Online Backup - Any Ideas?

Q: Online Backup - Any Ideas?

I run a small business and have my important data backed up in the same HDD. Further as there is always risk of hard drive failures, I wanted to keep my data securely somewhere offsite. One of my good clients recommended me this online backup service to backup my data safely and automatically. He claims that they use if for years and it works well for them but before I use this service I wanted to know your views/ comments on this.

Preferred Solution: Online Backup - Any Ideas?

I recommend trying the free service from Zip Cloud. It's currently our users' favorite backup and storage solution and will save you headaches down the line.

You can get it direct from this link http://goo.gl/rFYDxc. (This link will open the Zip Cloud homepage.)

A: Online Backup - Any Ideas?

That is an option. Another option is to have your computer backup to your computer at home. You can use a Dynamic DNS service to connect to whatever computer you wish. As a mater of fact you could have it backup to a external USB drive with the right type of router. http://no-ip.com is a free service. This way you have total control.Just one more dea to think about. You will need atleast DSL or cable on each end.

Against my better judgement I finally went with the 64 bit version of Windows 7 Professional after starting out with the 32 bit version. Amongst the applications that aren't compatible with 64 bit is Laplink Gold 11 (it worked OK with the 32 bit version). I have used it for years with XP to automatically back up folders of my choice from my computer to a mapped drive on one of my network computers daily at 4 AM. It only transfers files which are new or have been changed. At present I am just booting back into XP before I go to bed so Laplink can do its thing. But since I am trying to phase XP out I need a similar application that will work in 64 bit Windows 7. I have never run across any other application that will transfer files in this manner.
Does anyone have an idea of another app that will do this? Preferably something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
Thanks!

A:Backup ideas

I do not know of any application that you can buy, but Windows 7 has some very good back up appl. There is back up and restore which will back up your personal information. Pictures, documents etc. Then there is system restore, backs up the OS, then finally my favorite there is system image, which backs up the hard drive. Each one of these functions works on an incremental basis. You can make it an automatic back up by scheduling it for daily etc. I do not know if this is what you want, but because everyone is new to 7, I just want to be sure that you know about it.

You will like 7, but there is a learning curve from XP

Good luck and enjoy

Instead, put the Data somewhere else (another Partition ?) .. so that your System backups (images) aren't so large and full of redundant data.

Whilst going through TSG forums, I have now rather belatedly decided to try doing backups for my laptop, which I have had for 2 years! I am going to try the Acronis programme, which, after visiting their website, is going to charge me 49.99 € for it. However, I would like to know how I can create another partition to save my backup image, as you have mentioned here in your post? Just direct me to a website and I'll try to do it from there, so as not to bother you too much!

Thanks in advance,

Not sure the best place to put this post, sorry in advance if it needs to be moved.I was wondering if the following is a decent backup strategy. In order of precedence, the goal is to find the:(1)cheapest, (2)most reliable, (3)easiest-to-use, (4)automated backup method. Here's the deal:One computer on the network (once installed will have XPSP3, part of a domain) will have 2 hard drives, HDD-0 and HDD-1.Currently HDD-0 is a fresh unpartitioned/unformatted drive.* HDD-0 will have two 80GB primary partitions, Part#1 for XP and program files, Part#2 for backups.* HDD-1 is a 160GB drive for user files (that is, the main login's "My Documents" folder)I was thinking of having Acronis True Image on HDD-0/Part#1 running image(s)/scheduled-differential-backups of HDD-1 to HDD-0/Part#2.Alternatively I could use HDD-0/Part#1 for Acronis diff-backups of user files AND something like Faronics DeepFreeze for OS images, but that is probably overkill and might not fit on the backup partition with the rest of the user-file backups Ultimately I would love to have user files on a fileserver that has regular backups to tape, but that is not "in the cards" as they say. Am I missing some simple solution? Is there a basic loophole in my strategy? Any ideas welcome! Thanks!

Hello jhsmurrayI would say that it looks good. I would use a larger hard drive. My typical backup method is to have all my important files in 2 locations then just select them and copy them to an external leaving it over night.

Hi all!
I'm looking to see if anyone has any ideas about Cloud Backup as most of the reviews out there are based on what's cheap.  I'm really not looking for that, I'm looking for it to do what I need it to do.

My main machine (I have WAY too many computers) is a desktop Mac with a 2 TB hard drive.  I've been playing with computers since the early 90's so I have a decent amount of information that I keep and I like it that way.  Up until recently, I've used Carbonite and supposedly paid for their "full image".  That didn't work out so well for me and I'm starting to have the same issues again.  So I'll state that I need a system that will back up and KEEP backed up whatever file types *I* put in the backup as long as they remain on my computer.  I need all the normal things (music, pictures, documents) along with things like .exe files, fonts, user created system files, whatever, etc.  No malware or anything bad.  I also use a local External HDD for Time Machine backups.

