigating through Deleted email when in search of important email which went to Deleted automatically. That is another issue.

I have tried removing all my email accounts and starting over. That did not work. All three of my email accounts have different Incoming Mail Servers.

Can someone tell me why suddenly I am getting repetitious email messages (as many as quads, in some cases)? This has happened occasionally in the past but only sporadically and not for quite a while recently. But tonight I'm getting a rash of them. Chuck Wilmot ([email protected])

A:Duplicate, Triplicate & Quadruplicate Messages!!

Now Chuck, you know better than to post duplicate threads.

Sounds like the server, sometimes they can get hung up there and repeat sending. May also be a virus on their end, not up on those. Check yourself for a virus also. http://housecall.antivirus.com/pc_housecall/ If you dont turn up anything, I would call your ISP and let them know.

I was having trouble with my cheap NIC so I got another one. It didn't work at all so i put the old one back in.

Now Windows is calling my NIC "adaptor #2" and my LAN "local area connection #2." This in spite of my having uninstalled the NICs before changing them.

I've seen this before, mostly when changing modems or whatever in Win98. The problem is now i have -another- new NIC and i want to start clean. There are references all through the registry to my original NIC, the intermediary defective one, and the "#2" that I put back in. I'm just guessing here... probly have 4 configurations after i install my new card.

How can i get rid of all this junk? I'm scared to mess with network stuff in the registry. And none of these are in the device manager, since i unistalled them.

I read on the knowledge database help section on Thunderbird that imap is used by default instead of pop which is what I originally set it up with.I'm using a different ISP now and still have the same problem. It must be coming from an email server but I don't know how to contact them or configure it? A:Duplicate email problem

The info in the link below describes several scenarios of why emails are duplicated.
Email Troubleshooting - Duplicate Emails
I think this one applies to you because you receive duplicates of every email.

I get multiple copies of every email.
Likely cause: You have multiple forwarders set up. Let's say person A is getting the double copies. Perhaps emails to B forward to A and C, while emails to C also forward to A. So A is getting the emails from both B and C.

I have 2 computers - an eMachines desktop and a Gateway laptop. They are both Windows 7, and I use Windows Live Mail on both. I use the desktop during the day, and set up the laptop on the bed for the evening before I go to sleep. I have 3 email addresses, and want to use the 3rd one on both computers. This way, I don't have to have my friends or groups writing to me at two different addresses, which is difficult to remember and complicated for them. When I'm not at the desktop, I want to receive the email from the 3rd address on the laptop, and vice versa.

The problem that arises is, I get full downloads of all emails for the day on both computers. Anything I've already received on the desktop is also received when I move to the laptop later in the day. Is there any way to stop these duplicate downloads?

One of my users is having problems with email server timeouts and duplicate email. I'm assuming the two problems are realted. It started after he returned from a long vacation. I cleaned several virus's from hundreds of files, installed and implemented SpyBot to take care of adware and put AVG on his system.

Server timeouts occur every time he tries to get his email, (OE). Some messages are being duplicated a dozen or more times. His ISP says they can't help and the problem must be at his end.

I found a thread here that talks about a corrupted Pop3uidl.dbx file but it is a very old thread(2001), and I can't find that filename on my system.

I use windows Live Mail, wife uses XP. Many in my vomputer club use XP, Vista,win7 as I do.

I have been accused of forwarding messages to a group of people, one of which claimed she got over 50 of them. Another friend has been accused of sending a message to two people that claimed to receive many copies. In on case my wife got a message with overa full page of the same message and suddenly they started deleting dwon to one message

In all the cases mentioned the sent message total showed just one message. I have searched the web for possible reason for this whithout a clear possible cause. In one case I got a reply for Outlook and Outlook Express that was to protect the person receiving the duplicate copies but nothing about settings that would prevent the action.

Does anyone have any ideas??? Pleae ignor missplelled words I slept during spelling during growing up.

