A485 Resolution bug in 18th Oct GPU drivers

Q: A485 Resolution bug in 18th Oct GPU drivers

The new official graphics drivers for the A485 (7/11) exhibit the same resolution bug as unofficial sideloaded drivers. This is not seen in the previous graphics driver (6/8) and needs to be fixed. The problem is that it locks the resolution of certain games to 1080p, as this becomes the only recognisable resolution for the display - as seen by Custom Resolution Utility showing only 1080p at 60hz and 48hz. Adding 1280x720, as it is the only playable resolution for most games anyway, results in a blackscreen when using it.This entirely breaks games like Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age, causing a white screen crash, and locks 1080p to at least Distance and Far Cry 3 from my testing.

A:Screen Resolution Or Drivers?

That model came with both ati and nvidia graphics options apparently.
Which one do you have?
It's a widescreen so I doubt 1024x768 is the real native resolution as well.
It's actually 1280 x 800

Odds are you need to track down updated graphics drivers though (for both display and system stability). If you could provide just a little more information on the graphics card I'm sure someone could point you to it.

Hey guys, recently i bought a dell 2407 used, this thing is messed up it doesnt always turn on. i don't know whats wrong with it. I did figure out a trick though, if i plug in my 2005fwp boot my computer, then unplug the dvi and hook in the 2407wfp Dvi, it will turn on! So i found 2407wfp vista drivers and force install. But it only picks up 1920x1080(should be x1200), i tried the Nvidia panel for customize resolution, but it keeps popping up an error messaging saving the monitor does not support that resolution.

So i guess what im trying to ask is this a hardware issue or software? or is it both??!? And is there another way to install some generic monitor driver that will support [email protected]

A:Dell 2407 Drivers/resolution issue

Sounds like a hardware problem but you can ttry a program called power strip to to try and set the resolution you want PowerStrip - Download
You will ned to installl it in compatibility mode XP for your 32 bit windows seven Compatibility Mode
You really need to first find out the soecs on the monitir your trying to use and ewhy it won't startup onit's own. this tells me something is seriously wrong with something.

In your manual http://dlcdnas.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/...19_a8r-mvp.pdf it says it only supports 1920x1200 While using X850 Crossfire Editon @65 hertz

You should also try updating your bios to the latest and under "other" are your chipset drivers you may want to install them as well, their all for windows XP http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us
with the Radeon X200 chipset and no support since XP I think your going to find it difficult to get windows Seven running smoothly. JMO. Fabe

Since installing Vista 64-bit I'm having trouble with nvidia drivers for it. I have a Geforce 8800GTS 512mb PCI-E graphics card which I have used fine for the last few months.

I was using Vista 32-bit those last few months, but now I've made the switch to Vista 64-bit for the reasons that I get it free through my university and also to see if there is a performance boost.

Since using Vista 64-bit and installing the latest and older Nvidia drivers, when on my monitor's native resolution 1920x1080, it doesnt fill the whole screen, there is about an inch on everyside where the screen is just black, with the desktop sitting inside this, obviously I cannot use my monitor like this as 1920x1080 is small enough as it is, without it being reduced to a size of about a 19" screen.

I then switched to Omega drivers to see if this would fix it and it does, I could run 1920x1080 on the monitor perfectly. But when playing some games, colours would be different and anti-aliasing would be working etc. In the case of GTAIV, there weren't actually any textures at all.

Therefore I would like to use the Nvidia drivers but I can't run the resolution 1920x1080 because of my problem, and I really hate using 1680x1050 because all text is a bit blurry.

I have tried using the Nvidia Control Panel to adjust the scaling, if I apply any of the 4 scaling options, none of them make any different whatsoever, there is still an inch of nothing around the disp... Read more

Ok, first off, I'm new here so hi everyone. Seems like a great forum for technical help and discussion, and looks pretty

I've googled, and searched this forum for a fix to my problem but haven't found one so far, so hopfully you guys can help.

