Change Notification Area Icon Size (Larger)

Q: Change Notification Area Icon Size (Larger)

Hi All,
I'm using my ASUS T100TA Transformer Book to type this message, it's got a 10.1" screen on it, as I'm getting older now..my vision isn't what it used to be. I've already changed the size of the icon's on the taskbar, so I could see them better..is there any way to make the notification area icon's larger as well ? I already have the free Classic Shell software installed on my tablet, but I didn't see any option in that software to change the notification area icon size.
Thanks,
David

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just got a new laptop with Win7 professional about two weeks ago.

All of a sudden, this morning, the network notification icon for the network switched from the wireless-five bars icon to the wired icon with a big red X through it (because I am not connected via wired). When I mouse over the icon it still shows my wireless network name and that I have Internet Access.

I don't know how or why the icon changed, but I would like to change it back to the one showing the wireless bars. I've searched around and can't find anything on how to do that.

Can anyone help with this, please? Thanks!

I would like to make that area dark like my taskbar, to see the icons properly, but I could not find any way.

Any advice will be appreciated.

I have an onboard ethernet adapter, and it is not plugged into a LAN. When I boot I get a network icon with a slash through it saying that a cable is not plugged into the adapter. I know this. I am using Win XP pro. I right click on the task bar go to properties, then click the customize button under notification area, then I choose Always Hide under that local area connection icon. However, when I reboot it is back in the notication area and it's property is Hide When Inactive. How can I prevent this icon from appearing in my notification area every time I boot?

Hello Romerqazwsx,

It depends on if you use OneDrive or not.

If not, then you could just disable OneDrive integration in Windows 8.1 to completely remove OneDrive.
OneDrive Integration in Windows 8.1 - Enable or Disable
If you do, then you could set OneDrive Sync Engine Host to "Hide icon and notifications" to not see it's icon in the notification area.

This laptop has been running vista since 2009 and has had no

I see that msseces.exe is running in task manager.

Any idea why the icon is missing?

Hi,

I wonder if anyone has a fix for a small yet very annoying problem. In the notification area of xp - we have the option to hide icons - but one continues to return regardless of how many times it is set to 'always hide' - namely the local area connection icon. As I do not use this, I want it to stop coming back.

I have been into network connections properties and unchecked 'notify when limited or no connectivity and also show icon in notification area - yet still, this icon returns.

Does anyone know of a fix for this - a registry hack perhaps - i'm comfortable changing registry settings if that's the route to take.

I know this is a very small issue, but seriously, it is one that is annoying the life out of me!

Hope someone has an idea. Thanks in anticipation.

I have an unknown icon in the notification area on my windows Vista Computer. When I hoover the mouse over the icon it states, "New updates are available". After installing this update on my computer it became infected with a virus and screwed up my MSE virus protection. I have both computers set for automatic updates. When did viruse start showing up in the notication area pretending to be Microsoft Updates? I would like to know where I could go in my Vista Computer to delete this icon. Since I have my computers set for automatic updates they should not be showing up in the notification area. Thanks for any help/

Hi all

Just recently a new icon appeared in the notification area and I can't get rid of it or even find out what it is. If you hover over the icon, there is no pop up message saying what it is. Left and right click don't do anything at all. I've looked in the customise icons section but it is just listed as "<no title>".

The icon looks like two figures in front of a small window, with the windows shield at the front. I've tried to attach a screen shot of it. It's the second one from the left.

It appears shortly after starting up the laptop and then won't go.

I've got an ACER Aspire 5735, running Vista Home Basic.

Is there a way to identify the items in the notification area?

Many thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I am using a program called Roboform Manager. It is a password manager. It works just fine on Windows 8. The issue happening is I did a search for Roboform and there is an icon which say's Roboform Taskibar. I select it and it puts a Roboform icon on the taskbar. That needs to be there in order for Roboform to work properly.

After awhile it dissapears and the software does not complete all of it's functions. I have to go through the same process again for it to work properly.

In Windows 7 I was able to put this icon both on the Startup and allow it to start up from MSCONFIG. Now, I do not see Startup any longer and when I go to MSCONFIG startup tab, it does not show what is automatically starting up.

Any suggestions would surely be appreciated.

Computer specs are below my main post, but I just have one small issue:

I have an Asus Motherboard that has an EPU-6 Engine (EPU = Energy Processing Unit, all it does is maximize energy usage on the mobo). It comes with a small app that puts itself in the Notification Area so that you can change between energy profiles easily.

I like the app, but I don't want it shown there all the time. I already tried the "Hide Inactive Icons" option, and also tried to hide it manually by selecting "Hide" from the drop down menu in the "Custom..." options.

The problem is that it hides the icon, but when I reboot, all those settings are undone. Is there a way to fix that?

Hello iLawCDN, and welcome to Vista Forums.

These types of icons are always active off and on, so as you figured out the "Hide Inactive Icons" option will never work on them for long. These type of programs will usually always get reset at startup to show the icon. You might check in the program's settings to see if there may be an option to remove the icon from the notification area, or some other custom setting it may let you adjust to help.

