Finding deleted program

Q: Finding deleted program

I have Corel Suite 8 on my Acer laptop and am running Windows XP media centre edition. I may have accidentally deleted the Wordperfect 8 program. Is there any way I can get it back without buying another copy and reinstalling it.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi langfordj!!

Can you verify further the issue? Did you deleted or uninstalled the program? Or did you mean you deleted the icons?

If you mentioning that you actually uninstall the programs, you may try system restore as an options, but there is no guarantee you can get the program again. You might want to give it a try and see.

Strangely your editor does not allow me to enter a title Using Firefox.

Hello again,

No matter which undelete programme I try, not one of them will ever find a deleted file.

I copy a file to a directory on C: or D:, delete it and then empty the Recycle Bin. Whatever application I care to use, the file, which is very unlikely to have been overwritten, can not be found. No trace of it ever.

The undelete applications are on drive Z: so that running the undeleter should have no effect on drive C: or D: where the deletion has been done.

Is there something wrong with my discs, or is it the security app ? It worked in XP !

Is there any free software online that is able to retrieve emails permanently deleted from an AOL account about 3 weeks ago? The email was also printed out that day in case if that helps in locating the lost email in some random sector of the hard drive.
Thanks!

A:Finding deleted emails

If the email was stored on the AOL server, and not downloaded in Outlook or Outlook express, you have zero chance of retrival, as it is stored on a server that you have no control over and would certainly be already written over.

If it did create a temporary spool file in memory while printing out, that will have been immediately deleted when the print operation finished.

If you actually downloaded it in Outlook or similar, then deleted it there is every liklihood it is in your email delected folder. But that is speculation as we don't know how it was accessed.

Hi, I was just wondering if there is a command prompt or anything else you can do to find out when a file was deleted.

I lost a bunch of downloaded files on the 24 of november this year and I was not on the computer that day, I did however have the computer with me and I believe someone I know deleted these files purposely.

I would obviously like to recover but that is not a big deal, however I am much more interested in finding out if the files were deleted on this day or when they were deleted.

If there is a log of when files deleted or something I can do to find out it would be of great help.

Thanks in advance.

A:Finding when a file was deleted

If they are still in the recycle bin then they should have a date of deletion marked .. you should be able to right click and select the column if it's not shown.

If the files have been deleted from the recycle bin then there are some pieces of software that can recover those files .. sometimes but not always the recovery software will notify you of the date and time deleted. It really depends upon the recovery software being used

My computer is currently being upgraded to Windows XP at work and I had soem file son there back in 2005 that I deleted. These were personal files. Will the techs uncover these files while they upload all my current material on my compyuter now to the server only to bring it back down from the server on a new harddrive containing XP. If so what can I do to prevent these files from being seen? Like I said it has been almost two years since i had these files on my computer and have long been gone. I know that some files can be recovered but does this take a lotof time? ALso I store tons of info on my computer so is it likely that...the old material was written over?

Thanks,

A:Finding Deleted files 2 years old

If you deleted them, and emptied the recycle bin, it is doubful they will find them.
They would have to be deliberately looking for, and trying to recover, deleted files.
When upgrading the OS, that is not usually done.

Looking through my Document File "Alpha Address List"I accidently replaced the file with a Blank File of the same name . When I tried to open it there was nothing in there. I looked in the Recycle bin there were no files in there at all. Where had it gone ? How could I find it and restore it?

I believe I made a grave error next as I went into the Recovery Programme and picked a recovery point which was 4 or 5 days back from the day my "Alpha Address List" file went missing. When the restore had been completed I looked at the "Alpha Address File" and just a blank copy of that was there.

I realise now that all the recovery programme did was restore the Windows System Files and not the Office 10 personal document "doc" files.

It may be a lost cause now but is there any way I can retrieve the "Alpha Address List" file back .

Hello,

My computer is setup to use a 120gb SSD for my OS (Windows 7 ultimate 64bit) and a 2Tb hard drive for my program files, user folders etc. I use junction points to link the program files and user files from C:\ to D:\. This normally works like a charm however I recently updated iTunes and it deleted my C:\Program Files (x86) junction point and created a Program Files (x86) folder on the C:\ drive, this completely roots my system as all my Program Files (x86) are stored on my D:\ drive and now my computer can't find them since the junction point has been deleted. How can it do this and most importantly any reason as to why it's doing this? It's an easy fix on my end as all I have to do is put back in my windows installation disk boot from it and remake the junction point but it's a real pain to do it when it shouldn't happen in the first place.

Also after remaking the Junction point I decided to uninstall iTunes and it once again deleted my junction point while uninstalling.

