Wireless fast only after using ethernet...

Q: Wireless fast only after using ethernet...

Hello all-

I am at my family's vacation home. For several years we have stuck to using dial-up here, part of the whole isolation thing you know, but recently decided to upgrade to the most basic DSL. I set up the connection and connected the modem (Lynx L-220) to a wireless-b router (Linksys BEFW11S4) and everything was working great for about, oh, maybe an hour. It started getting unbearably slow, worse than dial-up. So I connected to the router with an ethernet cable and it's fine, most of the time. I then disconnected the ethernet and surfed wirelessly, and it was also fine. So the wireless only would work properly if I had just used the ethernet. ?????????? That's odd.......

I tried pinging a few sites on ethernet and wireless to see what happened. I opened Firefox, tried loading a page (of course it wouldn't) and then typed ping www.google.com in command prompt. It timed out a few times, then get a reply and, low and behold, the page suddenly started loading. Now I'm really confused. The internet works sometimes, the wireless works sometimes, and the ethernet works sometimes. ?????

I'm certainly planning to call tech support, but as that is a big thing to attempt, I thought I'd post here first and see if there is anyone out there who perhaps can help me.

Edit: I have tried pinging and loading pages only connected to the modem as well. It still doesn't work properly. I guess it's not the routers problem, maybe it's the modems? Perhaps I should ask my ISP for another modem.

Preferred Solution: Wireless fast only after using ethernet...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Can you tell me just what the SIS 900 Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter does and is it onboard the mobo or is it like a card setup idea? When would you have it disabled or enabled? If it was disabled would it make a difference when trying to connect to the internet using dial up connection?

I've been using direct ethernet connection for the past 2 months with no problems. Online gaming. Several days ago, ethernet speeds dropped below 1 mbps upload and same for download. I tried a different cable, updating ethernet drivers, reseting modem. Nothing working.
Network was set up by landlord - using google wifi which shouldn't affect me and a tp-link TL-SG105.
Wifi speeds are fine. Noticed the problem when downloading lastest BF5 patch.
Any suggestions?

I ordered DSL form Sprint and do not have a NIC card so I ordered a usb to fast ethernet adapter. When I plugged it into my usb, there was smoke, I'm pretty sure from the USB not the adapter, this is the type of usb that connects via jumper to the motherboard, and now my printer does not work which is also connected to the USB. So I'm pretty sure I fried the USB.

MY questions are,
Did I hurt the motherboard or is there some protection in the usb?
I only had 2 slots, so I would like a better usb, I do have open slots to install other type (whatever you call the slot), my next question, is what type usb would be better, the one that attaches via jumper to the mother board or what?

I need to call sprint and tell them what happened, any suggestions, did their adapter possibly do this? should I ask them to pay for a new usb? free one month service? or what. Can I test this usb adapter or should I heve them send me a new one?

Or should I go with a NIC card?

I'm hoping to make the jump from dial up to DSL internet and am wondering if this "SiS 900 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter" is the NIC that is required to connect my comp to the DSL modem? Also, how can I tell if it is working properly without actually being connected (I don't want to purchase the service if I need to get new comp parts first)? Under device manager it says "this device is working properly", should this be enough reassurance to go ahead and order the DSL modem?
Just as an aside .... whats a "RAS Async Adapter"?

A:DSL and SiS 900 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter ?

It seems like you are good to go from what you have mentioned..... as long as you go to device manager like you mentioned, and it tells you that the device is working properly, your all set...

Have fun with your DSL..... once you get it, you never go back.

Thanks for the birthday greeting. I have a problem with trying to connect my linksys router to my computer. My pc is win98SE with a usb port connected to my cable modem. I can use my laptop if I disconnect the connection to the pc or use my pc on the internet if I disconnect the router connection but I can't use both at the same time. Am I clear? Help. Does anyone know if Windows XP supports this PCI Card?

I searched the Windows Catalog and couldn't find any info on it.

I use this to network to my roomate's computer to use a cable modem connection.

I am upgrading from Win98SE to XP Home and would like to know if I will need a new driver or anything. I went to Network Everywhere's site and they just have one driver for download and no info on compatibility with XP.

Does anyone know where I could find out if this PCI card will still work?

Thank you.

A:Network Everywhere Fast Ethernet Adapter

It's a pretty old card. Since they have no drivers, unless the drivers were included with XP, you're probably out of luck. New NIC's with drivers cost about $10 and up, so this isn't a big loss. :) I'd stick it into an XP machine and see if the O/S recognizes it, a lot of network drivers come standard with XP, I rarely have to install the manufacturer's drivers.

File sharing programs are the source of a lot of anguish. I suspect adware and or spyware has invaded your system via Limewire.

Download, install, update and scan your system with an up-to-date antivirus, Windows Defender - free from Microsoft, AdAware - free from download.com, Spybot, Search and Destroy - free from Download.com.

If those don't clear your problem, run Hijack This - free from download.com; but, don't make any changes with it until you have posted the HJT log here.

