Q: LENOVO IdeaPad 100-15IBD Hard clicking noise while...

Hello All, I have bought a LENOVO IdeaPad 100-15IBD andd I have updated everything it is windows 10 and the Intel core i5 version. First booting up and shutting down went fine. Now when I try to shut it down now the screen turns black, but the power button keeps burning and every 5 seconds I hear two hard clicking noises and then it shuts down after 20 seconds. Can anybody help me and give me advice on how to stop it from making these noises? I already checked but there is nothing blocking my fan. Thank you in advance! Kind regards, Gary von Havel.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I was wondering if anyone has upgraded or swapped out their hdd for a solid state drive on the Ideapad 305 15IBD? My specific model number is 80NJ00F5UK, I have been able to find an mSata ssd drive which says its compatible with the 305 IBD, but not the exact model number above.  To be honest Im pretty happy with the performance of the 1TB hdd that i have but just want to confirm whether its possible or not to swap out for an ssd if I wanted to in the future.  The main reason would be to squeeze a bit more battery life, as its one area where the laptop is a bit weak. mSata SSDhttps://www.ipc-computer.eu/notebook-spareparts/lenovo/300-serie/ideapad-305-15ibd-80nj005j/hdd-12

Had the same problem. Tried to install Win7 in  hope of making the HDMI output project my screen on external monitor, but gave up as got the same error messages as you did. Then installed Win 8.1 and made the external screen work...for about 5 minutes. Then installed Win 10 but external screen still ot working, tried at least 4 different VGA drivers, updated BIOS, etc. My conclusion is that there are serious driver issues with this laptop, Win 7 do not even bother trying.  Try Win 8.1 or 10 and let me know if you can use HDMI to project screen ,and the driver version you use! Thanks

Hello All, I have a problem with my new Ideapad 100-15IBD that I received today. Wireless or Ethernet connection is horribly slow - I have 50Mb/s connection and laptop is using 4-5Mb/s max (just to mention even Chrome download takes about an hour with this connection speed/quality). I have it with W10, but also formatted and installed W7 to check, if maybe it's faulty Realtek drivers (I tried both from Lenovo Support website and Realtek ones). On both versions of Windows the problem occurs. I am now back to W10, so it's as fresh as it gets. I tried different settings of Network Card, tried looking through forums about similar problems, but can't find anything, so I was wondering if anyone, preferably Support Team, has any tips or ideas why it's like this. The Network adapters I see are:Bluetooth devices x2 (not important for me at this point I believe)Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller (tried meddling with this one, now working on default as it's fresh installation)Realted RTL8723BE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NICI of course got it from retail, it's brand new, so I do not see how it could be broken already (talking about network adapter), so I thought that it's maybe software problem? Also - I noticed it's working even worse on 802.11n only than mixed. Thanks for any tips,c. PS. Sorry for my English, I'm not native speaker (Polish).

Didn't realize the laptop was unplugged and went completely dead sitting there for a month. Went to plug in to power up and nothing. Thought maybe cat chewed on charger cable and tested it and was only pulling 4v vs the 20v it's supposed to but tried new charger that Lenovo sent and still nothing. I've heard battery could be un-chargeable if left to completely die and sit for a while but still don't get why laptop won't boot up when plugged in.  Am I dealing with something else internal in addition to a dead battery?

Also, when I open device manager, I do not have nVidia under Display adapters section, only Intel HD Graphics 5500. Anyone knows whats up here? I have seen many solutions that involve changing .inf files but I cant even see the nVidia so that does not work for me.

Alright so my fan noise problems was a little different from the last post, so when I first got the laptop I had Zero issues with fan noise, now after about one month of usage and a few updates what felt like all of a sudden, the fan would stay on constantly, and my estimated battery life dropped to 3.5 hrs max. It seemed to be after the bios update, I'm currently doing a factory restore, if it fails where do I move from here?

Hi guys, I just got my Lenovo ideapad 700 for about a week now. I've activated the dust removal option for a few days and the option never exist anymore in my Lenovo Companion app. I found out there are vibrating and loud stuttering and static coming from my laptop fan whenever I fire up some casual games such as Dota 2 and Counter Strike: Global Offensive. The fan will return to normal after a reboot or after cooling down for sometime. I have read older topics enough but haven't found a solution. Laptop is very quiet in idle mode but every time when I use browser (Firefox) and open a new tab the CPU fan starts spinning which is very annoying. I'm using Windows 10 and I have turned Windows Defender off. Also I flashed the latest BIOS (E5CN58WW) but so far nothing changed. Temps are around 35 while I post this but seems that SpeedFan can't control the fan. Only thing I noticed that when I open a new page / tab, CPU usage increases from 4 % to over 50 % depending on the page. Please, is there any solution for this?

