Green pop up text when changing volume settings

Q: Green pop up text when changing volume settings

I have a keyboard that has volume -/+ and mute settings that I use alot but its acting wierd recently. When I press any of the keys, at the bottom of the screen 'Master Volume' and a series of bars indicating the volume pop up in green text. Now, I'm getting the same Master Volume deal but except it appears at the top of the screen and a large rectangle around it apears too in a pink / purple colour covering everything behind it. How do you change how windows handles this if you can?

It also happens when I turn press num lock and caps lock (same pink rectangle).

I'm using windows XP and ive done NOTHING I think to change how it operates.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

RealPlayer 10.5

Ok, I used to have RealPlayer and all it's junk till I wised up
and removed it from my system over a year ago.

However, I recently installed the basic RealPlayer (that is...only allowing
the features that I needed for video/audio) in order to watch NASA TV
e.g. DEEP IMPACT and today's DISCOVERY launch.

My question is regarding why, when I mute or adjust the volume on
the RealPlayer, that it also does the same to the computer's Volume
Control (Speaker Icon in System Tray...Wave setting).

I had been viewing on the RealPlayer, muted the sound and then later
was wondering why I was not able to hear any of my videos, music, etc.
The thought occurred to me to check the Speaker Icon and, sure enough,
there was a check at Wave>>Mute.

Is there a setting I can check/uncheck that will allow RealPlayer and
Computer volume to be independent of one another?

Thank you,

Hi rrr1992 -

Welcome back to the Tech Support Forum!

If this problem just occurred within the last day or so, I suggest that you perform a System Restore - using a restore point from at least two days ago. There were 10 or so Windows Updates yesterday, and it is possible that one of them is the root cause here.

START; type rstrui.exe in the Start Search box; click on rstrui.exe or System Restore; go through the System Restore screens.

If this does help you, do not allow the Windows updates back in just yet. You will need to download and install them one-by-one to determine which, if any, is the cause here.

Please let me know of results.

Regards. . .

I'm using a backlit keyboard made by Sunbeam Tech on an HP pc running Windows XP Pro, and the keyboard has separate buttons to mute, increase, and decrease sound. The word 'volume' and blocks in bright green flash near the bottom of the screen whenever the backlight is on even if no sounds are being played. When I turn off the backlight feature, the flashing goes away, and when I turn the backlight on, the flashing green returns. I'd appreciate it if someone might know of someway I could eliminate the flashing green but still have the backlight on. Thank you.

I seem to have something on my computer which randomly changes words on web pages and emails into what appear to be green links. (underlined, with the text colour changed to green). Also I ran full scans of Norton and SpyKiller and they didn't catch it. Norton keeps telling me to update, but I have and the message doesn't go away. Any thoughts? Please keep it simple! Hello sevenforums! I have a problem with my computer i recently purchased. Here is my story.

This all started whenever I wanted to change my text size different by changing my DPI settings. What I did was right click, go to screen resolution, and clicked on "Make text and other items larger or smaller". From this I changed it to 100% from 125%. I noticed it had changed my font size to the 100%. It then made everything SUPER small when I changed my theme settings.

Whenever I right click and go into personalization settings, I do the usual customizing to my likings. Since I want to save the theme, I do so by naming it, blah. Now I want to use the blah theme by click on it, and I do so. Everything is fine and dandy until I right click my desktop to refresh(out of habit). This is the before and after of the font sizes.

My workaround was to set a custom DPI setting, log off like it prompts me to, then changing it back to 100%, again prompting to do so. It is so annoying to do so.

Help me! It is driving me crazy and I have no idea how to fix it. I cannot save a theme and change to it, otherwise it results in the small font. It affects all the fonts soon afterwards. Like google chrome will be fine until i exit and restart the program. Then a super small font follows.

A:green or blue screen error no text

Before fixing a Microsoft Microsoft Windows blue screen or blue screen of death error (BSoD) you must first identify what type of error it is. Since there are different types of blue screen errors.

Note: If you're getting a blue screen and then your computer immediately reboots without being able to read the text in the blue screen, follow the steps below. If you're unable to get into Windows to perform the steps below, boot the computer into Safe Mode.