Okay, so I bought this sucker at walmart, along with the required "ethernet cable", like the electronics weirdo told me I needed. So, I'm just dumb dumb dumb about these sorts of things. ;_; Um... The computer I'm on right now has DSL, wonderful wonderful DSL. My computer, however, does not. We are wanting to share the DSL, as sharing is caring says Barney. So, I don't see the proper hole on my computer, and we want to stick the cable in his thingie and my thingie, but we don't know what to do. Where on his thingie do I stick the cable? Seems all the holes are filled already. As for my computer, it doesn't have a hole big enough for the "ethernet cable" thingie. What am I missing or probably need? I'll love forever anyone who can help me. TANKOO!!!!!!!! :-* ::gives out luv and happiness to the helpful peoples::

I get great WiFi speeds.

When I connect Ethernet directly Modem -> Desktop, I get the speeds I expect.

When I connect Modem -> Router -> Desktop from any of the 4 ports on the Router, I get 1/4 speeds.

I've had this router before and assumed the ports were bad so I bought another one thinking that the odds of that happening again were nil.

But I'm having the same issues with the new Router.

It's not 4 bad ports (and it probably wasn't the first time either.)

It's not the Modem.

It's not the cable.

It's not the Ethernet port on the Desktop.

So I'm stumped here and would appreciate any help you could offer.

I'm running Windows 10 with latest updates.

My Wireless Router is the TP-Link Archer C7 AC1750 Dual Band.

My Ethernet port on the Desktop is Intel 82579 Gigabit Network Connection.

My Modem is Arris SB6141 and is Gigabit Compatible.

I simply ran quick setup and configured my 2.4 and 5.0 Wifi.

I didn't mess with NAT or QOS.

Hi, i recently got the apple airport base station extreme. I used it to network two computers over ethernet, then hooked up an external hard drive directly to the base station. Speeds were dissapointing.

However I have seen network storage that have gigabit ethernet ports, and my new motherboard has a gigabit ethernet port.

How fast would data transfer be from an external hard drive/network storage container with a gigabit ethernet cable?

Is it faster than esata? I heard that in reality even though its a gigabit ethernet cable, when it comes to transferring data it only transfers at USB 2.0 speeds. Is this true?

I'm helping my friend fix up his comp, but he lost the drivers to his ethernet port. He did a clean install of his computer without really talking to me, so all drivers are lost. We installed windows 7 for his main OS, but it dosnt seem to support this driver natively.

He had a 3com 3C920B-EMB integrated fast ethernet controller for the last driver, but finding it now seems to be impossible. If anyone knows anything specific on how i could get the drivers again, or how if theres an updated driver that would work for the same card thatd be great. Im pretty sure the ethernet port is built on the motherboard, its an old hp computer, before they were really reliable IMO. He does not have any of the driver discs or anything, bad with computers =\

I'm trying to figure out why I'm getting a slow connection on my wireless.

I realize that certain things come into play such as cordless phones, placement of the router, signal strength, firmware & drivers, different channels, etc. However, there are no cordless phones near the router. The router is right on top of the computer so there is no obstruction of the signal and the signal strength is 100%. As well, I've updated all drivers & firmware to the latest versions. I've also tried all available channels on the router which made little to no difference.

With wifi:

With ethernet:

It seems the wireless peaks at a certain speed and won't go beyond that. I'm using a dlink wireless G network card & linksys wireless N router and then onboard NIC for ethernet. They are mismatched but I don't think this is the cause. I know that wireless is slower but I wouldn't think by this much. This seems excessive.

Anyone have some insight on the finicky wireless?

A:Fast ethernet, slow wifi... I'm confused.

That does seem excessive, I normally get basically the same speed wired or wireless from my 20/5 connection, and this machine has 802.11g built-in.
I guess I'd have to try updating the wireless drivers first. and also try the machine on a different wireless network to see if this is a failure in your specific environment or a general issue with the machine and wireless speeds.

But when I inserted this Compaq NC3121 Fast Ethernet NIC, windows detect it as Ethernet controller and says I should click on the notification icon to run the setup, when I click on the notification icon, it shows up the network setup wizard which i go through all the process like setting up a small home or office network..It searches and then successfully complete the wizard.
But in the LAN connection properties, I see the status as: Automatic private Address which is, subnet Mask: 255.255.0 and defaulty gateway is blank.Speed is 100.0Mbps.
Under the properties I have DHCP enabled and TCP/IP filtering also checked and thats the same settings on all computers at the enterprise.
Now what i want to do is, I want to be able to get an automatic ip in the range of 192.168.1.X since all the other computers here are in that same ip range and can browse.
But with this it says LAN connected but I cannot access browser

Thank you very much to “Pedroguy”, “JohnWill” , & “Mojo1121” for educating me with the threads on this subject with the Realtek RTL8101 Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC NDIS 6.0 driver. Had these three not gone from the Valley to the Mountain with various solutions to help find an answer for the lady trying to get her computer to work, I would have been lost of just what to do with this new computer “that should not have had a problem”. They’re advice didn’t help me fix the problem, but what it did was give me guidance to follow solutionary steps to diagnose the internet problem and save time by reading what did and did not work.

