Internet Explorer redirects to different site

Q: Internet Explorer redirects to different site

When I type in a url or click search results, IE takes me to different site. My computer did have a virus and malware removed recently. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware finds nothing - SuperAntiSpyware finds nothing. I had avg at the time all this started happening. I have Mcafee on her now and it finds nothing.
I've tried to follow some of the advise to similar posts but I still have a problem.
Thanks-

Preferred Solution: Internet Explorer redirects to different site

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A few days ago we started hearing recorded voice advertisements coming from our computer speakers when there weren't any browsers open. Also, every time I try and click on a Google search results I'm redirected to a random page. This happens in IE and Firefox. I can make the redirects stop if "Javascript is disabled" but this is obviously a short term solution.

Internet searching reveals that many people are experiencing similar symptoms. However, I have yet to find a solution that works for my machine.

I have tried most of the posts on the internet to fix this problem--this is under IE6--"Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later." The problem just suddenly appeared. I'm running a Dell Inspiron B130 laptop with Win XP Home, Service Pack 3 installed, 1 gb ram and a 40 gb HDD. Had McAffee Internet Security Suite preinstalled but removed it via REVO Uninstaller and have only Windows firewall enabled and NO anti-virus. I did try downloading with Windows firewall disbaled and still no success. I can navigate to a site like Google Chrome download page but then when I click on the download button, the error message appears. Also can't download Microsoft or Windows updates from either site, although, again, I can get through the "checking" phase. I've run Malwarebytes, A-Squared, and IObit 360 and removed about 13 traces of malware ranging from low risk to high risk, defragged and cleaned the reg, all to no avail. I originally had IE7 installed, read about rolling back to IE6 and doing the typical repair sequences, again to no avail. Supposedly IE8 fixes this, but I can't download it, although I did try the stand-alone installer of 15 MB without checking the "get updates" box. It loaded and installed and shows up as IE8 but still had the same problems. Then did a system restore back to before the IE8 install, rolled back to IE6 again... Read more

Hi, perkinshershel, and welcome to the forums.
Have you performed any sort of autotuning disabling on your machine, or else 'tweaked' the TCP/IP settings?

FWIW, Vista doesn't do well with tweaked TCP/IP settings like XP does - it has an autotuning feature that dynamically changes the values for various settings n the TCP/IP stack as needed, thereby making the need for tweaked TCP/IP settings a thing of the past.

Just started using IE8, and getting the nag on many pages (while I am already on that page) saying IE cannot open this internet site....and if hit the return arrow to go back a page , and then reclick to the new page, it works. Whats up with that ? Am I missing some file or is this just another glitch ?
Didn't happen with IE7, and may just go back to it.

A:internet explorer cannot open the internet site...

Did you try other sites ? That is a quick check to see if the problem is your browser. And it would need to be a site that uses similar setup. So if the page that doesn;'t display has lots of javascript, go to another one that has lots of javascript, etc.

On one of my sites, sometimes one particular page wouldn't display. I had to re-edit it, upload, it works fine now. So it may not be your browser. It could be that site.

Good evening. Take a trip to this webpage for download links and instructions for running Combofix by sUBs: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix * When prompted to save Combofix, change the filename BEFORE saving it - any name will do, as long as it has .exe at the end. Please be aware that this tool may require the PC to be rebooted so close any programs you have open before you start. When CF has finished, it will produce a log - C:\ComboFix.txt - copy and paste Let me know how the PC is behaving.* There are two points to note from the instructions page:1) The Recovery Console. It is recommended that you install this as, in certain circumstances, it may be the difference between a successful repair and a reformat. If you are uncertain as to whether or not you already have the Recovery Console installed, simply run CF and it will prompt you if it does not detect it.CF will complete some, but not all, of it's removal tasks without the installation of the Console, so you are free to choose whether you want to complete this step, but it is in your interests to do so.2) Disabling your Anti-Virus.CF has been the victim of false-positive detections on occasion and a resident AV may incorrectly identify and delete part of the tool which won't do it much good. If you don't disable your AV, you may not get the results you hoped for!

Hi, my name is Jim and I have a computer problem.

I do a search in Google (using IE....Firefox seems to be working fine) and almost every link redirects to somewhere other than what the search results indicate it will go. Not every time, but most of the time. I've tried a few things (AVAST, Malwarebytes, etc) but nothing is finding it. Please help.

I read "Preparation Guide For Use Before Using Malware Removal Tools and Requesting Help", but when I started GMER I did not get the option to select all of the checkboxes that the guide indicated that I would. Most of them are grayed out.