Hi guys, this is my first post in these forums. Now, I searched a lot for a solution to my problem, but now I'm creating this thread.I got a Lenovo Ideapad Y500, and it worked really well for like a month, then I started hearing this really loud whirring noise and some vibration coming from the left side of the laptop, near the heat vents. I shut my laptop off and when I turned it backon It was gone. But now the noise is back and whenever I reboot my laptop is goes away but then it comes back after a while. Also, whenever I run the dust removal thingy in the Lenovo energy management app, It gets really loud then it goes away.I don't really feel lots of air coming out from the vent on the leftside of the laptop. I think it might be a fan problem but my laptop stays around 45-65 Celsius mostly. I don't know how hot it runs when I play games, though. Any help on this unnatural whirring sound that starts after a while is really appreciated.

I just recived a repacement laptop from Lenovo a few weeks ago. I now have a Ideapad 700-15ISK. I've made a video with the audio levels boosted for those who would like to hear below. If that doesn't work, here's the YouTube Video. I dont think its tied to the fan, but I can't really tell for sure. It is most noticably coming from the very right side of the computer (looking at it with the screen open, front view). From about 3 weeks ago, my Lenovo Y510p (GT 750M Sli, purchased in 2013) started to make this weird grinding/buzzing sound at random times on the CPU side of the fan. It was barely noticeable if I had headphones on at first, but starting from the second week the noise and vibration of it grew louder. After doing some research for possible fixes, I have tried the method openining Energy Management and running the Dust Removal feature to temporary solve the problem. However, that method only worked for about a week, and starting from the third week the buzzing remains very consistent even after I run Dust Removal several times. Does anyone here know what is the problem exactly? I know for other models, people have been able to solve the problem by updating their BIO driver provided by the website. But all Y510p users seen to have that problem early enough to just get a refund or send it back for exchange/repairment using their then still active warranty. I would like to know if there's any way that I can fix this without having to spend money for the fix when it is proven it is the company side issue since even fresh new purchases of the same model ran into the same exact problem within days.

Howdy

A few days ago the hard disk started to make a weird noise, when saving something or browsing a web page it began to make a clicking noise, in sorta regular intervals. Im pretty sure it is the hard disk and I believe is C (i have 2 internal hard discs, the other seems to be running ok) because this afternoon the comp restarted by itself while playing civilization IV (and winning urrrg) and I had to restarted like 7 times until I finally managed to enter Windows. During that Windows shows a black screen that say the system didnt started correctly the last time it ask to open Windows normally, using the last good configuration or enter safe mode. There is also a second counter which begin at 30 and after it finishes it choose the selected option (in case nobody press enter) but in the exact moment the click is heard on the HD, the counter stops, the comp stops responding and it has to be manually reseted.

So, is this a indicative of total HD failure? There is something to do or I absolutely must buy a new hard disk

Thnks 4 the help!

Hi,

I suppose from the topic name, you already know why im a bit worried.

I had a second hand hard drive put into my laptop, The Hard drive is a Samsung HM160HC.

The problem is that occasionally it will make a quiet clicking noise, not a typical click. It is very mechanical, and sounds very much like something is being flicked. I have had Hardware checks done on it from the Bios (not in windows) and the computer recognises it as fully functioning.

I have been advised that there shouldnt be anything to worry about. But Im here looking for a few other opinions.

Thankyou

Okay this girl I am talking to asked me to fix her laptop because it was supposedly infected with viruses and WOW that was an under statement. As I was doing this, every so often I would hear some sort of clicking noise. I am very familiar with the sound of a hard drive failing and I don't feel it is it but I kind of do. The thing is when I tap the small fan the noise normally stops. So question; what advice should I give this girl 1. It is fine it is just the fan. 2. Take it into somewhere and have it checked out.

P.S. I can't physically take it apart.

A:Clicking Noise? Hard Drive or Fan?

You usually do not need to disassemble much to remove the HDD. If you pull it out and either boot from a floppy or CD, or just go into Setup and play around a bit, it should get warm enough for the fans to kick in. If you still hear the noise, it's not the HDD. If not, download the HDD mfr. diags and run several passes.

My computer is making a ticking noise--like the one that is made when a key is stuck--and then freezes up. I wobbled each key to make sure it isn't in fact a stuck key. I tried to CtrlAtDel but that doesn't show or do anything. I am left no choice but to power down with the power button. When the computer reboots, the noise is gone and everything is back to normal. It has happened twice in the last hour. Any ideas? Did a Google search and hard drive dying came up. Not sure this is the sound those posts were describing though.

It's a strong possibility. Most drives that fail do it in the first few weeks. If it didn't make the noise before and now it does.....I would make an image to have ready in cased it fails. Make an image every two days and keep an eye on it. It could be something else, but it sure sounds like a bad drive to me.