Here is what happened to me…..I purchased a Toshiba Satellite L355 Celeron CPU 2.20GHz laptop with Vista Home Basic 6.0 version from Wal-Mart in late August for $300 on sale. Hi Frankie777,I read through your topic here and noticed that you never replied to RichieUK's last post. It looks like he had your computer cleaned up. I don't see any signs of infection in this log either.I also read your topic started Sept. 10 where you mentioned that you removed your network driver and then reinstalled it. If that did not cure the problem, then it is almost certainly hardware related. Your network adapter is built into the motherboard and it may have been disabled in the BIOS. There are other possibilities as well.If you still need help I suggest you post a new topic in the BC Hardware Forum and describe in as much detail as possible the steps you have already taken.Dave

My realtek rtl 8102e/rtl 8103e family pci-e fast ethernet nic was not functioning because the driver was incorrect. I down loaded the required driver and tried updating in device manager without success. I uninstalled the realtek rtl 8102e/rtl 8103e family pci-e fast ethernet nic but when I rebooted it automatically loaded the old driver.

I tried again today and this time I went into device manager, right clicked the realtek rtl 8102e/rtl 8103e family pci-e fast ethernet nic and from the drop down menu selected Install Driver Software a route I had never tried before. It gave me the option to manually select the driver and to my surprise installed it.

It appears the functionality of driver update in device manager is temperamental at times but the Install Driver Software route could sort any driver installation problems. I decided to pass this info on as I had 167 views on my original thread and no one came up with this alternative.

I come in complete frustration with my computer situation.  I have a feeling I messed up from the start
and this might be something that can't be fixed.  In a nutshell, my notebook Windows 8 system crashed, it
just would not boot starting "out of the blue."  I didn't make a recovery disc (bad) and its out of
warranty.  So I thought Vista would be an easy install over it, not knowing that there are now hardware
issues with "older" operating systems and the new hardware.  I was able to install Vista and SP1 and SP2
on it, but I'm getting the dreaded "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an
error while attempting to install it.   Realtek RTL8101E Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0).
"This device cannot start.  (Code 10)"  I've seen this addressed on forums but I can't get any solutions
to work.  I have downloaded the latest Realtek driver.  I also tried a tip which others seemed to make
work which was to download the latest drivers from Realtek, and the Diagnostic, and from those files,
move the .inf files to a new location and point the driver updater to that location.  That didn't work.
So I'm wondering if Vista is just incompatible with this, and I will have no choice but to go back to Win
8?  I honestly hope not.... Read more

The card seems to have installed, I have also found the CD and updated the drivers. I then went through the network connections, and set up a network connection for a cable connection thats always on No password needed. I had it notify me if conneceted or not connected.

It says that its connected, however I cant access the internet? I threw on my belkin wireless adapter, and connected no problems, The rj-45 cable works with a different network card. But for some reason it does not for this card?

I have got a Fufitsu Siemens Amilo Li 1818 laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

I can connect to the internet using the ethernet cable; however when i try and connect wireless, i get the following error message: -

Install wireless networking hardware and verify that the correct drivers are loaded.

I have gone onto the Fujitsu driver download site and contacted Fujitsu myself and I can't find the correct drivers to download or upgraded.

Is there a solution for this problem?

I also want to know because i intend to buy a Windows 7 installation DVD. When i've checked the Windows 7 upgade checker, it also says my drivers are not compatible.
Many Thanks.

So i recently erased almost everything on my computer? But some things did not erase like Windows media player and my songs on it, but i noticed my computer had to sound. I have been trying to figure out why and i was in the control panel when i clicked Network setup wizard and it said i did not have Realtek RTL8139/810X FAMILY FAST ETHERNET NIC. When i was looking on google i came across info that said something about Realtk 87 or something like that and it said to install it for sound but it took to long to install and when it was done nothing happened. So can someone please help?

A:DoesRealtek RTL8139/810X FAMILY FAST ETHERNET NIC have anthing to do with sound?

Realtek also makes sound cards (realtek 97). NIC stands network interface card, which basically gives you internet access.

I am planning to migrate my desktop pc from Windows XP to Windows 7 (both 32 bit).
The report of Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor suggests:
(!) Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC:

Before installation of Windows 7 download the actual driver for this NIC from the website of the manufactor (Realtek).

After installation of Windows 7 install the locally stored driver.
The web page  http://www.realtek.cz/realtek-driver.php?realtek=network  says: A driver for this NIC and Windows 7 is  not available for downloading.

What is the best migration path (if there are no driver)? Replacing this NIC in the pc tower by a more modern Fast Ethernet Adapter?
Thanks for your help in advance!

Hi, I currently connect to the internet through a wired ethernet port in the wall which connects to my university's network.

I want to make this wireless since I bought a new macbook and was wondering if this product would do it? http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B006PYGWG6

I don't know much about it but I was concerned because the Router Mode says 'cable connection only' and I'm not sure the connection is cable (is it ADSL?). Will I need anything else like a modem?

Any advice?