A:duplicate email messages, lots of them

One common cause of repeated sends that can be traced back to your actual mail program is possibly anti-malware tools that are trying to scan outgoing email, or otherwise interfere with the proper operation of the mail program. It's a common cause of repeated (or failed) downloads of email, and when the feature is enabled to scan sent mail, it can interfere there as well.

Depending on the type of interference, the email program responds by saying "well, that didn't work, I'll try to send it again" - and again, and again.

The solution here is pretty simple: locate that feature in your anti-malware or security suite, and turn it off. You may need to close and restart your email program, or even reboot your machine for the change to take effect.

Another possibility is that the Sent folder has a size limit. Let's say there's a 2GB limit for all saved Sent emails. Once that limit is reached weird things can happen. If there are a lot of emails with photo attachments, etc in the Sent folder, it wouldn't be all that hard to reach the mail box limit. Try creating a new folder. Call it whatever you want; maybe something like "SentArchive", or "OldSenrMail" and move all the messages in your Sent folder to the new folder. That should a) retain all your sent messages should you need to refer to them, and b) empty the Sent folder so the mail box limit isn't a factor.

Another possibility is that your email account has been compromised. This art... Read more

This is my first post to this site which looks like a great resource!

A friend recently sent a response to an email I'd sent her which included several embedded photos. Her email included lots of 'goobledegook' (random letters and numbers) and the photos had been deleted. I also received 30 duplicate emails that only contained the goobledook. Each email had a different number at the end of the subject line but was posted at the same time. After that I've received about 12 copies of this same email each time I open Outlook. I've done a scan of Program Files using ESET Smart Security but nothing was found. I'm running Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2007.

My friend let me know that something similar has happened before and that she has problems every time she tries to send an attachment.

Any suggestions about how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated!

many thanks

A:Continuous duplicate email problem

A common cause of this is a bad message on the server that Outlook is unable to download properly. When it gets to that message it stops downloading and never continues to the step where it deletes the downloaded messages from the server. The next time you try to download, those same messages are still on the server and they get downloaded again.

Login to webmail and delete all the messages that have been getting downloaded repeatedly, and delete the next message after them, which is likely to be the one that's causing the failure. Then try downloading with Outlook again.

I have Microsoft Outlook 2003 on a few computers. It appears that they get their emails from a local server which is defined as the MS Exchange Server. (Box ticked for Use Cached Exchange Mode). Outlook is then configure with my username to pull my emails of the server (i guess...). I get an email to my company email from an external source (not company email) that is CC to another company email address, and I will get a duplicate email in my inbox. If it is CC to 2 people I will get 2 duplicates (3 messages in total) This leads me to believe that outlook is not configured to pull the right emails from the server right? However, when receiving an email from an internal source (company email) and it is CC to another compnay member, I only get 1 copy. When dealing with 1 to 1 emails, everything works fine. Any ideas?

I've had this problem for years. My Windows Live Mail 2012 frequently (not always) downloads duplicates of every new email. The email protocol is POP3. Someone suggested I should use IMAP. I tried it. . . but, at least with Comcast's system, IMAP duplicates what's on the server. . . which can go back several years of emails. . . which I DO NOT want to retain. Comcast provides no option to delete emails older that X days, so when I switched to IMAP, every g.d. email I've received in the last 3 years downloaded to my Inbox. So I went back to POP3.

So why do I get duplicates?

I have been trying to get my daughters computer to play the monopoly game. It isnt the game causing this problem because now it does it without playing a game. Let me give yall a little background and see what you think. This computer came from a pawn shop. My daughter is 10 and all I want it for is to keep her busy playing games and that sort of thing. I know it is a pentium processer 200Mhz. It has a 10 gig hard drive which has c and d drives as non-removable. Ram is 32mb. It has 2 meg memory. It is a dell computer. (about 4 or 5 years old) When I had windows 98 on the system it ran fine except it would not play my games I wanted to play. The screen would either turn black or it would show vertically a bunch of the same thing. Well today I decided to upgrade to windows XP and see if that would help the situation any and now it does the same thing. The computer said it was changing my monitor resolution so that the screen would show up better and it started the same thing the games was doing. Any suggestions? This computer is for Christmas (Santa Clause) and I dont have much time. Any suggestions would help. Does it need a new graphics card you think?