Clicking noise from the hard drive sounds like it is failing or has failed. I hope you have backed up any important files you may have wanted. Chances are very slim for recovering files without paying an arm and leg. The price of hard drives are so cheap replacing one shouldn't be a problem.

So currently my computer cannot open (operating system not) and decided to check my external 1tb Toshiba, I just plugged it in and opened the computer, then it spun and lit up, and had clicking noises, then I decided to check again while writing this, and there were no clicking noises anymore, should I be worried? I just bought this February 12

A:External hard drives making clicking noise

There are two probable causes of the so-called "click of death" for external hard drives:

A. Inadequate power being supplied to the external HDD, this is most common in situations like where you have multiple devices (including the HDD) connected to a single USB hub for example.

B. Physical deterioration of the HDD resulting from either simple wear-and-tear or damage such as physical shock or trauma.

I would begin by downloading something like CrystalDiskInfo to read the SMART diagnostic info that your HDD provides. If anything there is bad (like reallocated sectors), then I highly suggest replacing the HDD at your earliest convenience.

If SMART comes out showing a clean bill of health, I would make sure adequate power is being supplied to the HDD. If adequate power is supplied, I would wait and see how the HDD fares; if the HDD is failing it will start giving off signs (more clicks, bad SMART readings, etc.).

And most importantly, backup your data! A good backup will save your day like you can't even imagine.

Howdy,

I've been having the occasional BSOD lately. Sometimes when I leave my computer idle, and once now when I was playing a video game (Element4l). Also, when I start up my computer, I get a hard drive clicking noise sometimes. This noise also happens occasionally when I'm using my computer. It's always one click. About 2 weeks ago, I cloned my main drive to my backup hard drive as my storage drive has a faster RPM. I asked for help on this forum and got great help:

2 Hard Drives, Win 7/ Linux, Sys Res Part. has System(screenshot inc.)

So ya, all my drives are in the right place with the right partitions where I want them now. I'm running windows 7 on my C: drive and I am not dual booting with Linux anymore ( cleaned up my bootloader though the console command bootrec.exe /fixmbr ). When I look at everything through my BIOS at the start, my C: drive, which is P0 (my D: is P1), does not show up, although it shows P0 in boot override. I've also done the run system repair 3 times fix that I found on this forum. Also, system repair does not detect my os ( C: ) when I boot from my Windows 7 installation cd for startup repair. Windows runs fine until the BSOD.

That said, I'm at a loss. I aware of the clicking noise being my hard drive possibly failing. Also, when I alook at my partitions through the eyes of a Linux Mint live cd, I see 2 loaders ( one on the sys res, and one on C: ). Here are the screenshots that I hope will help:

For the last few days, we've been hearing clicking noises, along with challenging reboots and restarts (sometimes it takes several tries) and blue screens with errors.
After doing a few searches here and elesewhere, I think it's the hard drive going.
Sometimes, after turning off the comp completely for a few hours, the clicking stops, only to start up again a while later.
I know I have to get this sorted ASAP as I don't want the comp to die and lose all my stuff, so can anyone give me simple step-by-step instructions as to how to back up the lot (if possible, free and reliable backup thingies) and then how to go about putting in another hard drive?

Hi lamradnane ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you have the machine number (check on the machine number from the sticker or check it from here ,just keep your serial number confidential) .  It would appear similar to this 80QQ00CQUK  .

Physical devices detected by the machine should show in the BIOS . Turning off the system and using the Novo key to power on would give Novo Menu that offers BIOS set up as this can also be verified within windows under device manager if recognized.

The parts lookup page would also be able to verify the devices /parts using the machine number or SN.

I received my laptop as a gift in August (bought the day that I received it) and immediately noticed a clicking noise when I started it up. I thought it might stop, but it continued intermittently. I brought up the issue in the HP Chat support, and the laptop was collected and sent for repair. The Drive was replaced, yet the clicking/rattling noise is still there, even louder than before. It also beeps randomly. I have barely got a chance to use it at all because of this, and when I do it is extremely irritating to have to listen to the constant clicking. It is totally unlike even my 6-year-old laptop, which has a fan that can get loud at times, but I have never experienced a problem like this. So far it seems everyone says a hard drive making a clicking noise is a sign that it is failing - I am concerned I have been given a defective replacement and that the issue will only get worse. To make things even more difficult, when I tried to start a HP Support chat session again, after entering the details including serial number etc, I was told that this product is no longer serviced by HP. What can I do about this?Hope someone can help me figure out what next steps to take!Emma

Hello there! I recently had a booting issue with my ideapad and after I fixed it, it was low on power so I plugged it up. I hadn't, however, noticed that it wasn't charging. After a few minutes it died. Now when I plug it up nothing happens. The charging led light won't even come on. I've tried using the novo button, but nothing happened. Please help - Drew