Does anyone have any recommendations of companies that will back up what I need? Or am I just dreaming?

I recently lost a hard drive and thought I was backed up, only to discover that most of my work and all of my purchased programs, fonts, etc had been deleted from my back up. (and yes, I had specifically gone through and said specifically to back this file up.) I'm now working may way through a foot high stack of CDs and DVDs trying to see how muc... Read more

Well, hello there.....

I can recommend those, those are handsome and cute:
1. Dropbox.
2. Mozy.
3. Yandex.
I would pick Mozy. It's a UK company, and it is based on a cute 1-2 click interface for most of home users and young girls. If you would pay Mozy for a 2 Year Backup - you would pay in a prestiege firm and would get all high quality there. Their 24/7 phone support is always there as well, very handy - all and everything is there for your comfort and enjoyment and pleasure.

Mozy I recommend. Luck!

Unless you have an unusual disk controller, the free version should work fine. I have really important stuff that I want to backup, and I want the best ways for backing them up.

to HD's and DVD Discs.
Hardisk backup:

I have total of 3 HD's (500GB, 80GB, 20GB)

I want to back all of the files from those HD's to a new 1TB HD that I will buy.

so I want to know, what is the best way to backup these files to the new HD?
I tried before to manually move the files from and HD to another, but I always get errors like (cannot move protected file) something like that.
DVD Discs backup:
I also want to back them up to DVD discs for double backup.

so I want to know if there's a program that can do all the work, like writes 4.7 GB data on each DVD disc from my files on the HD.

without selecting each file manually.
Thanks allot!

A:Need good data backup ideas and tips...

You do realise that ~500GB of data needs 100 DVDs to back up and the writing would take some 10 hours?! And no, there is no program that can put a blank DVD in the drive after every 5 minutes.

Doubt it, and how long have you got anyway ? A typical PC has often got a minimum of 20Gb of data, whilst a typical 5Mbit download broadband only has 300Kbit upload, and to transfer 20Gb would take approximately 148 hours.

Better buy a cheap USB hard drive

Does anyone here use the Carbonite online backup service? I know someone who does, but I'm still a bit skeptical of trusting my "priceless" photos and stuff to some company's server.

I've been backing up on separate hard drives. But they're not big enough now, so I'm going to have to buy a bigger one. Is it better to go with an online service, and upload your files to their server, than mirror a partition to your local backup hard drive? What is the best online backup service out there?

My friend who uses Carbonite loves it (though he's never had to restore a wiped-out system with it). They charge $49.95 per year for unlimited space. Their software monitors your system to detect changed/added files and then uploads those, adding to the backup, but I wonder if that extra software being always active is going to slow down my system.

Soon, I'll no longer be using SOS Online Backup. I was grandfathered in with their unlimited plan, but just found out that all grandfathered unlimited accounts will now be required to switch to limited plans. This sucks, because the greatest feature of SOS is true archiving, which enables me to upload huge files such as BD rips, and then delete them from my PC while keeping them in the cloud, thereby freeing up space on my C drive. Do you guys know of any online backup services that offer unlimited and true archiving? What can you recommend? Thanks.

Hi:

Bummer.
That stinks.
I was looking at them to replace my current service (see below).
But it's too late to get a grandfathered unlimited account.
Bummer.

I compiled this list back in FEBRUARY.
Obviously, it is no longer entirely up to date on some details.
So I offer it "as is", as far as researching the other companies.
This is in addition to the usual vendors (Carbonite, Mozy) and the big "cloud" file-sharing services (Google Drive, OneDrive, SugarSync, etc.)

I have a feeling that an UNLIMITED account with TRUE ARCHIVING and adequate SECURITY will be EXPENSIVE and/or hard to find.

Let us know what you come up with,

Hi, I work for a very small company (3 people). We each have laptops and a desktop that we put all the shared files in. This desktop is left on 24/7. The whole desktop is backed up weekly using Acronis and daily differential is taken. The desktop is also used for daily work beside being our "file server". We have about 45gig of data on the desktop that need to be saved. Our problem is that sometimes when traveling, we have need for the data one the desktop. I've been thinking maybe we should use an online backup service that can also sync files or we can purchase a file server (most likely from Dell since that is what I use all my life). I will then have to be responsible for a file server which means I have to read up on what I have to do and what I have to be concern with.

Can anyone recommend a good online backup service? I've read the reviews but am not sure if I am reading sponsored sites or not. Is there an unbiased site you can recommend? Would we do better having our own server? Any suggestion is greatly appreciated

Not only am I having hell uninstalling that, but anything I right click on, on the desktop attempts to reinstall it, which I thought uninstalled already. This is akin to the worst virus I have ever had. Hopefully someone can help me on this.

A:Cannot uninstall StrongBox Online Backup

It seems that you installed a troublesome program.