1.From the desktop right-click on My Computer.
2.Click the Properties option.
3.In the System Properties window click the Advanced tab.
4.In Advanced click the Settings button under Startup and Recovery.
5.In the Startup and Recovery window uncheck the Automatically restart check box.
6.Click Ok.
Blue screen errors

Windows NT, 2000, XP, Vista, and later versions of Windows will have a blue screen error that's similar to the example shown below. Thankfully these error messages often contain more detailed information, and will contain information that can be more easily searched for and found. If you're not getting a blue screen error that looks like the below skip to the next Fatal exception section.

1.Identify the type of blue screen by locating a line containing all capital letters with underscores instead of spaces, such as the above example: BAD_POOL_HEADER. Write this information down. If you do not see anything written in all caps with underscores like this, skip this step.
2.Get either the STOP:... Read more

Hello. I have been battling green text and popups on google whenever I search for something. I've been on other forums trying to figure out what the heck is causing this. It's difficult to explain so I'll just try and give an example. On Yahoo's homepage they have a list of links (Autos, Finance, People Search, etc) and over the past few days some of these links have turned green and when I click on them they do not take me to a Yahoo page but some sort of "Sponsored Link." This green text/links began on only a few websites but now is popping up everywhere and keeps "spreading." I don't know what's causing this or how to get rid of it. Someone suggested it was Intellitxt or Ezula but none of the properties of these two programs match what's happening on my computer. We have a second computer which is completely normal. If someone could lend me a hand I would really appreciate it. I ran McAffee virus, Spybot, and Ad-aware but they haven't really come up with anything (other than the fact that I have much more spyware than I usually do and whenever I delete it, it comes back within the day). I also ran Hijack This and pasted the log into an online Analyze but it also showed nothing that was "nasty" or really troublesome. I hope I can resolve this soon.ThanksMy Hijack This Log:Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 2:18:58 PM, on 1/27/2006Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)Runn... How do I change my System Reserved and C Drives back to blue (primary volume)?

Hey there! A few days ago I changed my hdd because the last one got corrupted and had a lot of bad sectors so I installed a new windows 7 OS. Everything was smooth until the sound suddenly stopped. I wasn't doing anything in particular. I noticed the green bar on the volume control is moving but I had no sound. I plugged headphones in - same thing. Anyways it fixed with a reboot and I thought it was a one time bug. But it happened 4 times already and the only other thing that fixes it beside rebooting is uninstalling the sound device from the device manager and installing it again. What is causing this? I downloaded my Realtek drivers and I ran them with the setup.exe file and they are currently installed on my PC but they don't seem to do anything. These are pictures from the various things I wanted you to see that look normal:

imgur: the simple image sharer

What may be causing this and how can I fix it?

A:No audio but the green sound bar on the volume control is moving?

Welcome to the Windows 7 Forum.

The first thing I see is you do not have the correct sound driver installed. I don't know what your hardware is but what is listed is the "High Definition Audio Device" which is the Windows installed generic sound driver. You should install the correct driver from your PC vendor.

In addition I see the NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device and that has caused some problems in the past. Temporarily disable that in the Device Manager and see if that helps.

Please fill in the "My System Specs". It helps us to try and help you.

Ok so my new bfg nforce4 mobo is installed in my comp. I formated my partition and reinstalled xp. But I'm getting intermitent graphic issues. When I first boot up I get Short horizontal green lines running in vertical rows up and down the screen. Plus most dashes in my text with the occasional number or letter and space. Then windows starts and I get blue cuts horizontally across the screen. This doesn't happen ALL the time. It seems to occur when I install new software that is related to video. I installed a new game demo and it happend. It also happend when I installed the video drivers and a few other programs. It seems to be fixed when I pull out the video card and put it back in. Oh and after I installed the most recent program that caused this I was getting a no keyboard error for the first few reboots.

I have absolutely zero idea what this could be. The video card is new from BFG who sent it to me back when I thought my bad mobo was caused by my video card.

An update:

I checked my Device Manager and I've got a nice little "!" that says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" Dunno what the means exactly in relation to my problem, though maybe someone else does?

Another thing...I installed an old PCI card and the comp booted up fine no problems at all. But the card I'm trying to get to work is a PCI-E card so even though it sounds like it could be the card it could still also be something else right? I just recently RMA'd the video card even though it didn't need it (long story: my mobo was the problem, which is why I got a new one) and it took them over two months and 3 cards before they were able to mail me back the right formatted card, so I loath to send this one in again.