(Note: My Program Files, and User, junction points have worked as normal and have not been deleted just my Program Files (x86) junction point. I am creating my junction points using the command mklink "C:\Program Files (x86)" "D:\Program Files (x86)" /J)

Does anyone have any ideas to why this is happening? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Nairda.

Running Windows 7 Pro, 64bit.

We have a package of scripts and programs that comprise a custom application for OpenOffice 3.2 (do not want to upgrade OO at this point). We must support our package on Win XP, Vista and 7.

A bunch of our scripts start up OpenOffice by running the command:
C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 3\program\soffice.exe (with arguments).

Works fine on XP. Fails on Win7 because the OO program installs itself into Program Files (x86). Even if I change properties of the installer file, in the Compatibility tab, to Win XP SP3, AND tell the installer to put it in C:\Program Files, Windows 7 still installs it into Program Files (x86).

We would LIKE to have the same script work on both flavors of Windows. I know we can modify our scripts to branch on which Windows, and choose two different paths to soffice.exe, but that's messy.

I can't solve it by creating a shortcut in Program Files, to the program in Program Files (x86); that's not allowed.

Is there some solution in Windows 7 to find the program no matter which place it lives? Like, a semi-intelligent environment variable for ProgramFiles that looks in one place, then the other? Ie.:
"C:\%ProgramFiles%\OpenOffice.org 3\program\soffice.exe

Maybe I'm missing some easy solution, but so far I don't see it.

A:Finding a program in Program Files (x86)

The reason the programs plonk themselves in the Program Files (x86) must be because they are 32-bit applications.

By default, Windows 7 64-Bit installs 32-bit applications in the Program Files (x86) folder, whilst 64-bit applications reside in the Program Files folder.

Hello,

I apparently deleted some files, though precisely when is an open question (likely within the last 3 months). I have already run a few file recovery programs to no avail. The files are mostly scientific articles, so they are replaceable. The catch is I need to know which files that were deleted.

I know that Windows is renowned for the amount of data it logs about system activity. I was hoping that there is an access log buried somewhere that I could search for the folder names and find a list of the specific files that were deleted. Also, any recommendations on the program(s) that would be helpful in doing this. I am running Windows 7 Professional x64 on a Dell Latitude D830.

Thank you so much for any help you can offer

A:The possibility of finding a file access log detailing deleted files.

Windows does not log that kind of thing unless file system auditing is enabled and the appropriate options set. This is NOT enabled by default. This auditing would consume a large amount of disk space in quite a short period of time unless it is very selective.

The real solution to this kind of problem is to maintain backups of all important files. There are a variety of ways that data can be lost and not all are preventable and not all recoverable. You need to be prepared when (not if) something happens.

In my Ult. Vistax64, Windows update hangs. I tried numerous fixes from Microsoft (MrFixIt) and others. nothing seems to fix it, including a full system image restore from a month ago.

System Restore also seems to have had its restore points deleted as there are only two recent saved restore points/images.

And I have noticed that after booting up, and perhaps at other times, my CPU usage goes to 100%. Both the Windows update service is running (wuauserv) - see pic - and when I stop it, CPU usage gets better.

what is a bit concerning is that my McAfee virus is also taking up CPU usage as if transfer activity over the internet is heavy. No viruses are found, either via real-time scanning or if I run a manual scan on the hard drives.

I have also run an sfc /scannow , there are a lot of PendingRenames, which seem to be from the sfc command fixing errors, as well as a lot of "duplicate ownership...", which is sort of scary to see when I have a problem with my computer.

Besides the failure of the windows Update, the SFC /scannow keeps finding corrupt files and repairing them, and it does not seem just limited to a few that "are erroneously marked as corrupt" and not a problem, according to research into these problems.
The computer seems to be working fine, but not being able to install updates is a problem, and the high CPU usage is suspicious. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

I don't think that you would have to go as far as installing any Keyloggers or Snapshot programs to delve into the history of another users activities, just as long as you are the Administrative user on the machine. Unless she has a very firm grasp on the storage and structure of the operating system, simply deleting internet history, Cookies, cache and so on, does not mean that all info is lost. It's still there, you just have to find it.

You might just eliminate the possibility alltogether by setting her up with her own user account that restricts the activities you don't want her to partake in.

If you are worried about a particular site, you can set it to the restricted zone in your browsers settings, simple and effective. As the administrator you can password protect content that you feel is unacceptable, that is one main reason that user accounts even exist.

Hope this helps,

nos

Hi Thessler, welcome to the Seven Forums.

That .exe is so called file extension. Windows inherited the extension system from its predessor MS-DOS, where a filename had a maximum 8 character long name and a three character extension, separated with a dot from the name. Although Windows can use filenames and extensions up to 255 characters long, the lenght of the extensions normally used is still that 3 characters from DOS era.