A few months ago I got a second hand monitor from a friend, to replace my CRT because I was getting headaches when working. It was cheap (?10) because it's fairly outdated and had a dead pixel, but it was worth it to get rid of the headaches. At the time I was running Vista x86 and I plugged the monitor in and its maximum selectable resolution was only 1024x768, rather than the 1280x1024 that it was meant to be. I couldn't find a fix for this, but managed to work around this by updating the drivers and selecting the "Generic 1280x1024 Flat Screen" in the list of drivers in Vista. This brought the correct resolutions to the list and the issue was solved.

I then had the same issue in Windows XP (x86) and used the same work around, which again fixed the issues. However last week I done an upgrade and purchased Vista x64 and am having the same issue once again. But this time, selecting the drivers in the list does not update the resolutions I can select and I am stuck with 1024x768, which isn't a good enough resolution for the 3D Modeling and Texture working I am trying to do. Deselecting the tick box "Hide modes this monitor cannot display" simply updates the refresh rate box, but not the resolution box oddl... Read more

Basically, my Asus G50vt-X5's GPU died, so I am obviously unable to install Nvidia drivers. My GPU is broken, I'm over it, but my problem is the resolution. I can only use 1280x720, but my monitor supports up to 1366x768. This makes this image look really blurry and ugly.

Is there any way I can disable the scaling so the resolution is 1280x720, but just with the black space around it, so it stops looking blurry?

A:Disabling resolution stretching /without/ Nvidia drivers?

ummm... can you change the resolution from Win 7's own control panel?

Right click in an empty area of the desktop, then select Screen Resolution to open it.

What GPU are you using at the moment? I assume the one integrated in the motherboard, what motherboard you have? It should need drivers to work correctly.

Hello all,

I just installed Vista (64 bit edition) and its working well for the most part. The only problem I have is with my display. I have an Acer AL1916W monitor which is 19" widescreen and its best resolution (looks poor on all other resolutions) is 1440 x 900 (16:10). My graphics card is an ATI X1600.

Straight after installing Vista, I could easily change it to the above resolution and everything would be just fine. However, when I update the video drivers either through Windows Update or through the latest Catalyst drivers on the AMD/ATI site, it messes up the resolutions available to me and I can no longer use 1440 x 900.

As soon as I uninstall the driver I can select 1440 x 900 again. I don't understand why the driver 'deletes' that resolution.

By the way, Windows XP (32 bit) works just fine at the 1440 x 900 resolution.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me here. I'm tearing my hair out trying to get this working!

Cheers, Chili.

What does the Device Manager say? Start - search 'Device Manager' - Display Adapters. If the AMD HD 6800 is not listed here (what I think you meant by 'it does not show up as existing on my system'), that's step number one. Right-click 'Display Adapters' and select 'Search for hardware changes'. Windows should recognize the GPU at this point (may require restart after installation). Then go to the AMD site and try to download the latest drivers for your GPU. You might try their auto-detect software available here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/auto_detect.aspx. Once the discrete graphics card is recognized you should easily be able to change the screen resolution by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting 'Screen Resolution'.