The computer is running Windows 7 and the IE version is 8...but you could probably tell those things from the logs.
I run AVAST at all times and I'm surprised that it did not catch this problem.
Windows update is turned on and set to update automatically.
My son recently installed

I'll wait for further instructions before attempting to do anything else.

Thanks in advance.

Hello and Welcome to Bleeping Computer!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.

This is a computer at the place I work and it had some problems and blue screen of death. Finally got it all straightened out but now still have the google redirect BS. I've searched around and tried to run TDSSKiller but no matter what I try it will not run. It has slowed the computer down greatly and is laggy all the time. We don't use IE much but if you do it instantly redirects everytime you search for anything. Some helpful hints and info would be greatly appreciated!

I'm attaching all the files and info that have been asked for and run everything to my knowledge that is asked for in the Preparation Guide.

Hi there,

I've been suffering with this for a few months now and I just cant bare it anymore :( Basically my searches redirect to other websites, usually skooble.com. I've tried to install Adaware, Spybot, Malware bytes, HJT, ComboFix with no joy. The virus removes them all. I've even tried renaming the files and the .exe to .bat and .scr but it still removes them. When I open HJT I get as far as scanning then the virus deletes it half way through a scan.

If anybody could help me this would be greately appreciated. Im on IE 7 with Vista.

Thanks, Ross.

Are you able to boot into safe mode?

If so, try running the following scans in safe mode.

If you are unable to reach safe mode (reboot > tap F8 repeatedly on startup until an option menu appears...arrow up to safe mode)

If not...please go into your task manager > processes tab and list out all the running processes for me (ctrl +alt +del)

Please download DDS from either of these links

When done, two DDS.txt's will open.

A:Redirects in Internet Explorer etc

I thought I would update the description of difficulties I am having. Anti virus (AVG free) will not update. Microsoft updates cannot load. I have scanned with Malwarebytes, but problems persist. I was having difficulty updating Superantispyware (free), but eventually was able to manually, and ran a scan. Both Malwarebytes and Superantispyware detected things, but that has not cleared up the problems. I tried unsuccessfully to scan with Kaspersky, but it seems to stall midway through the scan. I should also mention that after I attempt to update AVG Internet Explorer will no longer load a web page and a restart is required. Another curious thing I noticed is that programs I have removed from startup using msconfig have reappeared at startup.
I look forward to your guidance when you can take a look at this for me.

Hello
My Internet Explorer is not loading one particular site but another browser is.  The site in question was once a part of Kaspersky's Smart Money list and is a bank.  It has been deleted and that software was recently upgraded to a newer product (Total Security).  I do not know if the a/v is the issue or not.  What I do know is that when I try to load the web page, the browser comes back VERY quickly and states that the address is wrong or my connection to the Internet is down.  Neither is true, of course.

I need some assistance to trouble shoot and try to find out a way to fix this.

System is a HP ENVY, Windows 8.1 x64, IE 11. All MS updates are current.
Thanks

A:internet explorer freezes on some site need help

Hi defkickjam

Did you build the system, or did someone build it for you? If someone built it for you, and you are experiencing freezes within two weeks, you may want to contact the builder.

If you built this yourself ---

1) Have a look in the EventViewer logs to see if any errors or warnings coincide with the system unresponsiveness. (EventViewer is in the Administrative Tools in Control Panel).
2) Thoroughly scan for malware -- if you have run the PC for any extended period without the firewall or antivirus enabled, malware could be causing the trouble.
3) Try using a different browser (Firefox is fairly good) & see if the problem exists using all browsers, or just one.
4) If you are currently logging into Vista as a "limited" user, try logging on as a user with administrative rights.
5) Have you changed any of the UAC settings recently? If so, try moving them back to their default settings. A security message might be trying to display, & Vista is hanging while waiting for a reply.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

I don't want to run IE6 on my computer or both versions of IE... Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

A:Internet Explorer 6 Test Site

Do you have a spare computer that you could install IE 6 on and open the website using that. Even better create a virtual machine on your computer then install Windows XP evaluation on it and open the site using your virtual machine.

Microsoft have a free tool to make and run virtual machines called Microsoft Virtual PC.

At first I could get to MSN via internet explorer then I could not.
I can get to most internet but many pages won't load including microsoft, windows update, sony, etc.

Any Ideas why this has occurred?
Ideas to correct. I turned off Windows firewall because I use Norton's.