I would try Revo Uninstaller first,

Howdies,

I know this has absolutely nothing to do with win7 but you guys rock so I thought I'd ask here first.

When I installed win7 my norton 360 sub had expired so instead of having to pay the extra to renew (70 squid) I decided to rebuy the download (40 squid). However my mother paid for it so it got registered in her name instead of mine and now I can't access my online back up so I can retrieve me iTunes folder (which I forgot to back up manually before upgrading). There is an option to change email address when U are on the log into norton account screen but then it tells you the product is registered to someone else so tough ... lol

Any ideas appreciated

Im not sure.
I think your best bet in this situation is Symantec themselves, and quite honestly, probably the only one who can help at this point..

I'm sure they can get something worked out for you.

I'm looking for a free online backup and recovery tool that will enable me to a) backup my files remotely AND b) recovery of my hard drive if it fails by storing the backup on my ISP. It should offer encryption / password protection at the remote site. One caveat: I'm not sure if there is a difference between a backup program that simply backs up your files and a recovery program that recovers your system. Maybe I need 2 separate programs? I have several names so far like Syncback, Parragon, and Clonezilla, but I'm not sure if they each do both these things. Thanks for letting me know.

I am paying for Mozy online backup now and have seen advertised some free online storage sites. I just wondered if any of you have a good free online site that you use. If I change I would prefer to get a review of someone who has used a site. Thanks,

A:Free Online Backup Storage

ADrive | 50GB Free Online Storage, Online Backup, Cloud Storage is good. Besides, if you have a Live Hotmail A/C, you can use Online Storage | Share Files with Shared Folders | Windows Live SkyDrive as well.

P.S.: I use Skydrive for most purposes.

How good is Comodo online backup? Anyone have experience with this program?
Is this unlimited storage?

Thanks for the help.

A:Comodo online backup questions

The Comodo backup program comes with no online storage as standard; if you want to backup online you'll need to have access to an FTP server or subscribe to the Comodo Online Storage service here.

Adrive offers 50gb of free online storage, but you have to pay if you want to connect via ftp. Fabrik offer 2gb free with no limitations; useful for backing up email and smaller documents.

Hey folks. I need a cloud backup service with great encryption. I also need to be able to backup from iOS devices as well as mac. And I need something affordable. I'm doing research but any suggestions will also be quite helpful!

Thanks!

A:Best online backup service for encryption?

It depends on how much data you are backing up for pricing but from what I have read this backup service has very good encryption though I have not used it personally. It will sync across multiple devices includinging Mac.

I have a program on my HP windows 7 laptop called "Activate Norton Online Backup"--when I try to remove it with add or remove program from Control Panel--it can't be removed. How do I get this program off my computer[/size]

A:Activate Norton Online Backup

Having done some digging on line for others with your same situation the general answer has been to use Revo Uninstaller.A free version is available at the above link. I have never used Revo myself but it is highly recommended by others here at BC.

So my very highly coveted HP Upline service was just discontinued today and I need to find another online backup service. I have two local backups, but I really just feel I need that offsite storage, just in case. Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about any other service you've tried? I've looked at the major ones like Mozy and Carbonite, and some others like SOS. SOS looks great, but it's $49.95 per 15GB per year, so that's just cost prohibitive. Mozy and Carbonite are 49.95-54.95 per year, unlimited GB. Just looking for some thoughts before I commit to something. Thanks!

Hello.
So I'm here as I've discovered something on my computer which seems to be not something I asked for and probably for that reason can't easily get rid of.
I'm also here as I've gone through the blog document "Remove Strongvault Online Backup Virus (uninstall guide)" but without the results I want.
I went through the uninstall guides steps 2x. A few weeks ago and yesterday. Why do I think that? I could swear that MB caught Strongvault as a PUP and "deleted/quarantined" it. And then on rerun, showed no other issues. FYI: I went an purchased MB PRO yesterday evening.
Either way, MB still does not pick it up as a PUP any longer, but the software is still invoking itself.

There are 2 registry keys which contain 27 entries for Strongvault. They are HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT & HKEY_CLASSES_MACHINE.
I have included the JRT.TXT file output from JRT.EXE and Hitmanpro.log output from HITMANPRO.EXE.

When attempting upload I get an error message: There was a problem uploading your file. Is there a way to ascertain the cause? Do you really want me to copy/paste the contents into this thread?? Any other files you want uploaded?

I'm sure there is much to discuss. Beer's on me.
Thanks, Larry

Lately, I'm using many different services (as long as they're safe) to store everything I can online to get my laptop and somehow my house, well lighter. I am quite sure I'm not the only one, but I'm curious to know what do you use to backup your data.
Here's my list of my favourite ones so far:
evernote but mostly as a bookmark tool
dropbox, googledrive and skydrive for photos, docs or work stuff
unioncy recenlty found, where I moved my products documentation like warranties and receipts

Any suggestion? Do you use something different I can try out?