My client has recently bought four A485s instead of their normal E480 laptops to give AMD another go. I'm really starting to regret it as all four seem to be suffering from Wi-Fi drop outs. I work remotely from client so what I normally do is carry out the intial Windows configuration onsite and then install SimpleHelp remote support - I then carry out the rest of the configuration remotely using SimpleHelp. It works well and once I establish a remote sesssion, it rarely (like never) drops. I've currently got two E480s and two A485 left on a desk at the office on the same Wi-Fi. I've been going through a very similar configuration process with all four - add to Azure AD, install Office 2016, set-up printers etc. The E480's are responding perfectly (no drops) but the A485's keep stopping responding to the remote support session and occasionally SimpleHelp reports the connection has dropped - it then re-connects a few seconds later and reports "N drops". So far the E480s have not dropped at all (I've been connected about an hour) but the A485's have racked up about 15 drops between themselves. They don't do this all the time. You can got for 10/15 minutes when they respond perfectly. My client's internet connection is excellent - 1Gbps backbone with AC Wi-Fi so we're getting >100Mbps both ways, often >200Mbps. I've checked the system event log and there are some e... After updating to the latest BIOS, I have noticed a decrease in performance on the order of about 10%. It seems that this BIOS update has allowed the CPU to exhibit more stable performance and CPU throttling behavior under constant load, e.g. as seen in the updates to this article: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-A485-Ryzen-5-Pro-Laptop-Review.334528.0.html but at the cost of some overall performance. Adding to this, after having owned a ThinkPad A485 with a Ryzen 5 2500u and one with a Ryzen 7 2700u, it seems as though Lenovo's power management is aggressively holding back the Vega 10 GPU in the Ryzen 7 2700u, as opposed to the Vega 8 GPU in the Ryzen 5 2500u. Previously, in CineBench R15 (https://www.maxon.net/en/products/cinebench/) benchmarks, my A485 with the 2500u would achieve ~37fps during testing, while hardware monitoring software would show that the GPU was achieving a clock speed of about 800mhz. With my new A485 that has the Vega 10 GPU, it is impossible to achieve more than ~25fps under the same test and testing conditions and the hardware monitoring software shows that the GPU can not reach a clock speed higher than what I believe to be the near-base clock of 400mhz. With both laptops, this testing was performed with the Windows po... Read more

I just updated the Bios on my machine hoping for the performance to start going further to becoming at least on par with the E485/E585, but to my horror, it now throttles even worse! What used to be a stable 2.5Ghz on the CPU during a Cinebench run on high performance mode, resulting in an underwhelming but acceptable 530-560cb is now 2.0Ghz! This barely puts it in the 450-480cb range, which is almost as bad as quiet mode on the previous bios. This is completely unacceptable. If the E485/E585 can get 600cb consistently, so can the A485. The cooling isn't the problem, just stop limitting the laptop and let it get a little louder/hotter so we can get the performance we have been advertised! 70 degrees is _not_ a suitable temp limit in high performance mode. Please try and fix this. This could be the best Ryzen laptop around, but right now, you're just a fool for buying this over the E485. Here's a look at my findings https://imgur.com/a/qXJS2Bs

Can we please have confirmation that the A485 will be supported for BIOS updates via Linux Vendor Firmware Service (LVFS)?According to the website https://fwupd.org/lvfs/devicelist I can see that fairly new Thinkpads like the P52/P72 are already supported. I do not mind waiting (within reasonable time frame) for Lenovo to fix the BIOS issues but at least I would like to be able to update my system without relying on Windows. Can we please have an update on anything revolving this machine? Is LVFS support coming or not? Is a BIOS update planned fairly soon so that I can stick with Windows for a bit longer? Please shed some light on the situation. A simple yes is coming or no is not will suffice so that we can all move on... Thank you.

A:Lenovo, please add LVFS compatibility for Thinkpad A485

I can't answer your immediate question, but I'm posting to make sure you know there's a way to get there. Perhaps you're already aware but others may not be...
It still requires Windows, but that could be in a VM if you don't have a Win box handy.  The Windows update exe includes a tool to make a bootable flash drive.  Instructions in the readme.
I realize it's not ideal but at least it's possible.

Hi, The ThinkPad A485 currently suffers from the same issue as the E485, where if typing on the keyboard quickly, jumbles up the letters. This appears to be a firmware bug as I have tested in in Windows and Linux, and yet it persists. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-11e-Windows-13-E-and/E485-strangely-unresponsive-keyboard/td-p... Could I please also have confirmation that the A485 will be supported for BIOS updates via LVFS (fwupd.org)? If you need any more information please ping me. Cheers

Linux may be unsupported, so I just want to hear from other users: Are you able to use the Bluetooth on the Realtek R8822be in this Laptop under Linux? If so, under what kernel?

A:Thinkpad A485 - Bluetooth not turning on (Linux)

It is working for Antergos 4.18.* Kernel. Did you turn it on with FN+F10?