Welcome to TSG

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads Save the text that will open (report.txt) to your desktop.
1) Go to Start > Control Panel >Network Connections. Right click your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and left click on Properties.
* Make a note of the settings before you change them just in case you need to put them back how they were.
Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says Obtain DNS servers automatically. Click OK twice.

2) Go to Start > Run, enter CMD and click OK.
At the Dos Prompt Screen, type in cd\ and then press <ENTER>.
Now type in ipconfig /flushdns and then press <ENTER>. (notice the space after ipconfig)
Close the command prompt window.

In your next reply, please include a fresh Hijackthis log and report.txt. Thanks

I have had this problem for awhile now, I have no clue where it came from although I do know the google redirects started happening after I got hit with one of those fake antivirus programs (I removed it the trojan).

Internet Explorer has 2 processes running in my task manager and sometimes they can take up to 60% of my CPU, they also open up pages sometimes ads lately just Google pages. It's extremely frustrating especially when I'm playing a game and it starts lagging up because my CPU is being worked so much.

I've run different recommended programs, such as Windows Defender, Hijack This, and KillBox.

None worked and I'll post the Hijack This log since you guys know what you are doing.

A:Internet Explorer Redirects or Jumps

Hi and welcome to the Security Forum.

Apologies for any delay in replying, but we have been rather busy lately, and, of course, all our helpers are volunteers.

You may wish to Subscribe to this thread (Thread Tools > Subscribe to this thread) so that you are notified when you receive a reply.

Please read these instructions carefully and then print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the fix. You should not have any open browsers or live internet connections when you are following the procedures below.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout or use this alternate location.

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, HijackThis will launch (if it doesn't, please launch it manually). Please click Scan, and check the following items:

Hello,

I apparently have either a virus or piece of spyware that is redirecting my internet searches. When I click on a link in Google, I am often, although not always, redirected to various sites. Typically, these sites are ad/marketing sites. I currently use Symantec Endpoint, which has not detected any issues, as well as Spybot Search and Destroy. Is there anyway to find and remove this spyware without simply resinstalling windows?

Thank you

My internet explorer 6 is messed up. When I go to a website I have to hit stop before the webpage is done loading. If I dont it will redirect me to a website Ive never visited. It also sets that website as my homepage in my internet options. No matter how many times I change my homepage it always happens. I dont understand what is going on. If someone could help me thanks.

A:Internet Explorer redirects without me clicking anything

You need to download a good Spyware and Trojan Removal program.

Spybot Search and Destroy:
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=spybotsda

SpySweeper:
http://www.webroot.com/wb/products/spysweeper/index.php
This will also protect your home page from being hijacked.

Ad-Aware:
http://www.lavasoft.de/

With any of the above three programs, just like with Anti-Virus software, should have the latest updates installed before doing a scan.

CWShredder:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/CWShredder.exe

KazaaBeGone
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/kazaabegone.zip

Programs that can help prevent getting infected:

Spyware Blaster

Spyware Guard

I have Avast antivirus installed and have run a full scan, there was a file picked up which i deleted. (sorry cant remember the filename)
I also have Spy Sweeper installed and having run a scan with that it only picked up a load of adware cookies.

Yesterday on my Windows XP computer, I got infected with XP Security 2012 Antivirus. I removed it (I think) by running FixNCR.reg, RKill and Malware Bytes as described here.Today when I launch IE, about 20 seconds after the homepage comes up, pop-ups browser windows start appearing that are going to various shady looking sites with alert boxes, etc. Usually about this time, the computer becomes very very sluggish. Checking Task Manager, the CPU is up to 100% and the process that is getting it up that high is svchost. If I end the task, then the computer becomes responsive again (i.e. CPU goes down) and the popups I believe even stop appearing. It appears the popups do not show up when using Firefox.Following instructions in this Bleeping Computer forum post, I ran OTL with the Custom Scan options. Following the instructions in this forum post, I ran DDS. Below I'm pasting the results of DDS -- maybe a rootkit infection? And I'm not sure if I can attach files here, so am posting links to my other results. Good evening. Download aswMBR.exe from here and save it to your Desktop. Double click the tool to run it. Click the Scan button to, well, start the scan - obvious really! Once the scan reports "Scan finished successfully", which takes less than a minute on my system, click Save log. On my system it offers to save it to the Desktop, which may or may not be it's default behaviour, but it's as handy a place as any. You'll also see a file called MBR.dat appear as well - this is a backup that it created, just in case it's needed. Keep it handy for now.I'd like the contents of aswMBR.txt in your next reply, if you'd be so kind.