A glitch has arisen during boot. Running XP Pro 3, fully patched, the boot process has slowed considerably as if Windows is looking for something missing or some file it needs is damaged. The manifestation of the problem is in the Icon Notification area e.g. containing the clock. Hide inactive icons is not on. Nonetheless several Icons do not now appear. E.g. that for Eset Nod32, for Comodo, for True Crypt etc. Oddly some do appear, as they should, e.g. Spyware Doctor, the network icons, Sandboxie, an HP Printer Icon and EPU-6 Engine. All of the actual programs cited from the antivirus & firewall to the Engine seem to have started ok during boot as evidenced by using task manager and identifying the related processes as being ok and running. The issue is that they do not show in the Icon Notification area. Another anomaly: I looked to ensure that I had not turned on Hide Inactive Icons on the Task Bar and Start Menu Screen. I clicked it out of interest and while scrolling the Customize Screen the icons associated with various programs are wrong.
Thus ? Where might I look to identify the problem

Is it possible somehow to modify the vertical spacing

I set my taskbar height bigger than the default,
so my icons are placed into more rows:

If I place the taskbar to the left or right side of the screen,

So what this depends on?
Is it a thing that can be modified by editing msstyles,

New to Windows 7, like it a lot, but I have one thing that is driving me batty.

On the taskbar, in the notification area, I have many of the standard Windows system icons, volume, power settings, wifi, hidden icons, etc. When I try to access the options in those popup notifications. the notification disappears so quickly that I don't even have time to get my cursor on it. Maybe one in five tries I can get on it before it folds, but for practical purposes trying to use those icons is hopeless. It seems like the 'puter or the OS is just too fast.

I found one crackbrain suggestion to take out the battery (I have a laptop) and to press the power button a few times, and them replace battery and boot. Naturally, that solution didn't work, but I tried it anyway. There is also a suggestion about using the Ease of Use to set a time for notifications.... that doesn't do it. The notification area doesn't play by those rules. 5 seconds? I can't get 1/5 of a second.

I found a few instances of people having the same problem, but no solutions. Anyone have an idea how to solve this? Thanks.

I use a Windows XP SP2 based laptop to exclusively stream multimedia content between my laptop and my HD TV using the IOGEAR GUWAVKIT4 1080p computer to HD display kit. Until recently, I have only been problem free and satisfied.

All the driver and application software (current) has been installed and the wireless connection is established. An application called SGFXConfig (Viewspan) is used to establish the parameters of the connection between the transmitter and receiver. It is critical for the operation of this hardware combination. When this application is started, whether automatically during Windows startup (default) or manually, it by default minimizes to the notification area of the taskbar where the user clicks it to access the application.

What has started happening lately, is as the application minimizes, it disappears. It is no where to be found in the notification area. I can see it swoosh down to the area, and a bubble shows up saying something to the extent of "Click here for settings." But there is no icon. Hide unused icons option is unchecked, so all icons should show. In task manager, the process shows as active.

So, how can I ensure the icon is kept accessible in the notification area, or what option might be available to prevent it from going to the taskbar all together. (Don't really understand why this application needs only be accessed by the notification area?)

Thank you in advance to all those that may have some direction ... Read more

Going into "Turn system icons on / off" - both Power & Location are greyed out - and can not be activated.

Any ideas / suggestions? - I have tried all the regular Windows 7 / 8 fixes - but no luck. I DO have a battery icon in the logon screen - but that is it. I have had this issue since I first downloaded the first preview builds.

This is my machine stats according to System info:

A:Battery and Location Icon in Notification Area missing - Win 10 Pro.

Any suggestions people? Google gives me nothing useful for Windows 10. And the registry looks different from Windows 7/8/8.1 so the old regedits won't work...

Good morning people!
I have an issue I would like some help with. Every time I reboot my computer, a Windows Explorer icon with a yellow padlock appears in the notification area. When I click on it, it disappears and Windows Explorer opens. It remains gone until the computer is restarted. It first appeared about 4 months ago and I believe it was after some Windows security updates. It isn't causing a problem, I just want to be rid of it. It's annoying! Anyone have a solution?

I like to enable the Guest Account on my Windows 7 computer so that my family can also use my PC for simple web surfing.

One thing that I have noticed in Windows 7 is that when in the guest account no network icon appears in the notification area (aka system tray) to tell you the status of the network connection. This is particularly annoying for me as our wireless network connection can be flaky at times (I blame the neighbours!) and it is good to be able to see the status.

Does anyone know how to enable the network status icon in the guest account?

Thanks,

Broc

actually i dont know in which category i should post this threat. so i posted it in general category.

i have installed Windows 8 on my notebook few days back. I didnt paid much attention in the starting but now it gives me trouble when my battery status is not being shown on the notification area on the taskbar. Is there any solution?

A:Battery icon not showing up in taskbar notification area.

Yep, right click on the Taskbar, Properties, and you should see Notification area. Click on Customize... It brings up the Control Panel and you should see blue text saying Turn system icons on or off. Click that. You should see the battery icon and be able to change that to on.