I am getting multiple copies of my emails
You probably have a corrupt POP3UIDL.DBX file.Close OE and delete that file. It will be recreated when you re-open OE. One more download to get pop3uidl.dbx up to date (OE uses this file to keep track of what has already been downloaded), and you should be right.

Also, if you have more than one email account on the same POP3 server (same ISP, different names) then keep on server will not work because of a known OE bug.

Following is special instructions for Hotmail and Outlook Express:

When you download Hotmail, either do not access the Hotmail folder itself whilst downloading, or turn off the option to include Hotmail in a send/receive.

If you access the Hotmail folder (which initiates a download) at the same time as OE is retrieving from the same Hotmail account, you can (and often will) get two copies of the email.

I am about ready to throw this to the curb, but I would not have a computer anymore.

Still having problems with auto shut downs & restarts.

Have had these BSOD messages in the past few days:

0x00000019 (0x00000020, 0x8242S3E0, 0x824254A0, 0x0A18DC10)

0x00000050 (0xFC3ADBD4, 0x00000000, 0xA9752C2C, 0x00000000)

0x000000D0 (0x8522200C, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x80548D1D) or D11)

no error name given, just the following:
0x000000C5 (0x3F900401, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x8054B7E8)

there are more error messages, but someone threw my notes away! argh

If I format my hard drive & reinstall everything all over again, will this stop the BSOD's & the auto restarts?

How about if I set my computer back to factory settings?

And how would I format my hard drive or set it back to factory settings...just right click on the C drive?

How do I save my Favorites to a cd to reinstall later after reformatting this thing?

A:BSOD msgs please help?

Please help!

I want to save all my desktop & favorites on cd then format the hd if need be or return this baby to factory condition & start new. Would like to do this today while I have the time and before this thing totally dies.

Will that stop the errors?

I am not the most tech savvy person.

I removed IE7. I would like to install SP3, but is this going to make me have all those errors I have been having? If so, then I don't want it.

Checked event log. having DCOM issues and more. Since I don't know how to fix these problems, I see formatting or returning this to factory settings as the only solution...BUT I still don't know if doing either of those will stop these BSOD issues and auto restarts.

I tried to do an update on MS' site but it would not work.

I think removing IE7 may have messed up something.

Well, I got a lot, and neither Dell nor Aol has done anything. First off when I go on computer, even before I go to AOL, in desktop, I get this msg: HKCMD Module has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience, etc, Please tell Microsoft about this problem, we have created an error report....., send error report, don't send error report. Usually I send as many times as it comes up, every time. Also, when I am in AOL, the bottoms of my letters are chopped off, and also, my screens seem to be too high on the monitor, sometimes off it completely. I am ready to trash the thing. Nobody can help, it seems. Also, one last, when I get msagesWeb page unavailable offline, I cannot delete it using the right top x

When I open up OutLook Express 6, in receiving mail (from msn.com acct.) it downloads them twice each. If I close OE and then re-open it, one of the duplicate emails will delete itself in all downloaded msgs. Any help in understanding this and resolving it would be great.

Try this. IN your case you should be lookin at the MSN folder

Hello --

I have a Windows 98 computer with Outlook Express 5 that has messages. (File size too large for one disk if I were to copy all folders, so I would have to use several disks.)

I use a Windows ME computer with Outlook Express 6.

I want to bring the messges from the Windows 98 computer to the ME but have been unsuccessful.

I tried copying a folder at a time from OE5 and then "importing" it into OE6 by following the instructions on OE6 and accessing the data from the A drive (disk). This was unsuccessful.

How can I accomplish this task? Should I copy the entire OE folder (piecemeal) into my ME computer and then try importing from there? I'm lost.

Thank you for your assistance.

Have you tried moving the files from the disc to a folder and then importing to OE from there?