Hello, I have recently acquired my very first Thinkpad, an A485 and although I am pretty happy with build quality I am very disappointed with the firmware related issues regarding performance as well as Lenovo's surprising ignorance towards the multiple open issues posted in this very forum. I thought that this a support forum where people post their issues in order to get some answers from Lenovo support employees. I do not like complaining and I know that replying might take some time but why cant we get a simple, "we are investing the issue please stay tuned for further updates". The silence involving any post that has to do with the A485 really worries me and considering that some posts provide hard evidence of the issues in question, I was expecting a much speedier response from support staff. Please allow me to elaborate, https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/A485-keyboard-and-firmware-issues/m-p/4218324A485 keyboard and firmware issues related topic posted on 2018/09/25 - still no official answer from any support staff https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/Thinkpad-A485-Bluetooth-not-turning-on-Linux/td-p/4219...Bluetooth firmware issues related topic posted on 2018/09/26 - still no official answer from any support staff https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/ThinkPad-A485-BIOS-1-02-issues/m-p/42293...ThinkPad A485 - BIOS 1.02 issues related topic posted on 2018/10/05 - still no official ... I noticed and issue with the ThinkPad A485 (AMD Ryzen) and DisplayPort audio. If using either the Lenovo Pro dock or the Lenovo USB-C dock, I'm unable to get sound to come through my Acer B247Y 24" monitors using a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable. The monitors have built-in speakers. It seems Windows 10 thinks it's sending the audio through to the monitors, but nothing comes out. Connecting the HDMI port on the side of the A485 to HDMI on the monitor will produce sound. Using a DisplayPort to female HDMI adapter from the back of either docking station and then connecting an HDMI cable to the adapter and then to HDMI on the monitor will also produce sound. There are no settings on the monitor that seem to do anything for it. I can select the Acer AMD High Definition Audio source in Sound Properties and the little equalizer meter moves when you right-click "Test sound", just no audio comes out using DisplayPort to DisplayPort. I'm not sure if this is an issue with USB-C and DP Alt-Mode which the A485 uses for either the Pro dock or USB-C dock. This does not seem to be an issue with an Intel-based machines using USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 or just Intel and DisplayPort audio. Other testing I've done.1. DisplayPort to DisplayPort does produce sound through the Acer monitor with the Pro dock and the Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 dock using a ThinkPad T480. DisplayPort to HDMI will also produce sound.2. DisplayPort to DisplayPort does produce sound through the Acer mo... A friend of mine recently updated his video card drivers, and upon restarting his computer his screen resolution was set to 640x480 and colour quality set to 4-bit. The slider will still move, but as soon as you click apply it just sets itself back to the lowest settings. I've updated both his video card and monitor drivers, and tried decreasing hardware acceleration, but the problem persists.

Monitor: Samsung 953BW (most recent driver version 1.0)
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce 8800GT (most recent driver version 285.58)

DirectX is updated to the latest version and I'm completely lost as to where to go from here. He updated the graphics card drivers in an attempt to fix graphical problems in a couple of games and now everything is gone to ****. Thanks =)

A:Updated video card drivers and now can't increase screen resolution or colour quality

I believe you might have the wrong drivers? Try this one.

Also try uninstalling the old drivers reboot then install the new ones.

I'm loving my new A485 but I have 2 issues that I'm unanble to solve. First:Silent/Perfomance toggle is only showing up sometimes? There is this little speedometer in the taskbar that is either bleu or orange depending on your silent or performance setting. But often this toggle is missing from my taskbar after a sleep / hibernation or full restart. I tried almost everything to figure out what could trigger this issue but I haven't really figured out what it could be... All software is up to date and I'm running Win 10 1809   Second:Installing a second SSD in the wwan port (m.2 2242)Is this even possible? I inserted a new M.2 2242 SATA SSD with 512GB but it does not show up anywhere in the Disk manager or in MS dos (diskpart).  A little help would be welcome for this new Thinkpad user