File extension tells Windows what kind of file it is. For instance, if the file extension is .txt, Windows knows it's a text file and opens it (by default) with Notepad, and when Windows sees a file has an .xls extension, it knows it is a spreadsheet which normally opens with Excel (or similar) spreadsheet program.

Extension .exe means it is a program that can be run as it is, without need to use another program to open it. If you have chosen to hide extensions of known filetypes (default setting in Windows), Windows shows only the filenames, not the extensions. If you have got instructions to download a program from our forums and then right click the .exe, it's safe to assume the file itself is an .exe (executable). Right click it and see what happens.

If you are interested to see the extensions, not only the file names, you can change the default setting from Control Panel > Folder Options. Click the View tab, and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types:

There are a bunch of NLE's that allow you to do some fun things with text and lower thirds---Alot depends upon your budget and how much time you want to take to learn them. At the lower end, I would recommend Adobe Premiere Elements, or Sony's entry level Vegas product. Both are under a 100 dollars. Elements might be better with the titling then Vegas------

If you want to go up in price, then both companies make a pro-level NLE's that will do everything but make the beds.

Or does anyone know another way I could do this?? just trying to make lift easier for the guys at work.

A:Help finding a program to record a bat file

Welcome to Seven Forums Nomad01. You need a "macro" of sorts. You can do what you want with Autohotkey . You'd need to write a script, or modify an existing script. You'd need to know the particulars of what functions you do now manually. Shouldn't be a problem as you do these functions

There is a macro recorder of sorts

Macro recorder - Scripts - AutoHotkey Community

They have a dedicated forum as well

AutoHotkey Community - share scripts and functions, get answers to your programming questions

Otherwise, you'd want to research Macro recorders. There are free ones, but the best are pay I believe. A Guy

hi and welcome to vistax64 forums
all files have 2 parts to their name. the first part is the files name (like my email) and the second paart is called an extension. In your case the extension is "DOC". doc represents a document file and cna be opened by several programs. Its usual opener (called an application) is microsoft word.

You do need to download it if you want to save it which I suspect you would. save it in a place where you can find it.\

One other thing about email. be sure you have a working anti virus application to make sure you dont catch something in an email.

Hope this helps

Ken

Hi
I have recently built a windows 8.1 pc with a gaming MSI motherboard- 970 Gaming, as well as a gtx970- it came with a set of drivers and utilities like killer Ethernet and sound blaster studio 2 and I set this up first time fine- when windows 7 was default on the pc but unregistered.
So when I bought windows 8 I can no longer find the program/ control panel I can find the help section for the program but not the program itself and I have no idea where to find it- I HATE WINDOWS 8!
Can anyone help, I would deeply appreciate it
Thanks

Ok guys, i am trying to get some traffic going through my website. So i though the best way to start is with my community.

So, what i am going to do is make up about 24000 flayers and i got some kids lined up that i am going to pay to put theses flayers on car windshields outside of big stores like walmart and so on.

But knowing me i want to take it to the next level, what i am looking for is a program that i can put on my computer that will allow me to send pre recorded automated voice calls to everyone in my town, pretty much explaining what service my site provides.

i am looking for something i can put a big list of phone numbers in and have it dile each number and call them..

can you help me figure something out.

A:Need Help Finding a Automated Calling Program

Umm....I think you're neighbors are going to be super annoyed with you. Plus you might want to consider the headaches that come with this since you have now relegated yourself into a telemarketer and will now have to abide by the rules set up by the Do Not Call List.

I just got a Lenovo Yoga 710. I like the computer except for the stupid keyboard layout. The right shift key is way too far away to be useful. Especially since I'm in law school and our exams are timed and typed, I don't have time to fiddle around with this badly placed shift key. I want to remap the page up key to be a shift key and the right shift key to be the page up key. I've looked into three different remapping programs so far and none of them are going to work for me. Sharpkeys does not allow you to switch the keys. So I would either have to lose my shift or my page up key. I want to keep both of them. Keytweak does not work with Windows 10 computers. Since my computer is running Windows 10, it will not work. Keymapper should have worked, but for some reason it's not registering with my keyboard. I could use some help with this please. Otherwise I'm going to have to take this laptop back because it is just too frustrating to be any use to me. Thanks.

A:I need help finding a key remapping program for my Yoga 710

Read the first part of this where it covers mapping keys in the registry.  I suggest you keep good notes on what you change in case you ever want to revert.

Can someone tell me how to find a programs IP address so it cannot "call home". I tried blocking it with a firewall, but it still manages to "call home". For example, when using TuneUP Utilities 2010.

Thanks guys!

A:Finding a program's IP address to block

Use a firewall like Comodo or whatever you like. When a program tries to call home, firewall should detect the outbound connection and notify you if you want to allow or block it.