Yesterday I've gone back to a restore point from 2 days earlier.

The reason for that is that I clean installed the supposedly latest stable driver for my videocard.
I had 344.48 and went to 347.09
It was stable, but not more then what I was on and the FPS were around 15 lower.
I clean installed my old driver again, but for some reason I had the feeling it didn't perform as it did.

That made me restore to the point before updating the driver at all.

Everything ingame works fine again, but since the restore I have this weird problem whenever I open the explorer metro style.
An example is when browsing for an attachment from the Mail app or Internet Explorer (metro).

As following:

I did SFC scannow, scan/check disk, removed and reinstalled the mail app (which doesnt make a difference since its in Explorer).. I even did some fix it and troubleshooters...

Who knows how I can get rid of this?

I've been having a problem recently with my volume on my laptop, a HP M6-1125dx. I have noticed that slowly over the course of a few days I have to keep turning the volume up higher and higher to have the same volume come out of the speakers. I used to consistantly be able to keep my volume around 15, but now I''m having to turn it up to 40 or 50 after a few days. It goes back to normal after a restart though (even a 'soft' restart) and then blows out my ears because either I've forgotten to turn it down before restarting or windows did it to me automatically.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? I have no idea where I should start since I couldn't find info of anyone having a similar problem.

I logged on two days ago and FF could not connect - I had to go in and change the settings back to auto detect. My yahoo cannot connect and won't let me change it to do so. My Avira won't update and won't turn on to run at all. Malwarebytes won't update either. MY logs are posted below.. My computer blue screened the first time I ran the DDS - I saved the error if I need to post that too. I re-ran it and it run the second time.

I understand that Windows XP only allows a certain number of hardware changes before you have to reactivate it. Does anyone know if changing the hard drive volume id counts as a hardware change?

I am changing the hard drive volume id to run a certain application, and I am wondering if I might run into the problem of having to reactivate Windows XP because I keep changing my hard drive volume id. I am running Windows XP pro.

A:Xp and changing hd volume id

Does the hardware wizard appear each time you change the volume id? If not, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Even if it does, a call to microsoft should straighten it out.

I fdisk my HD on one of my laptops. I made a new partition and tried to put 98SE on it. but when win tries to format it "Error setup cannot install 98 on your computer. An error was detected while formatting you primary partition"
My volume label is in weird text. I found an old post with the same prob. but the link to fix it was bad. I think it was called zap. The link took me to an IBM page that was no good.
MMmmm now if I use fdisk I get "Invalid media type" it just stated this. scandisk just did the same thing.
HD Bad???
This is the bad link http://www.storage.ibm.com/techsup/hddtech/welcome.htm

Thank you,

A:volume label with weird text

How are you doing this? Did you boot from the CD, start setup from a floppy, or start it some other way?

I'd suggest downloading delpart, putting it on a 98 boot floppy, booting from the floppy, running delpart at the A: prompt and deleting all partitions, rebooting from the floppy and running fdisk to create a new partition, rebooting and formatting FAT32.

Then, start setup from a floppy again.

Startup floppy--->

If you question the drive, run scandisk from the floppy after the format and choose the full surface scan to see if it finds any bad sectors.

So when i play music on Spotify while playing a game, my volume randomly goes up and down, It only stops if i mute all of the sounds of the game, i've looked and looked in all the settings, changed the communications tab to "do nothing" and it still wants to change my volume, is there a specific guide someone can link me to? I would like to get this resovled.

A:Volume Randomly Changing.

I've been dealing with the same issue for a while. I'm not sure what sound card you are using but i'm using a built in Realtek High Definition sound card. Seems to be a ongoing problem.
The only thing that seemed to work for me or at least no problems for several days was to open up task manager and disable "RavBg64"
Like I said things seem to be working good for several days now and so far so good.
I would also see if you are running other programs that may be accessing your volume control. Skype?

Hi Guys,

This is my system:
QX6800, 2GB, Vista 32Bit Ultimate, Creative SoundBlaster Live! 32Bit.

Most of the times in windows media player (I have not tried any other music player) the volume of MP3 (no problem in videos or other audio formats) files keeps going up and down on a random basis. Anybody experienced this strange problem?

I have these codecs installed if it does matters:
1. Combined Community Codec Pack
2. AC3Filter

Thanks for any help!

A:Sound volume keeps changing by itself??

Just to rule out anything...please try a different media player such as winamp or foobar and let us know if you still get the problem.

Hi, can anyone help please?  When playing music on Spotify on my new Idea Centre desktop the volume randomly changes  - sometimes up, sometimes down.  i don't know if it's something to do with movement (it's a touch screen) or treaming.  it's really annoying.  I've turned off the audio communication tool  that reduces sound if it thinks you're on the phone.  Nothing is happening with the volume indicators. Any help gratefully received!

Please try scanning your system for any spyware / malware affecting the sound
You may also try
1 Right-click on the default volume icon on your taskbar, select "Sounds"  2. Browse to "Communications" tab  3. Select "Do Nothing"  4. Press ok  to check
Do give this a try and let us know
Hope This Helps

I have a weird text glitch in volume mixer and don't know why it happens. See attachment. The squares!
I'm talking about the square like character "[]" after the text "system sounds" and "foobar2000".

I am using X-FI sound card with recent drivers and have all the windows updates installed.
Un fortunately I did not find an explanation searching for it on google and on forums.
Anyone has an idea what causes this glitch?

A:Weird text glitch in volume mixer

You have apparently installed the Foobar 2000 media player. Uninstall it if you don't want or need it. I've seen this attached to some other downloaded programs and you have to uncheck a box or it will install.

Windows 7 64-bit
I can adjust the display so it's large enough to read everything but the text. For instance, now have it set at 150% of normal and the title of this post is large but what I'm typing now is so small it's barely readable. MUCH smaller than 10-point.

There is a way to customize the display, but anything more than 150% is so large it overflows my wide-screen monitor. Surely there must be a choice between way too large and way too small, but I can't find it.

A message on my screen now says to run TSG Sysinfo, for information helpful in solving this problem. Last time I downloaded something similar, here, I ended up with a $40 Uniblue program on my computer that I had to fight like crazy to stop invading my world. I never got my money back, either. It would help to know what "TSG Sysinfo" is, before I commit to running it.

Hi Can anyone help me? when I'm on Ebay and looking on a list of items i would like to check out. i would like to know how to change the colors of the sites you have looked at and the ones you have not. It's hard to tell what item or site I have looked at and which ones I have not.

A:changing color text

By default, Internet Explorer will change the color of links that have been clicked on. This behavior applies to all web sites. If you open Internet Explorer and click Tools, Internet Options (Or just Options), you should see a button labeled Colors. If you click that, you can customize what colors the links are before they're clicked on (unvisited) and after (visited).

In Microsoft Word 2003 I made a document with text boxes in it. I typed text into the boxes. I then changed the font of that text. When I was done I saved the document. When I opened the document again, the text had changed to another font. I tried deleting the text box, adding a text box again, typing the text in at the correct font to begin with, and saving the document. After I saved, closed, and reopened the document, the font had reverted back to another font again.

I have inherited a lot of song files (PowerPoint) that need updating to fit our situation (We have the Copyright license).

What I want to do is change all the type on all the files to one or two fonts; change the color to white and add shadow.

This is very easy to do "One slide at a time"-- but very tedious. Is there a way to change the whole file at once (or even batch a bunch of them)?

I have PowerPoint and Open Office Impress available to me (In MSWord, I could just "select all" and change the type throughout the whole document-- it seems like it should be possible to do the same in Power Point-- but I am not finding it).

Your insights would be greatly appreciated,

A:PowerPoint: Changing all the text at once

You should be able to select all the text from the outline pane on the left side of the screen. try clicking in there and doing a CTRL-A to select all the text in the pane.

Hey all, sometimes when I enter the TSG site my text size changes. One minute the text is the size I have it set to and then when I go to a different thread it will get larger. At times if I hit the refresh button it goes back to the right size and sometimes it doesnt. I ran ccleaner but it does not make any difference. I have tried firefox(3.6) in safe mode but no difference there. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this also. It is only the TSG site that this happens on.

A:Text size keeps changing

I have had this happen occasionally as well but have not come up with a solution yet.
